The victory gave Milwaukee an early advantage in the best-of-seven rematch against the defending World Series champions, who swept the Brewers in last year’s NLCS. The Dodgers struck first in the second inning when Andy Pages delivered an RBI single against Milwaukee starter Jacob Misiorowski. Turang tied the score in the fourth with a solo homer off Los Angeles starter Tarik Skubal, then the Brewers moved ahead in the fifth when Lara singled home Garrett Mitchell. Misiorowski allowed one run over 4 1/3 innings before Milwaukee’s relievers took control. DL Hall earned the win, while the bullpen combined to shut out Los Angeles over the final 4 2/3 innings. Trevor Megill secured the save by closing out the ninth, preserving the one-run lead despite a late Dodgers threat. Skubal struck out seven over five innings but surrendered both Milwaukee runs. The Dodgers managed seven hits but could not produce another run after Pages’ early RBI, as the Brewers repeatedly escaped scoring opportunities. Milwaukee’s defensive plays and timely pitching helped keep Los Angeles’ potent lineup in check. The Dodgers vs. Brewers NLCS Game 2 is scheduled for Monday, Oct. 12 at 5 p.m. ET at American Family Field in Milwaukee. The Dodgers will look to even the best-of-seven NLCS, while Milwaukee has a chance to take a commanding 2-0 lead before the series moves to Los Angeles for Game 3. Striking near Destin, Florida, as a Category 2 system before tracking inland through Alabama, the storm rapidly lost intensity, eventually transitioning into a post-tropical cyclone. Even as maximum sustained winds decreased, state emergency management divisions warned that the threat of high water, localized tornadoes, and structural damage remained elevated as the system pressed northeastward toward the Appalachian and mid-Atlantic sectors. Fatalities were reported across both affected states, with half resulting directly from falling trees crashing onto residential buildings. Local officials confirmed that additional casualties occurred under hazardous circumstances during the height of the severe weather, prompting immediate safety appeals from leadership. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and Alabama officials urged the public to exercise extreme caution regarding compromised infrastructure, standing water, and downed utility lines. Widespread blackouts stretched utility grids to their limits, leaving well over 750,000 customers in the dark at the height of the disruption. Florida and Alabama absorbed the brunt of the infrastructural toll, recording massive clusters of outages alongside heavily blocked roadways and localized structural wreckage. Power restoration crews faced multi-day restoration windows in severely impacted zones as communications networks and blocked thoroughfares complicated initial damage assessments. Federal support was quickly mobilized as President Trump approved emergency disaster declarations to fast-track aid to hard-hit communities across Florida, Alabama, and Georgia. Meanwhile, energy officials deployed emergency measures to safeguard regional fuel supplies and refinery operations. Authorities continue to advise residents in low-lying areas to remain vigilant against rising floodwaters and hidden environmental hazards while recovery operations forge ahead. Speaking to the gathered crowd, the 71-year-old leader explained that “doctors found a small, localized nodule in my lung”. He noted that clinicians advised prompt removal of the tissue, prompting his decision to agree to the upcoming procedure. The pontiff offered reassurance regarding his diagnosis, explaining that “it was detected at a very early stage and is circumscribed”. Addressing those assembled for the noon Angelus prayer, he added, “The doctors believe it’s best to take action, so, following their advice, I’ve decided to have surgery to remove it”. Expressing gratitude to believers worldwide, the church leader stated, “The surgery is already scheduled for the coming days. Thank you for your spiritual support, and I entrust myself to your prayers”. Vatican officials confirmed that the operation is scheduled for early next week at Rome’s Agostino Gemelli Polyclinic Hospital, with an expected hospital recovery duration of approximately seven days. While day-to-day administrative matters inside the Holy See will proceed normally during his convalescence, formal approval on documents requiring the pope’s personal signature will be temporarily suspended. Known for maintaining an active physical regimen that includes regular tennis and swimming, the pontiff has no recorded history of major prior illnesses. Political leaders and religious figures swiftly issued statements offering encouragement following the public announcement. Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni expressed full backing on behalf of her cabinet, praising “the serenity and calm with which he spoke about it” as reassuring to the public. Italian President Sergio Mattarella noted that “in addition to the prayers of the Catholic faithful,” the pontiff can rely on “the heartfelt thoughts of countless people, in Italy and throughout the world, whether believers or non-believers”. The scheduled surgical procedure comes as church administrators continue preparations for an extensive international pastoral journey through Latin America set for November. During his Sunday remarks, the pontiff explicitly referenced his planned travel itinerary, thanking pilgrims for their support regarding his upcoming visits to Uruguay, Argentina, and Peru. Medical experts note that lung nodules are frequently non-cancerous tissue masses, and Church officials have expressed optimism regarding a complete recovery prior to his international travel commitments. Tucci stars as a legendary master thief who assembles an unlikely team to steal the Mona Lisa. His recruits include Chiara, an Italian cybercrime specialist played by Simona Tabasco, and Jay, a French explosives expert portrayed by Victor Belmondo. Their mission takes an unexpected turn when the pair discover they are long-lost siblings — and that the criminal mastermind leading the operation is their father. Forced into an uneasy partnership, the trio must overcome years of separation and personal conflict if they hope to pull off what is billed as the heist of the century. Masterplan is directed by Thomas Vincent, whose previous credits include Reacher, Bodyguard and Versailles. Vincent also co-wrote the project with BAFTA-winning screenwriter David Wolstencroft, based on a story developed by Giacomo Durzi, Alessandro Fabbri, Alberto Vignati, Wolstencroft and Vincent. The film is a co-production between Gaumont and Amazon MGM Studios and was filmed on location in France and Italy. Masterplan is scheduled to premiere exclusively on Prime Video on Oct. 16 in more than 240 countries and territories. See the trailer: HERE. Directed by Academy Award winner Peter Farrelly from a screenplay by Peter Gamble, the Amazon MGM Studios film chronicles Stallone’s determination to star in the screenplay he wrote despite repeated pressure from studios to cast a more established actor. The trailer follows Stallone through the difficult period before his breakthrough, showing him rejecting lucrative offers to sell the script unless he could portray boxer Rocky Balboa himself. That gamble ultimately led to the release of Rocky in 1976, a critical and commercial triumph that won the Academy Award for Best Picture and launched one of cinema’s most successful sports franchises. The film also highlights the real-life parallels between Stallone’s own struggles and the perseverance embodied by his famous fictional fighter. Joining Ippolito is AnnaSophia Robb as Stallone’s first wife, Sasha Czack, with Stephan James portraying Carl Weathers, Matt Dillon playing Frank Stallone Sr., Jay Duplass as director John G. Avildsen, and P.J. Byrne and Toby Kebbell portraying producers Irwin Winkler and Robert Chartoff. The ensemble also includes Tracy Letts, Kiki Seto, Robert Morgan, Saul Stein and Trevor St. John. Ippolito, whose previous credits include portraying Al Pacino in The Offer, was cast after an unsolicited audition, a story that mirrors the film’s underdog theme. I Play Rocky is scheduled to debut in select theaters in November before expanding nationwide around the 50th anniversary of Rocky’s original 1976 release. See the trailer for I Play Rocky: HERE. Cleveland overcame an early deficit before delivering a six-run sixth inning that turned a tightly contested matchup into a commanding lead. The victory kept the Guardians’ postseason hopes alive after Chicago won the first two games of the best-of-five series. The White Sox initially controlled the game, building a 2-0 advantage before Cleveland responded. Pinch hitter Patrick Bailey launched a solo home run, and José Ramírez followed with a two-run homer to put the Guardians ahead 3-2. Chicago regained the lead later, moving in front 4-3 on a bases-loaded hit-by-pitch and a sacrifice fly, setting up a pivotal sixth inning. Cleveland tied the score before taking control with a series of timely hits. Bailey delivered an RBI single to put the Guardians ahead, and the visitors continued to capitalize on Chicago’s pitching and defensive struggles. Ramírez contributed to the rally, while Jo Adell added a two-run single as Cleveland sent eight consecutive batters to reach base safely during the decisive stretch. The Guardians scored six runs in the inning to establish a 9-4 lead, with White Sox reliever Grant Taylor unable to record an out during his appearance. Chicago threatened to make the finish more competitive when Miguel Vargas hit a solo home run in the ninth, cutting the deficit to four runs. However, Cleveland’s bullpen held firm, and the Guardians closed out the victory. The teams will meet Saturday, Oct. 10, in Cleveland for Game 5, with the winner advancing to the American League Championship Series against the Tampa Bay Rays. First responders dispatched to the scene transported the suspect to a nearby medical facility, where he was pronounced deceased shortly after arrival. The confrontation occurred at the primary security screening area utilized by the general public. First responders dispatched to the scene transported the suspect to a nearby medical facility, where he was pronounced deceased shortly after arrival. According to local authorities, the suspect—identified as a male in his 40s—entered the facility and attempted to fire a handgun. “We believe the individual attempted to discharge the gun but it did not fire,” police noted. Following the mechanical failure of the firearm, the suspect pulled out a knife at the entryway checkpoint. Metro Nashville Police Department spokesperson Don Aaron stated, “The security individual fired on the armed individual,” ending the encounter at the entry portal. Investigators indicated that the deceased individual is believed to be from outside the state, though his identity and specific reasons for entering the venue remain under investigation. Officials confirmed they “know he has ties to out of state,” but have not determined what brought him to the downtown complex. No security officers or bystanders sustained injuries during the morning altercation. In the immediate aftermath, law enforcement agencies deployed canine teams to inspect the building exterior while surrounding streets were temporarily closed off. Neighboring public facilities, including the adjacent public library, suspended normal operations as a precautionary measure. Eyewitnesses and local office workers gathered on nearby sidewalks as federal agents and local detectives processed the crime scene. Court officials emphasized that security screening protocols operated effectively to prevent further violence inside the judicial complex. Referring to the busy location, First Assistant U.S. Attorney Rob McGuire observed, “That’s the entrance that most people in this courthouse use,” while reflecting on the facility’s history since opening: “That’s the first time anything like this has happened in this courthouse,” McGuire said. “We’ve been here since 2022”. Isaias became the first hurricane of the 2026 Atlantic season late Wednesday, ending an unusually long stretch without a hurricane in the basin. According to reports from the National Hurricane Center, Air Force Reserve Hurricane Hunter aircraft confirmed maximum sustained winds had reached 75 mph while the system advanced east-northeast at roughly 9 mph. Forecasters anticipate additional intensification before the storm makes landfall late Friday or early Saturday along the northern U.S. Gulf Coast. Hurricane warnings now extend from Ocean Springs, Mississippi, to the border of Bay and Gulf counties in Florida. Meteorologists warn that a life-threatening storm surge reaching 5 to 7 feet above ground level could inundate low-lying shorelines, including Mobile Bay. In response to the escalating danger, local authorities are urging residents to take immediate precautions, with weather officials instructing populations in vulnerable areas to “evacuate if told to do so”. Government leaders across the region have moved quickly to mobilize disaster response resources as the system accelerates. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis declared a state of emergency covering more than two dozen counties, while Alabama Governor Kay Ivey enacted emergency declarations for 40 counties across her state. Educational institutions are taking precautionary measures as well, with Florida State University transitioning to remote operations and canceling classes to ensure student safety. Beyond damaging coastal winds and inundation, inland communities face serious severe weather threats as heavy atmospheric moisture pushes across the region. Torrential rainfall is projected to trigger localized flash flooding, and atmospheric conditions will become favorable for spin-off tornadoes beginning Friday night across portions of coastal Alabama, Georgia, and northern Florida. Weather service offices as far north as Pennsylvania are monitoring the system’s eventual track, preparing for widespread soaking rains over the weekend. The plan also calls for a regular weekly off day, with MLB saying the shorter schedule would benefit player health while creating additional opportunities to showcase games nationally. The postseason would undergo several other changes. Beginning in 2027, higher-seeded teams would be allowed to select their opponents in the Wild Card and Division Series rounds. Under the proposal, the No. 3 seed would choose between the No. 5 and No. 6 seeds in the Wild Card Series, while the No. 1 seed would select which Wild Card winner it wants to face in the Division Series. The league also proposed adding nine postseason off days, stretching the playoff calendar to as many as 42 days and giving starting pitchers more opportunities to appear in multiple games. MLB’s proposed 154-game schedule would run across roughly 180 days instead of the current 162 games over 187 days. Teams would receive four split doubleheaders, one against each division opponent, while most Mondays would become off days except for games scheduled on national holidays or in limited national broadcast windows. The league said player salaries would not be reduced because of the shorter season, although thresholds tied to games played and similar incentives would be adjusted. The Division Series would be played over 11 days rather than nine, with additional rest built into the schedule. MLB also wants to reduce early weekday afternoon playoff games and stagger postseason starts, changes designed to improve attendance and television viewing while creating more opportunities for top pitchers to work. The 154-game schedule would mark a return to a format last used before both leagues moved to 162 games in the early 1960s. The proposal comes with the sides still sharply divided over economics. MLB has tied its proposals to a salary-cap-and-floor system, which the union opposes. The current collective bargaining agreement expires Dec. 1, and a potential lockout threatens the 2027 season if the sides fail to reach an agreement. The MLBPA said it would review the league’s latest proposals before responding at the bargaining table.
