celina custom dental crown

Restoring your teeth can take on issues like injury and tooth decay, keeping your smile whole and free of discomfort. To offer results that look natural, we can offer custom full and partial dental crowns. In today’s blog, Celina Family Dentistry talks about restoring smiles in Celina, TX, with custom dental crowns, so you can feel great in social situations and even enjoy your favorite dishes again.

When Teeth Need Custom Dental Restorations

Restorative dentistry enables our team to repair teeth. With custom dental crowns, we can return your smile to full function, health and beauty. For example, when a tooth is damaged from teeth grinding, or develops severe tooth decay, we could place a custom dental crown to help. If a tooth is infected, then a custom dental restoration could complete a root canal procedure. We could help boost bite balance and chewing function, and even aid in the replacement of missing teeth, as custom dental crowns can secure bridges and even restore single tooth dental implants.

Lifelike Inlays and Onlays

What if you have an injury or cavity too severe for a filling, but not advanced enough that a complete dental restoration is necessary? When this happens, we could offer a partial restoration, also known as an inlay or onlay. Made from ceramic, these will be custom-crafted and shade to blend with the tooth. The inlay will fit in between the cusps on top of the teeth, while the onlay will fit over the cusps.

Full Restorations

A full is a complete custom dental crown that fits over the tooth, addressing the entirety of the structure above the gum line. We could use one for severe cavity, major injuries, or to help lengthen worn-down teeth. Again, this will be crafted from a lifelike and durable ceramic, so this can handle daily bite forces with ease and also offer a natural appearance. With good oral hygiene habits, you have a new restoration that can last for years to come and remain natural-looking the entire time.

If you have any questions about how we restore smiles of all ages with our safe and lifelike custom dental crowns, or if you have pain or an injury in your tooth that needs immediate attention, then contact our team today to learn more and start the treatment process. We want to help restore your smile, so you can enjoy good oral health, proper bite function, and a natural appearance that boosts your confidence.

When we see people with tooth loss, we want to help restore their smile by replacing what has been lost. For minor tooth loss, we could offer a dental bridge. In today’s blog, your team at Celina Family Dentistry talks about how we create and place a bridge for our Celina, TX, patients.

The Need for Tooth Replacement

If you lose most of your teeth, then you will likely need a set of dentures, either full or partial. But if you have a more minor case of tooth loss, then we could help address the gap with a dental bridge. The prosthetic can replace a single missing tooth, or replace as many as three in a row. When we address the gap, this can prevent complications like misalignment, TMJ disorder, and bruxism (teeth grinding). You can also enjoy a restored ability to eat your favorite foods, and the lifelike appearance means you can smile with confidence again.

Creating Your Dental Prosthetic

Each bridge we provide for our patients will be custom-made. Which means we need to gently remove structure from the abutment teeth, the ones on each side of the gap, to get started. We will numb your smile ahead of time to keep you comfortable, and after removing structure, we will take digital images and measurements of the area, which are then used in a lab setting to design and craft your new teeth. The prosthetic will contain new teeth, referred to as pontics, with crowns on each side. Made from ceramic, this will be able to handle daily bite forces with ease, and we can color-match it to blend with the rest of your smile too!

Securing Your New Teeth

When your bridge is ready, we will secure it to your smile. With a traditional option, we will attach the crowns to the abutment teeth to secure your new ones in place for years to come, often as long as 10 to 15 years. However, we could also discuss inserting dental implants and attaching your new teeth to these, which could mean tooth replacement that lasts far longer. In addition, there would be no need to remove structure from nearby teeth, as the implants will support your new prosthetic.

If you have any questions about how we take on tooth loss and restore your smile with a dental bridge, or about the benefits securing tooth replacement with dental implants can provide, then contact our team today to learn more and get started on your journey to a complete smile again.

To help keep smiles intact by preventing serious concerns like cavities and gum disease, we offer all ages access to general dentistry. With this approach, we can help prevent issues from occurring at all. In today’s blog, Celina Family Dentistry talks about keeping smiles intact with general dentistry for Celina, TX, patients.

The Need for General Dentistry

Patients of all ages, from kids to adults, benefit from general dentistry. With this treatment, we can keep a close eye on smiles and catch problems that develop in their earliest stages, addressing tooth decay and gingivitis before they can become infections and gum disease, which could threaten smile stability. We also offer ways to help ensure comfortable treatment experiences, even if you have anxiety or special needs. If you have not seen the dentist in the last six months, now is a great time to schedule a checkup and cleaning visit, starting your path to better oral health with general dentistry.

Checkups and Cleanings

Dental checkups and cleanings are an essential part of general dentistry, and all ages should have one every six months. With a checkup, we examine your teeth, gums, roots, and more with digital x-rays and intraoral cameras, so we can diagnose potential problems and address them. We also clean the teeth, a process that enables us to remove all plaque and tartar from the teeth to fight the risk of tooth decay and gum disease. For adults, these visits help us maintain good oral health. For kids, not only do we help boost their smiles, but they can better understand their own oral health and the need for routine care at home and in the office. They are less likely to develop dental anxiety later in life, and more likely to continue seeking dental care on their own as adults!

Children’s Dentistry

Our team can also use general dentistry to help little smiles. We offer kids of all ages checkups and cleanings as we mentioned above, but we also have treatments designed to help better protect little smiles against tooth decay. For example, during their routine checkup, we can apply fluoride to the teeth to help strengthen the outer enamel, keeping it strong and resistant to tooth decay. We also have dental sealants, which are thin acrylic layers we add to the rear teeth, which kids often have trouble reaching when they brush and floss. Sealants prevent cavities from forming between the molars, and can stay in place for years to come!

A Look at Sedation

Our team wants to make sure your visit to our office is comfortable, even if you have anxiety or are undergoing more extensive treatments, such as dental implant placement or tooth extraction. Which is why we offer three different dental sedation options. We can use multiple factors to choose which is right for you. Nitrous oxide offers deep cleaning with a gas you inhale through a mask over your nose. The effects are short-lived and wear off when the procedure ends so you can drive yourself home. With oral conscious sedation, we offer calming through a pill or liquid, and you enter a deeper state with little memory of the treatment. IV is the deepest one, administered intravenously. With these last two options, the effects take time to wear off, so you need one on hand to bring you home.

Easing TMJ Disorder

If you have pain in your jaw, including a popping sensation, then this could be due to a common concern known as TMJ disorder, or TMD. When the jaw joints undergo excessive stress and strains, this can cause a disorder that upsets how you open and close your mouth, a disorder linked to a host of uncomfortable symptoms as well. You could experience the pain we discussed above, and also develop complications like bruxism (teeth grinding), which further damages your bite. But we can help! Our team can design and craft an oral appliance, one custom-made for your bite. Worn while you sleep, this helps reposition the jaw so you can avoid symptoms, and also avoid dental damage if you grind your teeth too.

If you have any questions about how we help smiles of all ages stay beautiful and strong with general dentistry or if you are ready to schedule a checkup and cleaning with our team, then contact our office today to learn more and get started.

TMJ disorder, also known as TMD, can lead to strain on your jaw joints and uncomfortable symptoms, such as a popping or crackling sensation. But we can ease jaw pain and prevent complications with a simple oral appliance! In today’s blog, Celina Family Dentistry talks about helping TMJ sufferers in Celina, TX, with our custom oral appliance.

The Causes of TMJ Disorder

What causes TMJ disorder? This happens when the joints connecting your jaw and skull become strained, often due to factors like tooth loss, injury to the face or jaw, misalignment, or issues with the growth of the bite or eruption of the teeth, all possible issues that could cause bite imbalance. If you grind your teeth, a disorder known as bruxism, this could also increase the risk of TMD. But how do you know if you have this issue, and when should you see our team for a diagnosis?

The Warning Signs of TMD

What are the warning signs of TMD, and how do you know when to see our team for treatment? For some, there could be a popping or crackling sensation in your jaw on a regular basis. You could also experience persistent headaches and migraines, as well as jaw and facial pain. People with TMJ disorder may also report aches in the neck and shoulders. When you have persistent pain in and around your smile, please let us know right away so that we can plan treatment, including the use of a custom oral appliance.

Relief with a Custom Oral Appliance

For some, we could ease TMJ disorder by using bonding or a crown to help improve overall bite balance, easing strain on the jaw joints. If your strain is due to tooth loss, we could create and place a bridge, or even a full or partial set of dentures. We even have durable and long-lasting dental implants. Our team can also offer clear aligners to correct uneven smiles, fixing misalignment and easing strain on your bite.

But the most common and simple treatment option is an oral appliance. We will take detailed digital images of your bite from multiple angles, and use this to design and custom-fit an oral appliance, one that looks like a mouthguard. At night, you wear the device and it helps reposition your bite to ease strain and prevent symptoms during the day. This can also help prevent damage from teeth grinding, as the oral appliance acts like a soft barrier between the upper and lower sets of teeth.

Celina Family Dentistry and TMJ Relief

We can stop the aches and popping in your bite with a custom oral appliance. To find out more about our approach to TMJ treatment, call Celina Family Dentistry in Celina, TX at (214) 851-0130 today.

Do you have dental anxiety? If so, then you may want to talk to our team about sedation dentistry. With our calming options, we can help people with a fear of the dentist enjoy a positive treatment experience. In today’s blog, Celina Family Dentistry talks about sedation dentistry for anxious patients in Celina, TX.

Anxiety and Dental Care

When you have a serious fear of the dentist, you can avoid even minor treatments like cleanings, which leaves you vulnerable to tooth decay, gum disease, and other factors that could cause discomfort and even tooth loss. We don’t want your anxiety to stand between you and the smile you deserve. We will never minimize your discomfort and anxiety, and instead will try to offer a way to provide a calm and positive treatment experience. With sedation, we can help anxious patients, or those with special needs, enjoy a calm visit. This is also a way to ensure comfort when undergoing oral surgery, such as wisdom tooth extraction or dental implant placement.

Choosing the Right Calming Option

We have three different options to choose from, so how do we choose? Our team will take any special needs into account, as well as your anxiety levels or any medications you are currently taking. Your age, weight, and overall medical history are also common factors we look at, so we can choose the best way to keep you comfortable!

Sedation Selections

Our most common calming selection is nitrous oxide, which we give via a mask over the nose. You enter a deep state of calm and euphoria, which we can adjust during care, and which ends once the procedure does. You could even return to work or school, or drive yourself home.

Now, we also have a deeper state of calm administered with a pill or liquid, known as oral conscious. This is a deeper stage of calm, with little to no memory of the procedure at all. You will need to have someone take you home, as you will likely be groggy afterward.

The deepest form of calming we offer is IV, which we administer intravenously, and which offers a deep and sleep-like state of calm, again with no memory of the procedure at all. You will also be groggy with this option, and should arrange for someone to be on hand to take you home. If you have any questions about how we keep you calm with dental sedation, then contact our team today to learn more and get started on your treatment journey!

Our team wants to help ensure your visit is a calm and comfortable experience. To find out more about keeping patients calm and comfortable, call Celina Family Dentistry in Celina, TX at (214) 851-0130 today.

Oral surgery provides ways to manage serious concerns, the kind too severe for a dental filling or crown placement. For example, we can remove wisdom teeth before they cause trouble, or even address lost teeth with dental implants. In today’s blog, our team at Celina Family Dentistry talks about helping smiles with oral surgery in Celina, TX.

Planning Treatment and Ensuring Your Comfort

If you come to us with a serious concern to be addressed, we will carefully examine your smile with digital x-rays to assess the cause and severity of the issue. From there, we can plan treatment with precision and accuracy. Our team also wants to ensure the treatment process itself is comfortable. For example, we will numb the area directly with a local anesthesia. Our team can also offer sedation, selecting an option to help anxious patients enter a deep state of calm and relaxation, with little to no memory of the oral surgery at all! Your treatment experience can be a positive one, and we will work to make that happen.

Jawbone Grafting

If you have lost natural teeth, this may do more than just leave a gap behind in your smile. You could also see the surrounding jawbone structure weaken and erode, a process that deprives your jaw of mass and density. Over time, this could lead to an aged appearance and further tooth loss, and leave your jaw unable to support dental implants. But with oral surgery, we can strengthen your lower jaw with a grafting procedure.

Essentially, we will take tissues from other parts of your body, or possibly use donor or synthetic materials, and use this to shore up areas that have eroded, providing a new base that can support dental implants and keep your youthful facial features intact.

Gum Grafts

For some, periodontal disease could mean the gums recede, which makes teeth appear long and uneven. This exposure creates sensitivity in the tooth roots not protected by enamel, which can cause sensitivity and tooth decay. This also increases the risk of periodontitis, the stage of the disease linked to adult tooth loss. But we can manage periodontal disease and even correct gum recession with a grafting procedure. Taking soft tissues from other portions of your mouth’s interior, we will cover the exposed roots and create a new gum line. This covers the exposed roots, and we also take time to ensure proper smile esthetics for our patients!

Dental Implants

Oral surgery can also replace missing teeth. With dental implants, we insert the implant portion into the jaw surgically. This small, thin biocompatible post acts as a new root, stimulating jawbone growth to keep your smile strong and intact. We can offer an individual one, completed with a lifelike crown, or we could use several posts to support a bridge or even a complete set of new teeth! You now have new teeth that never slip, and these can offer a lifelike appearance and long-lasting tooth replacement, staying in place for decades to come in some cases.

Wisdom Tooth Extraction

For older teens and people in their early 20s, up to four new teeth could erupt in the rear of the mouth. Known as wisdom teeth, when these arrive there is little room for them, so they can create misalignment, infection, and damage nearby teeth. They also may only have room to partially erupt, creating a painful impaction. But with oral surgery, we can gently extract these teeth before they arrive, preserving your alignment and overall oral health. If you have a child who has graduated high school and is heading to college, now is a great time to remove these teeth before they can impact their smiles during their first semester for college!

If you have any questions about how we help smiles with oral surgery, or if you need to schedule a visit to remove wisdom teeth, receive dental implants, or even have your jawbone strengthened or gums corrected, then reach out to our team today to learn more and get started. We would love to help you and your family start a new school year with optimal oral health, avoiding long-term complications down the road.

Our team wants to help prevent the complications caused by serious plaque and tartar buildup, including tooth decay and periodontal disease. With a dental cleaning, we can help preserve your smile. In today’s blog, your team at Celina Family Dentistry talks about protecting smiles with a dental cleaning.

The Dangers of Plaque and Tartar Buildup

First, let’s talk about plaque and tartar. Over time, harmful oral bacteria within your smile will break down and consume the bits of sugar and starch left behind by the foods and drinks we consume. As this happens, a bacterial byproduct is created, which coats the teeth. This sticky layer is known as plaque, and while brushing and flossing can limit severity, this cannot remove these layers completely, and they harden with time into tartar.

The buildup can make stains more visible and is linked to bad breath. Over time, plaque and tartar can weaken and erode outer enamel to make cavities and even dental infection possible. The same layers also irritate and inflame the gums to cause gingivitis and even periodontal disease, which can mean discomfort and even threaten to smile stability.

The Dental Cleaning Process

To clear away these layers completely and protect the health of your teeth and gums, we can offer a dental cleaning. This is essential for kids and adults alike, and we want to offer one every six months. With the procedure, we will use an ultrasonic scaling device, which emits gentle vibrations to knock loose and remove layers of plaque and tartar. We then follow this with a manual pick for any stubborn portions of tartar that remain. The last step is to polish the teeth to make a smooth surface that is difficult for plaque and tartar to cling to, and also offers a brighter smile. The entire procedure only takes a few minutes, and helps strengthen your smile for months to come!

Help for Periodontal Disease

If you already have symptoms of gingivitis and periodontal disease, such as sore, red, and bleeding gums, then we can help with a deep cleaning. Also known as a scaling and root planing, this removes buildup with the same tools, but we also clear away layers from the exposed roots and from under the gums. Since this is more involved, we will numb your smile and for some, this could take more than one visit. We then follow it with traditional cleanings every three to four months. If you have any questions about our preventive treatments, then contact our team today to learn more!

We know it is still July, but before you know it, your kids will be returning to school. Which is why now is a great time to schedule a visit for a checkup and cleaning! In today’s blog, your team at Celina Family Dentistry talks about the value of a back-to-school checkup and cleaning for families in Celina, TX.

Checkups for Kids and Adults

Before kids start school and your schedule becomes a lot more hectic, why not bring them in for a checkup? You should schedule one for yourself too! With a dental exam, we can look at your teeth and gums for signs of trouble using advanced digital imaging, making the process fast and comfortable. Our team can then create a treatment plan to address any concerns we uncover, and can discuss ways to better improve your daily oral hygiene routine. We can help kids become used to the dentist, so they don’t have anxiety about visiting the dentist as adults, and will be more likely to better understand their oral health and better care for their smiles in the years to come!

Cleaning Your Smile

In the same visit, we will also clean the smile. With a dental cleaning, we use an ultrasonic scaling device and a manual tool to thoroughly break up and remove all plaque and tartar from the teeth, which limits the risk of everything from tooth decay to gum disease. The process only takes a few minutes, and we then complete it by polishing the teeth for a brighter appearance.

If we find issues that need attention, we could discuss treatment like a filling placement, which could be done before school starts, so everyone begins a new season with better oral health and brighter smiles!

Better Homecare Habits

Along with general checkups and cleanings every six months, our team can also discuss better homecare habits to protect smiles in between these six months visits. For example, everyone in your household can brush and floss daily, limit how much sugar is in their diets, and avoid tobacco products, all actions that keep smiles healthy and strong, and free of decay and disease.

If you want to schedule a back-to-school checkup and cleaning for your family, then reach out to our team today to start the process, so we can help protect smiles of all ages from cavities and more. We look forward to hearing from you, and seeing you for a visit!

When you have imperfections with the shape and color of your teeth., then you need cosmetic dentistry. We can offer a host of treatments, from teeth whitening to custom veneers, to reshape your smile! In today’s blog, your team at Celina Family Dentistry talks about how we improve smiles in Celina, TX, with cosmetic dentistry.

Finding Out Which Procedure You Need

To begin, we want to take a close look at your smile to understand the cause and severity of your esthetic issues. With digital x-rays and intraoral cameras, we can assess these factors and create a treatment plan to correct the issues. We could use one treatment or a combination of them as needed. If you happen to have more severe concerns, we could even offer restorations, like fillings and crowns, which are also lifelike in appearance. With cosmetic dentistry, we can help you feel confident in your smile again.

Teeth Whitening

Teeth stains are common problems we can address with cosmetic dentistry. With teeth whitening, we can choose from in-office or at-home treatments to brighten the smile. With our in-office option, we can offer results in one visit with a powerful bleaching gel and a light. If you have more severe stains, then we could recommend our take-home kit, which consists of a set of custom plastic trays and multiple plastic syringes of bleaching gel. At home, you add gel to the trays and wear them for an hour a day in most cases, which can brighten your teeth by several shades, often as many as eight!

Clear Aligners

With cosmetic dentistry, we can also take on your misalignment. We offer an alternative to traditional metal braces with clear aligners. These will be custom-made for your smile based on detailed images and impressions we take of your bite. You will wear a set from a series of aligners for about two weeks, 20 to 23 hours a day, and repeat this through the rest of the series. The aligners will correct your smile and offer a more attractive appearance, and also boosts for your oral health and bite function. You can see an even smile in as little as one year, and these can be removed before you eat and prior to brushing and flossing for added convenience!

Dental Bonding

Our team can also tackle esthetic issues in only one visit with our dental bonding procedure. The process employs the same composite resin as our lifelike and metal-free fillings. We will apply this to your tooth in several layers, and then sculpt the tooth as the bonding material cures under a light. With bonding, we can mask permanent teeth stains, repair minor injuries, and fill open spaces between the teeth. We can also correct misshapen structures too and add length to worn-down teeth as well.

Cosmetic Contouring

With contouring, we can also take a same-day approach to treatment. Instead of adding new structures to your tooth, we will gently sand and buff the outer structures to correct cosmetic issues in one sitting. With contouring, we can gently reshape overly large teeth, correct the appearance of chipped teeth, and address issues with overall shape. Contouring can also smooth away pits, grooves, and rough portions of outer structure, and even dull sharp, jagged, or pointed teeth, all in only one visit.

Porcelain Veneers

For some, we could potentially offer a smile makeover with custom porcelain veneers. These are very thin dental restorations that fit over the front facing portions of your teeth. Once in place, these will offer instant smile transformation, taking on multiple issues at once. For example, placing our veneers can cover up teeth stains too severe to be removed with whitening alone. We can reshape malformed teeth, lengthen worn-down teeth, and fill gaps between the teeth. We can also correct the appearance of minor misalignment for some patients, so you have a straighter-looking smile without the need for braces or aligners.

If you have any questions about our treatment options, or if you are ready to see which is right for you, then please reach out to our team today to learn more. We want you to feel confident in your smile’s appearance, and we can help with cosmetic dentistry!

When you suffer from tooth loss, we want to help. With dental implants, our team can secure replacements that look and function in a similar way to natural teeth. In today’s blog, your team at Celina Family Dentistry talks about replacing lost teeth with dental implants for smiles in Celina, TX.

The Impact of Losing Teeth

We could end up with missing teeth for a number of different reasons, such as injury, cavities and infection, or in most cases, periodontal disease. When we lose teeth, this deprives the jaw of a tooth root and without it, the body stops sending doses of calcium and phosphorus to the surrounding bone structure. Without these nutrients, the area weakens and erodes, leading to additional missing teeth and an older appearance. Tooth loss could also limit meal options, impact how clearly you speak, and leave your feeling self-conscious in social situations. But we can help with long-lasting and lifelike dental implants.

Dental Implant Candidacy

We will start by examining your smile to assess the cause and severity of your tooth loss, so we can choose the best replacement option. You could benefit from a single one, or we could use several posts to secure a bridge or possibly a complete set of dentures. We want to make sure your jawbone can support them, otherwise you may need grafting or sinus lift ahead of time. Our team will choose the best angle, position, and depth to insert your new roots, so they can remain in place and strengthen your jawbone, providing dental implants with the chance to last decades to come, possibly a lifetime.

Securing Your New Teeth

After we surgically place the roots, what about the p[arts people see when you smile? For an individual one, we could complete the tooth with a dental crown, one custom-made for a lifelike appearance and a durable chewing surface. If you have a larger gap or are missing most of your teeth, we could attach a bridge or even a full set of new teeth, again designed for a natural appearance and a dependable chewing surface. Your new teeth can last far longer than traditional bridges and removable dentures with proper care and attention.

Don’t live with missing teeth, talk to our team about securing one or more dental implants today! We look forward to helping you enjoy a full smile again, with results destined to last for years to come.
