Their website is: crvt.org. It’s an easy website to navigate with interesting content about what CVRT’s objectives are. What I found quite interesting was their list of how many businesses there are in Vermont: 2 Testing, 2 Integrated, 8 Wholesaler, 93 Manufacturer, 110 Retailers and 408 Cultivators. That’s amazing in such a short time since the recreational legal marketplace opened in Vermont in October 2022.
It’s easy to forget that this new market, legal cannabis, is just a toddler. There are so many pot shops around, it seems like it’s been this way forever. And, thankfully so.
The near term road ahead for retail cannabis is rocky given the current limitation on new retail cannabis licenses. The deleterious effect this limitation is having is measurable: both in lost revenue and lost product, and of the producers of cannabis-based products.
The market for legal cannabis is enormous, and organizations like the CVRT allow those businesses with a stake in the future to be a part of the finding the best solutions.
]]>Terpenes are found in perfumes, essential oils, cleaning products… and cannabis.
There are over 200 different kinds of terpenes that are found in cannabis plants.
The aroma of a bud is dependent on the type and ratio of terpenes in the flower.
Some have obvious names: Limonene or Pinene. Lemony smell or piney wood smell. Some have obscure chemical names: Caryophyllene or Terpineol. Peppery or floral scents. There’s an enormous variety of scents found in cannabis’ terpenes.
Often a pot shop will display a poster of terpenes. A quick glance at the poster will help guide the decision of which strain to choose.
And there’s always the nose. The nose does know!

Which one you choose is determined by what you are interested in accomplishing: up mood or down, working the body or mind, bringing about energizing or calming energy.
Sativa tends to be a mind high. Bringing creativity to the fore. Uplifting.
Indica tends to be a body high. Relaxation and calming are felt. Grounding.
The hybrids can do either or both depending on the strain. There are Sativa-leaning hybrids and Indica-leaning ones. These are cross strains which have been developed, some over years, through many plant generations.
There is a wealth of choices out there. Sativa, indica or hybrid.
If you are clear with what you want to achieve, which strain to choose will be easier to decide.
]]>They tend to be rolled in a cone style with a folded paper mouthpiece.
They are convenient. Easy to use. And come in many styles and colors. This is a good way to try out different strains without making a huge investment.
They come in different sizes: 1/3 gram, 1/2 gram, 3/4 gram and 1 gram.
Some are rolled in resin or hash. Some have flavor capsules in the mouthpiece.
There is a wide variety of options of strains, growers or manufacturers.
And if you are the DIY type, you can buy empty cones and fill your own pre-roll. Empty pre-rolls are sold in all sizes: from mini-dogwalker (1/3 gram), dog walkers (1/2 gram) or a full gram.
You can also purchase paraphernalia to roll your own cone. It’s kind of fun once you get the hang of it.
It’s a far cry from the pin joint or the spliff of days gone by, and frankly…. it’s a cool evolution.

Right down the road from a break in the Rail Trail path.
They are the growers of the wonderful Addison County Diesel, which is a sweet sativa diesel strain. Nice scent. Pretty buds.
Also available there is a beautiful selection of leather goods and jewelry.
Fun Fact: The Vermont Rail Trail runs from Danville to Swanton, Vermont, for a while running along the Lamoille River. It follows the removed railroad tracks, which used to carry granite from the Northeast Kingdom to the rest of the world. It’s stunningly beautiful to ride along, or walk. Surrounded by trees and creeks… and the bounty of the outdoors.

They have a wide selection of strains, and a cool vibe. They have good deals on really nice bud.
]]>Greeted by a suit of armor, the place is welcoming. Turn right and there is a large room with a wide variety of Vermont products, like maple syrup. There are grow supplies, T-Shirts and, of course, paraphernalia.
At the far end is a row of buds in jars. Pretty. Kind. The scents of the buds floats in the air.
Castle Cannabis are growers themselves and they have great bargains.
One of their home grown strains is called Titty Sprinkles. It was developed to help a particular woman deal with the effects of chemotherapy for breast cancer. It’s a great strain for a wicked good reason.
Johnson, VT is in the process of healing from serious flooding in 2023 and 2024, the effects can be seen everywhere. So, it is truly heartening to see a healthy new shop bringing in business and helping to support Johnson in their long slug of a rebuilding process. It is only recently that a village store selling groceries has opened.
