Read 1 Peter 3:8-17

There is a concept in following Christ Jesus that we are to bless others even when they do evil to us. There is a way to act when you have been wronged or attacked by an enemy. It is human nature to want vengeance when you’ve been wronged, but that is not the way of a christian. We are to act differently.

v8 – We are to be of one mind in the body of Christ:

  • having compassion one of another,
  • love as brethren,
  • be pitiful, (Webster’s 1828: Full of pity; tender; compassionate; having a heart to feel sorrow and
    sympathy for the distressed.)
  • be courteous

v9 – We are not to do these things:

  • rendering evil for evil,
  • or railing for railing

v9 – Contrariwise, we are to:

  • render blessing

This is our calling: “knowing that ye are thereunto called, that ye should inherit a blessing.”

A Warning

We are warned not to both bless and curse:

(James 3:8-10) “But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison. {9} Therewith bless we God, even the Father; and therewith curse we men, which are made after the similitude of God. {10} Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be.”

We must be consistent in how we treat, talk, or react to other people.

There are many examples in the Old Testament where Israel could either receive a blessing or a curse. This depended on what they did.

(Deuteronomy 11:26-28) “¶ Behold, I set before you this day a blessing and a curse; {27} A blessing, if ye obey the commandments of the LORD your God, which I command you this day: {28} And a curse, if ye will not obey the commandments of the LORD your God, but turn aside out of the way which I command you this day, to go after other gods, which ye have not known.”

Responding to Evil

In our passage today we are told the blessing we inherit depends on how we respond to evil done against us.

v10 – Here Peter quotes Psalms 34:13:

“Keep thy tongue from evil, and thy lips from speaking guile.” (Webster’s 1828 – “Guile, Craft; cunning; artifice; duplicity; deceit; usually in a bad sense.)

v11 – Peter then quotes Psalms 37:27:

“Depart from evil, and do good; and dwell for evermore.”

v12 – He quotes again from the Psalms:

(Psalms 34:15) “The eyes of the LORD are upon the righteous, and his ears are open unto their cry.”

v13 – We are reassured that we will not come to harm if we follow “that which is good.”

(Proverbs 25:21-22) “If thine enemy be hungry, give him bread to eat; and if he be thirsty, give him water to drink: {22} For thou shalt heap coals of fire upon his head, and the LORD shall reward thee.”
(Proverbs 10:6) “Blessings are upon the head of the just: but violence covereth the mouth of the wicked.”

Be Happy in Suffering

v14 – There is a place to be happy in suffering. Peter quotes Isaiah 54:14 to reassure us that God will protect us.

“In righteousness shalt thou be established: thou shalt be far from oppression; for thou shalt not fear: and from terror; for it shall not come near thee.”

v15 – How we react to evil will be a witness to those that watch us. It won’t align with what they might expect of us. We can only do this if we are prepared and this preparation is in our relationship and obedience to the Lord God.

(1 Peter 3:15) “But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear:”
(Sanctify, To purify; to prepare for divine service, and for partaking of holy things.)

A Good Conscience

v16 – We have a “good conscience” because we are obedient to God. That is what makes the accusations false. When you act and speak the truth, that will make the evildoers ashamed when the truth is revealed.

v17 – The will of God is that we suffer for well doing rather than suffering for doing evil.

How we act and respond to evil will determine our blessing from God.

God bless, Mike

I was reading in Revelation, Chapter 6, when God showed me something. It’s my practice to ask God to teach me when I’m reading and studying the Bible. He shows me something almost every day.

(Jeremiah 33:3) “Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not.”

Here is the passage that caught my attention.

(Revelation 6:15-17) “And the kings of the earth, and the great men, and the rich men, and the chief captains, and the mighty men, and every bondman, and every free man, hid themselves in the dens and in the rocks of the mountains; {16} And said to the mountains and rocks, Fall on us, and hide us from the face of him that sitteth on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb: {17} For the great day of his wrath is come; and who shall be able to stand?”

Immediately, I saw it. It was a very strong impression. These are the men who have built underground shelters, some like small cities, where they could ride out any disaster. Everything they need to survive is there. They just need to go into the bunker and wait until conditions improve on the surface of the planet. The trouble with this plan is that you cannot hide from God. Judgment will fall on these people as well as the people on the surface. (About the same time I read Revelation Chapter 6, I also read Amos Chapter 9!)

(Amos 9:1-4) “I saw the Lord standing upon the altar: and he said, Smite the lintel of the door, that the posts may shake: and cut them in the head, all of them; and I will slay the last of them with the sword: he that fleeth of them shall not flee away, and he that escapeth of them shall not be delivered. {2} Though they dig into hell, thence shall mine hand take them; though they climb up to heaven, thence will I bring them down: {3} And though they hide themselves in the top of Carmel, I will search and take them out thence; and though they be hid from my sight in the bottom of the sea, thence will I command the serpent, and he shall bite them: {4} And though they go into captivity before their enemies, thence will I command the sword, and it shall slay them: and I will set mine eyes upon them for evil, and not for good.”

Reread Verse 2. You won’t be able to hide from God in the mountains (an underground bunker). Nor will you be able to escape to another planet (Mars). If God passes judgment, there is no escape. The only way you can escape this judgment is if you are in Christ Jesus. Only he can protect you.

(Acts 16:31) “And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.”

In fact, He is your only safety.

(Romans 8:38-39) “For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, {39} Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

Not a bunker. Not a spaceship. Only Jesus.

I have been convinced that the King James Bible is God’s word for the English-speaking people for the last 25 years. I also believe that the modern English translations, while containing a measure of truth, are counterfeit Bibles. Satan has been corrupting God’s word since the beginning. On May 2, 2024, Brandon Peterson published a video on his YouTube channel: Truth Is Christ. This video gives irrefutable proof that the King James Bible had God’s hand on it, for in it the count of 7^7. That is 7x7x7x7x7x7x7, which equals 823,543.

Count verification of the King James Bible, showing 7^7 power, or 7x7x7x7x7x7x7=823,543The Video

The video is called The Elton Anomaly 7^7 | We Counted the Entire Bible. In this video, Brandon tells how he was sent a text file of the King James Bible showing the count.  He then shows how he and his wife verified the count in a physical Bible. Once you see this, your reading of the Bible will be changed forever. What Jesus said takes on new meaning:

(Matthew 5:18) “For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.

Every word, chapter, and verse has meaning now. This number, 823,543, is something that man could not have accomplished, especially in 1611. Then, consider all the other numeric patterns that occur in the King James Bible (and no other), and you have a true miracle that only God could do.

A Shorter Video

There is also a shorter video that covers the essentials of the count. You can watch A Simplified Breakdown of the Elton Anomaly (KJV 7^7 Count) in under 30 minutes.

My wife and a friend went to the city-wide garage sale in our local town. While they were out, my wife’s friend mentioned that they might be able to get a free Bible at a local church’s thrift store. They were close by, so they stopped in. A little while later I got a call from my wife asking if I would like some free used King James Bibles. After a short discussion, I said yes!

This website has existed since 2003, and has been sending out free Bibles since 2013. (We weren’t able to send out Bibles from late 2020 until we resumed in late 2024.) Since we resumed, Bible requests have been steady. My wife and I have been praying that God would supply Bibles, and he did! These 35 Bibles were a real blessing from the Lord.

It is critical that you read from a physical Bible and get away from distractions and devices. We get some requests for just that reason. People need to be alone with God for both Bible study and prayer. Jesus said,

(John 5:39) Ҧ Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.

We are also told in Psalms:

(Psalms 46:10) “Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.”

Charlie Kirk talked about why you need a physical Bible:

Here are the five reasons from the video for why physical Bibles should be brought back into the church:

  1. No Distractions

    • Reading a physical Bible prevents digital distractions like text messages or social media notifications that can pull attention away from God’s Word.

  2. Physical Connection and Uniqueness

    • The tangible weight, texture, and feel of a Bible create a unique relationship with it—something that can’t be replicated by a phone or digital device that serves many functions.

  3. Dedicated Purpose

    • A physical Bible is used exclusively for connecting with the Lord, unlike a phone that’s also used for entertainment, communication, and other distractions.

  4. Growth and Personal Record

    • A physical Bible reflects spiritual growth over time—through highlights, handwritten notes, and even tears on its pages—showing transformation through the Word.

  5. Historical and Enduring Authenticity

    • The physical Bible connects believers to the timeless tradition of reading Scripture as it was in the early church, providing an unchanging, lasting way to experience God’s truth.

Do spend time in God’s word. Pray that God will supply the Bibles and postage so we can send them to the people who need them and request them. There are people in your life that love you. On this Mother’s Day, call your mother. Don’t wait until it’s too late. Not much needs to be said but to say “I love you mom,” or “I’m sorry mom.” That’s all that’s needed. The rest will flow from there.

Honour thy father and thy mother, as the LORD thy God hath commanded thee; that thy days may be prolonged, and that it may go well with thee, in the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee. – Deuteronomy 5:16 (KJB)

For I was my father’s son, tender and only beloved in the sight of my mother. – Proverbs 4:3 (KJB)

Hatred stirreth up strifes: but love covereth all sins. – Proverbs 10:12 (KJB)

Hearken unto thy father that begat thee, and despise not thy mother when she is old. – Proverbs 23:22 (KJB)

If you didn’t call on Mother’s Day, call now. You won’t regret it.

Which Bible can you trust?

The post The Bible and The Prophets of Baal first appeared on Close to Jesus.

God told me something about the King James Bible and it had to do with this verse:

(1 Kings 18:22) “Then said Elijah unto the people, I, even I only, remain a prophet of the LORD; but Baal’s prophets are four hundred and fifty men.”

King Ahab has accused Elijah of troubling Israel with a drought that lasted three years. Elijah answered him:

(1 Kings 18:18) “And he answered, I have not troubled Israel; but thou, and thy father’s house, in that ye have forsaken the commandments of the LORD, and thou hast followed Baalim.”

Who is the true prophet?

Who is telling the truth? We know it is Elijah. To prove who is the true God, Baal or the LORD, Elijah sets up a test. It is Elijah against 450 prophets of Baal.

(1 Kings 18:23-24) “Let them therefore give us two bullocks; and let them choose one bullock for themselves, and cut it in pieces, and lay it on wood, and put no fire under: and I will dress the other bullock, and lay it on wood, and put no fire under: {24} And call ye on the name of your gods, and I will call on the name of the LORD: and the God that answereth by fire, let him be God. And all the people answered and said, It is well spoken.”

Elijah pouring water on the altar with his sacrifice unto the LORD.It comes to pass that Baal never answers the 450 prophets of his. Their offering is not consumed by fire. Now it is Elijah’s turn. He prepares the offering and douses the altar with water. There will be no doubt about who consumed it with fire.

(1 Kings 18:37-38) “Hear me, O LORD, hear me, that this people may know that thou art the LORD God, and that thou hast turned their heart back again. {38} Then the fire of the LORD fell, and consumed the burnt sacrifice, and the wood, and the stones, and the dust, and licked up the water that was in the trench.”

We can see by what happened that Elijah is telling the truth and that he serves the LORD God. The 450 prophets of Baal serve a god who is not true or real. They are the false prophets. Elijah is the true prophet of God.

Which Bible?

Now, this is what God told me this morning. Elijah represents the King James Bible (KJB). The 450 prophets of Baal represent all the modern English bibles. God has provided us his Word in an English translation called the King James Bible. It is the truth that comes from God. All the other versions of the bible in English are deceptive counterfeits. There can be only one version of the truth and that comes from God. All the rest come from man.

You can read the entire account of Elijah and the Prophets of Baal in your Bible at 1 Kings 18:17-40.

Our modern society doesn’t have many tales of people and what they say when they die, since many people are sedated when they die. The following book was originally published in 1898 and contains 236 testimonies of what happened when these people died. Read: Dying Testimonies of Saved and Unsaved.

There is a practice in the modern church, even those that claim to use the King James Bile. That practice is to use Holy Ghost and Holy Spirit interchangeably. This ought not to be and this is why.

(Revelation 22:18-19) “For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book: {19} And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.”

Any time you change the words from what the King James Bible records you are doing two things:

  1. Removing words (i.e. “take away”)
  2. Adding words (i.e. “add unto these things”)

This is a scary thing based on the warnings in Revelation 22:18-19. Consider the following facts from the King James Bible (1769):

  • “Holy Ghost” appears 90 times in the KJB.
  • “Holy Spirit” appears once in the KJB.
  • “holy Spirit” appears five times in the KJB.
  • “holy spirit” appears once in the KJB.

Now, let’s look at a modern Bible version – the New International Version © 2011. (NOTE: I wasn’t able to find a website with case sensitive searching capabilities for the NIV.)

  • “Holy Ghost” appears zero times in the NIV.
  • “Holy Spirit” appears 96 times in the NIV.

Of all the Bibles commonly used today, only the KJB has the Holy Ghost. (It should be noted that the earlier English Bibles also contained “Holy Ghost” – the Geneva Bible – 1560, the Tyndale Bible – 1526, and the Wycliff Bible – 1382.) Why then, we must ask, do people who use the King James Bible change this one word from Ghost to Spirit? We will dig deeper into this topic in future posts.

God bless, Mike

My friend who is a missionary in India shared this video with me. It’s reporting about the persecution of Christians in northeastern India. Watch the news story below and remember to pray fervently for the Christians in India.

My wife and I were talking about it and remembered a movie we watched that chronicled the establishment of the Christian church in the district of Manipur. The movie we watched is Beyond the Next Mountain. It tells the true story of how Christianity came to this remote area of India through one missionary. I highly recommend you watch it.

God bless, Mike

In the first chapter of Exodus we are told of a command given by the king of Egypt to two midwives of the Hebrews. Israel (the Hebrews) are under bondage to Egypt because the of the new king.

(Exodus 1:8) “Now there arose up a new king over Egypt, which knew not Joseph.”

This is the command that he gave the midwives:

(Exodus 1:15-16) “¶ And the king of Egypt spake to the Hebrew midwives, of which the name of the one was Shiphrah, and the name of the other Puah: {16} And he said, When ye do the office of a midwife to the Hebrew women, and see them upon the stools; if it be a son, then ye shall kill him: but if it be a daughter, then she shall live.”

He is commanding them to kill all the sons of Israel. The government of Egypt is telling them to kill babies. However, the midwives did not obey the king.

(Exodus 1:17) “But the midwives feared God, and did not as the king of Egypt commanded them, but saved the men children alive.”

Because the midwives chose to obey God and save their infant sons from death, God blessed them.

(Exodus 1:20-21) “Therefore God dealt well with the midwives: and the people multiplied, and waxed very mighty. {21} And it came to pass, because the midwives feared God, that he made them houses.”

Since Pharaoh (king of Egypt) didn’t get his way with the Hebrew midwives, he then commanded his own people to kill the newborn sons of Israel.

(Exodus 1:22) “And Pharaoh charged all his people, saying, Every son that is born ye shall cast into the river, and every daughter ye shall save alive.”

Later in Exodus, God calls Moses to lead Israel out of Egypt through a series of judgments against Egypt. These judgments are a picture of the final judgments told of in the book of Revelation. Could it be that one of the reasons God judges Egypt is their guilt in killing the newborn sons of Israel? I would say yes.

Recently, the Supreme Court of the United States overturned Roe v. Wade. This removed the federal approval of abortion and put it back to the states. Many states were ready for this with bills and laws to immediately make abortion illegal. The opposite is true also in that some states are making abortion legal within their borders. In fact, there are people that want to be able to kill a baby after it has been born! This is just like what was done in Egypt so long ago. Yes, we are ripe for judgment.

May God have mercy on us and my the people of our nation repent of this great evil.
