I wonder why there is never much I have to say about the men on red carpet. It always looks like a sea of penguins…..I’m sorry! I just have to cultivate an eye and appreciation for the black/white and navy suits. The men do look dapper though, but I can hardly say the styles apart. But on this night, David Oyelowo, another Briton did not escape my gaze. I really liked this Dolce & Gabbana suit’s color and texture on him. I also thought the bow tie went well with this three piece. Mrs. Oyelowo looked nice and didn’t outshine the star, which was a very good thing.

Priyanka Chopra owned the red carpet hands down this year. Not only did she take home the award for Quantico, she was also the best dressed….at least according to moi!

The dazzling halter neck, racer back, midi flare bottom dress by Vera Wang, was the perfect choice. The gun powder, silver, and gold sequins announced her arrival for sure. The make-up and hair did justice to the overall look. And the silver stiletto pumps actually complimented the dress instead of overwhelming the bling factor.
I’m sorry as I cannot comment on any other look, because I couldn’t get over this look of Priyanka even after the day after….hehe!

The ‘Essentials’ Queen of Seventh Avenue, Donna Karan has stepped down as chief designer from her namesake company, which is owned by LVMH.
She started her fashion career under Anne Klein in the 1960s. She later became well known and an American fashion sweet heart with her very first collection, Essentials, in 1985. This collection was just that, seven (essential) items, ready to be mixed and matched, but yet a complete wardrobe in itself. She is credited to have majorly influenced how working women dressed in America for the past 30 decades.
Fans keep heart, as she isn’t going too far away from her artistic calling. She would be continuing her design magic with British designer Sonja Nuttall with Urban Zen.
She also continues with her philanthorpic pursuits.

As my AA degree in Apparel Designing is winding down at FIT, the often asked question of ‘what next’ is turning into an unavoidable boom box bass noise and no longer the sweet musings of a starry eyed newbie in the halls of creative wonderland of FIT. Working full time in a totally unrelated field does not make it any easier to answer that question. And lacking the proverbial sought after internships or connections in the fashion world forces me to wonder, what was I thinking when I felt I could make a mark in fashion with a degree! 7 years should have made me a pro in any field but here I’m at the threshold of completing a degree program and feel like I know zilch! Some professors and students actually have said that an AA degree is just the first step into the fashion industry, however, considering I’m in the evening weekend program that is designed for professionals to find the door into the industry I think most graduates feel the way I do, i.e. now what?
So in my ongoing pursuit of ‘what next’, I’ve been having different ideas of breaking into the fashion scene, most are day dreams. But in the process I have accumulated some information scattered around the Internet that could be useful to many fledgling designers who want to start their own apparel business especially in NYC.
As an added tip, any FIT student still deciding on what professor to take for the Apparel Product Data Management (WedPDM) course, try to study under Professor Leonard Bess. He has done a great job with this dull and technically difficult course. If you want to get a glimpse of what fashion business feels like, then take this course with him and be prepared to either hate him or be forever grateful. He has redesigned this course as CSSIL (Case Study Simulation and Immersive Learning) and WebPDM skills becomes very easy to acquire.
