At Thorncroft Equestrian Center in Malvern, horses and people are their specialty. A premier leader in the field of therapeutic horsemanship, the farm embraces the continuing education and development of high quality programs and instruction. Thorncroft brings out the gifts and abilities of all people and helps them realize their potential. Since 1969, it has provided a safe haven for children and adults with and without disabilities. The Farm now includes 70 acres of open space, a conference center, office space and two beautiful indoor arenas.

As the summer season wanes and the wisp of fall is in the air, Thorncroft is hosting its popular 9th annual Run for Thorncroft on Thursday evening, September 3rd. The event offers a 5k trail run, a 5k walk-only and a one mile move-as-you-please. Dogs, on a leash, can participate with their owners in all facets of the race. All participants are invited to stay for a fun and very social happy hour post race for an additional charge–featuring yummy food trucks, live music, pony meets and greets in the barn, and the always popular beer garden.

This is truly a Chester County gem of an event and an awesome family tradition to continue or start–all for a good cause!

Each year Ruston Farm donates 15% of their agricultural yield to the Chester County Food Bank and West Chester Food Cupboard.

Because of its unique approach to agriculture, Rushton Farm has become a beloved community resource and a powerful education and outreach vehicle, attracting volunteers, students, researchers and aspiring farmers to participate throughout the seasons.

Owner Ann Phillips and her husband make quite the impressionable couple. Bill played for Coach Phil Martelli at Saint Joe’s–the former Hawk standout is 6’10!
The Main Line, Philly burbs and the city are seeing an incredible fitness boom in 2026. Dozens of privately owned boutique studios and national franchises have either opened…or are planning to open soon!

Among the new wave of high-energy, results-driven fitness experiences-where strength, sweat, and confidence collide-is HiLo House Fitness, out of Wilmington, Delaware. The studio opened its first Pennsylvania locale a few weeks ago in Media. This past Saturday (April 11th) they held a high voltage, community grand opening party and we were there! What is Hilo House Fitness? We went one-on-one with owner Ann Phillips who is the second owner of the studio, a former principal at Ursuline Academy in Delaware, and now a dedicated fitness entrepreneur and wellness ambassador.

AroundMainLine: How did you come to own Hilo House Fitness?

Ann Phillips: I found HiLo on its first birthday in 2021—right after we moved into the apartments above the studio. I walked in as a guest and instantly fell in love. The energy, the people, the combination of VersaClimber and Lagree—it completely changed the game for me. ⚡

Hilo House Fitness Opens in MediaIn 2023, I started coaching both methods while still working as a middle school principal at Ursuline. I loved both roles, but I kept feeling pulled toward HiLo.

After the 2023–2024 school year, I made the decision to close that chapter and fully IGNITE a new path in health and wellness. The original plan? Coach at HiLo and build my own personal training business.

But then the opportunity to buy HiLo came up—and Bill and I knew we had to go for it.

Our vision was clear: elevate what already existed, grow our Wilmington community, and expand the HiLo experience so more people could feel the power of these methods and our community.

And we’re just getting started. 🔥

AML: Tell us about the studio’s background.

Ann: HiLo Wilmington opened in August 2020. I purchased the studio in July of 2024. HiLo Media soft opened on March 28th and our big Grand Opening was last Saturday, April 11th.

Hilo House Fitness Opens in MediaAML: What does the name mean?

Ann: Two fold: Both of our workout are HI-Intensity and LO-impact (incredible workout but no impact on your joints/connective tissue)

The “HI” is the VersaClimber, a unique, vertical, high intensity but low impact cardio machine that simulates climbing using both the upper and lower body.

The “LO” is the slow and controlled movements of Lagree on the new Mega Pros.

AML: Give us a sense of who takes your classes.

Ann: Our community is made up of people who are ready to LVL UP. ⚡ From athletes, to former athletes to busy professionals, runners, lifters, and those just starting their fitness journey—you’ll find a little bit of everything inside HiLo. What connects our guests isn’t where they come from, it’s how they show up: ready to push past their comfort zone, stay consistent, and be part of something bigger than just a workout.

Hilo House Fitness Opens in Media

AML: A million boutique fitness studios are opening, many centered on Pilates. What do you attribute this recent fitness boom to?

Ann: I think it is two fold.

Hilo House Fitness Opens in MediaIt’s a reflection of how people’s relationship with fitness has evolved. Today, people want more than just a box gym, they want to take a coach-led class, they want an experience, they want to see results, and they want to build connections.

There’s been a clear shift toward low-impact, sustainable training—and both Pilates and Lagree naturally fit into that space. Where some confusion comes in, especially locally, is that many studios use Lagree-inspired equipment and programming but aren’t trained or licensed in the method. Because of that, they can’t call it Lagree, so it’s often labeled as a version of Pilates. At HiLo, we’re proud to offer the true Lagree Method—taught by licensed coaches and delivered as it was designed—so our guests know they’re getting the real experience and results.

AML: What sets your studio apart?

Ann: The experience and the intention behind everything we do. We’re not just another boutique studio. We combine two of the most effective methods (Lagree and VersaClimber) to deliver a true HI-intensity, LO-impact workout that builds strength, endurance, and resilience all in one place. And as an official Lagree & VersaClimber studio, our guests know they’re getting the real methods and can see the results!

Hilo House Fitness Opens in Media

AML: Do you offer any promos for high school or college athletes? Seems like the perfect summer training program to us…

Ann: Yes, we always offer a student discount on our 5-Class Pack and our Unlimited Escape Membership. For the summer, we will be offering a special student 3-month summer membership for $499.

Hilo House Fitness Opens in Media

Hilo House Fitness Opens in MediaAML: Anything else fun planned here in Media or Wilmington this spring?

Ann: Tons of stuff on the horizon.

Moms of Media Private HiLo/SweatHouz event on April 26th.

True by Kristy will be popping up with us in Media on June 13th.

We are planning a Mahjong event in Wilmington in June.

AML: More studios to come?

Ann: Yes! We are eyeing Philly for #3.

veri cheri wants girls to embrace their uniqueness, own their confidence, and love themselves – inside and out.

Montco Mompreneur Lauren Oblak has launched veri cheri, a mission-driven business that creates empowering experiences for tween girls. Through pop-up parties, self-care kits, and interactive workshops, veri cheri blends self-care fun with affirmations and meaningful self-discovery.

Parents of young girls often find themselves dealing with dips in self-esteem during early adolescence. “veri cheri wants to offer these girls a joyful space to celebrate their individuality,” says Oblak.

While the veri cheri experience includes self-care products and lifestyle goodies to engage girls, it’s the affirmation activities, peer connection, and powerful mantras that work to deliver the underlying message: true beauty actually comes from within.
Oblak, a mom of two, was inspired by her young daughter. “I wanted to create something that could encourage girls to be bold and authentic while they’re still forming their sense of self.”

“The concept evolved from a series of experiences in my adult life — struggling with my own self-worth, noticing the appearance pressure social media is putting on young girls, having a daughter, seeing 10-year-olds storm the makeup counters at Sephora… and realizing something felt off. The essence of the brand is meeting girls where they are, with their interest in makeup, skincare, and lifestyle goodies, while helping them understand they don’t actually need any of those things to be whole.” –Lauren Oblak

There’s no doubt the post-Covid fitness studio slump is starting to wane. And that is good news for local entrepreneurs chomping at the bit to get in the Main Line wellness game and those who want plenty of workout options and convenient locations. Proof? Dozens of new fitness studios will open their doors around the Main Line in 2026.

With a 50 minute class model and seamless transitions, JETSET Pilates focuses on precision, flow, and a personalized approach to full-body conditioning grounded in client experience.
Expect a big Pilates presence as a very hefty chunk of the newcomers. A reformer studio, both new and established, will dot almost every town along Route 30 from City Line to Exton and beyond (more on that to come). And with local traffic growing more and more challenging, that might not necessarily be a bad thing. Early standouts? The young Main Line mom with swol 55,000 TikTok followers—who have been flooding her feed with nonstop compliments on her fun construction updates—to take the competitive lead. We see you Maria G…and are pumped to watch the crib come to fruition.

Coming Soon: JETSET Pilates Haverford

Ready for takeoff in early 2026 is Haverford’s JETSET Pilates—a national fitness franchise brand new to the Delaware Valley that is set to open by the end of January. Touting on their website “the modern Pilates experience,” JETSET opened its very first Pennsylvania location this November in Graduate Hospital.

The Miami-based, mega former franchise is continuing its nationwide growth with aggressive expansion in the Greater Philadelphia area. The brand has officially signed a 12-unit agreement with a local real estate investor who is developing the Philly footprint at a rapid pace. The Philadelphia expansion will strategically target key neighborhoods and suburbs including Haverford, Northern Liberties, Rittenhouse Square, King of Prussia, West Chester, Cherry Hill, and Marlton.

JETSET Haverford studio manager Stacey Hackett is a GOAT in the local fitness community with over twenty years of experience. Hackett also manages the brand new Philly locale. Pilates chicas near and far praised her hire on a recent Instagram post with comments like: “Queen Stace” “Thee best!” “Queen!” “Legend” “Hardest Worker Ever” “Stacey is the best!” and “They are so lucky to have you!!”

“We are beyond excited to bring the JETSET experience to Philadelphia, a region that truly embraces fitness, innovation, and lifestyle-forward thinking,” said Tamara Galinsky, Founder and Brand President of JETSET Pilates. “This market is a perfect match for our modern musical approach to Pilates, and we’re committed to becoming a staple in the local wellness community.”

Glu Hospitality, owners of Bagels + Co., opened and closed a location in downtown Ardmore in less than a year. Since then, a boom of new, and coming soon, like-minded breakfast & bagel spots are taking over.
Perceptive Main Liners took note on social media threads this fall when Ardmore’s Bagels & Co. silently shuttered their doors. So quickly that even the Ardmore Business Association was asking what happened. “Have you noticed? Bagels & Co. on Cricket Ave has closed its doors — does anyone know why,” inquired a post on the Ardmore Business’ Facebook page with a photo (of a note) on the shop’s door.

Bagels & Co., owned by Glu Hospitality, opened that spot on October 17th, 2024. By September 2nd this fall, less than a year later, it had closed.

Fast forward to the end of this year and a lot of new breakfast and bagel spots have sprouted–or are coming soon–to one of the Main Line’s most popular downtowns. As they say, when one door shuts–another one opens. In this case—many doors.

Bored Trading Cafe

Bored Trading Cafe

Bored Trading Cafe opened on December 19th–taking over the vacant spot on Cricket Avenue that formerly housed Bagels & Co. Their Facebook page touts them as “an all-day café serving chef-inspired, made-to-order food and in-house roasted coffee.” It appears they have other locations in West Chester and a pop-up in Old City. (We reached out to these folks for some business info and clarification but as of press time we had not heard back from them.)

The Bored Trading Cafe menu offers a definitive selection of breakfast classics and a whole lot of savory lunch options. We loved all of it but some standouts, well, stood out: breakfast burrito, monte cristo, french toast sticks, croissant burger, chicken tenders, danishes, cruffins and croissants. In addition to all-day breakfast options, they also serve smoothies and a wide variety of java, matcha, tea and espresso-based beverages.

By the way, we are confident The Bored people are anything but boring or bored, lol. An instagram story on our AroundMainLine feed announcing their opening absolutely BLEW up our engagement with a record amount of eyeballs. Ardmore, your breakfast jawn has arrived.

Saturday, January 10th 7:30am to close.

  • FREE coffee for the first 100 guests
  • $10 gift card for new app and website users

Malvern Buttery

Malvern Buttery

In July of 2015, Malvern Buttery opened in Eastside Flats on King Street in Malvern. Fast forward a decade plus with new owners and a recent rapid expansion with Main Line-centric locations, and this isn’t Kansas, ‘er Malvern, anymore Toto.

One of the newest Buttery spots is inside the Ardmore Farmers Market (with a stall) in Suburban Square. It opened the first week of October. And unlike the Wayne Farmers Market, the Ardmore Market is open 7 days a week. Malvern Buttery boasts freshly baked goods like croissants, baguettes and artisanal breads–and has become known for their clearly defined, elevated aesthetic to breakfast.

Plans for a third location in Bryn Mawr are under construction at the old Kindred Collective fashion boutique and slated for a Spring 2026 timeline. A smaller footprint of Malvern Buttery was at the Malvern Train Station for a short time (we just love that building) but it closed for good on December 19th.

Eleni and Danny Chrisidis, of Newtown Square, opened a European-inspired specialty coffee shop in downtown Ardmore on October 12th. The cafe selections are rooted in their Greek heritage and include everyone’s favorite–Spanakopita.

We were hired this summer to promote The Brewroom—pre-opening. You probably have seen them on our socials and on our website here with this coming soon feature.

The Brewroom is planning a Grand Opening on Saturday, January 10th from 12pm to 4pm complete with a DJ, complimentary chocolate martinis, free food samples and surprises. Plus, a custom aluminium bottle gift for the first 100 guests. It is free to attend and children are welcome. Follow their social media channels for more information.

Their address is 10 Coulter Avenue–directly across from Shake Shack and a hop, skip and and a jump from SoulCycle with plenty of parking in the public lot adjacent to the train station.

Everything about these guys says bigger-bolder-better. From their killer website to the ridiculously inventive schmears that had our heads exploding (Matcha? Blueberry rumble? Brown sugar cinnamon butter? Gingerbread?), to their almost 50K bussin TikTok feed this is bagel A-game stuff.

A boutique bagel franchise started in 2020 by two Connecticut guys (I’m a UConn grad so they most certainly have my attention), Pop Up has been opening up nonstop locations. Check out their IG or TikTok feed–and brace yourself for a tsunami of schmear, my dears. Did I mention we are kind of excited to pop over and see the drip in person? Open up soon…Pop Up!

The 48th Radnor Run will mark the conclusion of this cherished community Main Line tradition. Over nearly five decades, the run has covered 240 miles and united thousands in the community for advancing lung health. On Sunday, October 26th at 7:00 a.m., participants of all fitness levels are invited to take part in this year’s final event with options including a 5-mile race, 1-mile Fun Run and a scenic 2-mile trail walk. With over 750 runners and walkers expected, this year celebrates a lasting legacy of community impact and commitment to those affected by lung disease.

In the last 20 years, the Radnor Run has raised over $1.7 million dollars to support lung health–with a goal to raise an additional $120,000 at this year’s final event.
In the last 20 years, the Radnor Run has raised over $1.7 million dollars to support lung health–with a goal to raise an additional $120,000 at this year’s final event.
Established in 1977 by the Radnor Township Parks & Recreation Department, the Radnor Run, in partnership with Penn Medicine, is a celebrated tradition for local runners and the community to make a positive impact on the lives of those affected by lung disease. Registration is now open.

“In our final year of the Radnor Run, we take a moment to reflect and celebrate on the event’s legacy as Radnor Township has been proud to be part of the American Lung Associations’ strides to improve lung health by seeing its positive impact on others. Whether it’s been warm sun or falling snow, this October tradition has given those impacted by lung disease comfort and support through community connections and support. This year, we are poised to FINISH STRONG with gratitude to the thousands of participants and sponsors of the last 48 years,” said Tammy Cohen, Director of Parks & Recreation at Radnor Township.

This year’s event takes place at the Radnor Township Building & Grounds. In the last twenty years, the Radnor Run has raised $1,753,346 to support lung health, with a goal to raise an additional $120,000 at this year’s event to support research, advocacy and education for lung diseases, including lung cancer, COVID-19 and other respiratory diseases.

Participants can choose between completing a timed and certified 5-mile race on a challenging course through the beautiful backroads of Wayne, PA. New this year are built-in course challenges as well as a designated “Motivation Mile” through Willows Park and the Newtown Rd. exit where volunteers will hand out water and cheer participants up the hill. The event also includes a 1-Mile Fun Run in which all finishers receive a medal, and an untimed 2-Mile Trail Walk for adults and youths of all ages on the scenic and stroller/wheelchair accessible Radnor Trail (run the 5 or 1-Mile race and join your friends and family on the Trail Walk). Registrants can also opt to participate virtually in their own neighborhoods. All registered participants are encouraged to follow the Facebook page for training tips and event updates.

“For decades, the iconic Radnor Run has brought our community together in a strong show of support for lung health. Participants aren’t just running—they’re helping fund research, education and advocacy for the thousands in our area affected by lung disease,” said Caroline Hutchinson, Executive Director at the American Lung Association in Pennsylvania. “As we mark the final Radnor Run, we are thankful for Radnor Township, Penn Medicine, and are proud to celebrate the run’s legacy. While this event concludes, the Lung Association will continue our mission through other lung health events in the region.”

For online registration, visit radnorrun.org. Registration fees are: $48 for 5-Mile Race, $25 for 2-Mile Trail Walk (kids under 12 are free), and $25 for the 1-Mile Run. All participants who sign up or fundraise an additional $25 before October 1st are guaranteed to receive a Radnor Run event T-shirt. There will be a packet pick-up event prior to the race, stay posted at Lung.org/radnorrun.

Founding OTF members receive two free weeks of classes before the Main Line studio opens to the public this spring. All the more reason for fitness enthusiasts to start their Orangetheory experience with the new Devon locale!

“Everyone’s been talking about you,” enthuses the engaging cashier at the Devon Whole Foods. “When are you guys opening?”

She’s speaking to Orangetheory Fitness franchise owner Alan Damashek, who is so very smartly plucking America’s hottest fitness phenomenon right down in the heart of the Main Line this spring.

Damashek is grabbing a bite (with me) while construction moves along across the parking lot at his first Main Line Orangetheory Fitness studio—Orangetheory Devon.

For Main Liners, the building in the Devon Village Shopping Center is known as the former Hartstrings. It was, most recently, a temporary fitness space for a local Crossfit biz.

The dead giveaway Damashek is the “guy” everyone is talking about? He’s in the checkout line “on brand”—wearing a company polo with the highly recognized Orangetheory colors and “splat” logo.

“Thank you, that’s great to hear. We are moving along…soon soon,” beams Damashek. The 47-year-old Chappaqua, New York native (and current Westfield, New Jersey resident) knows a thing or two about this thing referred to by employees as “OTF.”

Damashek has been a very successful Orangetheory franchise owner for three years. His first two studios are in White Plains, New York and Marlboro, New Jersey. He is opening the Devon studio with business partner and lifelong friend Paul Blanchard (an Ironman triathlete).

Orangetheory is a high intensity, interval fitness franchise—with over 600 studios now open in the state and several in development, the brand will continue to target the Main Line surrounding areas for expansion.

Backed by the science of excess post-exercise oxygen consumption (EPOC), Orangetheory’s heart-rate-monitored workouts are designed to get participants within the target-training zone of 84 percent to 91 percent of their heart rate, which stimulates metabolism and increases energy. The 60 minute classes are all led by professional coaches to help ensure you don’t over or under-train.

Orangetheory Fitness launched its first studio in Fort Lauderdale in March of 2010. The fitness franchise is on track to open 700 studios later this year.

For a brand that is so intense and fast paced (the “Keep Burning” mantra/hashtag/tagline refers to your body’s ability to burn calories up to 36 hours after a vigorous 60 minute OTF workout), Damashek is a bit of a contradiction-a charismatic, cool cucumber who confidently knows he is bringing something very special to the region. And the fact that his studio will be in a parking lot that sees thousands of Main Liners regularly food shopping at Whole Foods in Devon is no coincidence.

He commutes now between his Jersey home, his other two studios and the Devon locale. So a little feedback from his well known parking lot neighbor is welcome chit chat to the busy entrepreneur.

“This is terrific to know we are being noticed. It’s good stuff.”

Good stuff may be putting it lightly. For those of you who have been living in a cave, the Main Line is completely bursting at the seams with a handful of new fitness businesses every month. Yoga, spin, barre, TRX, boutique boot camp styles, big box national players…all vying for a rapid shift in the local culture that is heavy on health (ex: Zoe’s Kitchen Wayne’s success shuts down the long lived McDonald’s) and happy to accommodate Main Line women who resemble seasoned triathletes these days more so than soccer Moms with muffin tops. OTF Devon certainly moves in as a major player and surging national brand at just the right time.

In between bites of orzo salad, spicy Southwest chicken and a few guzzles of a no cal, caffeine-ladened Goji berry soft drink, Damashek and I talk all things Main Line and his fortuitous timing with The Devon Horse Show. OTF Devon will open right around the DHS and their temporary business office faces the show grounds on Lancaster—you can just about envision the famous Devon Ferris wheel from Damashek’s desk. This is where Founding Members are signing up by the dozens with incentives like blocks of free classes and discounted heart rate monitors.

As for Damashek and team, it’s full steam ahead—construction is coming along faster than expected. The fitness equipment will be delivered in a couple of weeks. Training staff and answering the surging inquiries on their social is all par for the (busy) daily OTF course and building a brand that seemingly has no limits.

For his first Main Line locale, a terrific Grand Opening party is planned. Details soon!

Furthermore, Damashek has a regional territory that includes Orangetheory Ardmore.

As our lunch is wrapping up and Damashek’s phone continuously dings, I have to pry a little bit about location deux. But that’s for another day.

“We are excited about Ardmore, Sarah. We are working on a lease. But, don’t worry, as soon as I have the green light to share the location—you’ll be the first to know.”
And we’re most certain of that.
