EMS personnel assessed one injured patient who had exited the vehicle before their arrival. The patient was subsequently flown to a local trauma center for further evaluation and care.
At the end of their serviceable life, typically after five years, CALS seeks to support less fortunate departments in the DEL-MAR-VA region by offering their vehicles at a significantly reduced price. This initiative helps ensure that the vehicles continue to serve local communities and contribute to saving lives.
Recently, two CALS members, Chief10B Lavinge and Lieutenant Dickson, traveled to Allegheny County, Maryland, to deliver M103 to the Barton Hose Company. M103 will now serve the residents of Allegheny County for years to come.
The day began early at 8:00 a.m. with the 2026 Solomons Dragon Boat Races. This annual event attracts hundreds of spectators as well as multiple teams competing for the championship title. Calvert Advanced Life Support dedicated two medic units to stand by at the event alongside units from Solomons Volunteer Fire Department. The festivities continued until 2:30 p.m.
After a brief period of downtime, Calvert Marine Museum hosted a concert featuring "Brothers Osborne," a popular country band with thousands of fans. Calvert Advanced Life Support once again dedicated two units to provide medical coverage for the concert, working together with Solomons Volunteer Fire Department and St. Leonard Volunteer Fire Department.
Throughout the day, Calvert Advanced Life Support maintained five medic units in service from 7:00 a.m. until midnight, ensuring continuous coverage for emergency calls and special events across the county.

Engine 22 and Chief10B arrived at the scene together and proceeded to reach the injured individual. Upon arrival, Chief10B assessed the patient and found serious injuries, prompting a request for aviation to transport the individual to a trauma center.
Chief10B worked with members of Prince Frederick Volunteer Fire Department, PA204, and Chief10 to fully immobilize the patient using a longboard before removing him from the tractor. After the patient was safely removed, Chief10B, PA204, and Chief10 continued to evaluate his condition in the rear of PA204.
Maryland State Police Trooper 6 landed in the field adjacent to the scene and transported the patient to a regional trauma center.
Medic 102 and Chief 10B responded to the initial call. Upon arrival, first responders confirmed that one individual was trapped inside a vehicle and that there were four patients involved in total.
Medic 102 and Ambulance 68 began immediate medical care for the person trapped in the vehicle. When Chief 10B arrived on scene, assistance was provided with assessing and triaging the remaining patients, coordinating their care and transportation with incoming units.
Of the four patients, three were transported to a regional trauma center for further treatment, while the fourth patient was taken to a local hospital.
Kevin faithfully served as a PMIC with Calvert Advanced Life Support for many years and was promoted to the rank of Assistant Chief in 2014. Alongside his father, Kim Wells, Kevin dedicated countless hours to serving and protecting the residents of Calvert County. Their commitment to our community exemplified the true spirit of volunteerism.
Outside of his volunteer service, Kevin worked as a Critical Care Paramedic for the University of Maryland Medical Center ExpressCare Transport Team. He also had a passion for travel and embraced every opportunity to explore the world, creating lasting memories wherever he went.
Kevin's warm smile, calm demeanor, professionalism, and unwavering dedication touched everyone who had the privilege of serving alongside him. His presence will be deeply missed throughout our organization and by all who knew him.

On Friday, July 3rd, CALS assisted with fireworks events in both North Beach and Prince Frederick. Medic 104 and Medic 105 provided advanced life support coverage on land, while Rescue Boat 10 offered coverage on the water for fireworks launched from a barge in the harbor. While the fireworks display took place in North Beach, Utility 10 was assigned to Prince Frederick, where it provided advanced life support coverage at the fairgrounds.
On Saturday, July 4th, the Rescue Boat covered activities on the water in Solomons until it was removed due to incoming storms.
On Sunday, July 5th, CALS supported the rescheduled Solomons fireworks event. Chief 10B provided standby coverage, assisting Solomon’s Volunteer Rescue Squad and Fire Department on the island.
Chief 10 arrived on scene as the first fire department unit and began assessing patients in two different vehicles. All patients were evaluated, and one person accepted transport.
The incident involved two patients: one was classified as priority 3, and the other as priority 1. The priority 3 patient was evaluated by Ambulance 48 and Medic 102, while Chief 10B and Paramedic Ambulance 204 as well as EMS 20 attended to the individual trapped inside the vehicle.
Aviation transport was requested for the trapped patient. After the extrication was completed, the patient was prepared for transfer to a landing zone for air transport to a regional trauma center by Maryland State Police Aviation Command.
