We then went to Starbucks and then left to NIU. When we got there we started off in a room and every table or school made a poster and then a lady was talking about how to use e design. Then my small group left to another room where we learned about captions. They told us not to use caption that were obvious like for example lebron James is playing basketball instead you would give important info like lebron James had a stellar performance in the game with the lakers scoring 36 points. Then we went into another room where they taught us how to use a camera and what pictures to take. They said to take good action shots not a ton of pictures where people were staring smiling and ready for the picture like in a sport where they are in action. They also told us we can use our phones and we don’t need to use a super expensive camera or a camera at all we could just use our phones, then they said not to zoom in and you need to be on the field or court for good pictures instead of standing in the bleachers and zooming in. Then the last room we went to was about canva they taught us how to make pictures look better and outline them. They talked about how in canva they have free templates and pictures of things signs for example Netflix. They showed us how to do outlines in pictures and how many steps it takes. Then we went back to the first room where they said thank you and goodbye we left went to Portillo then when we left Mrs Cann decided to let the kids out for a fire drill.

He has served at the Abbey for 7 years as a cleaner and helps for pumpkin days. Br. Francis came here to seek God, join the church and reach the hearts of the young especially in today’s world. He wanted to be a monk because he Had a calling since he was a kid, then he went to a Monastery on a field trip,  and fell in love with the lifestyle. He says, “There is a deeper inner self that you feel as a monk that you don’t feel anywhere else.” He also says the hardest thing about being a monk is missing out on having a wife and kids, the family life, and a social life, only two weeks of vacation a year. He currently is at Waubonsie earning his GED. Throughout life he had many struggles. He also Works at ST. George, studies byzantine theology, and talks about prayer to the kids there. He has been there doing that for 3 years. Before the monastery he was a cook. In elementary school he played basketball. His advice to students is to be nice and support each other, like Christ did to the apostles, “we are family in and out of the monastery, we have to be nice here, the job of the monetary is to be there for the students.” He regrets not being dedicated to doing things in his younger life, not being able to learn back then when he was younger, And being more mature. “You cannot live a mysterious life, you have to have some kind of fun, you have to balance to be serious and have fun,” he says he needs to work on that.

One of those flights was on the 777-300 in Flagship First. I flew this route from MIA-DFW. The flight time was 2:30 for this short haul wide body flight. Earlier that day I flew from Savannah, Georgia on an ERJ-175 operated by Envoy. The landing into Miami was smooth and the weather in Miami made it an amazing day to fly! After we landed, we deplaned via Airstairs outside which was super cool, and I can happily cross that off my bucket list!  We then went to the international terminal, where we would board the 777-300 to Dallas-Fort Worth. When walking onboard, I was greeted with a masked smile and an amenity kit which was just a hand wipe and a blanket, which I requested. Boarding was about 30 minutes because I was in one of the eight Flagship First seats and no other passengers were walking by during the boarding process. In no time the boarding door was closed, and we were pushing back on our way to DFW.

Once we got into the air and above 10,000FT, the Flight Attendants were already preparing for the lunch meal service. For lunch I had the option of a yogurt and cheese box or a turkey and cheese sandwich entree. I selected the Turkey and cheese sandwich entree. For the rest of the flight, I turned my seat into a bed in which I would fall asleep for about an hour. When I woke up, we were about an hour away from Dallas. I decided to walk around the plane as this was my first time on the 777-300. The Flagship Business product was pretty similar to the Flagship First product, just a lot smaller.

After the walk around, it was time to prepare for landing. The seat was so roomy that there was more than enough space to stow everything without having to put it up in my personal overhead bin. We landed in DFW about 20 minutes early which in my opinion was a little disappointing. We then pulled into the gate and de-planned and went to the next flight which was on the 787-9 in Flagship Business .

Overall I would say this was one of my favorite flights that I took this summer. The  777-300 was one of the roomier seats I’ve sat in and the flight was amazing for American Airlines. I would say that my overall rating would be a 8/10. The reason I gave it a 8/10 was because of COVID-19 restrictions. There were no pre-flight drinks and a full meal service like in the past. Other than that it was a very good trip! See you in the skies.

Their record is 12-7-1 and has been practicing out at Powers field for the whole fall season. The soccer team plays in one of the hardest conferences in the state and took on many tough teams. Some highlights of the year are coming out victorious against St. Ignatius, St. Lawrence, and beating Fenwick. They had just beat Sycamore last night with a score of 2-1. The player of the week Barry O’Neill scored 3 goals along with 4 assists in two games to help the team make their goal of making the State Championship. This team is exciting to watch and were looking forward to watching them win the State title.

At this retreat, there were kids from mainly grades 4th-8th that wanted to deepen their faith and relationships with God. We played fun games and did activities related to faith to stay on topic. This was a three hour retreat, broken into small and large group discussions. Hopefully we helped make a small difference in these kids’ lives. Overall, this was a great experience, and I would highly recommend it to any and all Marmion students.

On Tuesday there was a commissioning where 11 ministers were commissioned in front of the whole school. The other 8 were commissioned on Sunday at the Abbey Mass. Throughout the summer,  these ministers of the Eucharist have been working countless hours filling out paperwork and praying. As a Eucharistic Ministers, they believe that the body of Christ is in the Eucharist. These cadets are in this ministry of delivering the Eucharist to parishioners to help the faith community Marmion. With being commissioned, they now get to deliver Eucharist at their home parishes. The 19 ministers that were commissioned on Tuesday and Sunday will be helping out with All School Masses and daily masses for the rest of the year. “When I became Catholic, I knew the first time I took the Eucharist that it was the body of Christ, and that I wanted to become more involved with the Catholic Church in my faith life,”  shared Charlie Meier. Many that have chosen to go through the process of becoming a minister have similar feelings. To be able to assist others in celebrating the eucharist is an honor that these 19 young men take seriously. Additionally, these  19 Marmion students are always available for prayer and to help you get involved with the ministry.

After no events last year because Covid, the bonfire was Wednesday, October 6th. Luckily, the weather this time held out so we could all enjoy the activities such as the volleyball tournament, the club and sport parade, the bouncy houses, and the bonfire. This year for the volleyball tournament, the senior team led by Vlad Erickson won the volleyball tournament. With the help of Matt Harris as the head coach, this duo was unstoppable. It was great to see the pure school pride and competition these marmion students have. The night was a success and I can’t wait for next year!

I jumped on the chance to book this trip. I arrived at O’hare Airport and went through the priority check in line. There I checked on the status of my upgrade as I’m an AAdvantage Gold Elite Member. This means on flights under 500 miles, I get complimentary upgrades. I eventually found out that all the seats in First Class were taken and my upgrade was denied. Later I found out that the ticketing agent blocked out the whole row as she felt bad that my upgrade was denied. There was no chance for a visit to the Admirals Club on this trip because when I got to the gate group 2 was already boarding. As a Gold Member, I get priority boarding in group 4. American Airlines boarding process goes from Concierge Key, Group 1 and First Class and Executive Platinum, Group 2 Platinum Pro, Group 3 Platinum and Group 4 Gold. When I got on board, I soon realized that there were only about 50 passengers on the whole A319. We pushed back and took off very fast. The flight to MSP was super nice, as I had my own row. We landed at a very crowded MSP airport which was nice to see as the last time I flew into MSP it was empty. I got off the aircraft and 5 min later we were reboarding the same A319 that flew me up there. I checked the seat map and moved me to the first row of Economy. My upgrade request would eventually be denied as First Class was full again. When I got on the aircraft, I found out that the middle seat onboard was blocked out, which was nice. The lady that sat on the isle was a retired flight attendant for American. For almost the whole flight, we talked about all the places she had traveled and how retirement is going. Eventually we landed in O’hare which would complete my trip. I’d rate this trip a 9/10. The seat was very good and the onboard service was a lot better than previous flights this month.  Until next time, See you in the skies.
