We also talk about his writing, including his Hugo nominated story, "Ashes to Ashes, Dust to Dust, Earth to Alluvium," which unfortunately got caught up in the whole Sad Puppies / Rabid Puppies controversy (although Gray himself mostly stayed out of it. His reaction post, I think, demonstrates a measured response to the whole thing).

A couple of notes about some minor changes: I've decided to include two or three full songs in each episode rather than just excerpts. That will save me some time in editing, plus it's probably a better way to promote the music anyway. Second, I've also decided to change up the show notes introduction. I'm just going to write a bit about the artist's most recent release(s) instead of trying to break down what we talked about. You'd be surprised by how much time and effort that takes to do. And finally, I decided to continue the numbering of the episodes rather than restart. I'm not really changing anything too major, so I felt like it just made sense.
In this episode, I talk again to Marc with a C. His latest release is the 10" EP (yes, you should definitely be getting it on vinyl!), Half Serious, Half Kidding, as well as an upcoming vinyl version of his interpretations of songs from the Shock Treatment soundtrack which you can pre-order now. He will also be releasing a new album in 2018 produced by Jordon Zadorozny of Blinker the Star. So keep an eye out for that (and expect him to return when that comes out!).

Meanwhile, though, in this episode of the Fandomania: Geek Music podcast, I talk again to Insane Ian. In the interview, we talked about how bad my early episodes were, the prolific output of Insane Ian since he last appeared, the 10th anniversary of the FuMP, rewatching stuff from our childhoods, MarsCon (which, I just realized, is going on the weekend this comes out – oops! I forgot to promote it! Uh, if you happen to be in the Minneapolis area, maybe you can still go?), reserving judgment on upcoming movies and shows, and comic books.

Also, I have not actually had Wordburglar on the show despite the fact that I seemed to think that I had in the episode.... I have no idea why I thought I had; maybe it was a fever dream that I had one time? Yeah, I bet that's it…

I debated whether or not to do one of these lists this year. The past few years have seen the list expand and expand in order to accommodate more releases, which seems to me to kinda defeat the purpose. But then I started to see Best of 2016 lists from various places, and I got sucked back into the idea. I figured if Bob Boilen and Robin Hilton from NPR's All Songs Considered can narrow their lists down to ten (well, Boilen did have some "honorable mentions," too), then surely I can do the same, especially since I have a smaller list to begin with. And I also remembered something that Boilen said last year in regards to his top ten: "There is no 'best' in music, just ones we love. There is no right or wrong, just ones that fuel our soul."
Here are the ten releases (along with the song I played in the episode) in alphabetical order; you'll have to listen to find out the rankings:

Also, I want to put out a call to fans of geek music. During the months of June and July, I'm hoping to record some banked episodes of the podcast for August, September, and maybe even October. If you're a fan of geek music, I'd love to talk to you about that fandom as well as any other fan-related stuff you'd like to talk about. If you're interested, get in touch and we'll set something up (details below).
