Foster Friday: Foster Failures and Happy Adoptions

Here at Angel City Pit Bulls, we are no strangers to the term “foster failure.” In fact, almost all of our core members and most devoted volunteers can be crowned with this title. Now, if you do not know what this means, don’t be alarmed - no parties involved are actually FAILING at anything. There are actually a lot of good, happy things going on for both dogs and people.

Within the rescue community, the term “foster failure” simply means that you are adopting the animal you brought into your home to foster. Sometimes when you bring a dog home with every intention of preparing them for their forever family, you just don’t realize right away that this dog is already in his or her forever home. It happens; it doesn’t mean you have failed, it just means that you have saved another life and gained a new member to your family.

Recently we’ve had several of these “foster failures”, one of them being our young boy Linus. Angel City Pit Bulls met Linus while volunteering at the Baldwin Park Shelter, and we thought he would be adopted quickly. He is a happy-go-lucky guy with lots of love to give. A few months went by, and still Linus had not been adopted. This dumbfounded not only us, but also his foster family. They just loved him SO much that they couldn’t see why people weren’t jumping at the chance to bring Linus into their family.

Then came the Best Friends Super Adoption; Linus’s foster family couldn’t imagine returning home without him after the weekend, and decided to officially adopt. That was when we all realized, that the reason why he hadn’t gotten adopted before … was because Linus was already in his forever home!

Not only is Linus a great dog, who now has a new, loving family, but he is also a black-colored dog. For reasons attributed to outdated myths and the color of their fur, black dogs have a harder time getting adopted and are often overlooked. What Linus’ new family knows - what we know, and what anyone who owns a black dog knows, really - is that all dogs are individuals. The color of a dog’s fur has no correlation to their desire to be a loving family pet!

This month we are celebrating the adoptions of black dogs everywhere – including Linus - as we participate in Best Friends Back in Black II. Through this campaign started by Best Friends, we are offering 50% reduced adoption fees on all dogs who happen to have black fur! Our other black dogs include Georgia, Dove and Nemo. Come meet all of our dogs this Saturday at the Sepulveda Basin Dog Park – your new family member could be there waiting to meet you!

Foster Friday: Need Some Joy In Your Life?

Then you need to make Linus a part of your family. Linus is a six-month old Shepherd mix puppy who was pulled from the shelter by Angel City Pit Bulls last December. Linus is the sweetest, happiest, funniest guy you'll ever meet. As I write this in my office chair, he has come in and put his paws up on my shoulders to say hi and give me a little "hello" kiss. He's medium in size, about forty-five pounds at the present time.

Linus absolutely LOVES other dogs and is willing to play with them all day long, if they agree. He would be a wonderful companion to a dog who wants a playmate. He is living in our foster care right now with two pit bulls, a cat, my two teens and me - and he gets along great with everybody!

Linus is totally housebroken to a doggie door and is becoming a very good watch-dog, alerting us when new people approach the house. Once they come inside, he just wants to play. His favorite game is called chase me around the house in circles, until I hide under the coffee table.

Linus makes our family laugh and smile with his antics but he also loves to cuddle up on the couch with you and sleep with his head in your lap. He is a well-adjusted, sweet, happy boy, and totally ready for his forever home.

Find True Love This Valentine's Day

And The Rose Goes To…

Callie and Linus. Valentine’s Day is known as being the day of love. On this romantic day new relationships are formed and old relationships are strengthened. In honor of this love-filled day we are profiling two of our most eligible bachelors and bachelorettes. Callie and Linus are both single pups that are ready to find their lifelong partners. Won’t you give your rose to one of them?

Callie is a 2 year-old gorgeous fawn pit bull who caught our eye at South LA Shelter. Callie has the warmest honey colored eyes that make everyone swoon, and a toned athletic body that attracts envious glances at every turn. Everyone knows it’s hard to “tie down” a Sagitarius, but don’t let that stop you from trying to win Callie’s heart. She is ready for a serious relationship with a committed partner and is actively seeking her perfect mate. Callie is adventurous and energetic. Although Callie is active, she is certainly up for cuddle sessions on the couch on a Saturday night. (She also gives great tongue kisses.) Put on a good movie, butter some popcorn, grab a fuzzy blanket and Callie will snuggle ‘til morning. She is quite a lover and is eager to find that special someone to call her own.

Callie has her Degree in Basic Obedience from Turnaround Training and is looking forward to continuing her education.

And now our bachelor…

Linus is approximately 6 months old and hails from the Baldwin Park Shelter. True to his Virgo nature, Linus is a natural caregiver. He is lighthearted and fun and enjoys making others smile. His whimsical energy is contagious and his goofy sense of humor can charm the paws off anyone. Young or old, cat or dog - really doesn’t matter to Linus. He loves to have fun and entices everyone around him to play. And play. And play some more. His sense of humor and sweetness can bring a smile to the most cynical of faces.

Linus enjoys spending his days in the company of other four-legged creatures. He loves life and wants to share that love with everyone around him. Linus’ good looks have made him the center of attention wherever he goes. Although Linus does revel in all of the positive attention, he is looking to connect with someone on a deeper level. He is a sensitive soul and wants nothing more than to share his days, and his heart, with a loving and loyal companion.
