Atari have re-released Transport Tycoon Deluxe, now playable on modern systems, on Steam and GOG.com. If you’ve never been able to buy a copy of the game, you can now grab a copy of it and experience the classic gameplay for yourself.

Well, it’s been 25 years since I unleashed this site on the world! Sadly I haven’t had much time to update things in the past 5 years, though there have been some new additions to the Transport Tycoon Station. But hopefully some of the content on here is still of some use or interest to folk. The web has changed beyond all recognition in the past quarter of a century, and little did I think in 1999 that the tiny site I knocked together as a 12-year-old would still be around 25 years later!

Many years ago, when I first discovered Transport Tycoon, I found a web site called “The Transport Tycoon Semi-FAQ” (which I’ve linked to from the TT Station probably since day 1). It was a very well-written, humorous site, and as a 13-year-old I pored over it and did learn some good tips from it too. Recently I happened to remember this site, but was sad to see that it’s not been online for many years. I do recall that the last update to the site relicensed its content under the GNU Free Documentation License, and so I’m pleased to announce that you can now access the Semi-FAQ once again in its complete unedited glory. As per the licence terms, you can also download a full archive of the site to modify as you wish from the Downloads page. If you’ve never checked this site out, and have got a spare hour or two, I’d recommend a browse.

jfs has recently recorded the entire Transport Tycoon and Transport Tycoon Deluxe soundtracks using an MT-32 synthesiser, which is now available in the Music section of this site, and on jfs’s own site.

I’ve made a few, admittedly quite minor, updates to the long-neglected GEM section of the web site. Nothing too exciting though, I’m afraid.

I did, some years ago, mirror various old GEM sites which are now lost from the Internet, and hope to be able to restore their content at some point via a special Archive section of the site. Quite when that will happen remains to be seen.

It’s hard for me to believe, but this web site is now 20 years old! On the 28th November 1999, I uploaded a little site I called “Owen’s Visual Basic Workshop” to the free web space my dial-up ISP offered (those were the days, eh!) – it looked something like this. It’s evolved over the years, though I’ll admit it has stayed rather static for the past 12 years. As you might have guessed, I’m quite busy with “real life” these days, so updates are few and far between, but I do try to keep the BAEC/Star Alliance calculators up-to-date when I can. I also intend to release the source for most/many of the utilities that are available on the site when I get the time. Hopefully the site will still be here in 10 years time – maybe it’ll even get a redesign by then, you never know!
