It just came up again when I was looking for something else.

I looked up his book hoping to find something. I’m glad you have those memories with him, tho. Chris and I were besties in high school, bonded immediately over Rock Lobster. The shenanigans, the fake band we made, ditching our broken science project for swiped judges badges and clipboards! Oh, the creativity that swirled in that head of his! My mom cried more when he left Beaver for Arizona than when I went to college. I didn’t have brothers, so he filled that spot for me. The comic books that he drew and the Name that Tune mix tapes that he made for me are treasures. I never saw him after 1986, but phone calls were plenty. I was deeply saddened to learn that he died, but was happy to learn of that he lived his best life and was loved by many.

Thank you for loving him, too. We’re all better people for knowing him, and this world is missing out!

I too, am nearing 60 and also tend to be a pleaser at home & work. Don’t want people upset with me or think I didn’t do enough. You’ve given me something to ponder.

Tanja:
This contest was a long time ago, in 2010. I no longer have copies of Hulk Hercules, and Cats Curious is out of print. I am sorry.

This came up when I was looking for something else. Stygian not included, but Cerebus is – so did I win, and I missed the e-mail because I lost access to my old address (long story)?

I am approaching a similar choice in getting my YA horse-setting series published. I’ll be sure to keep an eye on your blog, especially if I decide to follow the same Indie path.

My reasons for going hybrid are very similar to yours… more control over what I was doing and what happened to my end product.

May you have all the success in the world!

I honestly believe (and understand) that publishing is largely about commercial endeavor. Publishers don’t support writers whose books don’t sell well. It’s bad business. At the same time, we authors write what we want, and sometimes, as in my case, the genre isn’t necessarily what people want to buy. It is what I want to write, so I will write it. Perhaps someday my writing and publishing will find an intersection. Until then, I’ll just keep my head down and/or live in my head.

Hope your own writing is going well.
