Hello. I happen to know first hand knowledge of this and all of the dive crew were following 275.2 fully and the Dciem tables. This might have been a result of too many days in a row diving I was told by the diver who was surprised himself that he felt symptoms that evening a few hours after the incident. He was not airlifted from the site but due to where he lived he needed to be flown from his town to St Jonhs. I’m proud of the supervisor how he handled the call in the evening and to be safe arranged the flight to St Johns once the local hospital didnt know what to do. It was unfortunate this happened but was handled 100% professionally.

Airlifting on SCUBA…not a safe practice. No comms to the surface, uncontrolled ascents, an air embolism waiting to happen. Why are they allowed to do it? Lots of unreported bends speaking to divers onsite. Where are the knowledgable diving inspectors? Newfoundland has adopted the CSA diving standards, and this contravenes most of the safe diving practices.
Time for a revisit their HSE policies before there is a fatality.

Well done and well deserved Ron. My most memorable time as Chief Diver in DCIEM /CEDD was working with all of you wonderful folks in the facility from 1980 to 1984.

Dr Jan Merta was one of the finest men on this planet. No man had a more diverse background and a quench for learning and wisdom than did Jan. I met him years ago through another wonderful man John Cejka who is also gone and developed a warm and lasting friendship with Jan. If the essence or spirt of a man could help our planet and mankind the blueprint is in Jan Merta. A great man. A wonderful and loyal friend. This Earth is the better for having him on it. Lightspeed and beyond.

There is gonna be problems with this commercial scuba, restricted / unrestricted certification .. The industry doesn’t need this.. This is direct competition with commercial dive companies. I have no problem with seafood harvesters or diving for science… Other than that this is a money grab for schools and DCBC audits and certifications..this needs to stop now!! If a client requests a DCBC compliant dive operation for a job that can be done on scuba meaning a simple inspection or whatever, …I can’t dive or supervise it ( 35 years experience) because I don’t have a scuba endorsement on my ticket?? Are you kidding?? Someone had better revisit the training and experience of commercial divers as to scuba divers…and sort this out!! More on this later!! (Safety) The horn has sounded , Terry Griffin
