I was fortunate to spend a couple of days at this wonderful and vast archive of all kinds of resources in the study of Byrd’s second expedition to Antarctica in 1934. I am writing a motion picture screenplay about Byrd’s time while alone in the Antarctic winter darkness. Pictured with me is Laura Kissel, Curator..

]]>August 7-10 2022 I have spent a couple of days doing research for my project about Richard Byrd’s “Alone” at the vast and astonishingly interesting Byrd Polar and Climate Research Center Archival Program, The Ohio State University, Columbus, Ohio. Vast resources pertaining to Antarctica and Byrd, absolutely a wonderful collection for research. I searched and gathered some useful and fascinating first-person resources that will be integrated within the screenplay.
Thank you to Laura Kissel, Polar Curator, University Libraries (the greatest Curator in the world!).

This is very sad news that went under the COVID radar. Blase was a great man of action and deep thought, with the highest ability to express his moral and ethical ideas. I love him so much for what I have learned from him. I am working on a project now where I have relied on much of what Blase had to say. The project is about a priest who serves a community of indentured cotton workers in central Pakistan. My work in Pakistan is dedicated to the memory and legacy of Blase Bonpane. RIP

]]>Every SHOT and SEQUENCE in every film demonstrates either PROCESS or INTERACTION, or both at the same time.
Definitions:
Process: a series of actions or steps taken in order to achieve a particular end. For example, a person walking from point A to point B and eventually to point Z is a process. A series of shots in a sequence showing each step for making a falafel would be a process.
Interaction: an action which is influenced by other actions. Interaction is a kind of action that occurs as two or more objects have an effect upon one another. The idea of a two-way effect is essential in the concept of interaction, as opposed to a one-way causal effect.
Examples of interaction would be a conversation between two or more persons; a lion tamer interacting with the tamed beast, musicians in an ensemble interacting with each as they make music, children playing in a sandbox interacting with sand, toys, or playmates. A cat chasing a string is an example of two-way with an inanimate object. A violinist interacts with the violin. A bee interacts with the flower’s stamen while natural sunlight interacts with both.
Assignment 5A: TWO COLUMN SCRIPT
Create a two-column document with 13 rows. Indicate Picture at the top of the script in the left hand column. Narration is on the right hand side.
Use VERBS to describe each step in the process—selecting cherries, cleaning cherries, kneading the dough, and so on.
The VERB is key to each particular step in the process.
Make a list of each step with each verb (or verbs). This forms the basic script for you to follow as you use your camera to shoot the actions.
You will be writing a two column script

]]>Bloom’s taxonomy is a set of three hierarchical models used to classify educational learning objectives into levels of complexity and specificity. The three lists cover the learning objectives in cognitive, affective and sensory domains. The cognitive domain list has been the primary focus of most traditional education and is frequently used to structure curriculum learning objectives, assessments and activities.
The models were named after Benjamin Bloom, who chaired the committee of educators that devised the taxonomy. He also edited the first volume of the standard text, Taxonomy of Educational Objectives: The Classification of Educational Goals.[1][2]

“A bad poet is a born survivor†Salman Rushdie
What kind of screenplay do I want to write?
From before the moment you find the beginning of your story there is a necessary exploration of thought and new work.
Here is a discussion about the ways words are used in film storytelling.
There are basically two ways that verbal communication is heard/read in a screenplay. One is a narration or monologue (rhetoric); the other is a conversation between two or more persons (dialectic).
RHETORIC On the broadest levels, rhetoric has achieved its identity as a discipline in opposition to dialectic (Aristotle, Ramus) or to philosophy (Plato). From the time of its origin among the sophists in ancient Greece, rhetoric has embraced oppositions both philosophically and pragmatically. Protagoras (c. 485-410 BCE) asserted that “to every logos (speech or argument) another logos is opposed,†a theme continued in the Dissoi Logoi of his time, later codified as the notion of arguments in utrumque partes (on both sides). Aristotle asserted that thinking in opposites is necessary both to arrive at the true state of a matter (opposition as an epistemological heuristic) and to anticipate counterarguments. This latter, practical purpose for investigating opposing arguments has been central to rhetoric ever since sophists like Antiphon (c. 480-410 BC) provided model speeches (hisTetralogies) showing how one might argue for either the prosecution or for the defense on any given issue. SEE: Visual Rhetoric
DIALECTIC is the art of using words to discuss or investigate the truth of opinions. The challenge in screenplay writing is to achieve Dialectical thinking–referring to the ability to view issues from multiple perspectives and to arrive at the most economical and reasonable reconciliation of seemingly contradictory information and postures.
Similar:
reasoning
argumentation
contention
logic
discussion
debate
dialogue
logical argument
ratiocination
2. inquiry into metaphysical contradictions and their solutions.
Beyond verbal/oral rhetoric or dialectics, the screenplay writer must study the higher meanings of words that are spoken. How are those words being used to tell the story? You, as author or as actor, must explore the higher purpose and meaning of the character’s words and actions.
Philosophy (from Greek φιλοσοφία, philosophia, literally “love of wisdom“)[1][2][3][4] is the study of general and fundamental questions[5][6][7] about existence, knowledge, values, reason, mind, and language. Such questions are often posed as problems[8][9] to be studied or resolved. The term was probably coined by Pythagoras (c. 570 – 495 BCE). Philosophical methods include questioning, critical discussion, rational argument, and systematic presentation.[10][11] Classic philosophical questions include: Is it possible to know anything and to prove it?[12][13][14] What is most real? Philosophers also pose more practical and concrete questions such as: Is there a best way to live? Is it better to be just or unjust (if one can get away with it)?[15] Do humans have free will?[16]

The post The repression of dissent: The Occupy movement was (temporarily?) quashed by a coordinated BLOB of Police, FBI, and BANKS appeared first on E. Anthony Collins.
]]>Thanks to my friend, Myles Cummings, now in the UK, who steered me to an interesting article with very ominous overtones about the FBI coordination with banks for the crackdown upon the Occupy Movement activities.
I have written in earlier blog entries on this site about my philosophical support for the Occupy movement and its objectives, and about my distrust/disdain concerning the behavior of banks in the USA, but this article brings the conflict I feel to an entirely new level, and shows that we in the USA have reached an all time low point.
But wait, there’s more!
In doing further inquiry about the allegations and analysis set forth in the article, I found a different article on this topic by The Partnership for Civil Justice Fund
The Partnership article reinforces the Guardian article by describing a terrifying and coordinated network of para-police bodies intending to suppress Occupy dissent. It describes how the Department of Homeland Security, FBI, police, regional fusion center (a cocktail of police-governmental forces), and private-sector activity were completely merged into one another for the purpose of suppressing and eliminating dissent.
NOTE: Please re-read that sentence and ponder its significance.
An amorphous blob of police and investigative powers became a monstrous whole, one entity, one monstrous force bearing a single name, the Domestic Security Alliance Council–and this merged entity had one centrally planned, locally executed mission. Further, the Partnership article cites documents that show the cops and DHS working for and with BANKS to target, arrest, and politically disable peaceful American citizens.
For some horrible reason this coalition of police powers, investigative powers, and BANKS does not surprise me but it surely does reinforce my concerns that we have entered a new era of fascist repression and guarantees that we will face a lot of sadness in the future.
Banks are not our friend. I see banks springing up on every corner of Everywhere, USA. I am again reminded of many impoverished countries where I have lived or visited, with banks on every one of their street corners too. The more banks, the greater the poverty? It seems illogical but somehow it is becoming true. Everyone knew that already but it’s worth repeating. But when Banks have the forces of a police state working for them, under their direction in suppressing dissent, then WOW do we have a problem! That’s not a question, it’s a statement.
Aside from that, Happy New Year!
