The holiday season in Old Sacramento Waterfront has a magical way of making you want to stay awhile. The streets sparkle with festive decorations, the holiday tree on Front Street sets the scene, and every shop has something special waiting to be discovered. This year, picture yourself browsing for gifts and enjoying festive activities while collecting stamps on your Small Business Spree Bingo card.

Now through December 31, turn seasonal shopping into a bingo game as you explore local businesses and holiday events. You can earn prizes while supporting the small businesses that make Old Sacramento Waterfront so special.

What You Can Win
Here’s the best part, every valid bingo entry earns a guaranteed prize!

Prizes include:

  • A $100 parking voucher
  • A family four-pack of Downtown Sac Ice Rink tickets
  • Gift cards to participating locations
  • A museum membership
  • The opportunity to guest star as Mama or Papa in Theatre of Lights during December
  • Old Sacramento Waterfront and Yelp swag

Winners will be selected at random and notified after the contest ends.

How to Play Small Business Spree Bingo
Getting started is easy. Grab a bingo card, explore Old Sacramento Waterfront, and start checking off your holiday activities. You can complete the squares at your own pace throughout the season.

Get started! You can collect stamps now until December 31

1. Pick Up Your Bingo Card
Get your Small Business Spree Bingo card at participating businesses, during Holidays on K Street, or at Old Sacramento Waterfront Visitors Center.

Find Business Participants HERE

Sacramento Visitors Center: 1000 Second Street, Old Sacramento, CA 95814

Holidays on K Street: Saturdays and Sundays through November 28 – December 20 | 12 PM–4:40 PM.

What is Holiday on K Street? A festive car-free corridor where you can roam K Street freely with open seating, lawn games, pop-up vendors, and holiday events.

2. Turn Holiday Shopping and Activities into a Game of Bingo
Take a stroll through Old Sacramento Waterfront and visit the neighborhood’s local businesses. Each square features a holiday-themed activity to complete, giving you a reason to explore unique finds, try something new, or find a gift for someone on your list.

Not every activity requires a purchase! While some squares involve shopping or spending a certain amount, others focus on holiday experiences and activities. When you complete activities listed on your bingo card, take a photo to ensure that you receive a stamp.

3. Collect Stamps to Win Prizes
Once you complete an activity at a participating business, ask a store team member to stamp the corresponding square on your card. Keep your card handy as you shop to receive stamps. You can complete the squares at your own pace throughout the season.

Need to verify a photo activity to receive a stamp? You can show photos of your completed activities to staff at Holidays on K or the Visitors Center on weekends.

4. Get a Bingo!
This game lasts all season long. You can submit your bingo card for prizes up to four times until Dec 31. Small Business Spree Bingo offers several ways to complete a bingo:

  • Four in a row: Complete four consecutive squares horizontally, vertically, or diagonally.
  • The X: Complete both diagonal lines across the center of your card.
  • Blackout: Complete every square on your card.
  • Railroad Tracks: Complete the border squares all the way around your card.

Every completed bingo gives you another opportunity to enter, up to four entries per person. Keep playing, collect those stamps, and win! Every entry you submit, gets you a guaranteed prize.

5. How Do You Enter to Win?
Once you complete a bingo, take a photo of your finished card and email it to info@oldsacramento.com.

Here are the important details to keep in mind:
– Entry deadline: December 31, 2026.
– Entry limit: Up to four entries per person, with one entry for each completed bingo.
– How to submit: Email a photo of your stamped bingo card to info@oldsacramento.com.
– Who can play: Anyone can participate, including visitors from outside Sacramento.

Grab your friends and family to play Small Business Spree Bingo and make the Holiday season one to remember!

Supporting Local Businesses Comes with Rewards

Fall nights are getting cooler, making it the perfect excuse to dress up, head downtown, and try something different for date night. Think Broadway shows, live music in a historic cathedral, or an exhibition that gives you something new to talk about over drinks afterward. Downtown Sacramento has plenty of ways to make a night out feel different from the usual dinner and a movie. Here are three date night ideas to add to your fall plans.

Water for Elephants at Broadway Sacramento

October 13–18 | SAFE Credit Union Performing Arts Center

If you and your partner love watching acrobatics, romance, and drama, Water for Elephants deserves a spot on your date night calendar. The Broadway musical tells a story that moves between the past and present, following a man who joins a traveling circus and finds himself caught up in a world of adventure and an unexpected love connection.

Grab pre-show drinks nearby at Aiona or Merchant25, then pick up a gourmet cheese box from the SAFE Credit Union Performing Arts Center concession bar before settling into your seats.

Can’t make the Water for Elephants showing? Check out the full Broadway Sacramento lineup here.

LUMINISCENCE and Candlelight Concerts

Looking for an immersive experience to pair with dinner? LUMINISCENCE transforms the historic Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament with colorful video playing along the walls and music that fills the space. You can choose a performance with a live orchestra, live choir, or recorded music, and see one of Sacramento’s oldest cathedrals in a whole new light.

The Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament is right along K Street making your dinner options top-tier. Here are a few dining options just a short stroll away: Ella Dining Room & Bar for an upscale experience, Mexican food from Mayahuel to keep the party going, or Brasserie Du Monde for a French ambiance.

LUMINISCENCE wraps up in November, but you can keep the date nights coming with Fever’s year-round experiences. Check out the Candlelight Concert series inside the historic California State Railroad Museum at the Old Sacramento Waterfront, along with other upcoming experiences here.

BODIES: The Science Within

October 2–November 29, 2026 | Sacramento Memorial Auditorium

For the couple who loves a random fun fact or always ends up down a science rabbit hole, BODIES: The Science Within is worth adding to your date night list. The exhibition gives you an up-close look at the human body and plenty to discover along the way. I love a date that lets you learn something new together and gives you something to talk about long after you leave.

Make a full night of it with drinks and bites nearby at Casa Lola or Cafeteria 15L before heading to the exhibition.

Save these ideas for your next date night in downtown Sacramento. Catch a show, discover something new together, or find a new favorite spot for dinner and drinks. There’s always a new experience worth making plans for in the heart of Sacramento.

Trees are starting to change colors, and the giant pumpkin has officially arrived at K and Front Street at the Old Sacramento Waterfront. All signs point to fall!

The spooky season is officially making its way through the historic district, and honestly, it’s one of the best times to stroll through the neighborhood and romanticize the “ber” months like you’re in an early 2000s sitcom. Take in the historic buildings and cobblestone streets, spot the scarecrows, grab a fall treat, and catch a classic movie at Movies Under the Stars.

There’s plenty to see and do, making Old Sacramento Waterfront an easy spot to spend a fall day.

Start making your seasonal to-do’s with a list of things to do below:

Scarecrow Contest

This fall, 23 creative and downright spooky scarecrows will pop up around the historic district as local businesses compete to see who can bring the best one to life. Keep an eye out as you explore and see which one catches your attention. Voting goes live Friday, September 11. Vote for your favorites here.

Movies Under the Stars

Catch Halloween-themed movies outside in Old Sacramento State Historic Park every Thursday and Friday night in October. Put on your headphones, grab popcorn or pizza from our on-site vendors, and settle in for a movie night under the stars. Grab your movie tickets here.

Plus, our costume contest returns October 29 and 30. Arrive in your favorite and most creative costume between 6–6:50 PM. The winners will be announced before the movie starts.

October 29: Win four tickets to The Polar Express
October 30: Win four skate passes to the Downtown Sacramento Ice Rink

Frights & Flights

Keep the Halloween fun going with a stop at one of Old Sacramento’s bars for a themed flight. Participating spots will serve up Halloween-inspired drinks throughout October, and you don’t need a Movies Under the Stars ticket to join in. If you’re 21+ rally up your friends for a spooky good night and visit the spots below.

Frights & Flights locations: Last Stop Saloon, Honey and the Trap, and O’Malley’s Pub

Costume Swap & Photoshoot

Bring your old costume and make a night of it at Glow Studio on Friday, October 16, from 5–8 PM. Swap costumes, step in front of a professional photographer, and grab a few festive photos while you’re there.

Hayrides by Top Hand Ranch

Hop on a hayride and cruise around the Old Sacramento starting around 5 PM. Catch your ride at Waterfront Park on Front Street, then sit back and take in the neighborhood as you go.

Thursdays: October 1, 8, 15, 22 & 29
Fridays: October 9 & 30

Third Thursday

Get creative at Third Thursday on October 15 from 4–8 PM with live demos, workshops, and after-hours shopping around the neighborhood. Grab a coffee from Blueprint Coffee and learn how to make your own, create a bag charm, learn from local artists, or settle in for a wine flight. There’s always something new to discover.

Ghost Tours

Want a little history with your Halloween plans? Join the Sacramento History Museum for its annual Ghost Tours and hear some of the strange, eerie, and downright bizarre stories from Sacramento’s past. Get tickets here.

Fridays: October 16, 23 & 30
Saturdays: October 17 & 24

Halloween Murder Mystery Dinner

Grab dinner and see if you can solve the mystery aboard the Delta King. The Halloween-themed evening includes a multi-course dinner, a live whodunit performance, interactive comedy, and plenty of twists. Stick around after the show for a Halloween party.

Saturday, October 31 at 6PM | Grab your dinner ticket here.

September in downtown Sacramento is one of my favorite times of year. The sun is still hanging around past 7:30 PM, the days are warm, and the evenings are cool giving us a glimpse of fall, and it’s the perfect excuse to stay out a little longer with your friends.

If you’re like me and always looking for a good excuse to eat and drink your way through downtown, Visit Sacramento has something grand coming up. New this year, bringing together two of their iconic culinary events, Legends of Wine and The Grand Tasting, is their all-new signature experience: The California Grand Tasting on Friday, September 11 in downtown.

Get a Taste of California

The California Grand Tasting is bringing together some of the best flavors of California for one evening. More than 30 restaurants will be serving up culinary creations from some of the region’s top chefs and culinary talent alongside 25–30 regional wineries and craft beverage producers, with live entertainment happening throughout the event.

The Perfect Pairing

Visit Sacramento’s new event brings together the best parts of two former signature events. The Grand Tasting gave everyone a chance to experience locally sourced dishes crafted by some of the region’s top chefs featured at the popular Tower Bridge Dinner. Legends of Wine, on the other hand, brought wines from across California right to your fingertips.

Now, those two experiences are coming together under one roof. The result is a night that gives foodies plenty to explore while wine lovers get to sip their way through California. Basically, a foodie’s dream paired with a wine connoisseur’s happy place.

When: Friday, September 11, 2026 | 6 – 9 PM
Where: Ballroom A at the SAFE Credit Union Convention Center. Nearest entry is located at the West Lobby (13th and K Streets) and escalators or elevators lead to the Ballroom Level.

How to Get Around: Parking is available at several garages and lots within walking distance of the SAFE Credit Union Convention Center. Visit SacPark.org to reserve parking ahead of time. Don’t want to drive? Here are the best alternative ways to get around in downtown.

Some days you leave work with dinner already planned. Other days, you’re hungry and have no idea what you’re eating. On those days, skip the drive-thru and grab takeout from one of downtown’s Sacramento’s local restaurants instead. There’s plenty of good food spots just a few minutes from the office. Who knows, you might even find a new favorite to add to your takeout rotation.

Bangkok@12 Thai

The portions here are generous enough to fill you up and still leave you with lunch for the next day. Sounds like a win-win to me. You can’t go wrong with the chicken pad thai, and speaking from experience, it holds up pretty well after a night in the fridge.

House Kitchen & Bar

Takeout doesn’t always have to mean grabbing something quick and calling it dinner. Treat yourself to a good meal from House. I’d go with the Sweet Corn Tamale Cakes and Mary’s Chicken Marsala.

Chef Burma

After a long day, sometimes you just want a homemade meal that comes in a big portion. Chef Burma’s Burmese dishes are packed with flavor and made for sharing, but I wouldn’t blame you for keeping the combination fried rice and black pepper lamb all to yourself.

Sushi Paradise

A couple of fresh sushi rolls, a good movie, and dinner at home? I’m sold. If you want more than sushi, their bento boxes come with a little bit of everything, so you can skip the decision-making and get the full meal.

Vegan Deadly Sins

Think of your classic Chinese takeout combo, but with a vegan twist. Vegan Deadly Sins has generous portions and plenty of options, making it an especially good pick when you’re ordering for a few people at home.

Cariño

You can’t go wrong with a Mexican takeout night. Grab a grande burrito and save half for tomorrow’s lunch. Or mix it up with tacos, flautas, and a cold horchata. The “hardest” part about ordering from Cariño is the self-control to not order the whole menu.

Citizen Capitol Craft House

You can’t finish an after-work takeout list without some good pub food. Grab a Citizen smash burger, bacon and Brussels sprouts, and their house fries, then head home and settle in. This is the kind of dinner that has you thinking about it before you’ve even left work.

Your dinner plans are already set up for you downtown

If you’re already downtown for work, take advantage of the food options right outside the office. Skip the drive-thru, grab something from a local spot you’ve been wanting to try, and end the night glad you did.

Work on either O or N street near the California Department of Veterans Affairs, California Department of Transportation, California State Clearinghouse, Capitol Annex Swing Space, or the Employment Development Department?

You’re surrounded by great coffee and lunch spots that make stepping away from your desk easy. Grab a quick bite between meetings or take a little more time to enjoy lunch, all without going too far from the office.

Lunch

Bistro Bravado
Grab the Chicken BLT Sandwich for lunch and take advantage of their shared patio seating. You’ll get one of downtown’s best views of the State Capitol’s North Wing while you eat.

Cafe Connection
If you want homemade Caribbean cuisine, Cafe Connection will get you right. If you’re craving something sweet after lunch, Goodie Tuchews is right next door.

Kindred Seoul
If you’re craving Korean food, Kindred Seoul is an easy lunch pick. Their homestyle Korean-inspired bowls are filling without feeling like you need an afternoon nap.

Lara Cafeteria
The portions are generous without breaking the bank, and the weekly specials are worth checking out. You get a good amount of food for the price, and the flavors always hit the spot.

Panzón Mexican Grill
A quick stop for classic Mexican dishes. Think Chipotle, but locally owned. They also have outdoor tables, which makes it easy to spend your lunch outside.

Prelude Kitchen & Bar
Save Prelude for a day when you have a little more time. It’s an elevated lunch experience and a nice option for a lunch meeting or to enjoy your break. If you can, ask to sit on the patio.

Coffee

Barrio Downtown
Barrio is a good spot when you want to switch up your usual coffee run. They have reasonably priced handcrafted drinks and friendly staff that always make it a nice stop.

Chocolate Fish Coffee Roasters
Easy to keep going back to for their coffee blends and seasonal specials. They also have a good pastry selection. I usually go for the cheddar biscuit when I’m craving something savory for breakfast.

The State Grind
Need a midday coffee recharge? Stop by for a coffee or espresso, and grab a snack if your afternoon is starting to drag.

Starbucks (10th & L Street)
When you need your usual Starbucks order, this location is just a few steps away. Place a mobile order if you’re on a time crunch and need to be in and out.

Save this for your next lunch or coffee break

Breaking up the workday can be as simple as trying somewhere new. Save this list, share it with a coworker, and keep it handy the next time you’re deciding where to grab coffee or lunch.
