1. Personally prepare to receive or reflect on the proclaimed Word. Consider reading through the passage that will be preached (or taught at Verse By Verse) ahead of the time it will be exposited. What elements of the passage stand out? What meaning does it have? What is it calling God’s people to? You can also consider going back to a passage that was just explained the week following to reflect on the recent exhortations that were given.
2. Pray for the teachers and preachers. It is good not only to see what texts are upcoming, but also plan to pray for those who will be preaching and teaching. It is a privilege to receive God’s revelation, and it is a privilege to be built up through the proclamation of his Word. These cards may seem routine and mundane, but even in their very “normal” character they remind us of a profound truth: that God does supernatural things through very ordinary, regular, ongoing means, namely the regular preaching and teaching of God’s Word. This is the food and sustenance of the church, and it is good for his people to prepare to receive it.

Greg Gilbert is the senior pastor of Third Avenue Baptist Church in Louisville, Kentucky. He is married to Moriah, and has three kids: Justin, Jack, and Juliet. And he is the author of various books such as: What Is the Gospel?, Assured: Discover Grace, Let Go of Guilt, and Rest in Your Salvation, and the commentary in the ESV Story of Redemption Bible. On Sunday August 30, 2026 at 5 PM, Dr. Mike Emlet will give a lecture “Descriptions and Prescriptions: A Biblical Perspective On Psychiatric Diagnoses And Medications.” Mike is a faculty member and counselor at CCEF, where he has served since 2001. He holds a doctor of medicine from the University of Pennsylvania and a master of divinity from Westminster Theological Seminary. Prior to joining CCEF, Mike worked as a family physician for eleven years. He has particular interests in working with ministry leaders and with those who struggle with anxiety, depression, and OCD. He has published numerous books, including CrossTalk (New Growth Press, 2009), Descriptions and Prescriptions (New Growth Press, 2017), and Saints, Sufferers, and Sinners (New Growth Press, 2021).

Following the theme of this gospel mystery set forth in Ephesians, this year’s VBS will consider various Old Testament passages that point us forward to the promised unveiling of this gospel. In other words, we will consider not only how God reveals his redemption plan through his Son Jesus but also how Jesus creates his people, the church, a people from every tribe, tongue, people, and language. In addition, students will sing, play games, eat snacks, and memorize Scripture together.

Alex graduated from Western Kentucky University in 2011 with a degree in Journalism and Creative Writing. He then moved back to his hometown of Louisville, Kentucky to begin classes at Southern Seminary. In the spring of 2013, he served as a pastoral intern at Capitol Hill Baptist Church. He has worked as the editorial manager for 9Marks since 2014, and at Third Avenue Baptist Church since 2019. He lives with his wife Melanie and his three children—Elliot, John, and Zoë—in Louisville, Kentucky. He has written a few books including titles such as Nomad: A Short Story Of Our Long Journey Home and From Eden To Egypt: A Guided Tour Of Genesis.

On Sunday, May 31, 2026, at 5 PM, Dr. Gregory K. Beale, will give the talk, “The Temple And The Church’s Mission: A Biblical Theology Of The Dwelling  Place Of God” at Sunday Night Theology (SNT). This SNT lecture will demonstrate the Bible’s unified story of God dwelling with man from Eden, to the Tabernacle, Temple, Christ, Church, and the New Creation. Following the lecture, there will be a brief Q&A. This event is free and open to all. Childcare is provided.

Additionally, Dr. Beale will preach from Isaiah 6:1-13 during CCWC’s 10 AM service of corporate worship.

Dr. Gregory K. Beale (PhD, Cambridge) is a professor of New Testament at Reformed Theological Seminary in Dallas, Texas. He has been married to Dorinda for 44 years. He has three children (Stephen, Nancy, and Hannah). Dr. Beale’s academic interests include the New Testament’s use of the Old Testament, the book of Revelation, the biblical-theological theme of temple as the dwelling place of God, and the topic of inerrancy, among others.

For those who are new to Dr. Beale’s writing and teaching on these interests, he recommends several resources as places to start. On the New Testament’s use of the Old Testament, he would suggest starting with reading A New Testament Biblical Theology: The Unfolding of the Old Testament in the New. On Revelation, he would recommend his commentary Book of Revelation (New International Greek Text Commentary) or the abridged Revelation: A Shorter Commentary. On the biblical-theological use of temple, consider The Temple and the Church’s Mission: A Biblical Theology of the Dwelling Place of God. On inerrancy, he would suggest starting with The Right Doctrine from the Wrong Text?, or his article “Can the Bible be Completely Inspired by God and Yet Still Contain Errors?”.

On Sunday, April 26, 2026, at 5 PM, Dr. Michael Allen, will give the talk, “Grounded In Heaven: The Beatific Vision” at Sunday Night Theology. This SNT lecture will argue that the ultimate end of creation and redemption is God and creatures blessed sight of God (the beatific vision). Following the lecture, there will be a brief Q&A. This event is free and open to all. Childcare is provided.

Additionally, Dr. Allen will preach from Titus 1:10-16 during CCWC’s 10 AM service of corporate worship.

Dr. Michael Allen serves as the Professor of Systematic Theology at Reformed Theological Seminary in Orlando, FL. He is also a teaching elder in the Presbyterian Church in America and serves as Theologian-in-Residence at NewCity Orlando PCA. He has written many books including Grounded In Heaven: Recentering Christian Hope And Life In God (Grand Rapids: Eerdmans, 2018), Sanctification (New Studies in Dogmatics; Grand Rapids: Zondervan Academic, 2017), and Justification And The Gospel: Understanding The Contexts And Controversies (Grand Rapids: Baker Academic, 2013). Most importantly, Dr. Allen is married to his wife Emily, and they have two sons, Jackson and Will. In his free time, he enjoys playing and watching basketball, running, reading, and traveling.
