Growing up, my family of 5 traveled quite frequently, and as the oldest, I got used to sleeping on the floor, in an armchair, or even in a bathtub or two (I know!) While those rooms said they slept five, the fifth sleeping space seemed to be nonexistent.

When we started traveling to Disney more frequently, my family discovered which DVC Resorts were best for families of 5. Not only did these rooms offer me an actual bed, but they also had more space than the standard hotel room we were used to. That’s why I thought I would share my list of the Best DVC Resorts for families of 5 with you.

The Best DVC Resorts for families of 5 are:

1. Disney’s BoardWalk Villas

Disney’s BoardWalk is such an iconic spot in Walt Disney World! Featuring a walking path to both EPCOT and Hollywood Studios, the Friendship boats, and being just steps away from the Skyliner, this resort offers transportation options galore!

At Disney’s BoardWalk Villas, families of 5 can fit in a Studio! The room layout includes a queen-sized bed, a pull-down Murphy bed, and a pull-down bunk-size bed under the TV! It also features a kitchenette for quick breakfasts or snacks, so you can spend less on food and more on souvenirs! This is a great, cost-effective option for families of 5 who want to stay right near the action!

Looking for more space than a studio? The BoardWalk does offer One Bedroom Villas that accommodate five guests, but they only have sleeping space for four people. That means that if you’re looking to stay in a bigger room, with in-suite laundry and a full kitchen to cook meals, you will need to bring supplies for an extra sleeping space for the 5th guest (Disney doesn’t offer rollaway beds or cots), or go to three to a bed (which isn’t the worst thing in the world in the King-sized bed).

2. Disney’s Riviera Resort

Disney’s Riviera Resort is one of the newer DVC Resorts at WDW, and it is certainly not to be missed. This resort is a Skyliner stop, so getting to EPCOT and Hollywood Studios is not only quick but also super fun!

Deluxe Studios at Riviera also sleep 5 guests! The room layout is the same as the Studios at the BoardWalk, with two beds, a pull-down bunk, and a kitchenette.

What differs at this resort, however, is that the One Bedroom Villas do offer sleeping space for five guests! So, if you’re looking to cook meals in your room, or get all your laundry done the night before you head home (an absolute game-changer), the One Bedroom might be better for you! In-suite laundry, a full-sized kitchen, and a dining room are especially helpful during a longer trip, since the rooms provide all the pots and pans for cooking a nice meal (or a late-night box of macaroni and cheese to enjoy on the balcony).

3. Boulder Ridge Villas at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge

Is your family of five wilderness lovers, but also want to be close to the action? Then the Boulder Ridge Villas at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge is the place for you! It gives you the best of both worlds with deluxe wilderness vibes and boat transportation to Magic Kingdom!

This is another resort that offers sleeping space for five in the Studio, the most economical room size for travelers! The under-TV bunk in this room offers the cutest artwork of Chip ‘n Dale napping, plus it boasts a kitchenette as well!

Similar to the BoardWalk, a One Bedroom at Boulder Ridge offers more space and can technically accommodate 5 guests, but it only has sleeping space for 4. You’d need to sort out your sleeping arrangements for the 5th guest as it works best for your family.

Sometimes it feels like families of 5 have to upgrade to make sure everyone feels included, but that is not true with DVC point rental. These resorts (and a few more) offer sleeping space for 5 guests in the Studio, making them a little more economical for families! This means that you can splurge more on tasty treats, souvenirs, or those ever-coveted Lightning Lanes!

So, you’re interested in sailing to Alaska?

Honestly, do it. Don’t wait, don’t procrastinate, don’t push it back another year. This is a destination I think everyone should see firsthand! I mean, I am aiming to show you some gorgeous photos through the course of this blog to help demonstrate why I fell in love with Alaska on my recent Disney Cruise Line sailing, but genuinely, photos and descriptions just don’t do it justice. You’ve got to experience it for yourself! It is truly awe-inspiring.

That said, I understand that Alaska can seem a little daunting. For many of us, it is a lengthier journey than we’re used to when going to Disney’s American theme parks, has weather forecasts that can be challenging to predict and/or pack for, and offers activities and excursions far different from what you’d see on typical Caribbean cruises. So, today, I’d love to answer five common questions to help you start planning your dream Alaskan cruise adventure!

Question #1: Is it cold?

The short answer here is: sometimes! My teammate and I sailed in late June and, overall, had unusually sunny weather, which really helped us temperature-wise in most of our ports. Multiple locals told us how lucky we were to have the weather we experienced and shared that some places in Alaska see an average of 300 days of rain a year! That said, it was definitely much cooler than late June is here in Southern Ontario, and some days were chillier than others. Our day in Icy Strait Point was the only day we had cloudy skies and drizzle, so it was a day of hoodies and jackets. The pools onboard were occasionally open depending on the weather; however, the water slides were closed due to wind. Hot tubs were pretty much always full when open!

The coldest temperatures we experienced by far, however, were during glacier viewing! Unsurprisingly, the closer you get to a giant sheet of ice, the colder it gets! It was also incredibly windy on the upper decks as we watched the Disney Magic sail up Endicott Arm towards Dawe’s Glacier, which made things feel even colder. We were bundled up under MANY layers that day!

Alaskan weather can change really quickly, not just from rain to sun, but also from cool to warm and back again, so you’ll want to be prepared for a little bit of everything! Which brings me to the next question…

Question #2: What should I pack?

Scott Foster, the Naturalist onboard our sailing, suggested thinking of an onion when preparing your clothing selections for Alaska. Dressing in layers is KEY!

For example, speaking of our glacier viewing day, it was bright and sunny throughout the morning and afternoon, so we were in our blue, short sleeved DVCR polos and popped hoodies on and off depending on the wind or the amount of direct sunlight we were in. Later in the day, as we got closer to the glacier, the layers intensified! The sun was still bright and shiny in the sky, however, the wind picked up and the temperatures dropped, so for outdoor glacier viewing on the upper decks, I wore full length jeans, 2 pairs of socks, a tank top layered under a short-sleeved shirt with a cardigan, a hoodie over that, a heavy fleece jacket over that, and to top it all off, my windproof/waterproof jacket. When we got closest to the glacier, we also put on hats and mittens!

[As you can see in the photo above, the wind is still trying desperately to pull my jacket hood back even though I have it tied as tightly as possible!]

Compare that to the next day when we visited Skagway, it was completely different. We started the day prepped for an early hike in full-length pants, hoodies, and jackets. By late morning, hoodies and jacket layers were shed, and we spent the rest of the day in short sleeves. I even went back to the ship mid-afternoon to switch into cropped pants and sandals while we explored the town.

If you can, bring lots of options in different lengths and weights, so you’re prepared for all kinds of weather. I’d also say the VIP of my luggage was my lightweight waterproof-windproof jacket (a must-have for any colder cruise I have taken!) It protected me from the elements and was easy to fold down and pop into my backpack while exploring.

Comfortable, sturdy shoes will be another key piece to pack, especially if they are waterproof or water-resistant (I used a waterproofing spray on my sneakers before leaving home which worked perfectly!) At Icy Strait Point, we had some drizzle and rain and went kayaking, so having dry, warm feet kept us comfortable as we soaked up the incredible scenery (instead of water) and enjoyed our activities. We weren’t fussing over damp toes or squeaky shoes and could focus on the fun adventure ahead!

Other non-clothing items I’d highly recommend packing:

• Reusable water bottle (for use both onboard and while doing active excursions such as hiking!)
• Binoculars (so you can spot wildlife and the gorgeous landscapes in the distance!)
• Power bank battery chargers (trust me, you’ll take endless photos and videos as well as check the Navigator app a lot, so your phone will go through battery QUICKLY!)

Question #3: What were excursions like?

In a word: awesome! If you’ve seen past blogs and posts of mine, you’ll know I’m not typically the first girl to venture out into the wilderness. Don’t get me wrong, I love the gorgeous natural scenery as much as the next gal, but in my everyday life, you’re FAR more likely to see me at the mall than you are on a hiking trail. Let me tell you, though, Alaska brought out a different side of me! I hiked, I kayaked for the first time, I tried axe-throwing…I was a whole different person, and I LOVED IT ALL! It is the perfect place to try something new, get out of your comfort zone, and fully lean into the epic Alaskan vibes.

Now, I don’t do it often, but I do enjoy hiking. I will say, however, to be diligent in determining whether the activity levels of different Alaskan hiking excursions align with your personal comfort levels. In Skagway, my teammate and I were scheduled for an “Adventure Hike” excursion…which I had to bail out of about 15 minutes in. Our guide told us honestly before we began that it would be more strenuous than described on the cruise line’s website, and while I’m always willing to give things a shot, I quickly discovered that it was well beyond my skill and comfort level. I made the choice to cut my experience short, and the guides were super understanding and helpful in getting me back down the mountainside safely (though my teammate crushed the whole thing successfully!) The next day, when I was set for another hike in Icy Strait Point, I knew to ask the guide additional questions about the elevation and route before we got going to ensure I’d have a more successful experience (which I did!)

The excursion guides loved being part of my new experiences and were friendly, warm, and happy to help with any questions I had. Kayaking for the very first time out on the ocean, scoping the shore for bears and bald eagles, was an experience I’ll never forget. I felt immense pride reaching the top of the mountain while hiking! I might not have been great at it, but I loved axe-throwing and cheering at the famous lumberjack show in Ketchikan!

That is just a few of the activities we enjoyed, too! We also lunched at locally run restaurants, browsed in charming boutiques full of locally made trinkets and art, went for a train ride through the Yukon Pass, saw sled dog puppies, and took in incredible totem pole creations. There are TONS of excursions and activities to choose from, and there’s something for everyone!

Question #4: Any seasickness issues?

This will vary from person to person. For me, even though I experience motion sickness on long car rides and some theme park rides, I have never had an issue with seasickness on a cruise, including through Alaska. I will say, however, that due to the higher winds and propulsion to take us north quickly, this sailing was definitely the one where I have felt the most motion onboard. I spoke to others who did need some seasickness remedies, so if you have concerns, I’d definitely suggest bringing along the remedy you’re most comfortable with (e.g., wristbands, medications, ginger-based options, etc.).

One thing that was unique for me in Alaska, compared to other destinations I’ve sailed to, that might also help with hesitations about being out on the ocean or experiencing motion sickness, was being able to see land in the distance from the ship almost the entire time. 

My teammate was feeling a little off from the rocking of the ship one night while we were in the theater, so when the show finished, we popped outside onto the walking path around Deck 4. She felt better within a few minutes of getting some fresh air and seeing the mountainous landscape we were sailing past. Is it a psychological thing? Maybe! But seeing land on the horizon worked like a charm for her!

Question #5: Is it a good option for families and those traveling with children?

This is another spot where the answer will vary, as needs and preferences change from family to family. I am a childless millennial myself; however, I wouldn’t hesitate to bring kids along if I had them!

One thing to keep in mind is that there were fewer family-focused excursions or those geared toward really little children, simply because of the adventurous nature of traditional Alaskan activities, but there was still plenty for school-age and older kids to enjoy, and there were TONS of kids on our sailing, obviously having a blast! For example, the Great Alaskan Lumberjack Show in Ketchikan was FULL of enthusiastic kids and designed for families to enjoy together (warning, though: hearing protection might be something to consider for little ones, as it gets LOUD in there!). The gondola rides at Icy Strait Point would also be great for families to enjoy together (very similar to the Disney Skyliner at Walt Disney World), and the campfires at the top were perfect for a family s’mores snack moment with a gorgeous view!

The kids’ clubs on the ship were busy and lively, the pools were packed with children when open, and the little ones onboard also enjoyed the stage shows, characters, and other entertainment, like family game shows and karaoke. The Frozen-themed Deck Party was also a huge hit for the kiddos on our cruise, and the show is adorable!

Additionally, it was really cool to see kids spotting wildlife (we saw whales, seals, otters, deer, and many more!), asking questions about local history and being awestruck by Alaska’s natural beauty. I can only imagine the amazing core memories created by all of the families that we sailed with! 

I could probably list a zillion FAQs for Alaskan cruises, but we’ll start with these 5 for today before I ramble uncontrollably about how much I learned and loved on my sailing! If you love adventure, incredible landscapes, wildlife spotting, and of course, spending time enjoying the great outdoors and all the activities that it offers, it’s well worth the planning, saving, and travel time to make your dream cruise to Alaska a reality!

Disney’s Beach Club Villas has been my favorite resort since I was a child. I first visited when I was 10, instantly fell in love, and as I approach my 45th birthday, I can confirm that it solidly remains my top pick even 35 years later!

That said, I know I am not the only one who enjoys a long-time love affair with the Beach Club! There is SO MUCH to love about this amazing resort, and as a result, it has become one of the most popular resort picks! Because of its popularity, this resort tends to book up quickly, so today, let’s talk about the best strategies for booking Beach Club for your next DVC adventure!

While “never” is a strong word, I’ll be honest, Beach Club isn’t a Disney resort that you’re typically going to be able to book successfully at the last minute. If this is your dream resort, you’ll want to start planning your trip well in advance!

DVC allows bookings up to 11 months in advance, and as a general tip, I’ll usually suggest trying to book ANY DVC resort as close to that window as you can for the best chance at availability in the DVC inventory. In fact, did you know that our team can accept request forms up to 12 months in advance of your check-in date? That way, we have everything ready to go as soon as your 11-month window opens!

Of course, some DVC resorts and room types sell out faster than others, and Beach Club is often one of them. It’s important to remember that the DVC inventory is much smaller than Disney’s Central Reservations, and with a smaller pool of rooms to book, popular locations, especially smaller ones with fewer rooms to go around, often book up more swiftly than you might think!

Studios are by far the most in-demand room size, followed by Two Bedrooms, with One Bedroom Villas typically holding availability the longest. Disney’s Beach Club Villas doesn’t offer the Grand Villa room size, so that’s also something to keep in mind if you’re traveling with a larger group!

For example, if you were looking to stay in a Studio at Disney’s Beach Club Villas in July next year, I would absolutely suggest trying to book at least 9-11 months in advance. If you were looking for dates around the 4th of July in particular, I would 100% suggest sending in your request to us as early as possible! Similarly, if you were looking for a future stay in a Two Bedroom Villa at Beach Club with December dates, I’d still suggest trying to book at least 9 or 10 months ahead of your desired trip dates.

The season you’re looking to travel in can be a factor as well. It’s well known that December and similar holiday periods are popular times to book, along with EPCOT festival season (trust me, it doesn’t get better than staying at Beach Club during Food & Wine!) and the summer months when everyone wants to splash around Stormalong Bay to cool off! 

Disney doesn’t really have an “off season” these days, so while dates in early February or November might not book up quite so quickly traditionally, I’d still try to book at least 7-11 months in advance for the best chance at a reservation.

We understand that planning your trip a year out isn’t always possible, however. We work from the same inventory of rooms as all DVC owners, so we can’t make guarantees or hold rooms, but we DO offer an awesome option on our website called “Confirmed Reservations” that I love to recommend, especially if you’re looking for travel dates that are approaching more quickly! It can be a great way to pick up a reservation that is otherwise sold out, so if you’re making your plans a bit later than you might have ideally, you can search for any potential Beach Club Confirmed Reservations right on our website, and we never know when a new listing might pop up!

Disney’s Beach Club Villas is an amazing resort with cute and cozy rooms, an INCREDIBLE Feature Pool, perhaps THE best location on property (walking distance to 2 parks!), and great dining options! If you get the chance, I highly recommend a stay here, and our team looks forward to helping you make those plans!

In 2025 I wrote a blog about my unfiltered ranking of each DVC resort. Now, at the time, I had visited Walt Disney World twice and thought I had a pretty solid idea of which resorts I liked most. Since then, I have been back twice more, and my opinion of my favorite resorts has changed once again!

I think this is bound to happen after each visit, but it’s always so much fun to discuss and reflect on what makes all these amazing resorts so great! As a reminder, this is just for fun and is a ranking of resorts I personally enjoy slightly less than others, to resorts I am obsessed with. My list might look different than yours, and that’s ok, but here is my updated, unfiltered ranking of every DVC resort at Walt Disney World!

#11: Old Key West (Previously # 10).

So, Old Key West has dropped one space to the bottom of my list. I know this is the OG DVC resort, and is a fan-favorite among many, but I just think there are so many other DVC resorts that are better. Once again, this ranking is just my personal opinion, and Old Key West is still a great resort; it’s just not the one I would pick first.

Now, I do think this resort is great in terms of immersion, because it really does feel like you’re vacationing in Key West, Florida. It’s also a great resort for cost-effectiveness and for longer stays. However, that’s really all it’s got going for it in my opinion. I think the rooms desperately need a refresh, and maybe once this happens, I’ll change my mind! 

Also, the fact that Hospitality House is at the front of the resort, and that some Villas will be located quite far from all the amenities there, doesn’t really appeal to me. I love convenience and accessibility when picking DVC resorts, so this one unfortunately sits at the bottom of my list (at least for now).

#10: Bay Lake Tower (Previously # 11)

Yes, I still have Bay Lake Tower close to the bottom of my list. BUT, it has moved up a spot!

As I mentioned before, I want a resort that offers convenience and comfort, and while Bay Lake Tower has improved the comfort part with recently refurbished rooms, most other amenities, such as dining still require a walk over to the Contemporary side of the property. Plus, the lobby just feels so lacklustre to me and doesn’t really deliver the magical Disney touches I look for.

However, the thing I can appreciate a little more now is access to the monorail. After staying at another monorail resort recently, I have developed a new appreciation for its convenience. Additionally, I have to give props to the gorgeous, updated rooms. I especially love the artwork inspired by Mary Blair – they have quintessential Disney vibes that I absolutely love.

That said, it is still near the bottom of my list. Perhaps if I stay here in the future, that could change. But for now, it’s coming in at number 10.

#9: Saratoga Springs (Previously # 4).

Alright, this is the biggest shake-up yet! I was a die-hard fan of this resort and always willing to hype it up. However, after my most recent stay did not match up to my past experiences, I was left disappointed.

First off, one of my favorite parts of this resort is the smell of the lobby. I’m not sure what happened, but on my most recent visit, the lobby didn’t smell as intoxicating as it has in the past. Secondly, one of my favorite Disney bites was the pizza at the Artist’s Palette. This time, however, it was a little greasy and just did not hit the same.

Now, this resort is super cost-effective, so while my recent stay wasn’t as great as my past two trips, I’d still consider staying here since it is more budget-friendly and a nice, quiet resort. While I will say the proximity to Disney Springs is a big plus, and the Cast Members here are super friendly and accommodating, this past stay left me feeling like I was missing out on the previous magic. With this in mind, Saratoga has taken a big dip down my list for now, but I’m holding out for a redemption story for this resort.

#8: Animal Kingdom Villas (previously # 9).

This resort is slowly bumping up on my list! I previously ranked this resort one spot lower because, while it is gorgeous and the immersion is unlike anything else, it is a bit farther out and only offers bus transportation (which I don’t mind, but after experiencing the convenience of the monorail, I get the appeal). Also, the hallways at this resort can feel like they go on forever!

Otherwise, the Animal Kingdom Villas are pure magic. The fact that you’re staying among the animals on the Savanna and can wake up to a giraffe outside your room, is such a unique experience. The pools at this resort are also some of the best on property, in my humble opinion, and I think they are regularly slept on. 

Finally, the redeeming factor that bumped this resort up a spot? Refurbishment! Both Kidani Village and Jambo House are being refreshed in 2026! 

I do think that if I get the chance to stay here, it could go even further up. For now, it remains at number 8.

#7: The Cabins at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort (Previously # 6)

I will admit this resort is definitely for some, not all, but as someone who has enjoyed camping adventures in her youth and adult life, I think this resort would be a hoot to stay at and a very unique experience for a Disney vacation!

The DVC Cabins are a super-fun accommodation option that offers a quiet, cozy cabin vacation perfect for many different kinds of trips! Whether you’re going solo and want some peace and quiet, looking for a fun girls’ weekend, or staying with family, I think this would be a really fun option if you’re an adventure-loving group. Plus, there is so much to do at this resort! I’m talking pony rides, canoeing, archery, and more! There’s also so much camaraderie among guests, with people decorating their campsites and golf carts; it’s just great vibes all around. I also still say to this day that Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue is one of the best dining experiences at WDW.

The only downside to this resort for me is its size. Of course, a campground needs LOTS of room, but you would definitely want to consider renting a golf cart (at an additional cost) to get around, or take advantage of the internal bus service. Overall, it might not be for everyone, but if you love a quiet retreat with a dash of Disney Magic, you’ll enjoy this resort.

#6: The Villas at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa (Previously # 8)

This resort jumped up two spots from my last rankings, as I always find something new to love when I visit. While this resort still feels like “Old Money” vibes to me, it is super pretty and fun to explore.

The Resort Studios are at the top of my bucket list, as these Mary Poppins-themed rooms speak to me on a deep level! You also cannot beat all the food and shopping options here, plus the new lobby refurbishments are gorgeous, especially with the addition of The Perch!

However, just as I said in my last rating, while my heart has a champagne taste, my wallet has a water budget. The Grand Floridian does check every box for me – convenience, dining, and lots of pixie dust. But it’s definitely still a splurge for many Disney lovers out there. I’m still manifesting a future stay here to one day live out that elegant Disney fantasy, but for now, I’ll still be making dining reservations here to soak up the magic for a short time.

#5: Disney’s Beach Club Villas (unchanged)

This resort is holding strong at number 5 on my list. I didn’t really get a chance to hang out or look around on my most recent trip, but I hope to stay here sometime in the future!

Disney’s Beach Club Villas is still a very popular resort pick, and is one of the most requested by our guests. This resort is so stunning, and the building colors are so calming. It also offers some of the most popular amenities, especially with Stormalong Bay, essentially a mini water park within the resort. There’s some fantastic food options (shout-out to Beaches & Cream!), and lots of great spaces for lounging and relaxing. You also cannot beat the proximity to Epcot and Hollywood Studios!

My only critique of this resort is just how hot a commodity it is! It’s definitely important to book as early as possible with this resort, because it has a limited inventory and can sell out quickly!

#4: Disney’s Polynesian Villas & Bungalows and new Island Tower (Previously # 7)

Listen, I will gladly admit when I am wrong about a resort. I did have this resort ranked lower on my previous list, but after my recent stay here, it has jumped dramatically because it’s UNREAL.

I think this resort would absolutely be one of the first resorts I consider staying at again. I can confirm I loved having easy access to a Dole Whip every night of my trip. The dining here definitely delivers, with lots of options to choose from. The nachos from Capt. Cook’s are also especially good!

I also got to tour some of the rooms at the new Island Tower, and oh my goodness – these rooms were STUNNING! The OG Deluxe Studios are so spacious, too, and the split bathroom is the best amenity! You also have access to the monorail and are close to the Transportation and Ticket Center, making this resort super convenient for getting to the parks.

My only critique about this resort? It is still very busy due to its popularity. There were times my trek to get a Dole Whip was met with a very long line. Still, I think this resort is absolutely amazing, and I want to stay here again ASAP.

#3: Disney’s BoardWalk Villas (Previously #2)

Now, despite slipping down a spot, this still remains one of my favorite DVC resorts on property. My top few favorites are usually rated within a very slim margin of each other because they’re all so amazing, and the BoardWalk Villas still remain solidly in my top 3.

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: the vibes of this resort are so whimsical and charming, and it’s ESPECIALLY great at night, when the Edison bulbs are aglow, and the resort is buzzing with excitement. There’s loads of great food offerings here (special shoutout to Trattoria al Forno for the best tiramisu I’ve ever had), and I love all the cool decor in the lobby as well. And, just like Beach Club, you really cannot beat the proximity to both Epcot and Hollywood Studios!

Like other fan favorites, however, this resort sells out quickly, so make sure to book early; you’ll be thankful later!

#2: Copper Creek Villas & Cabins and Boulder Ridge Villas at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge (Previously # 1)

I KNOW! I said this wasn’t up for debate previously and that this is the best DVC resort. I STILL THINK THIS RESORT IS AMAZING! This is practically tied for first place, and I will still praise this resort until the end of time, so don’t hate me for going back on what I said!

Everything I said before still rings true – the lobby is absolutely breathtaking, and I truly could spend hours at this resort curled up with a coffee, people watching or reading a good book. I also think this resort has some of the best holiday decorations around, too. 

It truly feels like a wilderness getaway in the Rockies, despite being a 10-15 minute boat ride away from Magic Kingdom! Plus, you really can’t go wrong with the different food offerings here. From Whispering Canyon Cafe (one of my favorite dining spots) to Roaring Fork and Geyser Point, there are delicious bites all around. 

I would recommend this resort time and time again!

1: Disney’s Riviera Resort (Previously # 3)

So, after touring some of the rooms at this resort, I’ve decided this is actually my top DVC resort! I am manifesting a future stay here.

The main reason this resort has crept up to my #1 spot is because of how gorgeous and luxurious it is. The rooms are just so posh and exquisite, and I absolutely LOVED the decor when I saw it in person. Additionally, the resort itself is so compact, and you don’t have to go too far to access any amenities or eateries.

Another thing I adore about this resort – the mosaics just outside the Skyliner station. The Tangled and Peter Pan designs are just so pretty, and the little vestibule they’re in is such a peaceful place to sit and relax after a park day as well.

I’m also a huge fan of the Skyliner, as it is a super fun way to get around and offers gorgeous sights. It’s so much fun flying into Epcot over the France pavilion, so this resort gets two thumbs up from me!

Well, it has been a fun adventure revisiting my resort rankings! I feel like they are always and consistently changing, plus, I LOVE hearing everyone else’s resort rankings, so don’t be afraid to share them with us. I’ll probably write another updated list in the future, too!

Now, in the almost 5 years I’ve been at David’s, a common question I have seen is “What is the difference between a point rental reservation and a Confirmed Reservation?” Fear not, gentle reader, I’m here to tell you! 

Firstly, let’s start with a DVC points rental request! If you have ever booked with us, you may recall the “Book Now” button at the top of our website that brings you to a blank request form. Here, we’ll ask for your travel dates, room type, guest list, and any other details we need to book your stay. If there is availability for your dates and we find a DVC owner who can secure your stay, you will receive a Disney confirmation number for your submitted vacation and be free to continue planning.

This service we offer is a totally customizable way to book a DVC reservation. This method is best for those who have specific dates and resorts in mind for their trip, or who want to secure popular accommodations as early as possible. This means a brand-new reservation is booked specifically for you, as a DVC owner would reserve your exact resort and dates through the DVC inventory, from the pool of available rooms. This process can be very similar to booking directly with Disney.

Now, sometimes, if your chosen dates or room type are unavailable, you may have received a suggestion from us to check out our website’s Confirmed Reservations page. This page lists “ready to rent” reservations: bookings DVC owners have already made but are no longer able to use. So, they decide to rent out the full stay as-is! With Confirmed Reservations, all the details are fixed: the room type, resort, price, and dates cannot be changed. 

With this in mind, Confirmed Reservations are better suited for those with flexible plans or dates, or for those looking for last-minute options. This side of our service is best if you have some leeway with your dates, room type, and resort, or if you’re looking for extra savings (these reservations can sometimes be further discounted!). Essentially, if you pick a Confirmed Reservation off of our website, you’re trying to take over an existing reservation from a DVC owner.

Now, the thing with Confirmed Reservations is that we still can’t make guarantees until we have sent you that Disney confirmation number for your booking. There is still a chance the stay may no longer be available if the owner has changed their plans, but if that is the case, we’ll work with you to try and find alternate options or cancel your request and return your deposit. 

And there you have it! Both are great options for renting DVC points and are perfect for any type of Disney vacation. Of course, if you have questions, feel free to reach out!

When it comes to Disney Vacation Club, there are a lot of things people debate: the best resort, the best rooms, the best location, and more. But as we get into the summer months, I want to dive into one topic in particular: let’s make a splash and rank my favourite DVC feature pools!

I am not a big swimmer if I’m honest, but the vibe of sitting by the pool can really change the feel of a vacation day. Sometimes the best memories come from a slow afternoon by the pool, grabbing a drink from the pool bar, or ending the night dipping your toes in the water. So naturally, I decided to rank my favorites!

Now, before anyone comes for me, this is completely based on my own opinions, and once you get past the first few, the rankings become very close for me. Every DVC resort feature pool has something to enjoy, which honestly made this harder than it seems. With that said… let’s rank them!

#10: Bay Lake Tower at Disney’s Contemporary Resort: Bay Cove Pool

Let me start by saying I don’t dislike this pool at all, but compared to some of the other DVC feature pools, it feels a little less memorable.

The biggest advantage here is definitely the location. Being so close to Magic Kingdom gives Bay Lake Tower an energy that’s hard to beat, and there’s something really fun about the idea of coming back from the parks and jumping straight into the pool.

The pool itself has a modern design with a 148-foot-long waterslide, making it great for families, but theming-wise, it doesn’t feel quite as immersive as some of the other pools higher on this list, in my opinion. Still, the convenience alone makes this one easy to enjoy.

#9: Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa: High Rock Spring Pool

I feel like Saratoga Springs is one of Disney’s most underrated resorts in general, and I actually really enjoy the pools in general at Saratoga too.

The rocky waterfall theming at the first of Saratoga’s two feature pools is fun, the waterslide is solid, and the zero-depth entry gives it a really relaxed atmosphere. It works perfectly with the resort’s overall vibe.

This is also one of those resort pools that rarely feels overwhelming, which honestly can be a huge plus during busy Disney trips. It’s definitely a really enjoyable place to slow down for an afternoon.

#8: Disney’s Riviera Resort: Riviera Pool

Like the resort in general, the Riviera Pool might honestly be one of the prettiest pool areas at Walt Disney World.

It feels elegant and calm in a way that makes you want to slow down and spend an afternoon there. It may not have the biggest slide or the most over-the-top theming, but the atmosphere absolutely brings the charm. The pool itself features a waterslide and a zero-entry design, plus a really nice splash pad area themed to Disney’s Fantasia (a very underrated film) nearby.

This feels less like a “theme park pool” and more like a traditional resort destination perfect for a family getaway.

#7: The Villas at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa: Beach Pool

This pool somehow manages to feel both classy and family-friendly at the same time, perfectly fitting the resort’s overall vibe.

The pool overlooks the Seven Seas Lagoon, and the nearby Alice in Wonderland-inspired splash pad area gives it an extra touch of Disney charm. There’s also a surprisingly fun 181-foot-long waterslide, which adds just enough energy to balance out the more relaxing atmosphere.

It feels very relaxing without ever being boring, which honestly feels very Grand Floridian.

#6: Disney’s Old Key West Resort: Sandcastle Pool

Maybe this is a hot take, but I actually really like the Sandcastle Pool.

Is it the flashiest DVC pool? No, but it has so much personality! I may be biased, since it was the first DVC resort I ever stayed at, but Old Key West has a certain charm, and I think the feature pool here is just another part of that magic (including the hidden Mickey at the base of the waterslide).

The giant sandcastle slide feels like classic Disney in the best way possible, and the laid-back Florida Keys atmosphere fits the resort perfectly. Plus, I genuinely think the lighthouse sauna is one of the coolest and most unique features at any Disney resort pool!

#5: The Copper Creek Villas & Cabins and Boulder Ridge Villas at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge:  Copper Creek Springs Pool

This pool is all about atmosphere! It’s also the resort I stayed at most recently, and I still think about the beautiful rocky architecture surrounding the pool daily.

The waterfalls, trees, and rustic theming make this one of the coziest pool areas on Disney property. Especially at night (my favorite!), it feels so immersive. Walking by it each morning as we headed out was such a relaxing way to start the day.

It may not have the biggest slide or the most elaborate layout, but it absolutely nails the feeling of staying at Wilderness Lodge!

#4: Disney’s BoardWalk Villas: Luna Park Pool

I used to find this pool very off-putting… if you know, you know about the old clown slide! Since the retheme, however, I’ve become a huge fan of Luna Park Pool!

The Mickey and friends updates to the Keister Coaster waterslide are so fun, and the carnival atmosphere fits the BoardWalk perfectly. It feels playful in a way that really matches the resort’s energy!

The location around Crescent Lake also gives this pool bonus points. There’s just something special about the idea of ending a pool day and walking out onto the Boardwalk at night!

#3: Disney’s Polynesian Villas & Bungalows: Lava Pool

This pool is just so cool!

Between the volcano slide, palm trees, tropical music, and atmosphere overlooking the Seven Seas Lagoon, the Lava Pool just looks like the best time for guests of all ages.

Like the Polynesian in general, it’s fun, vibrant, and lively without feeling overly chaotic. I can’t wait to stay at this resort one day and experience a pool day here for myself!

#2: Disney’s Animal Kingdom Villas: Samawati Springs Pool

This may be one of the most underrated pools at Walt Disney World! 

I have heard many families raving about this pool area at Kidani Village, and I completely understand why. It feels so immersive (just like the rest of the resort) and tucked away from the rest of the world. Between the 128-foot-long waterslide, the large zero-depth entry pool, and the incredible Uwanja Camp water playground, it’s easy to see why this is such a favorite for families.

The Animal Kingdom Villas also get bonus points for having real flamingos over at Jambo House’s Uzima Springs Pool, which is such a cool feature!

#1: Disney’s Beach Club Villas: Stormalong Bay

Is anyone really shocked by this? 

Stormalong Bay is iconic for a reason! The sand-bottom area of the pool, lazy river, and legendary shipwreck slide make this feel more like a mini water park. If I had stayed here as a kid, there’s no way you would have gotten me off that slide. I would have been going down it all day long!

Is it busy? Absolutely. Is finding a chair sometimes an Olympic sport? Also yes. But it’s so fun, and the theming is incredible. There’s a reason people specifically book Beach Club just for this pool. It’s legendary!

If you had to pick, what DVC feature pool would you rank number one? Which pool do you think deserves more love? At the end of the day, there really isn’t a “bad” DVC pool. Some are more relaxing, some are more elaborately themed, and some just have that extra bit of Disney magic that makes them unforgettable!

I can’t believe it’s been over a year now since Disney Villains: Unfairly Ever After and The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure opened at Disney’s Hollywood Studios!

Hollywood Studios is one of my favorite parks when it comes to entertainment. Whether you’re looking for live performances like Beauty and the Beast – Live on Stage or Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular!, a sneak peek at an upcoming feature film, a behind-the-scenes look at the magic at Walt Disney Presents, or an interactive show like For the First Time in Forever: A Frozen Sing-Along Celebration, there is something for everyone!

When I heard about the two new additions last year, I was very interested to see how these shows would enhance the park’s entertainment options.

The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure is an updated version of the former Voyage of the Little Mermaid show. The new iteration still focuses on the retelling of the 1989 animated feature film; however, many wonderful updates have been made. Two more songs were added to the show: “Daughters of Triton” and “Kiss the Girl,” alongside all the returning favorites performed by live actors. You’ll definitely catch me still singing along to “Poor Unfortunate Souls” every time, and there was also new digital imagery added to some scenes.

For this updated version of the show, the puppets and animatronics also received a refresh. I am a huge fan of puppetry and think Disney does such a great job with it in their shows and productions. This show is no exception! The sea creatures feel so real and swim effortlessly across the stage. They add an extra layer of Disney magic, making the whole performance come alive. As someone who grew up enjoying a lot of Jim Henson projects, the puppets made me feel so nostalgic, especially Max!

As for Disney Villains: Unfairly Ever After, I will admit I wasn’t sure how I would like this new addition to the park. I hadn’t seen much of the villains in the parks outside Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party; however, I will say that most of my favorite Disney songs are performed by the villains. With the rise of villain backstories like those seen in films like Descendants, Maleficent, and Cruella, and with so many villainous characters being fan favorites, guests clearly want to see more of them!

This is currently one of the few Disney attractions that focuses solely on villains, and I was intrigued to see how Disney would make it a family-friendly performance while keeping the frightening elements to a minimum. I can say I was not disappointed and will return to see the show on all future trips.

This interactive show gets the audience involved in deciding which villain was the most unfairly treated after being summoned by the Magic Mirror. Through an original song, the Magic Mirror makes his case about how he has been put into a position by all the villains in the land to answer the question “who has been treated the most unfairly?”

In the show, Cruella, Maleficent, and Captain Hook make their pitches to the crowd through live performances with familiar tunes. There are plenty of other not-so-friendly faces that make appearances throughout the show as well, through the many magical mirrors that surround the stage. This mix of live actors and technology makes the performance feel magical, bringing these classic stories to life right before our eyes. 

At the end of the show, the audience votes for who they believe is the most unfairly treated based on what they heard. This makes the show unique, as the ending could be different every time you see it. I think this is such a fun idea and a great way to get guests coming back again and again!

Disney Villains: Unfairly Ever After has quickly become one of my favorite things to do at Hollywood Studios thanks to its catchy songs, sassy performances, and stunning visuals!

I can’t wait to see all the new additions and re-imaginings that are underway at Hollywood Studios! This park has always been a favorite of mine, and I think it will remain that way for many years to come.

As someone who loves going to Disney and has never been a big fan of rollercoasters (I know…hot take!), I like to find all my magic and thrills in the smaller, unexpected moments.

I’ve always been a go-go-go kind of person, wanting to cram everything in and squeeze as much magic as possible out of every trip. But on my last couple of trips, I’ve learned that slowing down and taking in the little moments can be just as magical. So I wanted to share some of my favorite Disney experiences that might not be the first things people think of as the highlight of their trip!

When Your Resort Becomes the Highlight

Starting off strong, right at the beginning of a trip, I love a travel day.

Hear me out, I know it can often be a long and exhausting day, where you’ve woken up early, probably sat in an airport for way longer than you ever hoped, and are constantly moving all day, carrying heavy bags. But nothing beats the anticipation of arriving and starting your trip!

That moment when you’re dropped off at the front entrance and get to walk into the lobby of the resort you’ve been dreaming about staying at. The scent of the resort hits you (those wonderful Disney resort smells!), and suddenly you’ve entered a whole new world: Vacation Mode.

Extra stars for the trips when your room is ready when you arrive, and you get to mosey right on over to your room! Picture it: you walk into a cozy villa, open the curtains to a beautiful view, and realize you’re probably about to have some of the best sleep of your life after a long travel day. And then you remember: tomorrow you get to go to a Disney park!

The Magic of a Pool Break

Taking a break in the day to sit and relax by the pool is so unmatched.

The parks are fantastic and a lot of fun, but it’s also good to balance the noise and crowds with some time relaxing, reading, or enjoying a snack by the pool.

One of my favorite moments from my last trip was dipping my toes in the Boulder Ridge Cove Pool at the end of the night. The sound of Beauty and the Beast played in the distance as other guests enjoyed the Movies under the Stars experience, but the pool was nice and peaceful, with only a few other guests in it at the time. This allowed for such a unique, quiet moment to dip my tired feet in the water and just sit back and enjoy the end of my night.

The Pause You Didn’t Plan (AKA People Watching)

When you’ve had a long day and need a break, one of my favorite things to do is people-watching.

Whether you’re at the parks, at Disney Springs, or at your resort, there are always spots to sit and enjoy a moment where nothing is scheduled, and you just want to relax and enjoy the views.

Often, I only mean to sit down for a few minutes to rest and enjoy some food, but then I’ll look down at my watch to see that time has flown by. There’s so much to see as you watch families walking by, children experiencing magical moments for the first time, and characters arriving to meet guests. There’s always something unexpected to catch your eye!

My personal favorite is to sit upstairs on the outside balcony at Pinocchio Village Haus in Magic Kingdom with my chicken fingers and fries, and watch people down in the area behind Cinderella Castle! There’s something magical about seeing people coming through the Castle into Fantasyland, excitedly passing through on their way to Peter Pan’s Flight, or one of the other nearby rides. The Prince Charming Regal Carrousel down below is also mesmerizing and fun to watch!

The Cast Members Who Make the Magic

Nothing adds magic to a Disney trip like really great Cast Members, in my opinion, and sometimes those little magical moments can really make or break your experience!

One of my favorite recent experiences was dining at Liberty Tree Tavern; our server was fantastic. He was so lively, chatty, and fun. A couple of us also had dietary restrictions, and he put so much care and attention into our allergies, making sure we had lots of options and suggestions.

He told us all about his wife’s similar dietary needs and gave us suggestions based on their personal experiences. It was so great to hear and very helpful! He also gave us extra packaged desserts to bring with us when we were done, going above and beyond to provide us with a magical experience!

For me, these are the memories you don’t always take photos of—you simply experience them and carry them with you. It’s the little things that you bring up in stories as you tell all your friends about the special moments that added a bit of extra pixie dust to an already fantastic trip!

Finding Your New Favorite Foods

I’ve got good news and bad news for you…

The Good News: Disney has so many delicious things to try, and every trip seems to come with a new favorite snack.

I am a huge fan of Dole Whip. I don’t think you can go through a Disney trip without consuming at least one. It’s refreshing and delicious, and the original is such a classic for a reason. For fun, I recently tried the “I Lava You” Float. I could tell from the pictures it would be good, but I was not prepared for just how good it actually was.

This float, inspired by the “Lava” Pixar short, is made with Orange Dole Whip, and the popping candies really gave it that lava-inspired feel. The mixture of the different fruity flavors together just made it the perfect dessert to enjoy on a hot day. I split it with my group on our way over to sit down and watch Walt Disney’s Enchanted Tiki Room, and we all still talk about how great it was!

The Bad News: Sometimes Disney snacks just don’t taste the same at home. No matter what I do, my recreations of some of my favorite trip treats somehow just don’t taste the same if I’m not walking around Disney property! But I guess that means I just have to plan another trip to go back!

The Perfect Fireworks Spot

Fireworks are one of my favorite sights in the whole world. There is something so spectacular about seeing fireworks light up the sky, and that is only exceeded by being paired with the Happily Ever After soundtrack and Castle projections. There are a number of good Disney firework shows, but nothing will ever truly beat Happily Ever After for me!

That is why finding the perfect spot to watch the fireworks is so important. On my last trip, it was something completely unexpected, but we happened to catch the boat between Wilderness Lodge and Magic Kingdom at the exact moment the fireworks were happening! Though you can sit and watch the show in areas around Wilderness Lodge, it was a special moment to be enjoying a ride across the water while seeing the fireworks high in the sky!

I wouldn’t do this every single time, as I like being in the park to watch the show, but it was such a special moment that just happened organically, making it feel even more magical.

Disney After Dark

The only thing cooler than the fireworks is having Extended Evening Hours in the parks.

This perk for guests staying in Deluxe DVC Villas adds that extra bit of magic, and Disney at night is a whole other experience! I love walking through the parks when the sky is dark, and the lights seem extra bright. And we can all agree that seeing Spaceship Earth in EPCOT all lit up at night is a peak experience, right?

Even on evenings without additional park hours, Disney at night in general is a special kind of magic. There is something special about staying until closing and making your way out of the parks knowing you’re one of the last guests around. The parks feel so calm and serene—a total contrast to the middle of the day, when everyone is rushing from ride to ride. Your feet may be tired, but your heart is happy knowing you spent the whole day making memories, eating great food, and enjoying as much magic as possible!

Finding those little moments on your trip that really elevate already great experiences is what Disney is all about. It’s part of what makes each trip so special!

Greetings and salutations, my fellow travelers! I’ve often written about DVC resorts and what I love about them, but today we’re doing a bit of a supercut on the subject! 

I’m going to talk about every DVC resort at Walt Disney World and what my personal favorite feature of each one is. So, let’s get to it!

Disney’s Animal Kingdom Villas: The Savannas

This one feels a bit obvious, but there’s no denying that the savannas are one of the best features you can find at any resort on property.

My own personal stay at Kidani Village convinced me that the Savanna View category is worth every penny. It is the gift that keeps on giving! Being able to chill on your balcony and watch the wildlife never gets old. It’s a great place to have breakfast or take a break between runs to the parks. If you like scheduling a resort day or two into your schedule, this is a fantastic pick!

Bay Lake Tower at Disney’s Contemporary Resort: All the Views

‘The higher the floor, the better’ is my motto here! The amazing views of Bay Lake and Magic Kingdom are definitely worth it, but even more impressive is being able to watch the fireworks from the comfort of your resort.

Watching the fireworks from Bay Lake Tower definitely gives the show a different feel, so if you’re looking for a new angle on things, it’s worth checking out!

Disney’s Beach Club Villas: Beaches & Cream Soda Shop

For those going on big family trips, Stormalong Bay might be the reason you want to stay at Beach Club. Or maybe it’s being right next door to EPCOT.

For me, I’d say Beaches & Cream is my favorite part of Beach Club. As I get older and have to cut back on sugar and other unhealthy foods, I’ve learned to make sure I make the most out of it when I do indulge. Beaches & Cream might use up your cheat days, but it will be absolutely worth it!

Disney’s Boardwalk Villas: The Boardwalk

This is definitely a bucket list resort for me! The aesthetics of the BoardWalk Villas, with its 1920’s Atlantic City shore vibe, just speak to me.

The boardwalk itself is a perfect draw! The dining and shopping options are great any time, but at night the boardwalk truly comes to life. If you want a nighttime spectacular beyond the usual fireworks at the parks, a stay at the BoardWalk might be just what you’re looking for!

The Cabins at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort: All the Activities

For all those who like their Disney escapes to be a bit more rustic, Fort Wilderness is for you. 

For those who embrace the great outdoors, there are tons of activities, like archery, canoe and kayak rentals, horseback riding, and campfire sing-alongs. Taking a day away from the parks to enjoy your resort is always a great option in my opinion, but at Fort Wilderness, you may want more than one!

The Villas at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa: All the Dining

I love the look of the Grand Floridian. The Victorian opulence of Disney’s flagship resort is always stunning to see. I have to admit that whenever I enter the lobby, I feel a bit underdressed, like I should be wearing a suit and tie!

With the Garden View Lounge Tea Experience finally reopening and 1900 Park Fare recently returning as well, it’s a reminder that the Grand Floridian has some of the most impressive dining options you can find at any resort. From the casual dining of Gasparilla Island Grill and the Grand Floridian Café to the upscale Citricos and Narcoossee’s, to the very indulgent Victoria and Albert’s, the Grand Floridian is where you want to be if you want the best food without leaving your resort!

Disney’s Old Key West Resort: True Florida Feel

Many of the DVC Resorts are built around making you feel like you’re in some far-off place, whether it’s a tropical island, Africa, Europe or the woods of the Pacific Northwest. But the original DVC resort is perfect for anyone going to Florida to experience the true feel of Florida itself!

“Welcome Home” is the tag line and greeting of Disney Vacation Club, but Old Key West is the resort that feels the most like home to me. At least home, if I could afford to live in a luxury home in the Florida Keys!

Disney’s Polynesian Villas & Bungalows: The Bungalows

The Polynesian is easily a fan favorite for many Disney fans. Picking a standout feature here was a bit tricky, but in the end, I do love unique room types, and that’s my highlight here. Saratoga Springs has the Treehouses, Wilderness Lodge and Fort Wilderness have their Cabins, but the Bungalows along the Seven Seas Lagoon are my favorite of them all.

The Bungalows are definitely worth checking out if you’re looking for the feel of a tropical island escape!

Disney’s Riviera Resort: All the Best Art

I love getting new things to put on my walls, and I love seeing unique art around Disney resorts. I previously wrote an entire blog about the art at Disney’s Riviera Resort, and to this day, it has some of my all-time favorites.

The tile mosaics in the archway on the path to the Skyliner are fantastic, the display of European Disney movie posters in French and Italian are fun, and all the different paintings of Disney characters in different art styles are fantastic. Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa: The Springs Next Door

Saratoga Springs holds a special place in my heart since it was the first DVC resort I ever stayed at. I will always champion it as an underrated resort that more people should check out.

For those who like having a resort day or two, Saratoga offers a number of great features, but my favorite is being super close to Disney Springs. Whether it’s a quick, scenic ferry ride or just walking there, being so close to so much dining, shopping, and other entertainment options is incredibly convenient. If you love Disney Springs, this is the place for you.

The Boulder Ridge Villas and Copper Creek Villas & Cabins at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge: A Legendary Lobby

There is so much to love about Wilderness Lodge. The woodsy, rustic feel evokes the great outdoors without sacrificing the luxuries of a deluxe resort. No part of Wilderness Lodge embodies this more than its amazing, massive lobby! 

I love the look and feel of the natural wood and stone used in the decor. I also really love the rocking chairs in front of the massive 82-foot-tall fireplace in the lobby. All the DVC lobbies are great, but this one, more than any other, is the one where I could spend hours just relaxing with a good book.

Well, that’s all of them, at least for now! The next time you’re picking a resort for a Walt Disney World stay, remember to consider that one special detail that makes a resort stand out for you!

I recently sailed on the Disney Destiny, and it was unforgettable! This was not only my first Disney Cruise but my first cruise EVER, so you can imagine my excitement (I know, I’m VERY spoiled!) I’m eager to share what surprised and amazed me!

Truthfully, I went into this with a very small part of me that was worried that going with a group of adults on a “work” trip might be… boring. Spoiler alert, I was INCREDIBLY wrong. Sure, we had a pretty packed itinerary; however, we still got to experience tons of the magic, and even with four days, there were still things we didn’t have time for. (So that’s how they keep you coming back!)

But let’s start at the beginning!

The moment you board the ship and your traveling party is announced to the Grand Hall…it nearly gave me goosebumps! At many points during the trip, I forgot we were on the ocean, and this was no exception, even if we were still docked. The Wakanda theme and the powerful statue of T’Challa in the Grand Hall set my expectations, and the Destiny kept delivering. 

From here, we had time before the muster drill, so we started exploring. This is EASILY the moment where you could get hit with analysis paralysis, which makes me give a shout-out to the Disney Cruise Line Navigator app, which comes in clutch! Being able to see all upcoming events and build your own itinerary for the day really sets cruising apart from other trips. 

We headed to the Haunted Mansion Parlor. This was certainly my favorite lounge on the ship, and the atmosphere was spooky and bewitching. As much as I thought Cask & Cannon would win me over, the sheer detail of the Haunted Mansion Parlor could leave you spellbound!

This is a good time to mention that if you have a moment, sneak over to one of the Haunted Mansion: Happy Hunt terminals for a ghost hunt spanning the entire ship! We did this on our sea day, but if I could go back, I would start hunting at the beginning of the cruise. That way, you can find/collect the ghosts as you travel around during the sailing instead of running all over the ship to find them! Especially after long days of walking and standing. You will thank me later.

Pro tip: make sure your MagicBand is up to date and fully charged! The ghosts are very picky…

Being reminded of that ghost hunt got me hungry, so let’s talk dining! Our rotation for the 4-night cruise was Worlds of Marvel, Pridelands: Feast of the Lion King x 2 (no performance when dining on Pirate Night), and 1923. I think the first thing that surprised me was that the Cast Members who make up your dining serving team are the same for each night’s meal! Having them remember not only your name but also special preferences, like my drink consisting of Coke Zero with a hint of Blueberry Acai Vitamin Water, made it feel super bougie. Also, don’t judge me, it tastes like cream soda! But having the same team of Cast Members for each dining room lets you form a genuine connection, chat freely about your dining experience, and get their honest recommendations!

Truthfully, I wasn’t blown away by the food on the ship. But I don’t think that is a bad thing, and let me explain! Disney does an amazing job of offering traditional foods while also giving you the option to explore new dishes if you’re feeling adventurous! If you have picky eaters, they will find something they can enjoy; however, I’m a sucker for outlandish foods. Though I had some great dishes, nothing really scratched that itch. But when you can order as much as you like…you tend to give them a passing score.

Notably, things I enjoyed were the Cape Malay Shrimp Curry (Pridelands), Curried Apricot Chicken Sosatles (Pridelands), 1923 Peppered Filet Migon (1923), Buena Vista Soft Shell Tacos (1923), and Tia Dalma’s Jerk Chicken (Pridelands – Pirates In the Caribbean menu). Not to mention the sheer amount of cheesecake!

Even though I didn’t think the food was a highlight, the dining areas themselves were! I think the weakest of the three was Worlds of Marvel, which was disappointing as a Marvel fan. I think there was so much potential for fun here that was just missed. Maybe miniature dishes with an Ant-Man-themed design, or something a little more interesting than Marvel trivia happening during dinner. Especially when the next night we had Pridelands: Feast of the Lion King and… Holy moly, I was BLOWN away by the performance! The restaurant itself feels like you are at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Villas, and if it weren’t for the rocking of the ship, I wouldn’t have known I was on the ocean.

Saving the best for last, 1923 was an absolute treat! I’m a sucker for concept art and the creative process, and seeing all the drawings and Disney history around the restaurant made me want to explore more than eat. If you have the chance, I would recommend taking the guided tour of the ship, as there is so much to see that you won’t have time to appreciate it once you’re hungry from a full day!

Now, let’s go walk off some of that food! What better way to do that than to talk about the two islands we stopped at during our sailing! We visited both the beautiful Disney Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point and Disney Castaway Cay on our loop.

The weather was fantastic on our cruise! Nice and windy, so not overbearingly hot. Even though the water was a tad cold, we had an amazing beach day at both islands! Where Castaway Cay was definitely your more traditional Caribbean experience with beach, water, and fun under the sun that you would come to expect, Lookout Cay had a unique vibe. It was less Disney-focused and more about traditional Bahamian art and culture!

Back onboard the ship, there was still PLENTY to do! Firstly, the pool deck was stunning! Playing Disney Movies on the massive Funnel screen all day with the pool and food close by! The perfect place for parents to “relax” while the kids run rampant! I use “relax” loosely, as the pool deck is beautiful chaos, with the exciting AquaMouse looming overhead for a fun waterslide experience! There was even an adults-only area as well for those trying to find some peace and relaxation while on the seas!

Now, even though our group didn’t have a whole lot of time to vibe on the pool deck, we still had tons to experience! Something is ALWAYS going on! We were even lucky enough to get the option of an early screening of Hoppers on our ship before it came to the theatres! Whether we were meeting the villains, losing at Bingo, or seeing one of the shows, we were always on the go!

Disney doesn’t miss when it comes to their stage performances, and Hercules was no exception! I was most excited for this, and it did not disappoint! From the cast to the monster designs, I was captivated throughout the whole performance! However, I wanted to give Frozen a shout-out as well; the actor playing Elsa blew me away with her vocals!

I think the biggest highlight of this trip that I didn’t anticipate was the adult-only games/activities held at the Saga lounge. Big shout-out to Yo-Yo, Matthew, Nano, and the other entertainment Cast Members! They made the cruise so memorable with some amazing laughs and shenanigans!

At first, my introverted self was anxious about attending these events, but by the end of the cruise, I was really looking forward to them! The Destiny’s resident storytellers, Zayah and Gamble, also brought so much personality to shows like Elixir Hall, a Marvel comedy performance! I really underestimated how fun it would be, expecting it to be very lukewarm, and I was super surprised by how many genuine laughs I had!

Jeez, how long have I been rambling…Let’s try to wrap things up! There is no way I could truly cover everything without a WALL of text. Plus, it’s so much better to experience it firsthand! 

Overall, my biggest takeaway from this cruise is that you can’t truly outgrow Disney, and I can’t wait for my next cruise!
