The cultural intelligence heightened my ability to collaborate in a globalised workplace which is very relevant to my workplace at EY GDS where we have close to 3 lakh people of different ethnicities working in the same organisation.”

“I engage myself with professional networks and communities. It helps me exchange ideas and remain attuned to industry trends. My favourite pastime is to dive into graphic novels. It’s a delightful blend of leisure and a constant reminder of the power of imagination and storytelling. The novels offer immersive escape and foster creativity. In my spare time I often explore the diverse narratives within the DC universe. I have a penchant for DC and Batman.”
Success of PGPpro education goes beyond academic achievement, Rahul says. It’s a blend of holistic, personal, and professional development. Though the programme is demanding, one must cherish the connections and enjoy learning.
“My suggestion to the incoming students is that they approach the journey of learning with an open mind and stay committed to lifelong learning. Set clear goals and manage time effectively. Develop good connection with faculty, peers and alumni and seek support from them. Apply the lesson learnt to achieve tangible results and become a better person and professional.”

]]>“ISB is a well-known B-school for its reputation as one of the top ranked globally. Having done extensive research, I realised I couldn’t replicate my ISB experience anywhere else.”
Rahul studied engineering at IIT Kanpur and has an MS in petroleum engineering. He however observed that a successful career required more than just technical skills. Some critical skills were essential to master too, such as people handling skills that were key to influencing people and getting work done. PGPpro at ISB was well suited to deliver in these areas. Cohort diversity, a strong mainstay of ISB, gave him insights into different approaches to problem solving and decision making.
“Many who came from sales brought unique insights to problem solving, which was very different from professionals belonging to other functions and domains. I was more inclined to the technical side of things because I was strong in it, but now my vision has expanded and after PGPpro I am comfortable with the business side too.”
Leadership to Rahul means leading the team in the right direction. PGPpro helped him understand that having people with a similar mindset in the team cannot generate the variety of ideas nor bring innovativeness as efficiently as a group of people with diversified skill sets can.
“I see myself growing as a people’s leader rather than just being a technical person. I am applying the principles of pace setting, a leadership style I learnt during PGPpro, where someone highly skilled in a subject accelerates team velocity in delivering a task. Letting people grow and create conditions that can develop their skills. You keep focusing on your team’s objective and being authoritative are what I learnt as vital leadership skills.”
As he pivoted from one domain to another, in his case from energy sector to IoT, the difference he found was in understanding the way decisions are made, how different the sales cycle is and what your leadership style is. “Prior to PGPpro, I wasn’t aware of the nuances, but now I feel strongly equipped with well-informed judgement. Engaging with people to make them your allies and how to negotiate are some I learnt during my course.”
Rahul finds a distinct difference in the way education is rendered at ISB, which gives the students a distinctive edge.
“You may be taught the same thing at any other B-school, but the environment and contexts are different here. At ISB, the approach to teaching and the learning mechanisms differ from other B-schools. Learning happens in many other ways than just through books as hands-on learning experiences abound.”
Rahul leads an innovation team at Reliance Jio, the kind he led in his previous organisation. After his PGPpro, he has been comfortably applying his lessons to his job. The course around corporate ventureship he went through during his international immersion was especially useful.
“Data science in the energy sector is an emerging area. Its effectiveness cannot be judged based on cost and profit only. I learnt about innovation management, for example, how to develop funnel of ideas and how to do open innovations; how to measure performance of innovation teams and how to bring them up to speed. I am putting these teachings to practice.”
The diversity in the cohort revealed to Rahul the wide scope of teachings outside of the classroom. Rahul was curious about the career paths of his cohort and what they did beyond academics. He was struck by a particular kind of people who had a way of influencing others and getting to their objectives.
“There were two distinct kinds of people, I learnt—one who have a way with people and they get their work done with consummate ease, while the other kind are like me who must work hard to achieve the same outcomes. The former kind engage people effortlessly through their communication and get what they want. They have this uncanny ability to engage the right kind of people. I saw it in action when a batchmate took help of a professor to build a solution in his company. I was surprised how little he strained himself to get the results. With all my hard skills I do not have the ability to do what he did. I learnt that to be successful in moving up the ladder you must develop abilities to engage people.”
Rahul has always had a strong network with his batchmates from undergraduate and postgraduate days. But the diversity of thoughts and backgrounds he came across at ISB was exceptional. He has benefitted immensely from the richness of his networks. One such benefit was the expanded scope of opportunities. The job he is in at Reliance Jio, a completely different sector, was recommended by an alumnus.
“Our cohort had people from various backgrounds, such as navy and start-ups, to name a few. Almost 20-30% people were in some stage of a start-up or another; were in early stages or were a co-founder. I got exposed to new knowledge such as the risk taking ability, which is the hallmark of an entrepreneur.”
The start-up desire that seemed a distant dream appears within his grasp now. He now knows the right people to approach if he wants to get a venture started. He now knows he can hire people from ISB if he needs to.
“My advice to the PGPpro aspirants would be to focus on relationship-building as opposed to just focusing on grades. It could be useful wherever you go in the future or any other job you take up. Engaging with the faculty, taking their advice and feedback are particularly useful for those on the leadership track. Their suggestions on certain situations you may have in your company can be very useful.”

]]>The experience of the numerous roles while navigating through several organisational landscapes got him connections and developed a penchant for lifelong learning. Every challenge was a step upward that shaped him into the person he is today.
“Even though my professional commitments temporarily drew me away from an MBA I craved for, I finally got the chance 14 years later.”
While he toyed with several options, Kannav was focused on a meaningful offline course from a global institute that offered practical knowledge that he could apply while working. Doing a full-time course wasn’t an option because he wanted to continue with his job. In a now or never situation, it was a difficult decision, what with aging parents and two children in tow.
“PGPMAX programme resonated deeply with my search criteria. The extensive alumni network and the school’s emphasis on research-based learning set it apart from others that follow a more conventional, textbook-oriented approach. I expressed to my Leadership that if I had to take up a bigger role that they expect me to, I needed an edge over others, I needed learning, I needed to get a varying perspective on solving problems.”
A leap of one role above can happen only when you compete and study with people one level above you, Kannav believed. PGPMAX offered that advantage. Interaction with senior folks has begun to change the way he thinks and the way he expresses himself.

Kannav came to PGPMAX with an air of superiority, but his outlook has changed radically. Sitting in a cohort of 65 exceptionally diverse industry leaders, he now understands the areas he lacks in.
“Being a techie, before joining the programme, I had pictured myself as head of technology or head of programme management and finally be the CXO. But that narrow perspective has now given way to a vast number of choices.”
As each term unfolds, Kannav finds himself more deeply absorbed in soaking in the knowledge and applying the insights at work. The cohort’s diverse inputs have been invaluable. During group assignments, every single problem is explored through multiple lenses. The diversity of the cohort and the variety of solutions they generate for the same challenge enriches decision-making.
The faculty’s brilliance lies in their ability to deliver impactful lessons while simplifying complex concepts rooted in up-to-date research and real-world relevance. “Finance and accountancy have never been my forte. But the way these were taught made them appear easy. I can now understand the numbers, the interdependencies; the nature of data required to make certain decisions. I came face to face with opportunities in entrepreneurship and suddenly I see choices for my career I hadn’t imagined earlier.”
Changing business landscapes has made continuous learning essential. India’s position in the world is changing and so are geopolitical scenarios. Earlier, Kannav’s understanding was just in technology but now he knows where technology will enable other functions of the society.
“Even though PGPMAX is severely demanding, opportunities to expand the learning horizon is phenomenal. The free hand we get in organising, for example, events such as the leadership summit and the encouragement we are provided to take independent decisions to solve our own problems presents an opportunity to exhibit our potential. I am getting to know myself better. All that personal growth is my ROI.”
“Leadership to me is helping others grow, putting my team ahead of me. Autonomy is another skill of leadership. Autonomy is essential for innovation. Freedom to make mistakes is essential to let my team take their own decisions.”

“An enormous benefit I have observed is that the tone of my leaders towards me has changed. Earlier they were directing me, but now they are seeking my opinion.”
Within this vibrant community, Kannav has experienced unparalleled support. In a particular instant of illness far from home, his cohort not only ensured care and essentials but also helped him cover missed lectures and assignments. It was a gesture that epitomised his cohort’s incredible camaraderie.
Kannav is given to continuous learning by exploring new areas of knowledge. He has a passion for automating simple things and has his own electronic kit. Driving his Jeep is a passion he cherishes, and he is a part of the Jeep community that takes him places on long drives.
“I am involved in blood donation and am in the practice of giving back. My parents have been star blood donors and were felicitated by the Haryana government. I spend substantial time with my twin daughters. I enjoy conversing with people, especially face-to-face, and getting to know them.”
Kannav is fascinated by the case study approach to problem solving. To him, it’s a good way to learn what he would have done had he been in the situation. “It’s going to be my spare time activity on how I can I solve problems efficiently. ISB hosts frequent sessions on emerging technologies, offering a great opportunity to stay updated on current trends.”
PGPMAX is not just an MBA programme. It’s a transformative journey that begins to deliver its impact early in the programme, he says. People quickly begin to notice the gradual change in you, he says.

The fear of lower odds and uncertainty about potential variations in the selection process often lead applicants to contemplate delaying their submissions.
Sharing his experience, Sahil Gupta (PGP Co’24), a Round 3 applicant, advises, “Being in the same position last year, I heard rumours about lower odds and unique challenges in Round 3. Despite initial preparations for Round 2, my hectic schedule hindered my progress. Despite concerns, I took a leap of faith based on others’ advice. As a Chartered Accountant with a less-than-stellar GMAT/GRE score, I believed my chances were minimal. Yet, here I am today. The application process is straightforward: apply, undergo interviews, participate in interactive sessions, and soon enough, you’ll be part of the ISB community!”
Adding her perspective, Tania Aggarwal (PGP Co’24), a Round 3 applicant, states, “I had similar concerns last year, given my extensive work experience. However, after participating in PGP webinars, I discovered that applying in Round 3 had no drawbacks. ISB doesn’t view reapplications negatively. Even if not accepted, applying in Round 3 offers personalized feedback, ensuring a stronger application in subsequent years. This realization prompted my decision to proceed with my application in Round 3, and I got selected.”
For Lohitha Reddy (PGP Co’24), the journey was unique, “Honestly, it was a whirlwind experience. I took my GMAT/GRE exam on December 30th and later decided to apply to ISB. It wasn’t until January 4th that I realized the Round 2 deadline had passed, leaving me with just one month for the Round 3 application process. If you find yourself in a similar situation, contemplating a last-minute decision without prior planning in Round 2, I encourage you to take a chance. Trust yourself, and you’ll navigate through it successfully.”
Advocating for seizing opportunities, Shino Shibu (PGP Co’24) emphasizes, “Statistics on round-wise acceptance rates are unavailable, making it futile to worry about the likelihood of admission in Round 3. It’s more practical to seize opportunities when they arise. Wasting a year waiting for a potential advantage without guaranteed results is counterproductive. As someone who values seizing opportunities, I applied in R3 and found success. Avoid overanalysing your chances; take decisive action rather than relying on intricate calculations with uncertain outcomes.”
The admissions team at ISB frequently encounters a plethora of intriguing questions from candidates, some of which leave them astounded. One particularly noteworthy query revolves around Round 3, where it is often perceived that ISB shifts its focus exclusively to diversity candidates, given that Rounds 1 and 2 have already witnessed the selection of conventional candidates.
Amit Tyagi, Associate Director of Admissions & Financial Aid at ISB, dispels this notion, stating, “There is no dedicated diversity candidate category at ISB; quotas do not exist for any group. The evaluation process remains uniform for everyone. While diversity quotient may play a role the evaluation process for them is similar to all other candidates. The perception that Round 3 is exclusively for diversity considerations is baseless; it is open to all applicants, and success depends on meeting the established cut-offs.”
Sahil Gupta (PGP Co’24) advises prospective candidates, saying, “Put your best foot forward. ISB is always on the lookout for unique personalities, and I believe every personality is unique. Just focus on bringing that uniqueness to the forefront. Your only concern should be about your admissions and not about the kind of applicants in the pool. Concentrate on showcasing yourself and apply when your application is strongest. That’s the mantra!”
Tania Aggarwal (PGP Co’24) adds, “To truly stand out in your ISB application, introspect and identify the unique aspects of your journey. ISB values individual accomplishments and personal growth more than mere diversity. Highlight what sets you apart, the milestones you’ve achieved, and the challenges you’ve overcome. Showcase your proactive approach to trying new things and pushing boundaries. Tailor your essays to vividly reflect these qualities, emphasizing how they contribute to your identity as a standout individual. Focus on articulating your distinctive experiences and the resilience you’ve demonstrated throughout your journey—this will undoubtedly make your application more compelling.”
Lohitha Reddy (PGP Co’24) concludes, “The diversity that ISB seeks is in personalities rather than profiles, aiming to bring out the best in others and create a more enriching cohort for mutual learning.”
Another prevalent misconception revolves around the belief that individuals who apply in the third round, if successfully selected, are automatically assigned to the Mohali campus.
Shino Shibu (PGP Co’24) shares his perspective, “I’m currently at the Hyderabad Campus and unsure about the process of how the campuses are assigned. I would love to visit the Mohali Campus, especially to witness the sports events. There seems to be scepticism about whether there’s a significant difference in campuses. I don’t think there’s any preference based on profiles or exams; it seems quite random. I’ve spoken to friends at the Mohali Campus, and they share the same sentiment.”
Hailing from Hyderabad, Lohitha Reddy (PGP Co’24) found herself on the other end of the country, “Coming from Hyderabad, I initially aimed for Hyderabad campus but ended up in Mohali. Unexpected, yet it turned out to be the best experience. Both campuses offer a similar learning environment with shared opportunities. You can even spend time on the other campus if you want to experience both. Whether it’s Mohali or Hyderabad, the difference is negligible. Don’t let the location deter you; apply and embrace the journey at ISB.”
Sahil Gupta (PGP Co’24) opted for the Mohali Campus and had his wish fulfilled, “Although it’s not true that ISB gives the Mohali campus to Round 3 candidates, I would recommend taking it. Personally, I opted for Mohali and have never regretted the decision. Dispelling any misconceptions, it’s a great choice. So, if the opportunity arises again, I’d select Mohali without hesitation.”
Adding a touch of humour, Tania Aggarwal (PGP Co’24) playfully comments, “Oh, and by the way, the food is better at Mohali!”

A minimum of 25% and a maximum of up to 100% in tuition fee waivers will be offered in Round 3. In fact, ISB has almost doubled its scholarships in Round 3. All Round 3 applicants are eligible for merit-based and need-based scholarships. In addition to these scholarships, students may receive corporate scholarships and alumni endowments once they join ISB.
Merit Scholarship: By default, everyone who applies to ISB is considered for the merit-based scholarship. The overall application is evaluated based on GMAT/GRE scores, academics, quality of work experience, interview performance, etc.
Need-based scholarships: Applicants whose family income is less than 18 LPA are eligible for need-based scholarships. If you would like to apply for this scholarship, on the scholarship section of the application portal, you are required to select a suitable scholarship. This will enable you to submit a separate essay for the respective need-based scholarship. Family income includes the income/pension of you, your father, your mother, and your spouse (if any). Income proofs for the same need to be submitted.

With over 20 years of research-based experience of stock markets and over 10 years of practical investing experience, he has succeeded in generating returns better than the average stock market benchmark indices. He was formerly registered with SEBI as an Investment Advisor.
Vineet is a Certified Capital Market professional from National Institute of Securities Markets (NISM), a Postgraduate Diploma in Financial Markets from National Institute of Financial Management, has acquired Chief Engineer Certificate of Competency from Maritime & Coastguard Agency, Government of U.K. and has done Marine Engineering from Glasgow College of Nautical Studies, Glasgow University, Scotland.
As part of his professional journey, he has moved from merchant navy job to set up his own business before eventually turning into an individual investor.
“I had an aim of doing something completely at my own freedom. While setting up business was my transition phase towards achieving my aim, I faced a challenge of whether to close my well set business and move towards greater freedom and peace. In 2014 I took the decision of handing over the structured business to my father, and I worked hard to acquire knowledge of the stock market domain to grow as an individual investor.”
He says his decisions have helped him achieve significant freedom, peace and wealth in his personal as well as professional life. This has helped him to spend time with his family at his discretion, and he can use his wealth with a sense of freedom.
Vineet says he is financially retired and is now looking to grow himself beyond an individual investor and wishes to improve his management and leadership skills. He strongly advocates travelling and says he is indebted to his extensive travels for the life lessons he has acquired. He believes in simple living and keeping physically fit is crucial to enjoying life. “On an average, I walk over 10 kilometers each day.”
One must be very clear on the reason for pursuing the programme, Vineet says. One should not expect a miracle immediately after the programme, because nothing can be achieved in the short term. ]]>When Kshiti Kothari, PGPMAXCo’14, enrolled into engineering, she was allotted Mechanical Engineering, over her preferred Electronics Engineering (she, however, got back Electronics in the third semester). Girls in Mechanical engineering, dominated by boys, were an uncommon sight those days. With just another girl to give her company, it was a challenge of sorts. With the challenge came the opportunity for Kshiti to establish her identity. Her already inherent ability to network and connect easily with people helped her grow in confidence. She felt no different from the boys and believed she too could do all that they could. Strengthened by her confidence, she felt more comfortable and made several friends.
Kshiti asserts on the significance of self-confidence and a robust support system as key to women in pursuing higher education and a rewarding career.
Women in professional space come with certain constraints because of which the numbers, high at entry level, decline at higher levels. A reason for the high turnover is a shift in their focus after marriage. Counselling them at every phase to manage their career, therefore, can help their retention at every level. Another mindset that often impedes their ascent is the way women treat their careers. For most, their vocation is just a job, in contrast to their male counterparts who are more aggressively focused and decisive of where they are going.
Another challenge is that women most often assume that quietly doing a great job will fetch them the rewards. They don’t promote themselves, advertise their work, or build relationships. Kshiti has run several initiatives of women enhancement and feels that awareness, self-confidence, and mentoring in these areas can strengthen women and can deliver desirable outcomes.
Most women hesitate in seeking support for apprehensions of appearing weak and vulnerable. Additionally, they doubt if they would be responded to appropriately. A way around these conundrums is to be bold in seeking support; cite a valid reason and no one will hesitate in extending support. Whether it’s about challenges at work or facility required, women don’t ask because they are not informed.
The significance of a good support system in personal life should not be underestimated and the onus to establish it lies upon women. At every stage, the support required would be different, however.
A robust support system comprising family, friends and household helps address distinct demands for women who aspire to go past their traditional roles, take stewardship of businesses or establish an identity for themselves. Women working at home build networks and make certain their support systems are in place, but the same’s not true for working women who are equipped with good education and are financially well off.
Women typically bear a disproportionate amount of responsibility for home and family and it’s no surprise they develop extraordinary multitasking capabilities. If they can do so much, they can very ably put a support system in place too. There have been an instance of a lady student bearing a child while doing her PGPMAX and her family made sure there was no impediment in her attending her classes.

]]>When Maersk was sponsoring education in India, Ujval applied for it and triumphed through a stiff competition. This earned him a Maersk sponsored Marine Engineering from Singapore, post which he was absorbed in the firm’s workforce. He is now destined to travel to Denmark and dedicate himself to curb environmental pollution caused by the container industry.
Why PGPMAX?
Sailing through life with a well-poised career graph, nothing seemed amiss to Ujval. But the need to expand his knowledge of leadership, strategic thinking, and other business functions that would give him a broader business understanding egged him on to stretch beyond his comforts.
