Careers in this field are either in dedicated departments within large companies or, more commonly, within specialist consultancy firms.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;This programme will provide both academic and practical training to assist you in pursuing a career in these exciting professions. Designed in conjunction with leading Public Affairs companies, the Master of Science in Public Affairs and Lobbying includes an integrated internship with a Public Affairs consultancy in either London or Brussels, which will provide graduates with significant advantages to pursue such a career. The course offers a unique combination of advanced academic knowledge and practical experience that will provide graduates with the opportunity to develop a career in public affairs.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;The course is offered on a full-time basis and is taught over two twelve-week terms. Each term comprises a range of modules taught through a programme of formal lectures, directed reading, seminars and, where appropriate, workshops. Students will also attend periodic presentations made by Public Affairs professionals. A dissertation is also written in order to complete the programme&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;The &lt;strong&gt;MBA Public Affairs &amp;amp; Leadership &lt;/strong&gt;is aimed at successful professionals working in companies, associations, NGOs, political parties, agencies or other organisations. They already have experience working in the field of politics and communication; however, they still lack more in-depth knowledge and/or managerial experience. Typical careers for these professionals include consulting positions, generally in a communication field, after completing a humanities or social sciences degree. However, many other career paths and positions can lead to the Public Affairs &amp;amp; Leadership programme. For example, the programme also targets employees of members of the German Federal or State Parliaments, as well as members of the political party structure.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;The MBA programme trains students for managerial roles in political communication at companies and associations, as well as at public affairs and full-service agencies. Graduates of the programme head the corresponding departments and are responsible for communication with the legislative and executive branches. The MBA programme unites precise knowledge of the political system, the political decision-making and legislative processes, and lobbying with in-depth education in communication and management topics as well as economic and managerial skills.&lt;/p&gt;

Also highlights some economic aspects.&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Representation of Interests and Public Affairs&lt;/strong&gt;: This module gives an overview of the various actors involved in lobbying and provides details of processes involved in that area. The students learn about political parties and important political associations, and they become familiar with the wide range of lobbying tools. Altogether, the module combines the skills and knowledge important to a PA manager: factors for success, mechanisms, methods and backgrounds of strategic lobbying. It demonstrates how to be a strong performer in the socio-political sphere.&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Management IV (Corporate Strategy and Marketing): &lt;/strong&gt;Public affairs managers must have a strong working knowledge of many disciplines in their field. The MA EPA defines public affairs as the process of developing and influencing public – European Union – policy. Public affairs is a field closely related to public policy and public administration, and the programme aims to prepare students for a career in European or EU-related public affairs and public service.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;The advanced level of knowledge and skills that a European public affairs professional requires is highly dependent on a solid level of understanding of the relevant academic concepts, theories and research methods. The public affairs profession requires academics who know how to analyse, critically evaluate and research EU policy problems. The policy context in the European Union is complex, and contemporary policy problems transcend national and disciplinary borders. In the public domain of Europe a great variety of institutions and solutions has been established to address these problems. They often reflect country-specific preferences for particular approaches and legal instruments or differences in political or administrative culture or socio-economic conditions. MA EPA graduates have developed the capacity to apply theoretical ideas and transfer academic evaluation into specific policy solutions. MA EPA graduates can contextualise and analyse problems in their context, as well as design, assess and communicate proposed solutions.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;In order to become professionals who can undertake academic research, analyse and critically evaluate policy issues, MA EPA graduates need to be able to understand and use a variety of relevant disciplinary approaches. From the perspectives of political science, law, economics, cultural science and public administration, the programme delves into contemporary policy problems. Students are encouraged to become familiar with national and regional differences within the European territory, and to search out commonalities and paths for integration.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;The MA EPA is unique in its practice-oriented approach. Firstly, the MA EPA is offered in cooperation with the European Institute of Public Administration (EIPA) in Maastricht. EIPA is an organisation that carries out European affairs research and training, mainly for EU Member States, neighbourhood and applicant state civil servants. EIPA staff are directly involved in teaching and programme planning, which ensures that there is a direct link between the ‘classroom’ and the ‘professional world’. Secondly, MA EPA students are exposed to a teaching format using practical assignments derived from the practice of European public affairs, whereby in small international teams, under strict and tight deadlines, students simulate the professional world as much as possible. Such assignments always require students to conduct high-level academic research; MA EPA students require a strong theoretical understanding of the working and functioning of the system of European governance before being able to critically evaluate potential policy solutions. Thirdly, the MA EPA concludes with a 12-week internship, ensuring that all students are provided with the opportunity to gain relevant work experience and the stimulus to critically reflect upon and evaluate their own learning process.&lt;/p&gt;

The Master Programme curriculum was reorganised and changed for the 2012/2013 academic years.&lt;/p&gt;
