Abolishing school fees appears to me to be a sham. There was this lady who came to me to ask for financial assistance because her son is required to join Form 1 in a nearby community secondary school. The cost required to be paid to the school was more than Tzs. 150,000/=. What!!!! I remarked. But when she showed me the list in the joining instructions, I had to support her. It included costs for a plastic bucket, a hand hoe, a ream of printing paper, uniforms, a track suit, a slasher, fee for security guard, fee for the lady cook etc.
