Sigmund and the Sea Monsters is getting a remake

According to Variety magazine, Amazon Studios have signed a deal with Sid and Marty Krofft to produce a pilot for a Sigmund and the Sea Monsters remake. According to the article, the pilot could turn into a regular series, but so far, no release date has been set for the pilot.

Big John, Little John now available on DVD in the US.

Big John, Little John has finally been released on DVD in the US. The show was originally scheduled to be released in the fall of 2009, then pushed back to the spring of 2010, and then it was postponed indefinitely.

As mentioned here, I picked up the UK release a few years back and the shows appeared to be uncut and each episode included an opening preview for each episode, as well as a preview of next episode at the end.

Korg DVD Update

The Korg, 70,ooo BC DVD series set release date is December 11, 2012. You can now preorder it from the Warner Archives here. As with other DVDs from the Archives, these are not going to be sold in stores, just online. The DVDs are MOD (made on demand) and are burned on to recordable discs. However, in at least some cases, the first run of sets are pressed, like the recent Shazam! set.

Korg 70,000 coming to DVD!

It looks like Korg, 70,000 BC is coming to DVD. This video was just posted on Facebook by the Warner Archives, the same company that released Shazam! last month:

Shazam! now available on DVD

Shazam! – The Complete Live Action Series was released on DVD on October 23rd. The set includes every episode of the show, but unfortunately no extras. It does include the three episodes, “The Odd Couple,” “Finders Keepers,” and “Out of Focus,” that guest starred Isis.

The show was released by the Warner Archives, which mean it is not being in sold in stores, but it is available direct and through online retailers like Amazon. It also means that the discs will be MOD, Manufactured on Demand, on DVD-R, instead of the standard, pressed DVDs.

Shazam! is coming to DVD!

Rumors have been going around for awhile that Shazam! was going to be released on DVD and now they can be confirmed.

The schedule for Comic Con has been released and here’s the relevant information on the Warner Archive Collection panel on Friday, July 13th at 3 PM:

Warner Archive Collection: Shazam!— Join ever-informed, fancentric WAC Podcast hosts George Feltenstein, Matthew Patterson, and DW Ferranti as they give fans a look at the upcoming DVD release of the popular 1970s series Shazam! The series’ own Billy Batson, Michael Gray, will be on hand, and an exclusive, limited-edition Shazam! LEGO figure will be awarded to a lucky number of fans in attendance. WAC panelists will also offer sneak peeks of Gene Roddenberry’s “other” TV series, The Lieutenant, and some highlights of WAC’s wildly entertaining upcoming slate of releases. And don’t be surprised if a few unannounced guests appear with the bold shout of a single word! Room 25ABC

No word on the release date, price, or any extras. Since this is going to be released by the Warner Archives Collection, it probably won’t be available in stores, but it should be available through online retailers like Amazon. Look for more updates in the near future.

Lancelot Link back on DVD!

Today, Tuesday, May 29th, Lancelot Link, Secret Chimp is being re-released on DVD.

The new version is being put out by Film Chest, who worked with Lancelot Link producer Allan Sandler and ABC to re-release the show from the original masters. This new release is a 3 disc Collector’s Edition with a behind the scenes documentary including Allan Sandler, producer, Bob Emenegger, the original music director, Diane Bernard’s and Jeff Krulik’s “I Created Lancelot Link” documentary, and Lancelot himself (the original Lancelot has been at the Wildlife WayStation living in retirement).

Way Out Games’ opening

Here’s the opening of Way Out Games, which ran on Saturday mornings on CBS in 1976. The show was hosted by game show veteran Sonny Fox, who had previously hosted the long running children’s series, Wonderama. The series was shot on location at Magic Mountain Amusement Park in Valencia, CA. There were 51 teams, with each state and Puerto Rico getting one team, participating in various physical and comedic events.

The series ran for one year. Shortly after the show premiered, Sonny Fox was made the Vice President of Children’s Programming at NBC.

Space Academy and other Filmation shows back on the air

KTV, the kids and teen television channel, is currently airing an extended retro block in the late afternoon/evening slot, featuring several Filmation series, including Space Academy. Space Academy airs daily at 6:30 EST. The other Filmation shows include two with live action segments, Fat Albert and the Cosby Kids and The Secret Lives of Waldo Kitty, as well as two Archie series, the original series and Archie’s Funhouse.

Other retro shows aired during the block include Gumby, the Mighty Hercules, Mr. Magoo, and Roger Ramjet.
Individual segments of Roger Ramjet and the 1960s Dick Tracy cartoon are frequently shown in between shows. The one other retro live action series is Skippy, the Bush Kangaroo, an Australian series from the late 60s that was produced by some of the same people who later worked on Barrier Reef.

Besides the shows listed above, the channel has showed the animated spin off of the Ghost Busters as well as various Filmation holiday specials, including the Fat Albert Christmas and Easter ones, and the He-Man & She-Ra Christmas special.

Here Comes the Double Deckers out on DVD in the UK

While looking something else up on Amazon UK, I saw that Here Comes the Double Deckers is now available on DVD in the UK. Besides all the episodes, the disc includes interviews with cast members Brinsley Forde (Spring) and Michael Audreson (Brains).

My copy is on order and I will try to post a review once I get and also let everyone know if the DVDs can be played on standard US DVD players like the UK release of Big John, Little John was.
