]]>Pupils are celebrating ‘outstanding’ GCSE success at Cockshut Hill School in Yardley with more learners than ever achieving strong passes in English and Maths.
The school has also seen a significant number of learners progress onto Level 3 courses, apprenticeships and other exciting post-16 destinations.
Highlights include:
Toha achieved an outstanding set of GCSE results, including four Grade 9s, six Grade 8s and one Grade 7 having moved to the UK from Spain shortly before joining Cockshut Hill School in Year 7
Victoria joined from Nigeria, quickly adapted to a new educational environment and immersed herself fully in her studies. Her results included five Grade 8s, two Grade 7s, one Grade 6 and one Grade 5
Mohammed secured nine Grade 9s and one Grade 8 and hopes to continue his studies at King Edward VI Camp Hill School for Boys Sixth Form, where he plans to study A Levels in Mathematics, Chemistry and Computer Science.

The session, which was made possible thanks to sponsorship by Pantene, brought poetry to life, full of live performances, interactive activities, and creative exploration. The theme of the session was the power of hair, and the group were encouraged to experiment with words, rhythms, and imagery.
Working in teams, learners wrote and performed their own poems, showcasing not only their literacy skills but also remarkable confidence and resilience. SPOZ’s dynamic presence and guidance ensured a fun and memorable experience, leaving students motivated and inspired.
A local ‘Brummie Poet,’ SPOZ is an award-winning performance poet, singer-songwriter, filmmaker, and playwright, and he also served as poet-in-residence at Birmingham City FC. He previously held the title of Birmingham’s Poet Laureate and was one of six ‘Bards of Brum’ featured in the 2022 Commonwealth Games Opening Ceremony.

]]>Local Learners Achieve Success through Endeavour
Summit Learning Trust is celebrating brilliant GCSE exam results for learners across its secondary schools today (21st August); Cockshut Hill School, Lyndon School and Ninestiles, an Academy.
Teenagers across the country sat their exams in May and June and have been eagerly awaiting their results. At Summit Learning Trust, staff went above and beyond to ensure students were thoroughly prepared and felt confident walking into every exam.
At Lyndon School there were lots of great achievements including the following.
Olivia Cardin: Olivia has been exploring careers in journalism and digital marketing. She completed her work experience within a marketing agency.

Michael Lok: Michael has been exploring careers in the fields of business and mathematics. He completed his work experience in a religious setting, focussed on business administration. Michael was involved in learner leadership as Deputy Head Prefect. He is a keen writer, attending the Lyndon Creative Writing Club throughout Year 10, and entering multiple competitions, achieving a Principal’s Award for his effort and winning the KS3+ First Prize for his poem “Bee-cause of You” in the ‘Animals that Amaze Us’ category of the Solihull Children’s Book Group Poetry and Art Competition.

This year Lyndon School received national recognition after being named a Bronze Winner in the prestigious 2025 Pearson National Teaching Awards. The school was honoured in the category of “Making a Difference – Secondary School of the Year”, a reflection of the school’s unwavering commitment to changing lives through education and creating lasting impact for learners, staff members, and the wider community.
Over at Cockshut Hill School there were also some brilliant results.
Adam Zang joined Cockshut Hill School at the beginning of KS4. He settled in exceptionally well and went on to achieve an excellent set of results. 7 grades 7-9 including English and Mathematics and 10 grades 6-9.
Hedaya Ghadamsi joined Cockshut Hill at the beginning of year 7 and has spent her 5 secondary education years there. She is leaving with an incredible set of results including 3 grade 9’s and 6 grade 8’s.
The principal at Cockshut Hill School, Jason Bridges, is retiring at the end of this academic year but his tenure has gone out with a bang after he attended His Majesty The King’s garden party at Buckingham Palace at an event for individuals across the country thanking them for their exceptional contributions to public service, education, and community leadership.
At Ninestiles, an Academy, they were delighted to see excellent results across a wide range of subjects. It was particularly pleasing to see their highest ever exam results in the English Baccalaureate with significant gains in this most academic measure. They have seen a 20% increase in learners achieving a strong pass in Spanish. The number of learners achieving the prestigious grade 9 in maths has increased this year as well. Another fantastic achievement is the increased number of learners receiving grade 7 and above in everything at the end of year 11, this year 8 of their cohort have reached this threshold. For disadvantaged groups, attainment is up for Pupil Premium learners, students with an EHCP and learners with SEND support.
Twins Raul and Dilan Chapaneri were a double threat in their exam results with the amazing outcomes of 19 grades at 7 and above including 4 grade 9s.
Mason Black joined Ninestiles in their resource base having overcome a brain tumour. After a brilliant year as Deputy Head Boy he achieved strong passes in Maths, English and Science.
Ninestiles Head Girl Lily Weston-Carlin achieved a strong set of results, passing the EBACC with 4 grade 7s.
Sana Farooq achieved a brilliant set of results with 3 grade 9s, 3 grade 8s and 2 grade 7s.
Fayzan Asif followed in the family footsteps of his successful older brother by achieving 4 grade 9, 4 grade 8 and 1 grade 7.
Ninestiles, an Academy, have also been celebrating their Tes Award win this year. The Tes Awards, which have been dubbed the ‘Oscars of Education’ are an annual celebration showcasing the achievements of staff and schools, and Ninestiles are the 2025 winner of the Inclusive School of the Year award.
The Summit Learning Trust family is currently made up of three secondary schools, five primary schools and a sixth form college educating around 8000 learners. All Summit Learning Trust schools are located in the Birmingham and Solihull areas.

On Wednesday the 5th of June Summit Learning Trust united its schools and college across the West Midlands in a powerful collective effort to mark World Environment Day, aligning with the global theme of “Land Restoration, Desertification, and Drought Resilience,” hosted this year by Jeju Province, South Korea. Jeju’s leadership in tackling plastic pollution resonates strongly with Summit’s own ambitious climate goals.
Summit Learning Trust is proud to be at the forefront of sustainability in education. With 7%of the UK’s carbon emissions stemming from the public sector, the trust is actively working to reduce its environmental footprint by embracing energy efficient solutions, boosting recycling rates, and embedding sustainability across all its operations.
Among the trust’s flagship initiatives is the TREAD Lightly programme, encouraging schools to Turn off, Reduce use, be Energy efficient, use Alternative sources, and Do something. This practical framework empowers learners to take real climate action in their communities and beyond. TREAD Lightly has been developed by the Education Group that is part of the West Midlands Lieutenancy, which encourages community projects that benefit the region as well as supporting The King and his many benevolent interests.
One of the most exciting sustainability milestones this year is the opening of the Turvey Building at Solihull Sixth Form College. Opened in January, this state-of-the-art building is net-zero in operation and features air source heat pumps, solar panels, LED lighting, and natural ventilation, a physical manifestation of Summit’s commitment to decarbonising education.
Across Summit schools, learners are actively driving sustainability. At Ninestiles, an Academy, over half a million single-use plastic bottles have been eliminated. Across all campuses, electric vehicle chargers are in place with more being installed in three sites over the recent school break, and waste is separated after collection to support recycling efforts, with 99% of waste from the trust’s schools going through a recycling programme. LED lights have also been installed across Summit schools with 160,000kW of hours saved this year from their energy consumption. The trust have also installed 1300 solar panels installed, saving £262,700 year to date.
Meanwhile, Lyndon School’s Climate Action Group has become a beacon of youth leadership in sustainability with learners doing everything from organising litter picks and campaigns on waste reduction to launching a photography competition to raise awareness about biodiversity.
Lyndon learners have also represented countries in a Mock COP29 conference, discussed policy with the local council, and completed a climate action survey to guide future school policy.
Summit Learning Trust is aligning its strategy with the government’s goal of Net Zero by 2050, supported by the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero and the Department for Education. Through innovation, collaboration, and a passionate commitment to youth led change, Summit is determined to lead the way for a better future for all.
