An innovative portable measurement solution has been added at Chesterfield Tool & Engineering.
Chesterfield Tool has purchased a FaroArm Edge Portable CMM. The FaroArm is a portable coordinate measuring machine (CMM) that allows manufacturers easy verification of product quality by performing 3D inspections, tool certifications, CAD comparison, dimensional analysis, reverse engineering, and more. The all-new FARO Edge is the most advanced, state-of-the-art FaroArm ever produced.
Data collected with the FaroArm can be downloaded into existing models or used to generate solid models. Now precise measurement can be taken from equipment and machinery in the field. Chesterfield Tool recently won a purchase order, the scope being to manufacture and assembly to fit into an existing test stand. Using the FaroArm, we were able to validate fore and aft assemblies’ locations so that our design dimensions would handshake with these other assemblies. Our client was pleased in knowing that hard number dimensions were available to validate their test stand set-up.

]]>The Okdamoto ACC-DX is a great compliment to Chesterfield Tool & Engineering’s grinding department. Chesterfield Tool has O.D. and I. D. grinding as well as Surface Grinding and Jig Grinding. Precision grind of shafts always require demagnetizing. Chesterfield Tool can demagnetize parts that can fit within a 13” x 16” window. We validate de-magnetism with a Gauss meter.

]]>Chesterfield Tool has purchased a large Haas Machining Center, Model VF-11 to complement their inventory of large milling machines. The Haas machine has 10’ of travel and this has been most useful on large projects over the last year.
The VF-11 is a 30 HP machine with a 24-place, side mount tool changer. Chesterfield Tool has been using this machine for large plate work, large 3D contouring and precision hole placement/jig borer type of work.

]]>Gun drilling is the deep hole drilling process that utilizes a long, thin cutting tool to produce holes in metal at high depth-to-diameter ratios. Gun drilling is effective in diameters from 1 – 50 [0.04 – 2.00 in]. A gun drill tool differs from a conventional twist drill by its unique head geometry; a standard gun drill has a single effective cutting edge that forms and removes chips,as it is hydraulically fed into a workpiece.
