A New Year

Happy New Year all! I have added some old pictures from this last year. I know there are still more pictures to add, I just have to find them. I also have some new height/weight stats to add for Rowan and Liam. I just have to find them as well. Can you tell I need to organize a bit. Well, we have all made it to 2010 in health and happiness. I am officially a graduate student at University of Illinois Springfield in Computer Science, Rowan is officially a kindergartner, Liam goes to daycare part time, and David's upper management continues to see how much they can change and throw at their project while making demands that it all be done sooner. So life is keeping us busy.

So the website has finally been updated. Pictures have been updated from August 2008 through February 2009. If you are curious be sure to go through all the albums, there have been updates everywhere. I have posted updates on Rowan and Liam's pages to include their most recent information. Tooth Fairy Alert

Rowan has realized that one of his teeth has started to come loose. According to the dentist it will probably will stay in for another 6 to 9 months (if he doesn't play with it too much). Anyone want to lay bets on whether or not he will play with it? (didn't we all though). I guess this just means that we have to prepare for the arrival of the tooth fairy.

Rowan's reading and writing are really starting to improve. His teachers keep telling us how well he has been doing. He often comes home with achievement badges (for hard working, paying attention, helping to clean up, etc..). His teachers are already talking about how much they are going to miss him when he starts kindergarten. Speaking of which, we have registered for kindergarten. We will hopefully know by the end of April which kindergarten he has gotten into. Our first choice is the school closest to us called Barkstall. It is a balanced calendar school so if he gets in classes start in July.

Rowan loves his new swimming classes. He is learning how to front float, back float, freestyle, and back stroke. Of course he made new friends in class right away. I guess I don't have to worry about him making new friends in new situations. He takes after his father in that.

Of course all is not perfect on the Rowan front (when is it ever). He likes to get up and watch TV in the morning when he knows he is not allowed. This often leads to his TV privileges being revoked all together for a couple of days. He really loves to see just how far he can push things. Then he gets really upset when the consequences hit. Though as far as Rowan goes, what else is new.....

His new favorite show is the Electric Company. He loves to watch it, go to their website, play the games there, etc... Of the shows he watches this at least is one of the better ones.

Liam has been walking since December, but really started to get the hang of it in January. Since then nothing seems to be safe. If he can reach it (and he reach seems to be increasing daily), he will open it, play with it, rip it apart, etc... The edges of the kitchen counter are no longer safe. If I cease to pay attention for a minute, invariably the next thing out of my mouth is, "Liam what have you gotten into now?". I fear it is just a matter of time before he starts trying to climb to the top of the refrigerator. ack!

He is active, curious, loves to be tickled, go for walks (and be chased), play with anything that has buttons (especially phones and computer keyboards), look at books, and pretty much anything that doesn't require sitting still.

We started swim classes a couple of weeks ago. Mostly at this stage we are getting used to being in the pool. The skill that we work on in class are kicking, blowing bubbles, front floating, back floating, going under water, and getting into the pool. David and I switch off weeks on who gets to get in the water with Liam. The last week of his first swim session, we got to go down the big water slide at the pool. Liam loved it, and I had fun too.

Today for the first time, Liam gave me a kiss after I prompted for a kiss (instead of me just giving him kisses). Needless to say I am still smiling about it.

So it might not come as a suprise to anyone who has actually met Rowan, but two Wednesdays ago (July 23rd) Rowan while running at pre-school fell and fractured his clavicle. Now there is not much they can do for that, so Rowan walked around for about a week holding his right arm to his chest. Of course now he feels fine and is trying to get all rambunctious, but he still need to be careful at least until the coming Wednesday (doctor's orders). I keep trying to explain to him that if he falls on that arm again he could easily reinjure himself, but it doesn't stck (no surprise there).

On a brighter note, Rowan continues to get better at his writing and reading. He loves doing his activity books and his new hundred piece puzzles.

Well, Liam has finally started to take off. He has been crawling/rocking/rolling around for about 2 weeks but has now graduated to full time crawling. Don't turn your head or you might miss him. He still does not seem to have much interest in pulling himself up, but I am sure he will get there in his own time. He is able to stand on his own if he is holding on to something (i.e. a person/couch/crib rails). I think he is more interested in crawling and sitting up now that he has gotten the hang of it.

Rowan still is number one at making him laugh. Of course his most favorite thing is when Rowan makes a fake burping noise at him. I love to hear the laugh, but the burping noise, not so much.

Liam is mostly eating table food now. He can't get enough of his morning bananas. He even loves to eat plain black beans and mixed frozen veggies. They are the perfect texture since he still only has his two middle bottom teeth. He loves to eat whatever is on my plate and won't be satisfied with puffs once dinner is served.

Liam loves to roll himself all over the room. He has finally started to get on his hands and knees. He looks like he wants to crawl, but hasn't quite there yet. He is eating soft and squishable table food. He only has his two bottom teeth, so eating anything that needs to be chewed to much is right out.

Although Liam was scheduled to be born on the 12th by c-section, he insisted upon coming early. The best laid plans were laid to waste and Liam found he could not wait for his Nana and Aunt Alyse to be there for the birth. Luckily his Papa and Uncle Evan were willing to drive down to Champaign on no notice to bring them down ahead of schedule.
Rowan enjoys making his brother laugh. We first heard his laugh at dinner (mid-December) when Rowan displayed typical 4 year old behavior. Liam apparently thought it was hysterical.
This last week (March 15ish 2008) Liam has started sitting up by himself. He also has been eating solid food for a little over a month. He likes to roll over from his tummy to his back, but has not yet mastered rolling from his back to his stomach. He has a great smile and laugh which charms everyone he meets. I fear once he starts to crawl I will be running after him all day long.

I took my first steps September 28, 2004 and I am getting really good at walking
As of April 2005, I walk and I talk, but my parents mostly don't understand me. I love playing at the park and going for walks.
As of August 2007, I weight approximately 36 lbs and am 38 inches tall and I am very independent minded. I love playing with the neighbors and chasing Daddy around the house.
March 2008: Rowan says he loves to play with his lego plane, ride his bicycle, rollerskate, run around the house (and around and around), play his board/card games, and watch the Backyardigans and Go, Diego, Go. He also can't wait for Liam to get big enough to play with. He loves to give Liam big smiles and to make him laugh. His favorite movie is The Incredibles. Rowan has a untamable cowlic amist his bangs which he gets from his father. This makes getting a hair cut a challenge.
