About Andrew Palmberg – Graduated in May 2026 with his BS in Aerospace Engineering, Andrew’s passion for aerospace is evident at an early age and through his engagement with various design competitions during his academic career. In high school, Andrew participated in ERAU’s Real World Design Challenge, where his student team created conceptual designs of Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) and VTOL vehicles that would solve real world problems – his team placed 1st that year. Later as an undergraduate, Andrew led ERAU’s AIAA DBF team as a project officer, applying his leadership and engineering knowledge to build a competition aircraft. Now, Andrew has completed his summer internship at Honeywell Aerospace, where he supported the development of VTOL air taxis that will be debuted at the 2028 LA Olympics.
About Aman Chandak – Graduating from ASU in May 2026, Aman now holds a BS in Aerospace Engineering, specializing in Avionics, from University of Petroleum and Energy Studies/INDIA and a MS in Robotics and Autonomous Systems. Aman demonstrated an extensive amount of experience contributing to the communities in aerospace, academics, and society. While in school, Aman used his avionics knowledge to build remotely piloted vehicles and solar-powered unmanned aerial vehicles at his Aeroclub – he later was promoted to the club’s technical team and helped mentor the other young engineering members. Aman was also a research student at ASU’s Robotics and Intelligent SystEms (RISE) Lab under the supervision of Prof. Wenlong Zhang, where Aman would develop a 5G localized network signals system for autonomous UAV navigation – Aman would later present his research findings at the AIAA SciTech Forum 2026. Aman gained working experience as a UAV Engineer at Aerial IQ India, where he designed GNSS (GPS)-denied autonomous drone systems for the local police force that would later become the nation’s first tethered drone to be commercialized.
The Vertical Flight Society, Arizona Chapter, is proud to present the 2026-2027 Dr. Friedrich Straub Memorial Scholarship campaign. This merit-based, competitive scholarship is available to Undergraduate and Graduate students who are attending an engineering-accredited college in Arizona.
