]]>In the NaLi vs NaLu case, Hiro has stated on many occasions that he personally loves NaLu, and Lisanna was never supposed to return in his original idea. Only after being pushed to bring her back did he do so. Seeing as he has altered the original story line the bare minimal to have Lisanna included there is slim to no chance that Lisanna will end up with Natsu, or any other main character.
The only reason I personally like her is for the sake of the Strauss siblings dynamic it's brought to the anime and manga. If not for that, she may as well be little more than a background character.

]]>You say that it is unrealistic for any of Jonathan's friends to fall for Dio's lies. Sure I would agree to this as well but then again, Araki is the type to do his research on cultures before writing stories revolving around them. Maybe it is unrealistic to any of us in this day and age but British people were more superstitious back in the 1800's and if you have this one guy who was capable of doing all these great things, then it wouldn't be out of the question for the general public to express interest of some sort towards him. So, by this, I can't call Dio's plan completely unrealistic if I don't know anything about British culture and superstition in the 1800's.
As for the scene with Erina ignoring Jonathan out of guilt after being kissed by Dio, that was more of a status issue than anything. I know that today's women wouldn't take a inadvertent kiss lying down but things were different back then. If a British woman was to be kissed inadvertently by a man who she despises, She could end up feeling guilty over it. I'm not trying to be offensive here, I'm just pointing out different mindsets and beliefs that took place back then. Feel free to clarify anything if I'm wrong.

]]>I never dreamed I'd be able to enjoy watching a cartoon show that my little sister and I both can enjoy. What makes it more ironic is that I introduced this show to her.
The Mane Six of Twilight Sparkle, Applejack, Rainbow Dash, Pinkie Pie, Rarity, and Fluttershy are a great cast along with the supporting cast and even the background characters (the ones who you would see but they rarely have a speaking role) all have fans in one way or another.
There is a lot for me to say about My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic and one of them is this: Watch a few episodes and you will be hooked. What started as an curious look for me became a great past-time. There has never been a show I could sit down to re-watch the episodes all over again. Until this came along. Now I shan't ever say Saturdays are boring.

]]>But a movie?? I agree with the previous answer, it would need to be a huge big budget movie with someone making it who loved the books to make it work. With a few exceptions book to movie abductions just don't work in my opinion anyway. I feel the same about The Dark Tower series by King. As much as i would love to see both of these things work on the big screen i just feel i'm going to be disappointed, no matter what they do its not going to live up to the way i've be picturing it while im reading the books.
]]>I'm… skeptical of whether or not a movie would do the books justice. They rarely, rarely do. But I'm also forgiving. I'd love to see the books adapted to screen well.
But I'm also optimistic.
The bits in Mistborn that keep me coming back are the action scenes. I find that I enjoy the way Brandon writes action because he makes it almost cinematic. As I read the text, in my minds eye I'm watching the action, as if it were happening in front of me. So I think that the action would translate well.
It would be a shame to see some of the other stuff go… I can see that we may need to lose a lot of the scholarly stuff, with the logbook and Kwaan's inscription. I think that we'd still have a mention, but the detail would go. Which means that the subtlety of the alteration of the words would be lost, as well as the interesting character changes in Vin as she learns to take up research.
But… On balance, I have a cautious optimism. I'd be keen to see that movie.
Ellen Paige… Hm. I think I can see that working for Vin. The trick there would be the timing. Ellen works because Vin is supposed to look very young. If the movie happens at all, it would probably be a few years in the making. Too long, and Ellen may not be able to pull it off.
But then again, Ellen still looks eternally young… If the movie took too long for that, I suppose that by then Chloë Grace Moretz would be old enough to fill the role.
What about Kelsier? Any thoughts? Please, anyone but Johnny Depp. Johnny is amazing, but I think he looks entirely wrong for Kelsier.

]]>I've found that Japan isn't exactly the most enlightened when it comes to sexual relations and gender equality. From what I understand there is still very much a "Me man, you woman, you cook dinner for me. Stay in kitchen until sexing time" attitude among many of them.
Of course you can't generalize, but it's a very prevalent attitude I've found, and not even just in Japan, I've noticed similar attitudes among the Korean people I've worked with in the past.
And heaven forbid if your sexuality is deviant from the norm.
Persona has already shown that it's not taking itself very seriously, so I don't expect the most insightful commentary on the topic. And really, I don't go to anime for that in the first place. It's either gay idolization, or gay jokes, but never anything thoughtful said about the topic.

And yet the Protag and the women will tolerate this, because it's typical heterosexual male chauvinistic bullshittery."

But it was particularly surprising (and disappointing) to see Yukiko Amagi, who is basically presented as a sweet, likable girl who's thoughtful and considerate and not excessively prone to initiate violence suddenly decide that she too has had enough of Shadow Kanji.

]]>Remember, the strategy employed by the P4 characters at this point of the game was to attempt to convince the affected character to accept their shadow before the denial happened, therefore avoiding a fight outright. I'm reasonably certain that at no point in the game did the P4 cast attack the pre-transformation version of a Shadow, particularly when this version of the shadow did nothing to merit their anger except be gay.
And let's not forget that the only fault or foible of pre-transformation Shadow Kanji was that he was too gay for Yosuke and Protag to apparently handle. Shadow Kanji did not constitute a physical threat to the Persona 4 cast at this juncture. He did not physically attack them. He did not threaten to hurt or kill them.
…He just was gay.
And being gay, in and of itself, was totally enough to send Yosuke and Protag into a primordial rage. "
But that pales in comparison to Protag's single worst line (said in Episode Eight, we'll get there,) and it also pales in comparison to…
* The Protag and Yosuke expressing willingness, at a moment's notice, to attack and attempt to kill Kanji's shadow just because Kanji's Shadow makes them feel uncomfortable because Kanji's Shadow is totally gay and hitting on them.
Let's get a few things straight:
At this stage of the storyline, Protag and Yosuke have seen and fought other shadow versions of characters before. They know that shadow versions of characters are absolutely harmless in their original state and remain harmless until the person in question denies them, at which point the shadows transform into a violent version that does in fact start to destroy things. "
So, the way I thought Episode Seven should have gone was the way my game's playthrough essentially went: Yosuke says stupid homophobic shit, the Main Character and the girls scold Yosuke for being so self-centered when Kanji's life is at risk, the Protag acts like the supportive, all-around awesome person he is (and the awesome person that the game and the anime portray him as and that the other characters believe him to be; that is important), Kanji accepts his shadow, everyone wins!
So it was exceptionally disappointing when the Protag decided to join the Homophobia Train. And not just with one or two "You feel mild trepidation entering this dungeon with the wacky sauna theme…" messages that the game gave. Merely feeling fear upon entering a dungeon with shadows trying to kill you, even if that fear is exacerbated somewhat by some irrational and brazenly idiotic "What if the shadows are gay and try to rape me?" thought is one thing, but it's what the Protag actually says when he opens his mouth that differentiates the game's Protagonist from the anime's douche.

]]>By the way, Brina Palencia has a HUGE range, as you should (and may or may not) know. She can do VERY deep, practically boyish voices (if you've ever seen the Black Butler dub, she does the voice of Ciel). She can do flat, robotic voices, too; in fact, she's the current voice of Rei in the new Evangelion movies. So Juvia cannot be a more perfect role for her.
And if you're thinking about whether there will be multi-casting, note it will be kept at a minimum for the time being.

]]>The subbed equivalent of "Now I've got a fire in my belly" is "Now that I've eaten, I feel re-energized." Meaning he's re-energized by the fire he's eaten and is now in his belly. And trust me, reading the subbed version aloud sounds pretty tacky, so I'm glad they changed it.
"I'm fired up" in the dub really is just that.
]]>Like I said, if they chose one girl for the protag to end up with, then all the players who went with a different girl will be pissed, and if they go without choosing a girl, then all the viewers who played the game will be pissed, because they developed an attachement for a specific girl in the game and will feel cheated when the anime doesn't adress that.
Still, I'm going to remain cautiously interested in where the show goes.
]]>But my point is I liked the game because I was forging my own relationships with the characters, and because those relationships were so strong (yes, that's sort of got a double meaning, because relationships are how the game advances). So taking that out and writing a story for it means it has no meaning. And considering our protag in the anime is so stale, it hits the middle ground where people who played the game won't really enjoy it (it isn't their story they invested 100+ hours into) and fans of anime won't enjoy it (it's stale).
But hey, animated Chie and Naniko are always appreciated. And Kanji.

It is very close, the simultaneous release of manga that Viz is trying to do for the states. Though it is only a week off, this is far better than being behind several months. We cannot win everything but its better to take the best deal out there than to wait for the perfect one.

From what I've heard of the Trigun manga it's quite a bit darker than the anime, but goes into a lot more detail about a lot of things the anime leaves out, and develops Knives more as a villain. Which would be pretty neat to read about.
]]>The Trigun manga is rather interesting–the art style is quite gritty for a shounen, I think. The action can be SO chaotic though that it's a bit hard to follow at times. Anime was good, and I'm looking forward to the movie coming out soon.
I have read some of Yotsuba, and I'm always meaning to read more. I own the first volume at least.
I've never read Cromartie, but the anime is hilarious. It's got a great dub, which is good because many of the jokes rely on sudden, brief reactions. School Rumble has a good dub too, and I think the whole series (or at least the first season) is on Hulu. I've only seen the first season. I know all of Ramen Fighter Miki is on Hulu though, which I think is basically DBZ meets Azumanga Daioh. Or perhaps DBZ Abridged meets Azumanga Daioh. It's pretty obscure, but hilarious (IMO).
Of all my suggestions I think you'd especially like Scryed though, if you can find a way to watch that dubbed. (It's one of those rare cases of a melodramatic English dub fitting quite perfectly for the characters.) It's a very shounen show, but has a pretty clever look at the "chaos vs order" theme.

]]>I haven't read any of the shonen series you've mentioned, but I am looking into reading Death Note. It's on my list as soon as I have the money to buy the volumes, though I could just get them from the library. From the skimming I've done I think I'll enjoy it.
Since I enjoyed the Trigun anime I've considered reading the manga, but that's still a bit in the future. Though I suppose it is one of those series that needs to be read to be truly manga literate. I've heard of the other three, but dunno if I'll get around to reading them. All depends on if I can get my hands on copies of them (I don't like reading online so much anymore).
And your comedies are straight on. I keep thinking i need to watch Cromartie High School, I've read a few chapters and thought they were hilarious. Azumanga Daioh is one of my favorite comedies ever, I recommend Yotsuba if you haven't read it yet. I've got School Rumble open in one of my browser tabs. I've got a list of anime that I'm going to watch, and along with the Slayers series that's one of the ones I want to try out. Figure that if there are so many available legally online I should take advantage of them. And I've hear do Ramen Fighter Miki, but not that much

]]>Have you read Apocalypse Meow, on which this is based? ADV Manga published it back in the day, and it's weirdly awesome. The original series focused on the Vietnam War, however, and included lengthy sidebars about weapons, terrain, and troop movements. I bought all three volumes off of eBay for about $9.00, and was glad for the investment.

I have a bad habit of trying to insert romance in series where it doesn't belong, so I've been a little more judicious about it recently. 😛
