Beets and Beans: Living and Dying with Hospice attempts to dispel some myths about what it means to work with a Hospice provider. This half-hour documentary interweaves the rich journeys of patients, caregivers, and family members as their lives are touched by hospice services. Those narratives show the audience how our participants are changed by time and experience. The story of Hospice is everyone’s story.

Filmed in Ithaca New York and Seattle Washington, this half-hour documentary features a divers cast of all ages interviewed in their homes or hospice settings. Moving and credible interviews supported by true-life events show that the hospice movement can revolutionize our views of dying.

Both of producer Sue Perlgut’s parents were patients of a hospice program and her personal experience led her to tell the story of how hospice can bring peace and dignity to all at the end of life.

This one-woman dramatic piece is about friendship, its loss and about what we learn when we lose something most dear. It’s about how Hospice provide friends with a quality of end-of-life experience. It is also about women’s friendships and death

Frequently Asked Questions

Am I too old to strength train?
The ability to strength train is not based on chronological age. A person, of any age, can strength train. I have people in my classes who are in their 90s. Beginning at the age of 30, if we don’t exercise, we loose about a pound of muscle per year. That’s 10 pounds of muscle a decade! By adding strength training to your exercise routine, you will maintain your muscle mass or even add to it as you age.

Will I get bulky muscles?

No. In order to get bulky muscles, you would need to use very heavy weights and work out for much longer than this DVD. If you are a woman, you won’t have enough of the male hormone, testosterone to build bulky muscles easily. What you will get from this DVD is nicely toned, stronger muscles, and more energy throughout the day.

How long will it take to see the effects of strength training?
Most people will be able to see the effects of strength training within 4 to 6 weeks. And, you will feel better and have more energy after the first workout.

Testimonials

I love this strength training class and exercise routine:

  • It helps me feel independent. (age 91)
  • Class makes me feel good mentally and physically. (age 72)
  • It is a fun way to exercise. (age 63)
  • It makes me feel I can really lift heavy things again. (age 75)
