NYC Project Revealed: MASQUERADE

Alia Tracy — Wed, 13 Aug 2025 07:49:30 +0000

I am incredibly excited to finally announce that my special NYC commission project is for MASQUERADE, the new fully immersive theatre experience created by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tony-award-winning director Diane Paulus, based on Webber’s world-famous musical Phantom of the Opera. My new work entitled “The Phantom”, commissioned by the team behind Masquerade, was a thrill to create, and it is an honour to contribute to the canon of this beloved musical.

“The Phantom”

As described on andrewlloydwebber.com: “Masquerade will take audiences inside, behind-the-scenes, and closer than ever before to the strange affair of The Phantom of the Opera – a mystery never fully explained. From the highest rooftop balconies to the subterranean lair deep below the Opera Populaire at 218 West 57th St, guests will be invited to experience the music of the night and “a little illumination,” more intimately than ever before as they are invited to “dress extravagantly” and “hide your face” as they move through the building.”

“The Phantom” will be displayed in a TBD location associated with the production. Check out this very special automaton in action on my YouTube channel, click on the image below, or scroll up to find it in my website gallery!

“The Phantom” – details

Masquerade opened on August 12 and runs through October 19, 2025. More about this nearly sold out theatre experience can be found at the official site here.

I was honoured to be one of the 27 artists whose work was featured in the Sculptors’ Society of BC’s 50th Anniversary exhibition, which was held at the Pendulum Gallery in the HSBC building atrium lobby, downtown Vancouver in 2024. A diverse range of artistic techniques and fabrication processes was showcased in the creations of sculptures in ceramics, bronze, wood, stone, metal and mixed-media.

The Sculptors’ Society of BC is a non-profit organization and registered charity of professional sculptors dedicated to promoting sculpture in British Columbia. Visit ssbc.ca for more information about this organization.
