This multifunctional didactic set is a good support for teaching, physical activities and play. It inspires teachers and students to come up with new ways of using it.

The Play and Learn Set is a response to the needs of contemporary pedagogics. It is intended for the lower primary school grades. It consists of boards that come in several shapes, thick and thin sticks, and spheres. The spheres have holes along the three main axes plus another four, and can be combined with the thin sticks to create almost all geometric shapes and structures. The thin sticks can be bent and "memorise" the bent position. The ends of thick sticks have tongues and grooves so they can be connected to one another, or to thin sticks and spheres. Although they can bend, they return to their original form. One side of the boards features holes where sticks can fit, while the other is painted with blackboard paint. They are strong and insulating so they can be used as floor mats for sitting. The combinations of these elements can be used for teaching (learning letters, syllables, addition and subtraction, geometric figures and solids...), as a medium for developing creativity (combinatorics, construction, creating games and new ways to use the set) and as an incentive for physical activity (motor skills, patience, team spirit...). The options provided by the set will grow with the creativity of its users.

The Mycelium Matrix makes the invisible visible. It takes mycelium filaments, which are invisible to the naked eye, and presents them as various textures brought forth through the research of mycelium-based composites, materials grown from the vegetative part of mushrooms (mycelium) on agricultural waste such as sawdust or straw (substrate).

The aim for the installation is to present mycelium-based composites as materials with particular aesthetics, rich textures and organic character. Ranging from a velvety white overlay to light-yellow shades and rough substrate textures enmeshed with an almost invisible mycelium matrix, the panels offer a rich visual and tactile experience.

Since mycelium-based composites are materials that grow, their final properties and appearance depend on multiple factors, such as mushroom species, substrate, temperature and humidity, growth duration and conditions during the final growing phase. This results in a wide variety of colours and textures of this natural material.

The installation is designed with equal wall panels and, due to the varied material composition and treatment, looks like an explosion of variety that originates from unified principles. In addition to its aesthetic qualities, the installation aims to encourage one to get to know other properties of mycelium-based composites, such as biodegradability and compostability, thermal insulation and soundproofing, and the ability to take on simple and complex forms.

With all that in mind, it is no wonder that mycelium-based composites are becoming increasingly popular in various design fields or that they are equally interesting to professionals and designers (industrial designers, fashion designers, interior designers, architects…), as well as to ecologically minded individuals, companies, civic associations and researchers.

The Mycelium Matrix installation is a result of interdisciplinary collaboration, long days in the lab, practical design research, and persistent trial and error. It also stems from letting go of total control over design results and, instead, joyful acceptance of the mycelium matrix as a co-creator, in line with the more-than-human approach to design.

“Veljko Armano Linta has devised notebooks in which, as in ring files, it is possible to insert various pieces of already used paper – old bills, envelopes, paper napkins, bits of packaging, and on them, on the free space that is left, write new things down. This author is calling upon users to become aware and re-examine their attitude to paper and to habits and notions about desirable and attractive design.

Is the uniform, even appearance of paper in some notebook or album something positive, or can we find in the diversity of paper already used once a source of inspiration or beauty or perhaps a challenge to build upon them in semantic and formal terms, with our interventions, in text or drawing.

Does our bias in favour of paper that has a uniform appearance stem from fear of the unpredictable and the different – can we, quite to the contrary, find in the diversity of papers with respect to texture, colour, thickness, rigidity, greater of lesser transparency, a source of beauty, can we develop a sensibility for their aesthetic and expressive quality? Is not this diversity immanent to the function of the natural world?

In the work of Veljko Armano Linta, design has a metaphysical dimension; he includes a certain understanding of Nature and sees his design as a kind of extension of the same natural Principle.”

“Ana Armano Linta has thought up an easy chair made out of old newspapers. She has sequenced the 365 issues printed in a year on a bent metal sub-structure and result is a strong curved volume in which the papers are suggested only by the front and the last pages seen at the beginning and end of this sequence.

But the newspaper association is retained because the author has wanted to induce thinking about the passage of time, the ephemeral and the lasting, the role of information in contemporary life and recycling as material and immaterial act.”

By linking the nails in a particular sequence, one forms lines that seem to be curved. Additionally, the NIT board helps develop fine motor skills and creativity, and is predominantly made of wood.

How did we turn the concrete “bathtub”, i.e. our balcony, into a pleasant place for relaxing and socialising?

The presence of trees, a pleasant view, sunshine from the south and the west: A perfect invitation to spend time on the balcony, especially in the spring and autumn. But the balcony, sized 120x200cm, seemed like a concrete bathtub. If you sit on a chair, it’s not comfortable. A single recliner would take up the whole space. It would be great to sit on the floor, but it’s cold and you can’t see out.

And then we found out about the brilliant Central-Asian invention: tapchan, a raised platform with mattresses and pillows, used for resting, dining and socialising.

http://thebigsofascentralasia.blogspot.com/2014/04/the-words-to-express-...

We used fir wood to make four mini-platforms and four rails, two on the balcony wall and two below the window.

If all the mini-platforms are on the lower rails, you get a nice tapchan for socialising, resting, even working outside.

Alternatively, you can raise some platforms onto the higher rails and get a table with benches.

The cube is made of two elements: a transparent glass part and a wooden part containing the metal lid.

The fine touch of wood prepares one for the contact with the fine taste of the honey, contributing to the experience of quality, pleasure and health.

The 720, 580 and 370 ml jars' sides are 10,2 cm long. The 210 ml souvenir jar's sides are 7,2 cm long, and 150 and 100 ml jars can be made to fit that size, too.

The wooden lid can be engraved with the symbols of producers, the Croatian honeymakers' association, etc.

The label can vary according to the origin of honey: A zig-zag line for the mountaineous region of Croatia, a straight one for the Pannonian region, and a wavy one for the Mediterranean one. The label is transparent, letting the honey's colour come to the fore.
