58th CIECA Congress 2026 – Event materials available

08.06.2026. The 58th CIECA Congress – “Driving Innovation: Enhancing Driver Assessment, Education, and Road Safety through Technology” took place from 26 to 29 May 2026 in Dresden, Germany, at the International Congress Center Dresden, hosted by TÜV | DEKRA arge tp 21.

The event brought together international experts in driver assessment, education, and road safety. The CIECA General Assembly (members only) was held on 27 May, followed by the Congress sessions open to the public on 28 May.

ETG Workshop Report: Driving Simulators

26.02.2026. The report from the ETG Workshop “The Use of Simulators for Driver Training: Latest Developments”, held on 5 November in Montpellier (France), is now available.

The workshop examined the increasing use of driving simulators in driver training across Europe, highlighting recent research, legislative developments, and their potential contribution to road safety. Participants also explored the didactical value of modern simulator technology and took part in a practical session using equipment provided by Ediser and Codes Rousseau.

CIECA presents Most Active Member Award 2025 in Dublin

25.02.2026. CIECA was pleased to present the CIECA Award for the Most Active Member 2025 to Dr. Mark Tant, Deputy Chairman of the CIECA Fit-to-Drive Group, representing our member organisation the Vias institute (Belgium), during the Fit-to-Drive workshop held in Dublin on 20 February 2026.

Although the official ceremony traditionally takes place during the annual Congress, this year’s laureate will be unable to attend the Congress in Dresden in May. The award was therefore presented in Dublin, with a recording of the ceremony to be shown at the Congress.

The Most Active Member Award is regarded as one of CIECA’s highest honours. Bestowed directly by the CIECA Permanent Bureau, it recognises exceptional commitment and significant contributions to CIECA’s work and to the advancement of road safety.

Dr. Tant has been a long-standing and highly dedicated contributor to the Fit-to-Drive Group. He has played a key role in several major CIECA reports, represented CIECA in discussions with the European Commission in preparation for the Fourth Driving Licence Directive, and contributed to CIECA’s recommendations on the Driving Licences Directive submitted to the European Parliament in 2023. He has also supported the CIECA Congress programme by reviewing Fit-to-Drive papers for three consecutive years.

CIECA warmly congratulates Dr. Mark Tant on this well-deserved recognition and thanks him for his outstanding dedication to safer mobility.

CIECA Guidelines for the Conduction of Practical Tests in Vehicles Equipped with ADAS

The updated CIECA Guidelines for the Conduction of Practical Tests in Vehicles Equipped with ADAS, developed by the Expert Advisory Group (EAG), were recently presented during a webinar on 13 November 2025 (access restricted to members only). The guidelines reflect the latest technological and legislative developments and incorporate the practical experience gained since the first version in April 2020.

MOVING Calls for Tax Relief on Driving Licence Costs

23.04.2025. MOVING International Road Safety Association e.V., one of CIECA's Affiliated Members, is calling for car driving licence (Category B) costs to become tax-deductible in Germany, aiming to ease the financial burden on learners and support individual mobility. By allowing 20% of training costs (up to €800) to be deducted under Section 35a EStG, the proposal offers a simple and effective path to more affordable and sustainable driver education. Fit to Drive Advisory Group

The CIECA Fit to Drive (FTD) Group is a Permanent Advisory Group that offers expert guidance on medical and fitness-to-drive matters. Its members are appointed by the Permanent Bureau based on their expertise and commitment, serving terms of up to six years.

The Group operates under a work programme set by the Permanent Bureau and is led by an elected Chair. It meets at least twice a year, with communication and coordination facilitated by the CIECA Secretariat.

Its core responsibilities include:

Advising CIECA on fitness-to-drive issues;

Sharing information and good practices among members;

Responding to enquiries from the Secretariat, the Permanent Bureau, and member organisations;

Organising an annual workshop;

Contributing to CIECA publications, events, and surveys.
