Hi, can anyone tell me where Ty Mawr is (was) located please? I think it was near the vicarage, and my family lived there 2nd half of the 19th century (Ellis) so it would be nice to see it next time I’m in Abergele (when it gets a bit warmer, maybe March!! Any other knowledge about the Ellis family, which lived prior at Garth Gogo would be greatly appreciated!

In reply to Andrew Giller. I remember my father did some building work in the castle back in the early 70's and I vaguely remember him telling me it was the biggest piano in the world! I always thought he was exaggerating but it seems he wasn't too far wrong. Thanks for the info.

Hi Arfon, Remember you and your brother well..Goal keeper I seem to recall.
I often returned to visit and became friends with both Jack Thornton and Hubert Hughes.
Should have stayed for 6th Form, but haven’t done too badly.
Is or was there an old boys association?

My mother, Olwen, is the young lady on the top right-hand side. She would possibly have been known as Mrs Olwen Evans or Miss Olwen Griffiths depending on the year.

My brother Bryan Hughes was at AGS 1953-1960. I Brenda Hughes ( now Williams) was there 1956-1962. Bryan died Dec ‘23 in Arizona, he had lived in USA
California, Oregon & Arizona since1964. I have lived in Cambridgeshire since 1972.

The ‘unknown lady’ on the right in the back row was my mother – Olwen Roberts. Maiden name Olwen Griffiths. I know that she taught at the school in the late 50s as I have other photos of her in the classroom. I’m not sure where those other photos are but if I can locate them I’ll have a look at the back to see if there is a date.

What happened to the Mountjoy cafe? I believe my Great Aunt and Uncle, Matilda and John Metcalfe came from Manchester and opened this café/ bakery around 1911

Hi Nigel. Sorry I’m late to the party. I’ve come across an old LP recording of Abergele Grammer School Choir dated 21st May 1965 and wondered if you or anyone you’re connected to would be interested in it?

Conducted by Mr. R. Dilwyn Jones, Organist Mr. R. Elfin Jones, Soloist Mr. J. Manod Rees, Duetists Jennifer Davies and Iona Davies.
