]]>Need ways to get your small business noticed in April? Well I have some very easy April Marketing Ideas for Small Business that should do the trick!
Let’s start by looking at some of the occasions, holidays, and national days in April that you can take advantage of. There are many, but here are the ones I think have the most marketing potential.
Post a photo of tonight’s full moon (also known as the Pink Moon so add a filter for fun) with your business in the foreground if possible.
Sponsor a local Easter egg hunt or offer free Easter coloring pages as a downloadable resource on your website (searches for these reach nearly 500,000 every April). Add your company branding to the pages so families who download them remember your business. For retail, an in-store Easter egg hunt is always a fun event.
One of my favorite ideas I came up with years ago for a landscaping company was to shape a large tree or shrub into a giant bunny and invite the community to stop by and take photos with it (sort of like posing with Santa Claus). Again, make sure your company name appears by the bunny and encourage people to tag you when they share the photo on social media.
This one is obviously great for restaurants and bars to do a special two-for-one beer promotion, but any company could post a fun poll on social media asking people to rank their favorite beers, or match the beer to the country it is from. Get creative!
Any business can put a TV in their lobby or store window showing the Masters Golf Tournament as a way to get passer-bys to stop in.
If you are the type of business that regularly lets their employees bring their pets to work, set up a PR opportunity with a local newspaper, a few weeks prior, to come in and photograph your pets in the office for national pet day, which results in some free publicity for your business.
Send out a friendly email reminder to your customer base, simply reminding them about the tax deadline. It’s a great opportunity to poke your customers without looking like that’s what you’re doing.
This is another great PR opportunity, where you could convince a local reporter to write a story about businesses who are adopting sustainable practices, and include yours (if you have some eco-friendly practices and/or products).
Cute animals always do well on social media, so for National Adopt a Shelter Pet Day, why not do some good at the same time and go down to your local animal shelter, take a photo of a pet that needs a home, and post it to Instagram asking all of your followers to “like” it. I guarantee it will get shared along with your business name and logo.
This is why you will love my Social Media Posting Ideas and my National Day Calendar because I give you creative ways to capitalize on these holidays, plus so much more!

]]>I am sure you have been hearing a lot about AI and how it can help your small business. Therefore, below are six of the top AI Tools for 2026 and what they can help you as a business owner.
AI assistants have become incredibly helpful for today’s businesses, and ChatGPT remains one of the most well known and versatile tools available. Small business owners can use it for drafting emails, answering customer questions, and conducting competitive analysis.
Key Features:
CAUTION! Now, as a marketer, I will warn you if all of your competitors are also using ChatGPT for these tasks, you are all going to start sounding the same, and you do not want that. ChatGPT can be very one-note, in other words, not very original so a Marketing Writer (like myself) is still a valuable asset to set yourself apart from the competition.
HubSpot combines AI with customer relationship marketing (CRM) and marketing automation to help your business manage your sales leads and improve and maintain your customer relationships.
Key Features:
Personally, as a small business owner, I don’t know what I would do without Canva. I am by no means a designer, but Canva’s AI tools make it easy for anyone to create marketing materials such as social media posts, ads, and banners.
Key Features:
Zapier connects thousands of apps together and automates workflows between them, in other words provides you with valuable multitasking capabilities so nothing falls through the cracks.
Key Features:
Example Uses:
As you know, search engine visibility is critical for small businesses. SEMrush, already a leader in SEO, uses AI to analyze current search trends and optimize your content for higher rankings.
Key Features:
Most end users and businesses are already users of Notion. Notion AI helps businesses organize ideas, documents, and workflows, so you can centralize information for your employees, teams and other staff, and keep projects organized without the need for complex software.
Key Features:
AI tools really are transforming how businesses operate. They will help you save on hiring additional resources, save you time and save you money, improving your overall productivity and growth potential.
If you’re just starting out with AI, a simple AI stack might include:
If you want to make sure that your business is optimized to be found in AI search, which is quickly outpacing Google, be sure to download my ebook, How to Optimize Your Business for AI Search.

]]>The post What to Sell on Etsy 2026 appeared first on Attention Getting.
]]>When I wrote my first version of What to Sell on Etsy, I did a lot of research using various SEO sources to determine where there was high product demand combined with a low number of Etsy listings. I have now updated it for 2026, this time focusing solely on Etsy-exclusive searches and I uncovered some great opportunities where demand is greater than supply.
For example, there are currently 8,300 searches each month on Etsy for “Polaris Necklace”, yet only 118 listings. Now, this doesn’t mean there are truly only 118 polaris necklaces on Etsy (there are in fact 4,400 listings) but rather sellers are not using this exact search phrase in the title. Therefore, if I were selling a polaris necklace, or decided to add one into my shop to take advantage of this opportunity, I would lead the listing title with the exact search phrase, as such:
Polaris Necklace in Gold and Silver with Dainty Chain and Pendant…
Now, I am not saying this will catapult you to the top of search results as Etsy looks at many other factors when ranking your listing, but it can’t hurt if you are having difficulty getting traffic as Etsy does have a tendency to like search phrases in exact word order and exact phrasing.
Some other interesting findings:
The irony with the last search, is that “Luxury Corporate Gift” (no “s” on gift) has only 68 monthly searches and 15,100 listings. The “s” may or may not make a difference as Etsy search has been known to disregard whether an s is added or not if there is a listing that does have the “s” at the end of gifts and is a best seller, an Etsy’s pick, has free shipping, etc. Essentially, if the listing has all of these key ranking factors plus the exact search phrase, it is SEO gold.
The data is always based on the last 30 days, so my guide also helps to show current hot trends where supply hasn’t had time to catch up to demand yet. Now, some of these trends are trademarked, so that could be why searches are so much greater than the number of listings:
Again, I am just presenting the data of more than 300 listings where searches outnumbered listings, and in some cases equalled it, which is still an opportunity in my opinion. But when you see data such as “gift for him” has 82,700 monthly searches and 1,500,000 listings, it can be a bit daunting to find opportunities to get ahead on Etsy.
I’ve kept my current What to Sell on Etsy 2026 download at an affordable price as I will be updating it every two months, but it will save you hours of time trying to find unique product niches and/or SEO opportunities.

]]>Their recent report shows that traffic to major U.S. retail websites driven by generative AI assistants surged 600% in just over a year, increasing to 41 million monthly visits in December 2025 up from 6 million in October 2024.
Their data also indicated that the traditional U.S. retailers, such as Walmart, Home Depot, Etsy, and Target, have experienced the most explosive growth, with AI-driven referrals increasing by over 1600%.
Now, a bit of a reality check in that the data showed that this AI traffic currently represents less than 1% of total retail traffic. However, the consistent upward growth indicates that AI is rapidly emerging as an entry point for product discovery.

]]>Shower Steamers for Babies & Kids: Shower steamers release aromatherapy scents during use. In the last three years, demand has more than doubled, with searches particularly high from November to February. Also known as shower fizzers, fizzies, or bombs, no one sells them for babies and young kids. When your child is congested, taking them with you in a hot steamy shower helps to open up their nasal passages, especially if using a shower steamer with a scent like eucalyptus. Just make sure they are scents that are safe for babies and kids.
Thanksgiving Recipe Dish Towel Set: Every year, “How to Cook a Turkey” is the top Google search the day before Thanksgiving. So why not create a set of three Thanksgiving-theme dish towels, where one is printed with directions on how to cook a turkey, one printed with directions on how to make stuffing, and one printed with directions on how to make cranberry sauce.
Personalized Family City Signs: For several years now, the personalized wall sign market on Etsy has been hot. Therefore, why take those signs you see when you enter a city’s limits, and create personalized ones using family names. Makes a great housewarming gift. i.e. Welcome to Wilson Town, population 5.
Table Top Versions of Kids’ Playsets: Many parents live in a small space or apartment, so play kitchens and toy workshops can take up a lot of space. Therefore, making tabletop versions of these toys allows them to take up less floor space as well as tuck out of site when not in use, like under a bed or couch.
Bridesmaid Track Suits: Bridesmaid robes are a top seller, but they have been done to death. With comfort clothing so popular right now, why not create personalized bridesmaid track suits or warm up suits where you’re team bride!
Storybook Portraits: A lot of artists offer personalized illustrated portraits of children and pets, but why not make it more interesting and create a portrait that turns them into a mythical storybook character or animal. Or for Christmas, turn them into a gingerbread man!
Market Bag with Compartment for Meat: Worried that your fresh meat purchases will leak into your other groceries? Come up with a market bag that has a front waterproof-lined pocket just for meat. Products that find solutions to everyday problems always sell well.
Travel Enamel Pins: Design “I’ve Been Everywhere” pins that resemble stamps of cities, states, or countries that people can collect to mark off where they’ve been. But it should say something like, “Been to Paris” or “Paris was fun”. Fun to collect and pin to your travel backpack.
Fire Blankets: Fire blankets surged in popularity after the California wildfires, as people began seeking a reliable, fire-resistant tool to quickly smother small flames or protect themselves while evacuating an area affected by fire.
Labeled Garment Bags: People love organizational products, especially closet organization. I think that the idea of garment bags that are labeled with either seasonal labels i.e. Summer Suits or by occasion i.e. Wedding Suit. They could also be labeled for days of the week to help organize outfits for the week, for both adults and kids.

]]>Local sponsorships opportunities are usually not very expensive, but they allow your business name to get seen by a wide audience. You would need to start planning for these in the early summer.
Just as you decorate your house, why not light up your store, office, or business location with lights on the trees, doors, windows, and eaves. Great for getting your business noticed at night as well.
Again, if your business gets a lot of foot traffic or passer-bys, why not decorate the windows like the department stores use to, in order to get people to stop and look.
If your parking lot is large enough, allow a Christmas tree seller to sell in your lot, attracting a lot of new customers to your business.
Most businesses send out Christmas cards, but a more affordable option is to send out a Christmas email, and be sure to include a funny GIF or animation so that they share it with others.
A great idea to get more people in the store, especially kids, is to hold a contest for shoppers to find the hidden elves on the shelf in order to get a special store discount.
A fun idea is to offer a different promotion to customers–every 12 days–to keep them coming back.
On your website, offer customers free holiday printables to download, such as a Letter to Santa template. Make sure it has all of your business’ information on it.
Join forces with another small business to do a giveaway for a warm weather holiday vacation. You will save on the cost of the promotion as well as double your audience with their customer base.
If you have the room, set up a holiday photo booth for customers to pose with fun holiday props. This is a great idea for restaurants too!

Healthcare remains one of the fastest-growing industries — and with ongoing staffing shortages, recruiters are in high demand. I know because healthcare dominates my resume writing service by 60% of all requests. If you have a background in HR consider starting a niche healthcare recruiting business or job posting service. How you make money: Recruiters typically earn a commission based on a candidate’s salary for permanent roles, or a cut of the hourly rate for contract positions.
As baby boomers age and their families downsize or inherit property, the need for estate clearout services is exploding. Many homes are packed with decades’ worth of belongings that need to be sorted, removed, or donated before a house can go on the market, particularly if the heirs of the estate do not live in the same city or state. This business is ideal for organized, compassionate individuals who can handle logistics and emotional situations with professionalism. How you make $$$: Average rate is $50 per cubic yard, which is approximately $1,200 for a 2,000 square foot home.
Every home sale typically requires a certified home inspection, and the ideal thing about becoming a home inspector is that it is relatively easy with low overhead. It does involve some training, certification, and a license (varies by state), but it can provide stable income — especially in growing housing markets. How you make $$$: Most full-time home inspectors make around $60K a year.
With the boom in nomadic living and #VanLife continuing to trend, RVs are being bought and sold like hotcakes. If you have skills in renovation, mechanics, or interior design, consider offering RV refurbishment services — updating interiors, fixing mechanical issues, or customizing layouts for a new generation of mobile dwellers. How you make $$$: Charge for the time and materials involved. You could even buy old RVS, refurbish and then sell. Visit my Etsy store for more small business downloads.
From Xboxes and PlayStations to Kindles and Firesticks, millions of these devices are in today’s homes — and they break down often. Most people would rather repair than replace. If you have technical skills or can hire someone who does, this niche repair service can build a loyal, local client base fast. How you make $$$: Obviously no one is going to spend $50 to fix a $100 Kindle, so you would have to make sure you can fix quickly the item quickly in order for it to be profitable. Otherwise, like the RV idea above, you might be better to take old and discarded Kindles and other electronics, fix them, and then resell.
With college competition heating up, high school students (and their parents) are investing in AP exam tutoring more than ever. If you’re a retired teacher or subject matter expert, this can be a lucrative part-time or full-time business, either online or in person. How you make $$$: Most AP tutors charge $50 to $100 an hour, making it one of the best small business ideas for 2026.
In an age of digital overload, people are craving quiet, which is likely why “reading retreat” was a top Google search in 2025. Curate a cozy, book-filled space where visitors can unplug and immerse themselves in a good novel. How you make $$$: Offer day passes, monthly memberships, themed literary events as well as sell books and other reading-related items along with coffee, tea, and other refreshments.
Live music venues are making a comeback — and people love pairing ambiance with caffeine. Again, another top search in 2025 was “coffee shop with live music near me” as people as looking to make the coffee shop experience last a little longer and turn into more of an event. Therefore a coffee shop that features regular local artists can set itself apart from corporate chains and become a community hub. Bonus: It can double as a venue for poetry nights, open mics, and more. How you make $$$: Obviously you make money selling coffee and baked items, but if you are open in the late afternoon and evening, you can also become licensed to sell wine and spirits.
This digital-first business idea allows you to act as a real-time guide to your city — recommending restaurants, co-working spots, hot events and festivals, and more. Think of it as a hyper-local version of TripAdvisor. How you make $$$: Monetize through advertising revenues, partnerships, affiliate links, and/or premium subscriptions. Visit my Etsy store for more small business downloads.
Dog owners are searching for “self-serve dog wash near me” more than ever as Google searches for this trend are up 250% in 2025. These work similarly to car washes: you install outdoor wash stations with water hookups, soap dispensers, and dryers. It’s a low-maintenance, high-volume service, making it one of the best small business ideas for 2026. How you make $$$: Most charge anywhere from $5 to $15 per wash, plus potential ad revenues from local dog businesses.
It may not be glamorous, but this was the MOST searched-for local service in 2025. How you make $$$: Prices will vary based on the type of installation and size of house, but average price homeowners paid in 2025 was $2,000.
Most financial advisors focus on older clients nearing retirement, but Gen Z and millennials are actively seeking guidance on student loans, investing, and saving. Position yourself as a financial coach for young professionals. How you make $$$: Hourly rate for one-on-one sessions as well as offering packages, seminars, and courses.
As climate concerns grow and wildfires become more common, there’s a rising demand for fireproofing services — from home hardening consultations to installing flame-resistant materials. It’s a niche, high-trust business with the potential to expand rapidly in vulnerable regions. How you make $$$: Average price to fire proof a home in 2025 is $2,000 to $15,000. Visit my Etsy store for more small business downloads.
Extreme weather events are increasing, and storm damage repair services are often booked solid after major events. An emergency service for both residential and businesses that can help clean up and store after hurricanes, floods, and other natural disasters is big business in certain areas of the country. How you make $$$: Depending on the type of service, most people charge between $4 – $10 per square foot.
With billions in grants available to small businesses and non-profits, many don’t know where to start, and buying this service will more than pay for itself. If you have experience in writing proposals, navigating grant databases, or financial advising, you can help small businesses access crucial funding. How you make $$$: Average rate is $50 to $200 per hour.

]]>If you can use your business to drive traffic to other businesses (as long as they are not competitors), why not charge for it?
It reminded me of a post I wrote a few years back called “How to Promote Your Business Locally” where I was inspired by a breakfast restaurant in Vermont that had local businesses advertise on its mugs. Even though that post is 10 years old, there are still some great ideas in it for you!
Sometimes the more niche you get, the more money you can charge because then you are reaching a specific target market. For example, I noticed this group in Boston created this map on the right that specifically highlighted female and black-owned businesses.
Maybe you wish to promote only complimentary businesses. For example, let’s say you’re a successful spa. You can use that success to promote new and up and coming businesses in the wellness space (for a fee, of course).
Therefore, it might be time to put on your thinking cap and turn your thriving business into an ad revenue machine!

]]>Take this clever example: I recently came across an article about Taylor Swift-themed Airbnbs. Brilliant! It’s a smart, timely way to tap into a massive, passionate fan base. If you own an Airbnb, you might want to jump on that trend—(and if so, make sure to download my Airbnb Marketing Plan). Even if the Swiftie buzz fades over time, it’s a highly profitable short-term strategy that can also attract media attention (and free publicity!).
The beauty of going niche is that it doesn’t have to be a long-term commitment. Think of it as riding the wave of what’s hot right now.
Let’s say you run a family restaurant. With a new Jurassic Park movie coming out, why not launch a limited-time “Dino Menu” for kids? If you’re a travel agent, highlight the best dinosaur exhibits across the country as themed summer vacation ideas. Toy store owner? Create an eye-catching dinosaur display to draw families in. These types of creative, trend-based campaigns can drive traffic, boost sales, and spark word-of-mouth—without requiring a full business overhaul.
Not sure where to start? Head over to Google Trends, or check out my Google Trends & Top Searches page for inspiration on what people are talking about right now.

The post Why Finding a Niche Audience Might Be Exactly What Your Small Business Needs appeared first on Attention Getting.
]]>The post The Hidden Cost of Too Many Etsy Listings: Is Your Shop Bleeding Money? appeared first on Attention Getting.
]]>Here’s why:
Let’s say your shop has 5,000 items listed—but only 1,000 of them are actually selling. That leaves 4,000 listings that aren’t bringing in a dime.
Now, this is where it gets expensive. Etsy charges a $0.20 renewal fee per listing every 4 months, which means you’re paying that fee three times a year. Do the math:
4,000 non-selling listings × $0.20 × 3 renewals = $2,400/year
That’s $2,400 just to keep unsold items sitting in your shop. Ouch.
It might not seem like much per listing, but when you scale that cost, the financial drain becomes very real.
If you haven’t reviewed your shop’s performance lately, this is your wake-up call. Check your stats. If hundreds (or thousands) of listings haven’t sold in over a year, it might be time to clean house. Deactivate the dead weight and focus on what’s working.

]]>The post SEO & Marketing appeared first on Attention Getting.
]]>Want to improve the SEO & marketing of your small business? It all begins with one of the most overlooked yet powerful tools: your website’s title tag.
SEO (Search Engine Optimization) is essential for driving traffic and visibility, but hiring professional SEO services can be expensive. The good news? You can borrow proven strategies from big retailers and apply them to your own site—quickly and easily. In this post, we’ll cover actionable tips that can help your small business compete and stand out online.
Your site’s title tag (the descriptive line that appears in the browser bar at the top when people land on your home page) is very important to be found in Google search. So you want to be specific as to how people really search.
A lot of times when people are searching for an item like a phone, they will use words like “buy” or “for sale” as part of their search phrase.
For example, take a look at Apple’s title tag for their online store below:
Notice the use of the word “buy” and then listing their products by their exact name.
Sometimes, putting a key feature of your business that people search on, works as well.
For example, take a look at FTD’s title tag for their online store below:
FTD knows that “same day flower delivery” is not only a popular request, but a very popular Google search phrase.
Sections or category title tags are also important to be keyworded correctly for SEO. When it comes to your website’s sections or categories, again, load up the section title tag with as many possible search phrases as possible that you offer.
For example, take a look at Gap’s category title tag for “jeans” below:
Women don’t search “jeans“, they search a specific type of jeans, and Gap has covered all of the most popular ones in their section title tag.
Another good example, Asos.com’s category title tag for “earrings” below covers off every type of earring search:
Take a look at top sites in your segment, then take a look at popular search phrases and see how you can maximize the SEO of your title tags and section title tags.

]]>But did you know that you have free influencers for your small business all around you?
For example, I have a client who sells press on nails. Since her retail business is located next door to a busy hotel, I suggested that she gift all of the female front desk agents with her nails, because any female hotel guest checking in would notice the agent’s nails as she typed in her information. If the female hotel guest comments on the nails, the front desk agent simply mentions they are sold at the store beside the hotel. Other than a few free products, this is a pretty effective way to drive traffic to her store.
You can do the same thing with your business. Define who your target market is in terms of gender, age, location, interests, whatever the case may be. Then think about the every day people that your target market comes in contact with on a daily basis.
In my marketing plans I always suggest that if you have a friend or relative running in a big race, like the New York Marathon, give them a shirt to wear that has your company name on it. Think of how many people will see it, especially since it is also televised. Even if you have friends or family going to Disney World, make them a tshirt that has your company name and url on the back.
