Beehive Statesmen in CY 2019

The generous funding provided in the ZAP grant for our 2019 season enabled the Beehive Statesmen Chorus to accomplish all of its proposed events and to reach a broad audience of often under-served residents of Salt Lake County. The Statesmen provided 25 concerts within Salt Lake County throughout the year, an unprecedented accomplishment! Living up to our motto of Service Through Singing, 19 of the concerts were given to assisted and senior living communities. We have found that our music and the joy that we bring to our concerts can touch the hearts of so many in those audiences. We particularly enjoy to opportunity to spend time with them after each concert, to greet them and listen to the memories that our songs have evoked. The ZAP grant was instrumental in defraying facility rental costs for our rehearsal location and equipment storage, contracting for the services of our then-Director, Ms Peschell and acquiring additional music to expand our repertoire. Of particular importance, the grant allowed us to fund a training retreat by nationally renowned trainer Ms Debra Lynn. Over two days we learned numerous techniques for improving our musical abilities- both individual and as a chorus. The value of this training became evident after our free Christmas concert to over 400 persons at the Utah Cultural Celebration Center on Dec 2. The Beehive Statesmen entertained the crowds with an inspiring performance of traditional Christmas songs in the barbershop style Monday night, Dec 2. Hosted by the Utah Cultural Celebration Center, the Statesmen continued their tradition of providing a free Christmas concert that is both inspiring and entertaining. The wonderful audience of over 250 persons were kind enough to laugh at the corney jokes and were genuinely engaged throughout the performance. The Statesmen wish to express their continued gratitude to the Salt Lake Zoo Arts and Parks program for their continuing support that makes our performances and out reach possible as well as our wonderful partnership with the Sons of Utah Pioneers. The Statesmen are proud of their efforts to embody our motto of 'Service Through Singing'. We will have performed for 19 senior living homes in addition to many other concerts for the public through this year. Going strong for over 70 years, the Beehive Statesmen look forward to continuing this service tradition in the coming years.

Christmas Season Concerts

The Beehive Statesmen were very active this holiday season. We provided 11 concerts in 19 days to a wide audience. These included our annual Christmas show, a concert in the Assembly Hall on Temple Square and concerts for 5 different senior/assisted living centers. We enjoyed the opportunity to share our love of barbershop music with such diverse audiences and hope you will join us at our future events in the coming year!
