Mayfield Lavender in Banstead features in Azhar, an upcoming film that depicts the rise and fall of Indian cricket hero Mohammad Azharuddin.
Charting Azharuddin’s humble beginnings to his meteoric rise in the world of cricket, the biopic has been directed by Tony D’Souza and has its worldwide release in May.
Mayfield Lavender celebrates its 10 year anniversary this summer having provided the village of Banstead with its own little piece of Provence for a decade.
Mayfield Lavender owner Lorna Maye said: “We are honoured and delighted that our farm stars in this new movie. It is in fact the second Indian film that has been shot in part here. In 2013 the field was used as a backdrop in Malayalam film ‘London Bridge’.”
Azhar stars Emraan Hashmi, Nargis Fakhri and Prachi Desai in the lead roles.
Mayfield Lavender Farm reopens to the public on 1st June until 15th September. From this date the fields, tea and gift shop will be open every day from 10am to 6pm and can be found at 1 Carshalton Road, Banstead, SM7 3JA.
A nominal £1 per person entry fee covers the cost of the upkeep of the farm. Parking is free.

Shah Rukh Khan has made a dream come true for a blind fan who waited eight years to meet him.
After losing her sight in 2005, Caroline Zeder fulfilled a long-standing wish to touch the actor’s face. Khan met with the Swiss Bollywood fan while he was was in the UK on a short visit to attend a wedding.
Zeder told Steven Baker, “Suddenly beside me, he said ‘Hello Caroline’. I was so unsure what to do; shaking hands, or could I maybe give him just a hug? He tapped his finger on my shoulder and just embraced me. It was a long hug, really long. He asked me how I was and if I was enjoying London.”
“He apologized that he had so little time as he had to catch a plane to Dubai. But I couldn’t let him go without touching his face. I’d been waiting eight years for that moment to finally know how he looked,” she added.
She then gathered up her courage to ask her special wish, “So I grabbed all my courage to ask him if he remembers what he opromised me as DJ SRK. He knew! He knew exactly who I am and what he promised. I asked if it would be cheeky to touch his face. He said, ‘Not at all’.”
He listened carefully as I explained him that I can’t do it while so many people surrounding us so he just took my arm and guided me to another place with more privacy.”
“I touched his face!!! I was so overwhelmed,” she said.
“He again gave me a huge hug before saying goodbye. He is so humble and beautiful, more than I could ever imagine.
“But what really touched me deeply was the love he gave me with his hugs. He has an an absolutely unique aura. I never felt like this before! Love, hope, beliveing, shyness and strength.”
Says Zeder, “I will never ever forget that moment. Thank you, Shah Rukh Khan.”

The faded, vintage glamour of the Delite Cinema provided the ideal location to host the press conference of new release B.A. Pass. We caught up with the stars and director of the film at the cinema, little more than a stone’s throw from Delhi’s Paharganj, where much of Ajay Bahl’s debut was shot.
Despite getting its theatrical release on August 2, the project has already achieved critical acclaim at film festivals from Delhi to London and Montreal to Paris. Lead actor Shadab Kamal was also the recipient of a ‘Best Actor’ award at the Osian Cinefan Festival of Asian and Arab Cinema.
“Honestly speaking, I was not expecting it. I didn’t even know Osian had an award for ‘Best Actor’.”said Kamal. “I was with my friends hanging out and enjoying myself when I got the call that I had won.”
The 25-year-old actor went on to add: “I was going through a very bad day that day, I have never shared this with anybody, but I had a break-up in the morning and that very same evening I won the award.
“So I was going through a lot of emotions and didn’t know whether to be happy or be sad.”
Starring opposite Kamal in the film, Chak De India actor Shilpa Shukla said that despite the film’s bold storyline, as an actor, the complexity of her role made her eager to be part of the project.
Shukla also spoke about how it was important that her family were behind her: “Pappa was very encouraging. When we won the ‘Best Film’ award, – voted for by the people – at Osian, that was a moment of victory.”
“Of course, it wasn’t just about getting his permission, but the fact that he enjoyed the film, which was important.”
Based on the short story The Railway Aunty by Mohan Sikka, if you have already read the book – as I had – be prepared for director Ajay Bahl’s twist in the climax.
Although marketed as a bold, erotic drama, as the lights come up you may find that it is the movie’s consuming story and convincing performances that you’ll be thinking about more than the erotic content that has been its marketing strategy.

Hindi film superstar Shah Rukh Khan took time out from shooting his upcoming Yash Chopra film to speak exclusively to VJ and 7 Welcome To London actor and director Asad Shan.
The Badshah of Bollywood met with the Badshah of British Asian cinema to record a very special episode of Brits Bollywood.
“As soon as I was introduced, he said ‘Hi Beta’ and I was floored with his caring personality and charm. Shah Rukh gave fantastic advice for newcomers and first time directors,” Shan revealed.
“I shared my film 7 Welcome to London with him and he blessed me with a dua and wished me the best. I must say this was an amazing experience and I got to learn so much.”
The former Mr Asia UK went on to add: “I have to say it was a great moment for me personally, sharing screen space with my hero and idol.”

The star made a personal appearance as the credits rolled, surprising cinemagoers at London’s Cineworld, Shaftesbury Avenue.
Accompanied by leading lady Sabeeka Iman, Shan’s entrance into the theatre prompted one fan to scream with uncontrolled excitement and hysteria as she met the real-life Jai.
“At Shaftesbury Avenue – where it has been going house packed – a lady nearly fainted and couldn’t stop crying. Her husband, who was English, had tears in his eyes as he described the movie as the best experience of his life,” Shan told BollySpice.
“His wife was thanking god and screaming with joy. It was a totally remarkable and blessed day,” said the VJ-turned-actor.
After the red carpet premiere of the Hindi romantic thriller, its lead actors have continued promotions by meeting with fans at cinemas screening the production.
“This weekend has been absolutely amazing. We have visited several sites in London, and have been amazed with the turnout as we are both newcomers. We met loads and loads of fans while we sold tickets at places like Cineworld Ilford and The O2,” Shan went on to add.
The 7 Welcome to London stars later posed with fans at The Trocadero and Piccadilly Circus, after celebrating the film’s success at an exclusive West End venue.
Add to this, the fact that producer Aditya Chopra is involved and this is a Yash Raj Films project, and you can see that the said ladies and Ricky have their work cut out in meeting the demands of the audience.
Will the ‘rom-con’ match the earlier success of BBB? Does Ranveer justify the hype of being the next big thing? Can the lead pair recreate the scorching celluloid electricity from their previous outing?
The film kicks off in Delhi. Con number one sees gym instructor Sunny (Ranveer) in outfits even Salman Khan would reject as tasteless, hustle a love-struck Dimple (Parineeti Chopra) out of a suitcase of daddy’s money. The swindle, involving a haveli, a court case and a lost family inheritance, is up there with the Bunty aur Babli school of scams.
Twenty minutes into the film – something James Bond fans will be familiar with – we are treated to the stylized opening credits: Ricky Bahl in various avatars hustling a selection of ladies as he assembles a bigger and bigger stockpile of cash.
The exploits hastily cut to Mumbai where art dealer Deven (Ranveer again) tricks no nonsense corporate Raina (Dipannita Sharma), out of an obscene amount of her company’s money through an elaborate ruse involving fake high-end art.
Watching events unfold on a TV news channel, Delhi girl Dimple contacts Raina, her suspicion that it is the same scam artist confirmed through the sharing of an SMSed photo. In a stylish split screen set piece, courtesy of cinematographer Aseem Mishra, enter Saira (Aditi Sharma), with a backstory of deception from shy stranger Iqbal (Ranveer, who else?) in the cloth selling alleys of Lucknow.
As you would expect from YRF, the film scores points in getting the finer details right. The presentation of the urban spaces of Delhi, Mumbai and Lucknow, and the characters that inhabit them, is spot on. In the first hour of location shifts, Maneesh treats the audience to three films for the price of one.
Ladies 0. Ricky Bahl 1. It is now time to bring in Raina’s friend Ishika (Anushka Sharma) a fast-talking, hard-selling department store sales girl. The promise of a couple of months of five star living in Goa pretending to be a wealthy property investor, and a hefty fee at the end of the job, persuades Ishika to go up against Sunny/Deven/Iqbal and get back the girls’ money.
A strong first half dips post-interval. Despite the beautiful people and hip location, the girls’ cons lack the oomph of those seen in the first half. Through a series of swindles involving a yacht party, a designer boutique and the sale of prime development land, the girls attempt to get back what is rightly theirs, but in doing so run the risk of being conned again.
What works in Ladies v/s Ricky Bahl is the eponymous hero. Ranveer consolidates his position as the one to watch out for in Bollywood. Yash Raj gives Ranveer scope to tick all the right boxes of the successful solo male lead.
Romantic hero dialogues? Check. Song and dance sequences? Check. Opportunities to get shirtless and show off Greek God body? Check.
Aside from being a pretty face, Anushka is a talented actor. Taking over the mantle temporarily left vacant by Rani Mukherjee, Anushka impresses with an underplayed yet expressive performance style. Watch out for the scene in Goa when her own con is exposed. Observe the almost imperceptible shift in her eyes and the octave drop in her voice. Flawless.
Undoubtedly, there is a chemistry between the two leads, but because this is more ‘rom-con’ than ‘rom-com’, there is less opportunity for those sparks to ignite that we saw in Band Baaja Baaraat.
Unlike other female-heavy ensemble projects (Shaadi No 1, No Entry), each of the ladies stands out in clearly defined roles.
The surprise package here is Parineeti Chopra. Former marketing exec at YRF, and cousin of star Priyanka Chopra, the debut actor has been allocated the best of Habib Faisal’s dialogues. Parineeti delivers a memorable, and quite literally, ‘LOL’ performance as a moneyed South Delhi daddy’s girl.
Dipannita Sharma gives a confident performance as a Mumbai career woman, with her model looks standing out on the big screen. Aditi Sharma is believable as a small-town Lucknowi girl, despite being given less material to work with.
Although hummable, you may find yourself struggling to remember Salim and Sulaiman’s score after leaving the theatre. The hero’s theme song ‘Aadat Se Majboor’ takes home top prize. Anushka’s entry track ‘Jazba’ gives a vibrant snapshot of Mumbai, complete with kitsch multi-colored tiffin boxes at Mumbai Central. The Vaibhavi Merchant-choreographed ‘Fatal Attraction’ is a thumping house track with rib-vibrating bass and rave worthy synths: though great in a club, such instrumental tracks without Hindi lyrics lack that retention factor. Watch out for Parineeti, Aditi and Dipannita, glammed to the max, in credit closer ‘Thug Le’.
It’s usually ‘Kajra Re’ that the Yash Raj banner pays subtle reference to. This time, however, they have gone with Tashan. Look out for the film posters in one scene and Anushka’s ‘Dil Dance Maare’ micro-item song!
Don’t leave the auditorium in the final minutes – a la many Hindi film audiences – or you will miss the comic revelation in the final ‘Ricky Bahl’ reveal.
I am going with three and a half stars. A Yash Raj film is always a cinematic treat. This is not a Band Baaja Baaraat hangover, this is Ladies v/s Ricky Bahl, and you know what, I am glad.

Kapil Sharma and Yuvraaj Parashar have shot a music video for Nowegian group The Hungry Hearts Pin-Up Performance Band.
The Dunno Y… Na Jaane Kyun stars were approached to appear in the promo for the lesbian music group’s new track ‘Captain in the Sky’, following the screening of their debut release at an Israeli film festival.
Tonje Gjevjon, the artistic leader of the group reveals, “Our latest single ‘Captain in the Sky’ is a song about women dreaming of attention and love from unreachable men. We have actually never considered using men in our performances or videos before.”
“But when we saw Dunno Y… Na Jaane Kyun in Israel we were stunned by the guys’ exotic looks with a combination of beauty, innocence, tenderness and masculinity.”
Model-turned-actor Yuvraaj, on his experience of working with them says: “It was wonderful to work with international crew, they are so quick and organised. In fact I am in love with Norway.”
Kapil on his first music video says, “I was looking forward to do a music video as I love dancing but had never imagined it would start with an international single. Not bad.”
The actors gay-themed release Dunno Y… Na Jaane Kyun has been screened at a number of international festivals including the UK, US, Australia and Israel.
Veteran actors Helen and Zeenat Aman also feature in the 2010 project, which is widely regarded as Indian cinema’s Brokeback Mountain.
Edith, the lead vocalist of Hungry Hearts adds, “It was fun to shoot with these boys – they are thorough professionals. They have added a Bollywood feel to the song.”

Yash Raj Films are synonymous with love stories, and with their second release from newly launched youth division Y-Films, the production house stick to what they know best: a story about love.
A romantic comedy set against the backdrop of social networking, Mujhse Fraaandship Karoge tells the tale of two losers, Vishal (Saqib Saleem) and Preity (Saba Azad) who fake their online identities in an attempt to get the attention of drop dead gorgeous Malvika (Tara D’Souza) and rockstar Rahul (Nishant Dahiya). What they do not realize, is that the person they hate most in the real world, just happens to be the same person they have fallen in love with online.
So, the premise for the season’s most screwed up love story, is: Rahul loves Malvika. And Malvika loves Rahul. But Rahul is not Rahul. Rahul is Vishal. And Vishal loves Malvika too. But Malvika is not Malvika either. Malvika is Preity. And Preity loves Rahul. But Preity hates Vishal. And Vishal hates Preity. Got it? Good.
From the opening scene with a naked guitarist gone viral, it is clear that director Nupur Asthana – previously known for cult TV shows like Hip Hip Hurray and Mahi Way – is firmly targeting the 18-30 demographic. MTV style jump cuts, speeded up segments and innovative camera angles, do not let us forget that this is a film for the youth.
We have a vague plot centered on a college project to celebrate the founder’s day of the college. Add to that a cast of shiny, happy students, in a campus where seemingly everything takes place except the small matter of study. Throw in shirtless boys and debut heroines not yet at the ‘no-bikini-clause-in-my-
Asthana scores bonus points for tapping into the language of young, urban India. So people are ‘despo’ and things are ‘obvo’. A ‘Jawaani Booty Booty’ (don’t ask, just watch) MMS scandal and a ‘BRB’ Facebook status announcing the intermission, will appeal to those always on Facebook – day and night.
As anyone in Bollywood will tell you, launching not one – but four newcomers – is a big risk. Here we have no established stars to support the debut actors, as YRF had tried previously with Shah Rukh Khan and Amitabh Bachchan in Mohabbatein. Nor have we taken the star offspring route Karan Johar is currently travelling down in his forthcoming Student of the Year.
With indie musician Raghu Dixit onboard as composer, Mujhse Fraaandship Karoge has created a soundtrack to rival the popularity of ‘Pappu Can’t Dance’ (Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na), and the I Hate Luv Storys title track. ‘Dheaon Dheaon’, a tribute to the South Indian street music form of Dappan Koothu, has been given a fusion feel with hip-hop and rap influences. Sung by Vishal Dadlani and Aditi Singh, the song is already a hit across music channel platforms. ‘Uh-Oh Uh Oh!’ is charming and likeable, picturised with a funky choreographed campus dance. ‘Chhoo Le’ brings Suraj Jagan belted out vocals into a modern twist on the classic stadium rock track.
As is de rigueur for every Yash Raj release post Bunty aur Babli, we are also treated to a bonus track, in the form of a karaoke version of ‘Kajra Re’ sung in the back of a speeding rickshaw.
Performance wise, Saqib Salim as loser Vishal gets my vote. Nishant Dahiya delivers a confident debut as the equally confident Rahul. Katrina Kaif fans will see something of the star in Tara D’Souza (an identikit accent for starters), while Saba Azad brings the cuteness of Genelia to the table. Pay close attention to how Preity goes through a post-interval metamorphosis. Graduating from checked shirts and hideously oversized jeans (1974 called and wants its denim back), to a sleek and sophisticated conventional Bollywood heroine look.
Without giving the movie away, the climax – all about love, pyaar, ishq, mohabbatein – ties up the story so that everything is as it should be, and everyone is with who they should be. The final reels have fun with a photo story montage, and seem to do the trick of preventing the audience of rushing en masse to the exit sign before the movie is properly over.
In the pre-Diwali rush to release everything and anything before the arrival of a certain Shah Rukh Khan sci-fi project, Mujhse Fraaandship Karoge jostles for a place in the crowded box office with four other releases. While its target audience will get it, and in urban centres the movie should do well, non-multiplex audiences, however, might literally not connect with this love story.
On the whole, BollySpice is quite happy to make fraaandship with the film (though perhaps on limited profile). It is not just another love story. ‘It’s complicated’ and we ‘Like’.

After tracking down the actor from Bangkok to Mumbai to Pune, the Tanu Weds Manu star told BollySpice: “I am not ready for marriage. I will take a lot of time to get married. I think that Tanu is a different character as I am a different person, and my priority is not marriage right now.”
The 23-year-old is riding high, after her latest release opposite Madhavan defies industry expectations by bringing home bigger collections the longer it is screened.
Kangana gave us a clear indication of where she sees her future in Bollywood. “I’m not one of those actors who say ‘I have to work with Shah Rukh Khan’ or certain people or production houses, or anything like that,” the award-winning actor said. “What I would like to do is work on good projects and with talented people.”
With Tanu Weds Manu out now, the who-dunnit Game arriving next month and Double Dhamaal releasing in June, we wanted to know when the busy star would start filming on the follow-up to last year’s hit Once Upon a Time in Mumbai.
“Well, nobody has even spoken to me about the sequel. Not yet. So I can’t really comment.”
