The post KUWAIT IS CALLING FOR SMARTER CONSUMPTION. IKEA IS PROUD TO BE PART OF THE CHANGE. appeared first on bazaar.town.
]]>Making a difference does not have to be complicated. In fact, some of the most meaningful changes can start with the things we already do every day. Switching off the lights when we leave a room. Using water a little more thoughtfully. Keeping the cool air inside. Making a favourite piece of furniture last a little longer. Individually, they may seem modest. Together, they can have a meaningful impact. That is the spirit behind Kuwait’s nationwide call to reduce electricity and water consumption, particularly during peak hours. It is a chance for everyone to step up as a community and play a part in protecting the valuable resources we all depend on.

And we already have the tools to make the change. For IKEA, caring for people and the planet has long been part of the way it does business. IKEA has a vision: “To create a better everyday life for the many people,” which guides in creating positive changes and making sustainable living accessible to as many people as possible.
At the heart of IKEA’s approach is the value Lead by Example. By embedding sustainability into its own operations, IKEA demonstrates that meaningful change starts from within and that sustainable living can be made accessible to the many.

IKEA LEADS BY EXAMPLE
In responding to Kuwait’s call for more responsible consumption, IKEA is putting this commitment into action across its stores and facilities. Across its stores and facilities, IKEA is taking practical steps to reduce energy and water consumption.
These include switching off lights and electrical equipment when they are not in use, improving cooling efficiency and limiting the use of high-energy equipment during peak hours wherever possible, while encouraging more thoughtful use of water.
These may seem like small changes, but when practiced consistently, they can make a meaningful difference and show how everyday actions can contribute to a more sustainable future for Kuwait.
IKEA continuously monitors energy, water and waste across its stores, implementing practical measures to improve efficiency and reduce its environmental footprint. It is an ongoing process, grounded in the belief that businesses can be a positive force for change in society. For IKEA, sustainability is not something to do later. It is something to keep working on today – and every day.

Save Water, Stay Comfortable
Every drop matters. Saving water starts with smarter choices, which does not mean changing the way we live. IKEA water-saving taps and fittings, available for less than KD 3–4, are designed to reduce water consumption while maintaining the comfort and performance you expect. From washing dishes and preparing food to showering, washing our hands and watering plants, small changes to the way water is used can make more efficient consumption part of the everyday routine. Combined with simple everyday habits, they help make water efficiency a seamless part of daily life. Because when it comes to making a difference, sometimes the smallest change is also the simplest one.

Keep Cool, More Efficiently
In Kuwait, staying cool is a necessity. But there are smart ways to help our homes and workplaces manage the heat. Thermal-insulating curtains and blinds can help reduce the amount of heat entering a room, potentially reducing the need for cooling and helping air conditioning systems work more efficiently. There are also simple everyday actions that can make a difference. Keeping doors and windows closed while the air conditioning is running can prevent energy loss, while setting the air conditioning to 24°C can support more efficient cooling. Comfort and responsible consumption do not have to be opposites. With the right choices, we can work towards both.
Let The Daylight In
Why rely on artificial light when the sun is already doing the job? Light-filtering curtains and blinds can provide privacy while allowing natural daylight into a room, potentially reducing reliance on artificial lighting during the day. It is an easy change that can make a space feel bright and welcoming while helping us make better use of what is already available. When artificial lighting is needed, choosing energy-efficient LED bulbs, available for around KD 2, is a smart choice: they use less electricity than traditional bulbs, last much longer, and can help reduce energy consumption over time. Simply switching lights off when leaving the room can help us use electricity even more efficiently.

WE CAN ALL MAKE A DIFFERENCE
Sustainability is not only about how we use what we own, but also what we choose to bring into our homes in the first place. Choosing well-designed, durable products that can stay in use for longer can reduce the need for replacement and the resources required to produce something new. IKEA brings well-designed, functional, durable, affordable and sustainable home furnishing solutions to millions of people, while also sharing knowledge and ideas that make more sustainable living feel accessible. Whether it is using less water, managing energy more efficiently, reducing waste or making what we already own last longer, we have simple choices at home that can add up to a meaningful difference. And just as IKEA is starting with itself, each of us can start with the choices we make every day.
Make It Last
One of the smartest ways to consume more responsibly is to make better use of the things we already have. A favourite sofa does not have to be replaced simply because its cover looks tired. IKEA offers sofas and upholstered furniture with machine-washable or replaceable covers, making it possible to refresh a familiar piece and give it a completely new look. There are also solutions for repairing, refreshing and caring for furniture, from spare parts and repair tools to products that help wooden furniture last longer. IKEA products are increasingly designed with reuse, repair and recycling in mind. There are simple ways to help furniture last longer or be used again. So before replacing something, why not see what it could become with a little care? Sometimes, the most sustainable choice is also the one that lets us keep enjoying something we already love.

Choose Materials With A Future
Making more conscious choices can also start by looking at what the things around us are made from. Choosing materials at IKEA is about making responsible decisions. When they’re not able to use renewable resources, they choose recycled or recyclable ones. In all that is created, the goal is always to keep prices low and quality high. This gives consumers more opportunities to make choices that support a more circular approach to home furnishing. From products made with recycled materials to sustainably sourced cotton, IKEA is working to make more sustainable materials part of everyday life. Its approach to cotton, for example, has focused on sources that use less water, pesticides and fertilisers since 2015. The good news is that choosing more consciously does not mean compromising on style, function or affordability. The result is more choice for people who want to furnish their homes beautifully while making more responsible decisions for the future.
FROM SMALL ACTIONS TO A BIGGER VISION
For IKEA, these everyday solutions are part of a much bigger sustainability journey. From increasing its efforts around energy efficiency and water saving solutions. to working towards a more circular economy, IKEA is continuing to find ways to use resources more responsibly and make it easier for people to do the same. By offering products and solutions that can be reused, upgraded, repaired and recycled, while sharing knowledge that encourages more sustainable living, IKEA is helping turn conscious choices into everyday possibilities. Because change does not have to be difficult. Many of the tools we need are already within reach. And when each of us makes a few more conscious choices, we can create a bigger impact for our homes, our communities and our beloved Kuwait.

]]>That is where Brain Blasterz comes in. Known for its adventurous sour candy, the range turns snack time into an experience, with different flavors, textures, and levels of sourness to explore. The brand’s products include chewy candies, gum, sour powder, hard candy and more, giving kids plenty of ways to discover their favorite.
BUILD A LUNCHBOX THEY WANT TO OPEN
Think of the lunchbox as a collection of little surprises rather than one big meal. Start with the basics: something filling, something fresh, something crunchy and a small treat.
A sandwich can become more exciting simply by cutting it into stars, hearts or little squares. Add sliced fruit, cucumber or carrots in separate compartments so everything stays fresh and colorful. Then finish with one small Brain Blasterz treat for a sour surprise.

The individual portions also make it easy to keep treats manageable. A few sour chewy candies, for example, can add a pop of flavor without taking over the entire lunchbox. The Sour Chewy Candies come in Apple, Blueberry, Lemon and Strawberry, and their resealable packaging makes it easy to save the rest for later. They are also vegan.

TAKE THE SOUR CHALLENGE!
Kids love a challenge, so why not make snack time interactive? Try creating a weekly “Sour Challenge” where they choose a flavor and rate it from one to five. Or let them pick their own snack adventure at the beginning of the week: sweet, sour, chewy or something with a little more bite.
Brain Blasterz already has its own Impact Scale, ranging from Intro to Bold to Brave, making the idea of working your way up through different sour experiences particularly easy to turn into a family game.
It is also a good excuse to let kids take a little ownership of their snacks. Give them a few options and let them choose which one goes into their lunchbox each morning. It saves parents from having to make every decision while giving kids a sense that their lunch is theirs.
KEEP AFTER-SCHOOL SNACKS SIMPLE
The period between getting home and sitting down to homework can be chaotic. Instead of reaching for whatever is easiest, create a small snack station in the kitchen with a few ready-to-grab options.
Fresh fruit, yogurt, cheese, crackers and nuts can form the basics, while a small Brain Blasterz treat can make the whole thing feel more like an after-school reward.
You can also turn snack preparation into five-minute activities. Make fruit skewers together, build a yogurt bowl with different toppings or create a mini “snack board” with a few small portions. Add a sour candy at the end and suddenly an everyday snack feels like an occasion.
For older kids, try a DIY tasting session. Put a few different flavors into small bowls and let them guess which one they are trying before revealing the answer. Brain Blasterz’s range is made for this kind of playful experimentation, with sourness, flavor, and texture all part of the experience.

THE EASY-PARENT FORMULA
The best lunchbox ideas are the ones that do not require an extra hour in the kitchen. Keep a simple formula: one filling food + one fruit or vegetable + one crunchy option + one fun treat.
Prepare a few components on the weekend, keep fruit washed and ready to go, portion snacks ahead of time and let the kids choose from what is available. You can even create a week’s worth of “surprises” by putting different treats aside and letting them discover what is waiting in their lunchbox each morning.
It is less about making every lunch Pinterest-perfect and more about adding small moments of fun to a routine that can otherwise become repetitive.
Because back-to-school does not have to mean boring. With a little imagination, the lunchbox can become something kids look forward to, after-school snacking can feel like a mini adventure, and parents can keep the whole thing refreshingly simple.
And when the day has been full of classes, homework and activities, a little sour-powered fun might be exactly what everyone needs.
READY TO BLAST YOUR SNACK TIME? Brain Blasterz products, including the new Gummies range, can be found at keeelkw.com, supermarkets and local co-ops across Kuwait.

]]>The post BACK TO ROUTINE, BUT SMARTER WITH XCITE appeared first on bazaar.town.
]]>September marks a fresh start. Students head back to classrooms and universities, professionals settle back into their routines, and homes return to a familiar rhythm after the slower pace of summer. As our days become busier, technology has become an essential part of keeping everything running smoothly.
Power Up Productivity
Whether you’re heading to university, returning to the office or simply looking to stay more organised, having the right devices can make a noticeable difference. Laptops and tablets from Apple, Samsung, Lenovo, HP and Acer offer flexible options for studying, working and staying connected, while accessories from Logitech, Anker and Belkin can help create a more productive workspace.
The goal isn’t simply to have more technology; it’s about having technology that works around your lifestyle and helps you get more done.

Stay Connected, Wherever the Day Takes You
Busy routines don’t stop when you leave home. Smartphones, smartwatches and wireless earbuds make it easier to stay connected throughout the day.
The latest smartphones from Apple, Samsung, Xiaomi, HONOR and Motorola, paired with wearables from Apple, Samsung and WHOOP, can help you manage calls, notifications, schedules and more while you’re on the move. For those who prefer to stay focused, wireless audio from brands such as Bose, JBL and Samsung makes it easy to take your music and entertainment with you.

Create a Space That Works for You
A productive routine starts with the right environment. Whether it’s a dedicated study area, a home office or simply a corner of your bedroom, the right technology can transform the way you work and study.
A monitor from Samsung, LG or ASUS can make multitasking easier, while printers from HP and Canon can simplify everyday assignments and documents. Add a comfortable Logitech keyboard and mouse, along with Anker or Belkin accessories, and even a small space can become a more efficient workspace.

When It’s Time to Switch Off
Getting back into a routine isn’t only about productivity. After a long day, technology can also help you relax.
A cinematic TV from Samsung, LG, Sony or TCL can turn an ordinary evening into movie night, while soundbars and speakers from Bose, JBL and Samsung can create a more immersive entertainment experience. For gaming, PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo offer everything from competitive multiplayer sessions to relaxing solo adventures.
Whether you’re catching up on your favorite series, competing with friends or simply listening to music, the right setup can make downtime something to look forward to.

A Smarter Way Forward
Getting back into routine doesn’t have to mean going back to the same old habits. With the right technology, everyday moments can become more productive, connected and enjoyable.
At Xcite, the start of a new season is an opportunity to discover technology from the world’s leading brands, including Apple, Samsung, Sony, LG, HP, Lenovo, Bose, JBL and more—with devices designed around the way you live, work, study and unwind.
Because sometimes, a smarter routine starts with a smarter upgrade.

]]>The post TOYOTA NAMED MOST INFLUENTIAL AUTOMOTIVE BRAND appeared first on bazaar.town.
]]>Toyota has been recognized as the Most Influential Automotive Brand in Kuwait for 2026 by Ipsos, a global leader in market research. The award was presented as part of Ipsos’ inaugural “Most Influential Brands (MIB) in Kuwait 2026” study, which examines the brands that have the strongest influence on consumers in the country.
The MIB study, conducted by Ipsos in January 2026, surveyed 1,489 adults aged 18 and above residing in Kuwait through computer-aided personal interviews. The results were weighted to census data to ensure the sample was representative of Kuwait’s population. The study evaluated 98 national and global brands across 15 categories, providing a broad look at the brands that have established the strongest connections with consumers in Kuwait.
Rather than measuring brand awareness alone, the study assessed influence across six core dimensions: Trustworthiness, Leading Edge, Corporate Citizenship, Engagement, Utility, and Empathy. Together, these dimensions offer a picture of how brands are perceived not only for what they offer, but also for the role they play in consumers’ everyday lives.
Within the automotive sector, Toyota was identified as the leading brand, reflecting strong consumer perceptions of trust, reliability, and its long-standing presence in the Kuwaiti market. The recognition highlights the strength of a brand that has become closely associated with the everyday mobility needs of consumers, while continuing to evolve alongside changing expectations around technology, innovation, and customer experience.
The wider findings of the study also offer insight into what matters most to consumers in Kuwait today. Trustworthiness and Leading Edge emerged as the strongest drivers of brand influence, followed by Engagement and Corporate Citizenship. The results underscore the importance consumers place on brands that are dependable and forward-thinking, while remaining responsive to the communities and customers they serve.
For Toyota, the recognition therefore represents more than a category win. It reflects the continued relevance of the brand within a competitive automotive landscape and the strength of the relationship it has built with consumers over time. Its presence in Kuwait, supported by ALSAYER Group, has helped establish Toyota as a familiar name across generations of drivers.
According to Bader Faisal Al-Sayer, Senior Marketing Manager for Toyota at ALSAYER, “This recognition from Ipsos is a testament to the trust the people of Kuwait continue to place in Toyota and a source of great pride for our entire team. For decades, ALSAYER has worked to bring Toyota’s promise of quality, reliability, and innovation to every customer we serve.”
The recognition also reinforces the importance of maintaining consumer trust in an increasingly dynamic automotive industry. As expectations continue to evolve, brands are being challenged to combine established strengths with innovation, meaningful engagement, and a clear understanding of what customers value.
ALSAYER Group will continue to build on this recognition by deepening its commitment to customer trust, product innovation, and community engagement across Kuwait, in line with Toyota’s global vision of mobility for all. For a market where automotive brands form an important part of everyday life, Toyota’s recognition as Kuwait’s Most Influential Automotive Brand reflects the enduring value of a brand that consumers continue to know, trust, and choose.

]]>The post THE CASE FOR THE GOOD ROOM appeared first on bazaar.town.
]]>It is time to bring back the good room.
MAKE EVERYDAY LIFE FEEL SPECIAL
The idea of a room reserved for entertaining is hardly new. Formal sitting rooms and parlors once played an important role in the home, providing dedicated spaces for conversation and receiving guests. Over time, however, many homes became more informal, with everyday living increasingly centered around multifunctional spaces. There is nothing wrong with that, but perhaps we have lost something along the way: the pleasure of having a room that feels a little more special simply because it is beautiful.
A beautiful room does not need to justify its existence through constant use. It can simply make an ordinary Tuesday feel slightly more considered. Put flowers on the table even when nobody is coming over, light the candle you have been saving, and use the beautiful glasses with dinner on a random Wednesday. You are the occasion.
STOP SAVING THE GOOD STUFF
Most of us have objects that exist in a strange state of permanent anticipation. The good china is waiting for Christmas, the linen napkins are waiting for dinner guests, the expensive perfume is waiting for somewhere important, and the beautiful stationery is waiting for the right person to write to. Somehow, years can pass while all these things remain untouched.
There is a certain pleasure in using things rather than preserving them. A handmade plate becomes more meaningful when it carries your breakfast, linen becomes softer through use, and a beautiful glass develops memories when it has been part of countless evenings. Beautiful things were made to participate in life, not simply to survive it.
DESIGN FOR YOUR OWN PLEASURE
Interior design can easily become a performance. We think about what looks impressive in photographs, what will impress visitors, or what will make the house feel finished. But a home is experienced primarily by the people who live in it, so their pleasure should matter most.
If you love a dramatic chair, put it somewhere you can actually sit in it. If you love a particular color, use it in a room you spend time in. If you collect ceramics, display them where you can see them rather than hiding them away because they are too precious. The most successful homes are not necessarily the most perfect. They are the ones that reveal something about the people who inhabit them.
LET THE ROOM LIVE
The good room does not need to remain immaculate. Use it. Leave a book on the coffee table, let a blanket find its way onto the sofa, put your morning coffee down beside the vase, and allow sunlight to move across the furniture while flowers slowly wilt. A room that is constantly protected from life can begin to feel like a showroom, while a room that is lived in acquires character.
That does not mean abandoning care. It means understanding that wear is not always damage. Sometimes it is evidence that something has been loved. The small marks, softened fabrics and objects that have clearly been handled can tell a much more interesting story than a room where everything appears untouched.
INVITE PEOPLE IN
Perhaps the most important function of a beautiful room is that it gives people a reason to gather. Invite friends over without waiting for a major occasion. Have coffee after work, serve dessert on the good plates, open the windows, put music on and stay at the table longer than necessary.
Hospitality does not need to be elaborate. The point is not to create a perfect evening for your guests, but to create an environment where everyone feels comfortable enough to linger. And if nobody comes, use the room anyway. Read there, have your morning coffee there, listen to music or simply sit quietly for a while.
The good room is not really about entertaining other people. It is about refusing to postpone pleasure. Your beautiful things are already here, your home is already here, and there is no reason to wait for a special occasion to enjoy either.

]]>The post THE ART OF THE INTRODUCTION appeared first on bazaar.town.
]]>The good news is that introductions do not need to be elaborate. Their purpose is simply to give people enough information and space to begin a conversation. A thoughtful introduction can make a room feel warmer, help a new person feel included and remove those uncomfortable few seconds when nobody quite knows what to do.
START WITH YOUR OWN NAME
Introducing yourself should be straightforward. Offer your name clearly, make eye contact and, where appropriate, add a small piece of context that gives the other person something to work with. “Hi, I’m Yasmin. I work in publishing” is much more useful than simply offering your name and waiting for the other person to figure out what happens next.
If you are meeting someone in a professional setting, your role can be helpful, while in a social setting you do not need to provide your biography. Keep it natural and allow the conversation to develop from there. If you did not hear someone’s name, simply ask. There is nothing embarrassing about saying, “I’m sorry, I didn’t catch your name.” Pretending to remember it later is considerably more awkward.
WHEN YOU ARE INTRODUCING TWO PEOPLE
If you are the person connecting two strangers, give each of them a reason to be interested in meeting the other. Instead of simply saying, “Sarah, this is Emma. Emma, Sarah,” add a little context: “Sarah, this is Emma. We worked together on the magazine, and Emma has just started her own design studio.”
That extra sentence gives both people something to ask about and prevents the introduction from becoming a dead end. Think of yourself as handing them the first thread of a conversation. Once they have something to pull on, you can step away and let them take it from there.
INTRODUCE THE PERSON WHO NEEDS CONTEXT
Traditional etiquette generally favors introducing a less senior person to someone more senior, but modern social situations are rarely that formal. A more useful approach is to consider who needs the introduction most. If someone has arrived alone at a dinner where they know nobody, introduce them to the people already gathered. If a colleague is meeting a client for the first time, make sure the client knows who everyone is and why they are there.
The goal is not to demonstrate that you know every rule of etiquette. It is to make everyone feel included. A good introduction quietly communicates that the person being introduced belongs in the conversation and has been noticed.
GIVE PEOPLE SOMETHING TO TALK ABOUT
A good introduction should ideally lead somewhere. If you know two people share an interest, mention it. If one person has recently visited somewhere the other is planning to travel to, bring it up. If they work in related fields, say so. You do not need to manufacture a connection or launch into an elaborate explanation. Simply pay attention to the people around you.
Being a good introducer is partly about being observant. Notice who is standing alone, who might have something in common and who would benefit from knowing each other. Sometimes one thoughtful sentence is enough to turn a room full of strangers into a conversation.
DON’T OVERTHINK THE GREETING
There is no universal greeting that works perfectly in every situation. Handshakes, hugs, kisses on the cheek and simple verbal greetings can all be appropriate depending on the people, culture and setting. When in doubt, follow the other person’s lead and respect their personal space. A warm smile and a clear “It’s lovely to meet you” can carry an introduction perfectly well.
The most important thing is not getting every detail of etiquette exactly right. It is showing the other person that you are pleased to meet them and giving them your full attention during those first few moments. People rarely remember whether an introduction was perfectly executed, but they often remember whether they felt comfortable and welcomed.
Because the art of the introduction is ultimately not about knowing the perfect words. It is about noticing people, creating connections and making sure nobody feels like the person standing awkwardly on the edge of the room.

]]>The post MY HUSBAND’S WEDDING TROUSSEAU INCLUDED A TOY appeared first on bazaar.town.
]]>My husband’s wedding trousseau was… interesting. And yes, grooms should absolutely be allowed to carry their well-curated personal possessions too. Here’s to breaking gender boundaries, and, well, to the toys I inherited. Yes, toys. If I’m allowed to call collector’s items that and get away with it, can I? He brought with him figurines of Grendizer from his home in Kuwait to ours in Dubai. They now live on a bookshelf in our bedroom, resting atop his collection of superhero books. The bookshelf is in our bedroom, so we are close, they and we. They are, I must admit, works of art. Sculpted in mean metal, not chipped at any place, and carrying a presence far larger than their miniature size.
“That’s all I could afford,” my husband says, slipping into nostalgia, almost mopiness, about how he could only buy one when he got his first job. Because I know better, I empathize. I don’t remind him that he was a fully grown adult who could have chosen differently. A watch, perhaps? I live in constant vigilance and fear, so I keep reminding him of the loans we have to pay, just in case he is nursing a dream of bringing home another Grendizer (I’ve seen the life-size versions). “The tiny ones speak volumes,” I add, with enthusiasm. The first one and the second one (later) were apparently bought at an action figure and video game parlor in Hawally.
His friends from Kuwait have collections too. I haven’t yet taken this up with their partners. What I do know is this: as boys, it was their show. It was the 1980s. It aired once a week for 30 minutes. It ran in Arabic with no subtitles, and while all of them were studying Arabic in school, they claim that, in any case, the language was not a concern for understanding the essence of what was played. “A robot meets a spaceship,” they say, simplifying their admiration for the childhood hero and adult-age toy. The Grendizer fought the villain of the week in each episode. “He saved the world.” The echo of that belief from the 80s still rings loud enough in the 2000s.
In the 2000s, Grendizer saw a regional resurgence. Its creator, Go Nagai, visited Kuwait in 2009 for a fan meet-and-greet. No points for guessing who stood in those long queues. What followed was a massive, multi-million dollar official franchise revival—spearheaded and heavily sponsored by the Saudi government. In 2022, Saudi Arabia’s Manga Productions (a subsidiary of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman’s MiSK Foundation) partnered with the original Japanese rightsholders, Dynamic Planning. The rest, as they say, is history. The humble hero of the 80s now lives in theme parks and makes appearances on stages. My husband picked up another one, miniature again, thankfully, at the Middle East Film & Comic Con in Dubai. “The days of downloading comics from torrents over choppy internet are long gone,” he reminisces.
So what shines the most about Grendizer in the highly commercialized world of 2026? I’d say the sparkle in the eyes of grown men who still can’t get enough of this ‘Middle Eastern’ toy. Because here’s the thing, it wasn’t even set in Kuwait. Or the Middle East. Maybe Japan. “It looked like the US,” says my husband. So then, what was it about Grendizer that played in Arabic and set in another land that got them all hooked? The answers could run deeper, but this is the one I like: “We were just a bunch of boys who were happy to see Grendizer fight and win.” Childhood, after all, is and should be that simple.
It’s 2026, and I have fully embraced Grendizer in all its avatars. I even spotted a keychain recently. And I thought if women can flaunt Labubu dolls on their bags, why can’t men? If my husband gets the keychain, I’ll allow it, but it won’t be part of our set of home keys. And yes, not long ago, but I did spot a Tissot Grendizer. I could get him something for the anniversary; I can only hope there are enough grown-up fans around to help me crowdfund this one!

]]>The post WHY DOES RESTAURANT FOOD TASTE BETTER? appeared first on bazaar.town.
]]>You know the feeling. You make pasta at home, follow the recipe, plate it nicely and take a bite. It’s good. Perfectly good.
Then you order pasta at a restaurant and suddenly wonder what you have been doing wrong for the last decade.
The ingredients might not even be dramatically different. So why does restaurant food so often taste better?
The answer is less mysterious than you might think. Professional kitchens simply have more experience, more equipment, more time devoted to preparation and, perhaps most importantly, fewer reservations about using the ingredients that make food delicious.
SALT IS NOT THE ENEMY
One of the biggest differences between restaurant cooking and home cooking is seasoning.
Professional cooks taste constantly and adjust throughout the cooking process. Home cooks, meanwhile, can be strangely cautious with salt, adding a little at the beginning and hoping for the best.
Salt does more than make food taste salty. It can enhance other flavors and help a dish taste more balanced. America’s Test Kitchen notes that our saltiness receptors are most responsive when food is between 85 and 95 degrees Fahrenheit, close to the temperature inside our mouths.
The lesson is simple: taste your food before serving it. It may not need more ingredients. It may simply need better seasoning.
FAT IS FLAVOR’S BEST FRIEND
Butter, olive oil, cream, cheese and other fats are not exactly secrets, but restaurants tend to use them with considerably more confidence.
Fat carries and distributes flavor, while ingredients such as butter can add richness and create a satisfying texture. That glossy sauce over your vegetables? It probably did not arrive there through good intentions.
This does not mean pouring half a block of butter into everything you cook. It means understanding that richness is part of the architecture of a dish. A little finishing butter, a drizzle of good olive oil or a spoonful of properly made sauce can transform something that tastes flat into something that feels complete.
HIGH HEAT CHANGES EVERYTHING
Restaurant kitchens are designed for serious cooking. Powerful burners, hot pans and professional equipment allow cooks to develop deep browning and caramelization quickly.
At home, we are often too impatient. We put crowded ingredients into a pan, turn the heat down when everything starts steaming and wonder why our vegetables never develop that beautiful golden exterior.
Give ingredients room. Let the pan get properly hot. Resist the urge to constantly move everything around.
That brown crust is not decoration. It is flavor.
SAUCE IS THE GREAT TRANSFORMER
A restaurant meal often contains more components than we realize.
There may be a sauce, a purée, a reduction, a seasoned oil, pickled vegetables, herbs or a finishing garnish quietly making everything else taste more interesting.
America’s Test Kitchen specifically highlights sauces as a way of transforming otherwise familiar dishes, noting that they can instantly elevate proteins, vegetables and other foods.
At home, we tend to think of sauce as an optional extra. Restaurants understand that it can be the thing that pulls the entire plate together.
THEY HAVE ALREADY DONE THE BORING PART
Perhaps the biggest advantage restaurants have is preparation.
Professional kitchens spend considerable time chopping, marinating, reducing, seasoning and organizing before a dish ever reaches the customer. America’s Test Kitchen describes its own recipe-development process as involving repeated testing of variables before arriving at the final version.
At home, we are trying to do the same thing after work, while hungry, distracted and wondering whether anyone else is going to wash the dishes.
Restaurant food is not necessarily magical. It is the result of repetition, technique and attention to detail.
And there is good news: you do not need a professional kitchen to borrow some of those habits.
Season as you go. Let pans get hot. Do not overcrowd them. Finish with something fresh, rich or acidic. Make a sauce. Taste before serving.
And occasionally, use more butter.
Your kitchen may never become a restaurant. But dinner can certainly start tasting like one.

]]>The post WHY EVERYONE SHOULD KNOW A LITTLE ART HISTORY appeared first on bazaar.town.
]]>Art history can sound intimidating. The names are unfamiliar, the dates seem endless, and somewhere along the way you may have been made to feel that appreciating art requires an advanced degree and the ability to casually identify a Renaissance painting from across a crowded room.
It does not.
You do not need to memorize every artist who ever lived. You do not need to know the difference between every school of modernism. And you certainly do not need to pretend to understand a painting you do not like.
But knowing a little art history can make the world considerably more interesting.
IT TEACHES YOU HOW TO LOOK
We spend an extraordinary amount of time looking without really seeing. We scroll through images, move through buildings, browse stores and encounter advertisements almost constantly, but rarely stop to consider why something looks the way it does.
Art history gives you a vocabulary for paying attention.
Once you understand that artists make deliberate choices about composition, color, scale, light, materials and perspective, you begin noticing those choices everywhere. A room, a photograph, a fashion collection or even an advertising campaign can suddenly become something worth examining rather than simply consuming.
You are not just looking anymore. You are asking why.
IT EXPLAINS THE WORLD THAT CAME BEFORE US
Art does not exist in isolation. It reflects the societies that produced it.
Religious paintings can tell us about belief and power. Portraits can reveal ideas about status and identity. Architecture can reflect technological developments, political ambitions or changing social structures. Even the materials artists use can tell us something about what was available and valued at a particular moment.
Learning the context behind a work can completely change the way you experience it.
A painting stops being an old object hanging on a wall and becomes evidence of how someone, somewhere, once understood their world.
IT MAKES MUSEUMS MORE FUN
Walking into a museum without any context can sometimes feel like being dropped into the middle of a conversation.
You can appreciate what you see, but you may not know what you are supposed to be looking for.
A little art history gives you points of entry. You start recognizing recurring ideas, techniques and influences. You notice when one artist is responding to another or when a movement is deliberately rejecting what came before it.
You do not have to understand everything. You simply have more questions to ask.
And questions are usually much more interesting than memorized answers.
IT HELPS YOU UNDERSTAND MODERN CULTURE
Art history is not confined to museums.
Ideas developed by artists continue to influence graphic design, photography, fashion, interiors, film, advertising and popular culture. Contemporary designers regularly borrow, reinterpret and challenge visual languages that have existed for decades or centuries.
Understanding where those ideas came from makes contemporary culture easier to decode.
That dramatic minimalism you love? It has a history. The decorative maximalism currently filling your social feeds? It has a history too. Even the desire to reject established aesthetics is part of a much longer cycle of artistic rebellion.
Trends rarely appear from nowhere.
IT HELPS YOU DEVELOP YOUR OWN TASTE
Perhaps the best reason to learn art history is that it makes it easier to form an opinion.
You may discover that you love Baroque drama but cannot stand minimalism. You might be fascinated by conceptual art or completely unmoved by it. You might adore an artist whose work everyone else seems to find boring.
That is fine.
The point is not to learn what you are supposed to like. It is to understand what you respond to and why.
Taste becomes more interesting when it is informed by curiosity rather than simply dictated by whatever happens to be fashionable.
You can start anywhere. Pick an artist whose work you already like. Visit a museum and read the descriptions instead of walking past them. Watch a documentary. Learn the broad outlines of a few major movements.
You do not need to become an art historian.
You just need to become a more curious observer.
Because once you start understanding how artists have looked at the world, you may find yourself looking at your own world a little differently too.

]]>The post WHAT IS THE VAGUS NERVE, AND WHY SHOULD YOU CARE? appeared first on bazaar.town.
]]>The vagus nerve has become something of a wellness-world celebrity. You may have seen it mentioned alongside breathwork, cold showers, meditation or “nervous system regulation,” often accompanied by claims that stimulating it can solve everything from anxiety to poor digestion. The reality is less dramatic, but arguably more interesting.
The vagus nerve is the longest cranial nerve in the body, running from the brainstem through the neck and into the chest and abdomen. Its name comes from the Latin word for “wandering,” an appropriate description for a nerve that travels so extensively through the body. It is a major part of the parasympathetic nervous system, which helps regulate involuntary functions including heart rate, breathing and digestion.
YOUR BODY’S COMMUNICATION NETWORK
Think of the vagus nerve as one of the major communication routes between your brain and your internal organs. It carries signals in both directions, allowing the brain to receive information about what is happening inside the body while also influencing how organs respond.
This makes it particularly relevant to the body’s response to stress. When we perceive a threat, the sympathetic nervous system helps prepare us for action. When the threat passes, the parasympathetic system helps the body move toward a calmer state. The vagus nerve is an important component of that latter system.
This does not mean it is a magical “relaxation button.” Your nervous system is an intricate network involving the brain, hormones, organs and many different nerves. But the vagus nerve is an important part of the machinery.
WHY DOES STRESS AFFECT YOUR STOMACH?
The connection between the brain and the digestive system is one reason the vagus nerve gets so much attention. The brain and gut communicate constantly through several pathways, including the vagus nerve.
You have probably experienced this connection without needing a biology lesson. Stress can make your stomach feel unsettled. Excitement can affect your appetite. Anxiety can make you feel nauseated. Your body is constantly communicating with itself, and the gut is very much part of that conversation.
The vagus nerve is involved in regulating digestive activity, although it is only one piece of a much larger system.
CAN YOU “ACTIVATE” IT?
This is where wellness advice can become misleading.
You will find countless techniques online described as ways to “activate” or “stimulate” the vagus nerve, including slow breathing, meditation, singing, humming and cold exposure. Some of these practices can certainly influence the body’s relaxation response, and slow, controlled breathing has been studied in relation to autonomic nervous system activity.
But that is different from claiming that a particular trick can “reset” your vagus nerve or cure a medical condition.
The sensible takeaway is much less glamorous: activities that encourage relaxation, regular breathing, sleep and recovery are generally good habits, and some may influence parasympathetic activity. You do not need an expensive gadget or a complicated protocol to benefit.
SO WHY SHOULD YOU CARE?
Because understanding the vagus nerve can help you understand something fundamental about your body: your brain and your organs are in constant conversation.
Modern life often keeps us in a state of stimulation. Notifications arrive, deadlines accumulate, news never stops and our attention is constantly being pulled somewhere else. Learning how your body responds to stress can encourage you to take recovery seriously rather than treating rest as something you earn after everything else is finished.
A few minutes of slow breathing will not magically transform your nervous system. Neither will humming in the shower.
But taking a moment to breathe slowly, step outside, eat properly, sleep enough and give your brain a break can support the systems that help your body move between alertness and rest.
And perhaps that is the more useful lesson behind the vagus nerve trend. You do not need to “hack” your nervous system.
You need to listen to it.

]]>Perhaps the figures are watching us. Perhaps we are watching them. Meshail would rather not decide.
“The moment I give them one meaning, they stop looking in all those different directions,” she says.
That resistance to certainty sits at the heart of Meshail’s practice. A Kuwaiti visual artist, sculptor and writer, she has spent more than a decade developing a distinctive visual vocabulary, one in which distortion can communicate what realism cannot and a painting does not need to explain itself to be understood.

Art was part of her life long before it became a career. Meshail studied Earth Sciences and Environment at Kuwait University, while pursuing her passion for painting and sculpture. Today, she describes art as “the language through which I felt I could understand and express the world most honestly.”
It is tempting to look at an artist with such a recognizable aesthetic and imagine it was carefully constructed. Meshail says the opposite.
“My visual language developed through repetition, curiosity, and instinct,” she explains. “Certain faces, eyes, distortions, colors, and forms kept returning to my work.”
Over time, those elements became a vocabulary of their own. The enlarged eyes, altered faces and impossible proportions allow her to push the human figure somewhere realism cannot easily go.
“The human figure interests me precisely because it doesn’t have to remain anatomically correct to feel human,” she says. “An enlarged eye, an altered face, or an impossible proportion can communicate a psychological state immediately.”

Beauty With Something Beneath It
Meshail’s paintings occupy an intriguing emotional middle ground. They can be whimsical and tender, but rarely simply pretty. Something feels slightly off. A figure might draw you in at first glance, then another detail shifts the mood entirely.
“I don’t necessarily want someone to look at a painting and immediately decide whether it is beautiful or disturbing,” she says. “I would rather they feel something first and understand it later, or perhaps never fully understand it.”
For Meshail, beauty without tension risks becoming passive. Unease makes us look again. It turns looking into questioning.
That matters in a moment when images are consumed almost instantaneously. Social media has made art extraordinarily accessible, but it has also accustomed us to seeing, absorbing and moving on within seconds. Meshail refuses to paint at that speed.
“A painting should be allowed to reveal itself slowly,” she says. “Sometimes the first thing you notice attracts you, but the second or third thing changes your understanding of the entire image.”

A Story Without an Ending
That invitation to linger extends to narrative. Meshail may begin with a memory, emotion, thought or image, but she does not expect the viewer to arrive at the same story she did.
“I don’t want a painting to function like an explanation,” she says.
Viewers have discovered relationships between figures and meanings in symbols that she never consciously intended. Rather than correcting those interpretations, she welcomes them.
“Once a painting leaves my studio, I think it begins another life. The viewer brings their own memories and experiences to it, and that becomes part of the work.”
Her relationship with storytelling extends beyond the canvas. Meshail created artwork for Mama Hissa’s Mice, Saud Alsanousi’s novel, which required her to enter a world another artist had already constructed through words.
“With literature, there is another voice in the room, the writer’s voice, and I have to find a way for my visual language to meet it without either one overpowering the other,” she explains.
Rather than illustrating a scene literally, she wanted to capture something of the novel’s spirit while keeping the image recognizably her own. The experience also changed the way she approached storytelling in her paintings, showing her how much could exist beyond the visible image.
“Sometimes what you leave outside the painting is as important as what you put inside it.”
It makes sense, then, that if she had not become a visual artist, Meshail believes she would have pursued writing. For her, both disciplines share the same impulse: constructing a world and inviting someone else inside.

Layers of Looking
Even Meshail’s scientific background becomes connected to the way she creates.
“Earth Sciences teaches you to look at surfaces and understand that there are histories underneath them,” she says. “Layers, erosion, transformation, time, structure. These ideas are scientific, but they can also be very poetic.”
Science trained her to observe. Art gave her permission to take those observations somewhere less logical and more intuitive.
She has been doing so since she began exhibiting in 2010, with her work shown across Kuwait and internationally. Looking back, she sees her younger self as an artist searching for a language and trying to understand what genuinely belonged to her.
“Today I know my language better, but the searching hasn’t stopped,” she says. “The difference is that now I’m less interested in finding answers. I’m more interested in finding better questions.”
Those questions are becoming larger in scale. Meshail is increasingly interested in expanding the world of her paintings beyond the canvas through sculpture and immersive works, bringing painting, sculpture, literature and writing together rather than treating them as separate disciplines.
It is easy to imagine the possibilities. What happens when one of those exaggerated eyes no longer looks outward from a canvas, but occupies the same physical space as the viewer? What happens when we can walk through, rather than simply look into, one of Meshail’s worlds?
Perhaps that is where her practice is heading. Not toward answers, but deeper into the uncertainty that has always interested her.
When asked what she hopes visitors take away from an exhibition, Meshail resists prescribing an emotion. Curiosity is welcome. So is discomfort, tenderness or a question they cannot immediately articulate.
What matters is that something remains.
“I like the idea that an image might return to someone’s mind hours or days after they have left the exhibition,” she says. “For me, that lingering memory is more meaningful than immediate understanding.”
Perhaps that is the best way into Meshail Faisal AlJummah’s work. Look once. Look again. Notice what is looking back. And resist the urge to solve it.

]]>“I’m Abdullah.”
There are no titles, positions, or family names attached. For Albenayan, who someone is matters more than the labels attached to them. Ask him in a professional setting, however, and the story becomes a little longer: a mechanical engineer by degree, a traveler, an entrepreneur, and someone who has spent much of his life moving between countries and cultures.

He studied in the United States before moving to the Netherlands, where he worked for a year, followed by two years in Japan and then time in Vietnam. His professional beginnings were in mechanical engineering, working on smaller site projects. But even while studying, he knew there was one thing he did not want for his future.
“I didn’t want to end up working for someone for the rest of my life,” he says. What he wanted was not necessarily to find one perfect career. Instead, he wanted to build a life that would give him the freedom to pursue the things he genuinely loved. “For me, it doesn’t have to be something I like completely,” he explains. “It’s something that I will do that will make me do the things I love.” That distinction has shaped much of his entrepreneurial journey.
Building a Life, Not Just a Career
Albenayan’s businesses have largely been rooted in hospitality and food and beverage, but his relationship with entrepreneurship began with smaller experiments. While living in Japan, he discovered an American company selling elastic shoelaces. Rather than simply becoming a distributor, he contacted the company, negotiated with them, bought samples, sent them to China, and eventually created his own brand, Eyelase, which he brought to Kuwait.
Then came CAF, which he describes as his first major project and the first “baby” he built with his partners. His approach to business is remarkably practical. Before opening anything, he believes entrepreneurs need to answer two fundamental questions: What exactly is your business going to provide, and who are you providing it to? “You need to know your customers before you open a business,” he says.
He also believes every business has to understand where it sits between three key factors: price, quality, and experience. Trying to offer everything at once, he argues, is rarely sustainable. A business needs to understand which of those elements it wants to prioritize and build its proposition accordingly.
That pragmatism has become particularly important in Kuwait’s highly competitive market. “If you can make it in Kuwait, you will make it anywhere else,” he says. But succeeding in such a competitive environment requires something more important than simply having a good idea: adaptability. For Albenayan, one of the biggest lessons of recent years has been that toughness is not necessarily about being the strongest player in the room. It is about being able to change. “Be like water,” he says. “Water with a shape, it will shape the container it’s in.”

The philosophy became especially relevant during the disruptions and economic pressures of recent years, when businesses had to contend with rising costs, changing suppliers, and inflation while trying to maintain the quality customers expected. Being independent and relatively agile, he believes, can be an advantage when circumstances change quickly.
You Can’t Learn to Swim From a Book
Perhaps unsurprisingly, Albenayan’s philosophy on entrepreneurship is rooted more in experience than theory. He has little patience for the idea that simply reading about business is enough to become an entrepreneur. He recalls conversations with friends who consume books about business but have little practical experience, and sums up his position with an analogy that seems particularly fitting for someone who has spent years traveling the world.
“You can’t learn swimming by reading about water,” he says. “You have to jump.” For him, education and experience should work together. Read, study and learn, but then get into the water. That philosophy extends to failure. “Don’t be afraid to take risks,” is one of his first lessons. The second is perhaps even more fundamental: entrepreneurship is not simply about being smart. “It’s about being determined. It’s about committing, commitment, commitment.”
In his view, the difference between someone who succeeds and someone who does not is often less about intelligence than persistence. The successful person keeps trying after the first failure, then the second, then the third. “Failure is your best friend,” he says. “Failure is going to teach you the most.”
It is an attitude that has been tested throughout his own journey. Not every project worked. Some concepts performed well initially before eventually closing, including ventures that he says ended not because of poor performance but because of problems among the partners. The experience reinforced another lesson: even a promising business needs the resilience to withstand unexpected challenges. For Albenayan, that is simply part of the process.

A Different Way of Seeing Kuwait
Long before entrepreneurship became a defining part of his life, there was photography. The passion began when he was young, during a trip to South Africa. Africa remains his favorite place on Earth, and he says he continues to return whenever he can. He began taking photography more seriously in 2007, when he purchased his first professional camera.
For years, however, he rarely shared the photographs. His wife was the one who repeatedly encouraged him to create an account and let people see his work. Eventually, he did. Today, photography remains an important part of his life, but deliberately outside his business identity. “I’m very moody,” he says. “I don’t want to turn it into something commercial. I’m afraid that I will hate it.” That is perhaps one of the most revealing things about Albenayan’s relationship with photography. While he does accept selected professional projects, he is careful about preserving the freedom that made photography meaningful to him in the first place.
Photography is, above all, a release. If he has had a difficult day, he can pick up his camera and disappear into the process. There is no obligation to produce something, no client to satisfy, and no commercial objective to meet. He photographs when he wants to, in the way he wants to. That separation is intentional. “I’d rather keep them separated,” he says of his entrepreneurial and photographic identities.
There is one exception: when the two worlds can benefit each other without compromising his creative freedom. He has occasionally offered hotels photography in exchange for a stay, essentially turning his passion into an opportunity without turning it into a career.
Finding Beauty Close to Home
Travel was initially at the heart of his photography. But over time, Albenayan began to look more closely at home. “Kuwait is beautiful,” he says. “Not everybody is seeing it.” His photography has become a way of showing that side of the country, from its architecture to its landscapes and desert. He is particularly interested in changing the way people perceive places they think they already know. “Everything is beautiful. It depends on how you see it.” It is a philosophy that feels central to his photography. Beauty does not have to conform to one particular idea. A landscape does not need to be green to be beautiful. The desert, he points out, can be peaceful and extraordinary precisely because of what it is.
Photography, then, becomes less about simply recording what is in front of the camera and more about paying enough attention to see it differently.
The Photograph He Can’t Forget
Ask a photographer to choose a favorite photograph and you are likely to get some hesitation. Albenayan initially compares it to asking someone to choose a favorite child.
“I love all my photos,” he says. “They’re all special to me one way or another.” But there is one image that immediately comes to mind. While in Mozambique, Albenayan used a drone to photograph a herd of elephants moving through the landscape. From above, they appeared to be walking in almost perfect formation.
He later learned from a ranger that there was a reason for it. The largest elephants positioned themselves at the front and back of the herd, protecting the younger elephants in between.
The image has received significant attention and was published by National Geographic, according to Albenayan. He has also entered photography competitions, including the Siena photography awards, where one of his submissions was shortlisted and nominated for a grand prize. But the recognition is not necessarily what makes the photographs meaningful to him. The experience of taking them is. There is something particularly fitting about the fact that a photographer who has spent his career building businesses around people, products and experiences finds his greatest creative release in simply observing the world.

Keep the Future for the Future
So what comes next? Albenayan isn’t saying. He is currently working on several projects, describing them as “future babies” that he is developing slowly. Beyond that, he prefers to keep the element of surprise.
“Leave the future for the future,” he says. It is an answer that makes sense coming from someone whose approach to life has always been less about following a predetermined path and more about creating enough freedom to choose the next one.
His businesses have given him the means to travel, explore and photograph. Photography, in turn, gives him a space that belongs entirely to him. Perhaps that is the thread connecting all the seemingly different chapters of Abdullah Albenayan’s life. Engineering, entrepreneurship, travel and photography may look like separate pursuits on paper, but underneath them is the same instinct: learn by doing, stay curious, adapt when circumstances change, and build a life that leaves room for the things that matter.
And sometimes, he suggests, the smartest thing you can do with a talent is simply use it.
“You don’t have to love it. But if you’re good at it, use it. Utilize it.” For Albenayan, that may be the real business of living: knowing what you’re good at, knowing what you love, and making sure you leave enough room for both.

]]>The FDA’s decision comes as PMI continues its transformation toward what it describes as a smoke-free future, with the company developing and scientifically assessing alternatives to conventional cigarettes for adults who would otherwise smoke.
The FDA’s Modified Risk Granted Order states:
“Based on our review of your MRTPAs, we determined that the proposed modified risk tobacco products, as described in your applications and specified in Appendix A, have satisfied the requirements of section 911(g)(1)(A) and (B), including that they, as actually used by consumers, would significantly reduce harm and the risk of tobacco-related disease to individual tobacco users and benefit the health of the population as a whole, taking into account both users of tobacco products and persons who do not currently use tobacco products.”
The agency therefore authorized the products for marketing as modified risk tobacco products with the approved modified-risk information: “Using ZYN instead of cigarettes puts you at a lower risk of mouth cancer, heart disease, lung cancer, stroke, emphysema, and chronic bronchitis.”
The authorization applies to the specific ZYN products identified in the FDA orders and permits PMI U.S. to use the approved modified-risk information when marketing those products in the United States.
In reviewing the ZYN applications, the FDA considered data showing that some adults who smoke and had started using ZYN products reduced their cigarette consumption over time. More than half of those surveyed reported no cigarette consumption in the previous 30 days.
Among those who continued to smoke after starting to use ZYN, 80.7% reduced their cigarette consumption, while 57.2% reduced the number of cigarettes they smoked per day by more than 50%.
The data formed part of the evidence submitted by PMI in support of its MRTP applications.
Unlike cigarettes, which burn tobacco and produce smoke that is inhaled, ZYN nicotine pouches deliver nicotine through absorption in the oral mucosa.
PMI says this results in substantially lower exposure to harmful and potentially harmful chemicals compared with smoking cigarettes. The company describes the distinction as central to its broader shift toward smoke-free alternatives.
The FDA authorization represents a significant regulatory milestone for the nicotine pouch category, while also underscoring the distinction between modified-risk authorization and a finding that the products are risk-free. The authorization specifically concerns the relative risk of the authorized products compared with cigarettes.
For PMI, the decision marks another step in its ongoing transformation toward a smoke-free future, backed by what the company describes as rigorous scientific assessment and transparent risk evaluation.

Choosing Your Perfect Escape
The beauty of a long weekend lies in its simplicity. Instead of trying to see everything, focus on experiencing the rhythm of one city. Enjoy unhurried breakfasts, wander without an itinerary, discover neighborhood cafés, and leave room for unexpected moments.

After all, the most memorable journeys aren’t always the longest. Sometimes they’re simply the ones you finally decided to take.

]]>Mike Conway, Kamui Kobayashi and Nyck de Vries guided the No. 7 Toyota TR010 Hybrid Electric Hypercar to a memorable victory after completing 381 gruelling laps in a race time of 24:03:01.030. Their winning margin of just 10.913 seconds highlighted the intensity of one of the closest editions of Le Mans in recent years. Teammates Sébastien Buemi, Brendon Hartley and Ryō Hirakawa completed an exceptional weekend for TOYOTA RACING by finishing third in the No. 8 Toyota TR010 Hybrid Electric Hypercar, crossing the line after the same 381 laps in 24:03:21.447 to secure a coveted double podium finish.
The result marks another milestone in Toyota’s remarkable endurance racing legacy, built on more than six decades of motorsport innovation and competition.

Reflecting on the hard-earned victory, Kamui Kobayashi, Team Principal and driver of the No. 7 car, said:
“It was very challenging for us, but we never gave up. Vehicle No. 7 has had a lot of second places at Le Mans but finally we got our second win. We have waited so long for this victory and it feels amazing. The whole week was not easy, including the race which was not smooth. We had a puncture early and that made it tough for us. But Mike, Nyck, our engineers and our pit crew did a great job. It was an incredible day. Thank you to everyone who made it happen, including all the fans who make this such a special event.”
A crowd of 350,105 spectators witnessed a race defined by strategy, resilience and relentless pace. After modest qualifying positions in Hyperpole, both Toyota crews gained valuable ground through an aggressive fuel strategy that allowed them to challenge the frontrunners early in the race.
The No. 7 crew recovered impressively from an early puncture before steadily climbing through the field, posting a fastest lap of 3:25.155 along the way. Meanwhile, the No. 8 Toyota TR010 Hybrid Electric Hypercar led during the opening stages before overcoming several setbacks to remain in podium contention, ultimately recording the team’s quickest lap of the race with a 3:25.041.
The decisive moment came when a late safety car with fewer than six hours remaining compressed the field, setting up a dramatic sprint to the finish. A series of bold overtakes propelled both Toyota Hypercars into a one-two formation with three hours remaining, before Conway, Kobayashi and de Vries held their nerve to deliver a landmark victory. Buemi, Hartley and Hirakawa rounded out an outstanding team performance by securing third place, reinforcing Toyota’s reputation for consistency under pressure.

The result extends TOYOTA RACING’s lead in the FIA World Endurance Championship manufacturers’ standings to 36 points, while Conway, Kobayashi and de Vries move to the top of the drivers’ championship heading into the next round.
Toyota’s philosophy that “roads build people and cars” continues to shape its approach to motorsport. The lessons learned under the extreme demands of endurance racing directly influence the development of ever-better road cars, with the FIA World Endurance Championship serving as one of the brand’s most important proving grounds for hybrid technology, performance and reliability.
The championship now heads to Brazil for the 6 Hours of São Paulo at the legendary Interlagos circuit, where TOYOTA RACING will look to build on its momentum as the 2026 season continues.

]]>The post 5 VIDEO GAMES THAT ARE MEANT TO BE PLAYED AS A COUPLE appeared first on bazaar.town.
]]>Co-op games turn gaming into something genuinely social. You communicate, solve problems, celebrate victories, and occasionally discover that the person you love cannot follow the very simple instruction, “Do not jump yet.”
Whether one of you is a lifelong gamer or neither of you knows which button does what, these five games make playing together part of the experience.
It Takes Two
The clue is quite literally in the name.
It Takes Two was built exclusively for two players and follows Cody and May, a married couple considering divorce who are magically transformed into tiny dolls. To return to their bodies, they have to navigate a wildly imaginative world while, appropriately enough, learning to work together.
Every level introduces new mechanics, from platforming and puzzles to flying, fighting, and occasionally competing against each other. Neither player can progress alone, so communication is essential.
It is funny, inventive, occasionally emotional, and possibly the closest a video game has come to disguising couples therapy as date night.
Split Fiction
From Hazelight Studios, the team behind It Takes Two, Split Fiction is another adventure created specifically for two.
This time, players become Mio and Zoe, two writers trapped inside simulations of their own stories. One writes science fiction, the other fantasy, which means the game constantly jumps between completely different worlds, mechanics, and ridiculous scenarios.
You might be escaping a futuristic city one moment and riding a dragon the next.
The constant change makes it particularly good for couples who get bored easily, while the cooperative gameplay means neither person gets relegated to watching the other have all the fun.
Overcooked! 2
Want to discover how your relationship handles pressure? Open a restaurant together.
Overcooked! 2 gives you increasingly chaotic kitchens where you must chop ingredients, cook dishes, wash plates, and serve customers against the clock.
Sounds simple.
It is not.
Kitchens move. Platforms disappear. Fires happen. Somebody inevitably forgets the rice.
Success requires dividing responsibilities and communicating quickly, making it either an excellent bonding exercise or the reason you spend the next hour discussing why nobody washed a plate.
Proceed with love.
Unravel Two
For something significantly calmer, Unravel Two follows two tiny characters made from yarn who are physically connected as they travel through a beautiful platforming world.
That connection forms the heart of the gameplay. You swing from one another, create bridges, solve environmental puzzles, and help each other reach places neither character could access alone.
It is gentle, visually beautiful, and far less likely to cause an argument than running a kitchen together.
It is also approachable for less experienced players, making it a great choice when one half of the couple is more comfortable with a controller than the other.
Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes
One player can see a bomb.
The other has the instructions for defusing it.
Discuss.
Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes is built entirely around communication. The player handling the bomb describes its modules while the other searches the manual for instructions, without seeing the bomb themselves.
The puzzles become increasingly complicated, the timer keeps ticking, and suddenly discovering whether your partner understands what you mean by “the weird squiggly symbol” feels extremely important.
You will learn a great deal about how well you communicate under pressure.
Possibly too much.
The best co-op games do something single-player games cannot: they turn the person beside you into part of the game itself. Winning requires communication, patience, problem-solving, and occasionally forgiving someone for accidentally throwing your character off a cliff.
So grab two controllers, order something easy for dinner, and pick your challenge.
Just remember that whatever happens in Overcooked! stays in Overcooked!.

]]>The post WHY YOU SHOULD HATE-READ BOOKS appeared first on bazaar.town.
]]>There is something wonderfully liberating about abandoning a novel 60 pages in because you cannot tolerate the protagonist for another moment. The DNF pile exists for a reason, and nobody is handing out medals for finishing books you hate.
But occasionally, keep going.
Hate-reading, the peculiar experience of continuing a book precisely because it is driving you mad, can be surprisingly rewarding. You roll your eyes. You complain to friends. You take photographs of particularly offensive paragraphs and send them to the group chat. And somehow, you cannot stop reading.
This is not wasted reading time. You may actually be developing better taste.
Hating Something Requires an Opinion
It is easy to say a book is “not for me.” It is much more interesting to figure out why.
Do you hate the prose? Is the dialogue unbelievable? Does the protagonist make decisions no functioning human would make? Is the plot predictable, or are you irritated because the author refused to give you the ending you wanted?
Dislike becomes useful when you interrogate it.
The same applies to almost every creative field. Knowing what you dislike, and being able to articulate why, helps define what you value. A terrible reading experience can reveal your preferences with surprising precision.
Congratulations. You hated the book, but you learned something about yourself.
You Might Be Wrong
There is another, considerably more irritating possibility: the book might be good.
Sometimes discomfort is intentional. An unlikeable narrator may be unlikeable for a reason. The pacing you initially found frustrating may reveal its purpose later. A writing style that feels unfamiliar may simply require adjustment.
Literary critic Harold Bloom wrote that reading well involves being open to works that challenge our expectations rather than merely confirming them. Great books do not always make themselves immediately agreeable.
Occasionally, the novel you spent 200 pages arguing with becomes the one you are still thinking about six months later.
That does not mean you secretly loved it. It might mean the book did something more interesting than please you.
It Gets You Out of the Algorithm
Recommendation algorithms are exceptionally good at giving us more of what we already like.
Loved this thriller? Here are 47 similar thrillers. Enjoyed this romance trope? Here it is again with different character names.
Convenient, certainly. But endless personalization can make our cultural diets remarkably repetitive.
Reading something outside your preferences, even something you end up despising, interrupts that loop. You encounter different ideas, structures, perspectives, and styles.
Not every encounter needs to become a new favorite to have been worthwhile.
Complaining Is Half the Fun
There is a deeply social pleasure in reading a terrible book with someone else.
Start a hate-read book club. Pick something divisive. Agree to finish it. Meet afterward with snacks and grievances.
Unlike a universally beloved novel, where everyone spends twenty minutes agreeing that it was beautiful, a polarizing book gives you something to discuss.
Defend the character everyone hates. Argue about the ending. Read out the line that nearly made you throw the book across the room.
Reading does not always need to be reverent.
Sometimes books are entertainment, and sometimes the entertainment is complaining about the book.
But Know When to Quit
Not every bad book deserves 400 pages of your life.
If you are bored rather than irritated, leave. If reading has become homework, move on. Hate-reading only works when the dislike itself is entertaining or when the book is provoking enough thought to keep you curious.
The goal is not suffering for literature.
It is occasionally resisting the impulse to consume only things perfectly calibrated to please you.
So next time a book annoys you, give it another chapter before returning it to the shelf.
You may discover hidden brilliance. You may sharpen your own opinions.
Or you may finish all 350 pages and confirm that you were absolutely right from the beginning.
Honestly, that can be satisfying too.

]]>The post MARINA HOTEL KUWAIT: MORE THAN JUST A STAY appeared first on bazaar.town.
]]>
A Boutique Address in the Heart of Salmiya
Marina Hotel occupies a boutique, upper-upscale position within Kuwait’s five-star landscape, distinguished as much by its scale and intimacy as by its interiors. Lush, jewel-toned decor runs throughout the property, paired with panoramic sea views that greet guests from the moment they arrive. The location is unmatched for those who want to be at the center of things: the hotel sits within walking distance of Marina Mall, Marina Waves, and Marina Crescent, placing shopping, dining, and Salmiya’s waterfront promenade just steps from the front door.
91 Rooms and Suites Designed for Comfort
The hotel houses 91 well-appointed guestrooms and suites, each designed with the needs of both business and leisure travelers in mind. At the top of the offering sit the Royal Suite and the Amiri Suite, two of the most luxurious accommodations in Salmiya, created for guests seeking the highest levels of comfort and privacy. Across every category, rooms are designed to deliver a restful, elevated stay, whether guests are in Kuwait for a short business trip or a longer coastal escape.

Dining With a View
Marina Hotel’s dining venues are as much about setting as they are about food. Atlantis Restaurant offers all-day dining with sweeping views over the hotel’s swimming pools and the iconic Kuwait Towers beyond, making it a destination in its own right for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. For a more relaxed start to the day, Six Palms serves a daily breakfast spread in a calm, welcoming setting, ideal for guests easing into their morning before a day of meetings or leisure.

Events, Weddings, and the Salwa Al Sabah Al Ahmad Al Sabah Hall
For corporate travelers, Marina Hotel offers three fully equipped meeting rooms suited to conferences, corporate events, and private gatherings of varying sizes, giving businesses in Salmiya a flexible venue for their needs.
For celebrations, the hotel’s crown jewel is the Salwa Al Sabah Al Ahmad Al Sabah Hall, an elegant ballroom with a full, uninterrupted view of the sea. Designed for weddings, engagements, and special occasions, the hall brings together sophisticated interiors with one of the most striking backdrops available in Kuwait, allowing couples and hosts to celebrate with the Arabian Gulf as their setting.

The Waterfront: Marina Hotel’s Defining Experience
If there is one thing that sets Marina Hotel apart in Salmiya’s crowded hospitality scene, it is the waterfront itself. The hotel holds one of Kuwait’s largest private sandy beaches, a rare and valuable offering in a district better known for its malls and towers than its shoreline. Where many five-star properties in the city offer little more than a pool deck, Marina Hotel gives guests direct, unobstructed access to the Arabian Gulf, right on its own grounds.
The beach is complemented by three distinct swimming pools, each designed around a different way of spending the day. A lap pool caters to guests keeping up a fitness routine even while traveling. A family pool offers a shared space for groups and couples looking to relax together. A dedicated children’s pool gives younger guests a safe, separate area of their own. Together, the beach and pools turn the hotel’s waterfront into a full day’s destination rather than a single amenity, whether guests are swimming, sunbathing, or simply taking in the view of the Gulf and Kuwait Towers from a lounger.
This waterfront setting is also what makes Marina Hotel a natural choice beyond overnight stays. The hotel welcomes day use guests looking to enjoy the beach, pools, and surrounding facilities without booking a room, an option well suited to Salmiya residents and Kuwait City visitors alike who want a resort-style day by the sea. It is an easy way to experience the property’s biggest draw firsthand, and often the first step for guests who return later for a full stay, an event, or a celebration in the Salwa Al Sabah Al Ahmad Al Sabah Hall. Guests can inquire about day use availability directly at 22230030.

Wellness at the Water’s Edge
Rounding out the waterfront experience is the hotel’s fully equipped Health Club, with separate gym and spa facilities for ladies and gentlemen. Positioned alongside the pools and beach, it allows guests to pair a workout or spa treatment with time by the water, rounding the property into a complete wellness and leisure destination rather than simply a place to stay.

A Complete Waterfront Experience
Whether guests are visiting Marina Hotel for business, leisure, a day by the sea, or a milestone celebration, the property brings together warm hospitality, premium facilities, and an exceptional waterfront setting that has kept it at the heart of Salmiya’s hotel scene since 2005. From its suites and dining rooms to its private beach and sea-facing ballroom, Marina Hotel offers a version of Kuwaiti hospitality built on comfort, elegance, and a genuine sense of place.
For more information or to make a reservation, contact 22230030 or visit safirhotels.com. Bookings for the ballroom can be made directly at 60074802.

]]>The post TASTE VS. STYLE appeared first on bazaar.town.
]]>Style and taste are related, but they are not the same thing. Style is expression. Taste is discernment. Style is the result you can see, while taste is the collection of judgments, references, instincts, and preferences that helped create it.
And while style can change overnight, taste takes time.
Taste Is More Than Liking Something
Having taste does not mean liking expensive things, knowing obscure designers, or rejecting whatever happens to be popular. Nor is there one universally “good” taste everyone should aspire to.
Taste is the ability to recognize what resonates with you and understand why. You might love an austere concrete building and a wildly colorful ceramic bowl. They do not need to match. What matters is developing enough visual and cultural vocabulary to identify what draws you to both.
This is why taste extends far beyond clothes. It appears in the books you keep, the films you return to, the objects you bring home, the music you play, the spaces you enjoy, and even the way you host people.
Style Can Be Copied. Taste Has to Be Built
It has never been easier to acquire a style. Social media can give you the wardrobe, interiors, reading list, holiday destinations, and coffee order associated with almost any aesthetic imaginable.
The problem comes when inspiration turns into imitation.
Writer and filmmaker John Waters famously advised, “Develop your own tastes and be proud of them.” That distinction matters. Trends can introduce us to something new, but taste determines whether it belongs in our lives after everyone else has moved on.
Without that internal filter, it is easy to accumulate things that look right together but say very little about the person who chose them.
Become a Better Observer
Cultivating taste begins with exposure. Visit exhibitions even when you know nothing about the artist. Watch films from decades before you were born. Wander through old buildings. Read outside your usual genres. Browse a flea market without planning to buy anything. Listen to an album because you love its cover.
Then pay attention.
Instead of simply deciding whether you like something, ask what caught your eye. Was it the proportion? The color? The craftsmanship? The humor? The story behind it? Understanding preference turns instinct into discernment.
And do not rush to purchase everything you admire. Sometimes appreciating an object without owning it teaches you more about taste than shopping ever could.
Let Yourself Change Your Mind
Good taste is not a finished identity. Exposure changes it. Age changes it. Travel, relationships, experience, and curiosity change it.
Something you dismissed five years ago may suddenly make perfect sense. Something you once adored may begin to feel less interesting. Changing your mind does not mean you lacked taste before. It means your references have expanded.
The goal is not to develop a perfectly curated aesthetic and remain there forever. It is to become more intentional about what you allow to influence you.
Style is what happens afterward.
When taste is cultivated, getting dressed becomes easier. Homes become more personal. Purchases become more considered. You stop asking whether something is fashionable enough and start asking whether it feels like you.
Because style can tell people what you like. Taste tells you why.

]]>The post THE LAZY WORKER’S GUIDE TO GETTING AHEAD appeared first on bazaar.town.
]]>Except it does not always work that way.
Getting ahead at work is not a competition to see who can become the most exhausted. In fact, some of the smartest people in the room are quietly doing less. Not because they are actually lazy, but because they understand that effort and impact are not the same thing.
Consider this your permission to become strategically lazy.
Stop Being Good at Everything
Being reliable is wonderful until you become the person everyone asks to fix the printer, organize the meeting, proofread the presentation, and solve problems that have absolutely nothing to do with your job.
Before saying yes, ask whether the task contributes to the work you actually want to be known for.
Your time and attention are limited. Spend them becoming excellent at the things that move your career forward, not indispensable at the things nobody puts on a promotion letter.
Make Your Work Visible
You can produce brilliant work quietly for years and still discover that half the office has no idea what you actually do.
Visibility is not bragging. It is communication.
Share results. Present the idea you developed. Send the concise update explaining what your project achieved. When something works, make sure the right people understand your contribution.
Do not assume good work speaks for itself. Work does not speak. People do.
Solve the Annoying Problem Once
If you find yourself doing the same tedious task every week, stop accepting it as part of life.
Create a template. Automate what you can. Build a checklist. Save standard responses. Develop a system that means Future You never has to start from zero again.
The best kind of laziness asks, “Why am I still doing this the difficult way?”
Saving ten minutes sounds insignificant until you save those ten minutes every week for three years.
Become the Person Who Knows
You do not need to know everything. You need to know something valuable.
Choose an area connected to your work and become unusually informed about it. Understand the audience nobody else understands. Learn the software everyone avoids. Know what competitors are doing. Become the person colleagues think of when a particular question comes up.
Expertise creates leverage. The more valuable your judgment becomes, the less your contribution is measured by how many hours you appear busy.
Protect Your Best Energy
Not every hour of the day is equally productive. Pay attention to when your brain actually works.
If you think clearly in the morning, do not sacrifice that time to email. If afternoons are slower, use them for administrative work. Group meetings where possible. Turn off notifications when you need to concentrate.
Productivity researcher Cal Newport has argued for the value of “deep work,” periods of distraction-free concentration on cognitively demanding tasks. The idea is refreshingly incompatible with looking busy all day.
Sometimes one focused hour produces more than an entire afternoon of interruptions.
Know What “Done” Looks Like
Perfectionism is productivity’s beautifully dressed accomplice.
Not every email needs another rewrite. Not every presentation needs another hour of formatting. Not every task deserves your absolute best work.
Decide what good enough looks like before you begin. Save perfection for the work where excellence genuinely matters.
The secret is not lowering your standards. It is knowing where high standards actually pay off.
Go Home
There will always be another email, another task, another reason to stay.
Leave anyway.
Rest is not the opposite of ambition. A brain that has slept, disconnected, laughed, exercised, seen friends, or simply done absolutely nothing occasionally tends to make better decisions than one running permanently on empty.
The smartest worker is not necessarily the person doing the least. They are the person who knows what deserves their effort and, more importantly, what does not.
So be a little lazy.
Just be strategic about it.

]]>Those are the movies we want.
Not confusing for the sake of being confusing, these films play with time, memory, identity, perception, and reality itself. They reward attention, invite theories, and practically demand a post-movie conversation. Some might even send you straight back to the beginning to see what you missed.
Clear your evening. You may need some processing time afterward.
Arrival (2016)
On the surface, Arrival is about linguist Louise Banks, played by Amy Adams, attempting to communicate with extraterrestrial visitors after mysterious spacecraft appear around the world.
But director Denis Villeneuve is far more interested in communication, perception, and our relationship with time than alien invasion.
The less you know before watching, the better. What begins as cerebral science fiction gradually becomes something deeply emotional, asking whether knowing what lies ahead would change the choices we make today.
You may come for the aliens. You will leave contemplating the nature of existence.
Everything Everywhere All at Once (2022)
Imagine discovering that countless versions of you exist across countless universes, each shaped by every decision you could have made differently.
Now imagine trying to deal with that while doing your taxes.
Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert’s Oscar-winning film throws Michelle Yeoh’s Evelyn into a chaotic multiverse filled with alternative lives, absurd possibilities, martial arts, family tension, and some extremely unusual fingers.
Beneath all that glorious chaos is a surprisingly tender question: if nothing matters in an infinite universe, could that actually make the small things matter more?
It is ridiculous. It is moving. Somehow, it works.
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004)
Would you erase someone from your memory if you could?
After discovering that his former girlfriend Clementine has undergone a procedure to remove memories of their relationship, Joel, played by Jim Carrey, decides to do the same.
What follows unfolds largely inside memory itself, where places collapse, timelines blur, and moments disappear as Joel begins questioning whether forgetting is really what he wants.
More than two decades after its release, Michel Gondry’s film still feels inventive. It is science fiction disguised as a love story, or perhaps a love story disguised as science fiction.
Either way, prepare to think about every relationship you have ever had.
The Truman Show (1998)
Truman Burbank has a nice house, a stable job, friendly neighbors, and a seemingly perfect life.
There is just one problem. None of it is real.
Released in 1998, before social media, influencers, livestreaming, and the normalization of broadcasting everyday life, The Truman Show now feels almost unnervingly prescient.
Jim Carrey plays a man unknowingly living inside a television show while everyone around him performs for an audience he does not know exists. What begins as clever satire becomes an exploration of free will, surveillance, authenticity, and what happens when comfort becomes a cage.
You will never look at product placement the same way again.
Memento (2000)
Leonard Shelby cannot form new long-term memories. He knows who he was before his injury, but recent events disappear from his mind within minutes.
He is also trying to solve a murder.
Christopher Nolan turns that premise into a storytelling experiment by presenting much of the film in reverse chronological order, placing the viewer in something resembling Leonard’s own uncertainty. You know what is happening, but not necessarily what happened before it.
Every new piece of information changes your understanding of what you have already seen.
It is the kind of movie that makes a second viewing feel less like a rewatch and more like part two.
These films do not hand you every answer, and that is precisely the fun. They leave gaps for interpretation, questions for the drive home, and ideas that resurface days later when you are supposed to be thinking about something else.
Just one warning: movie night may turn into a three-hour debate afterward.
Consider that part of the experience.

]]>The post UNHINGED WAYS TO STOP DOOMSCROLLING appeared first on bazaar.town.
]]>Welcome back.
Doomscrolling is particularly difficult to stop because there is always something new waiting below the last thing you saw. So perhaps gentle self-control is not the answer. Perhaps your phone needs consequences.
Here are some slightly unhinged interventions.
Make Your Phone Ugly
Your phone is beautiful on purpose. Bright icons, photographs, videos, red notification badges and endless visual novelty make it extremely inviting.
So ruin it.
Switch your display to grayscale. Suddenly Instagram looks like a newspaper, food videos lose their appeal, and online shopping becomes considerably less seductive when everything is grey.
Keep your wallpaper boring too. No mood board. No adorable cat. Make your phone feel like office equipment.
Make Social Media Embarrassingly Difficult to Reach
Delete social apps from your Home Screen. Then remove them from obvious folders. Better yet, delete the apps entirely and use their browser versions.
Having to open Safari, find the website and log in creates something doomscrolling hates: friction.
Still getting there too easily? Log out every time.
Yes, it is inconvenient.
That is the point.
Put Your Charger Somewhere Ridiculous
Stop charging your phone beside your bed.
Put the charger in the hallway. The kitchen. Across the bedroom. Somewhere that requires you to physically get up if you want to retrieve your phone at midnight.
If you use your phone as an alarm, buy a cheap alarm clock.
Congratulations. It is 2004 again, and nobody can send you a Reel while you are sleeping.
Make Yourself Stand Up
Create one completely arbitrary rule: social media can only be used while standing.
No sofa. No bed. No comfortable chair.
Want to spend 40 minutes scrolling TikTok? Absolutely. You just have to stand in the middle of your living room while doing it.
The beauty of this rule is that nobody needs to enforce it except you, and suddenly your “relaxing” scroll feels suspiciously like waiting at the airport.
You may discover you were not that interested after all.
Give Your Phone a Parking Spot
Phones wander around the house with us like needy pets. Kitchen, sofa, bathroom, bedroom. Wherever we go, they follow.
Give yours an address.
Choose a shelf, drawer, basket or table where your phone lives when you are at home. Need it? Walk over, use it, then put it back.
The goal is not to ban your phone. It is to stop carrying an infinite entertainment machine in your hand while wondering why you keep using it.
Appoint a Doomscrolling Witness
Nothing kills a bad habit quite like having to explain it to another human being.
Choose a friend and make a pact. Every time either of you catches yourself disappearing into an unnecessary scroll, send the other person a message admitting it.
Make the penalty mildly irritating. The person with the most doomscrolling confessions that week buys coffee. Loser organizes the next dinner. Pick something harmless but annoying enough to matter.
Shame is not the strategy. Accountability is.
The joke, of course, is that none of these methods address a lack of discipline. They change the environment around the habit.
Your phone is designed to make access effortless. The feed never ends. The next video begins automatically. There is always another notification asking you to come back.
So stop making resistance effortless too.
Add steps. Create inconvenience. Move the charger. Delete the app. Stand awkwardly in your living room.
And the next time you pick up your phone to check the weather, maybe you will actually check the weather.

]]>The post A FRESH START BEGINS AT HOME appeared first on bazaar.town.
]]>Children spend hours each day learning, resting, playing and recharging at home. The spaces they live in have a direct impact on their ability to concentrate, sleep well, stay organized and develop healthy habits. Preparing your home for the school year isn’t about buying everything new. It’s about creating an environment that supports learning, independence and family life.
Whether you’re making a few simple changes or planning a complete room refresh, these ten ideas will help your family start the school year feeling prepared.
1. Designate a Space for Learning
A dedicated study area doesn’t require an extra room. A quiet corner in a bedroom, living room or even the dining area can become an effective workspace when it’s thoughtfully planned.
The goal is to minimize distractions and create a place that signals it’s time to focus. An ergonomic desk and chair help children maintain good posture during homework, reading and online lessons, while proper lighting reduces eye strain and creates a more inviting atmosphere.
Having one consistent place for schoolwork also helps establish routine, making it easier for children to transition from playtime to study time each afternoon.

2. Make Organization Effortless
Organization works best when it doesn’t require constant effort. Instead of asking children to stay organized, create systems that make organization the easiest option.
Drawer dividers, storage baskets, labeled boxes and shelving units keep notebooks, stationery, chargers and art supplies exactly where they belong. School bags can have a designated hook by the entrance, while a tray for permission slips and important papers prevents last-minute searches before school.
When everything has a home, mornings become calmer and children gradually learn responsibility by putting things back where they belong.
3. Build a Bedroom That Encourages Better Sleep
Sleep is one of the strongest predictors of academic performance, mood and emotional resilience, yet it’s often sacrificed during the school year.
Creating a bedroom that supports healthy sleep habits starts with reducing light. Blackout curtains help block early morning sunlight and evening streetlights, encouraging deeper, more restorative sleep.
Pair them with calming bedding, soft lighting and a clutter-free environment to transform the bedroom into a place that promotes genuine rest. A child who sleeps well is more likely to wake up refreshed, concentrate better in class and regulate emotions throughout the day.
4. Put Books Within Reach
Children are far more likely to read when books are visible and accessible.
Instead of storing books in boxes or high cabinets, display them on open shelves where favorite stories become part of the room itself. Rotate selections throughout the year to keep the collection feeling fresh and encourage children to revisit old favorites alongside new discoveries.
Adding comfortable seating nearby can transform a bookshelf into a cozy reading corner that invites curiosity long after homework is finished.
5. Create a Kitchen That Supports Independence
The busiest part of the day often begins the moment everyone walks through the front door.
Preparing one section of the kitchen with healthy, easy-to-reach snacks allows children to refuel independently while giving parents one less task during hectic afternoons. Clear containers, organized pantry shelves and designated lunch-prep zones also simplify weekday mornings.
Thoughtful kitchen organization doesn’t just save time. It encourages healthier choices and helps children develop confidence by managing simple routines on their own.

6. Make Room for Movement
Physical activity plays an important role in concentration, emotional wellbeing and overall health, but not every family has access to a garden or nearby sports facilities.
Fortunately, movement doesn’t require a large home gym.
A small open area in the living room, bedroom or family room can become a flexible space for stretching, dancing, yoga, skipping or active games. Foldable equipment and multifunctional furniture make it easy to create a movement-friendly environment without sacrificing valuable floor space.
The goal isn’t intense exercise. It’s simply making movement a natural part of everyday life.
7. Reimagine Their Room Together
Children grow quickly, and their needs change just as fast. Before replacing everything, take time to look at the room with fresh eyes.
Could the desk benefit from more natural light? Would moving the bed create extra floor space? Is there unused storage that could work more efficiently?
This process can become a fun family activity, encouraging children to participate in designing a room that works better for them.
Abyat’s free AI imagine tool available on their app or website makes this even easier by helping families visualize different layouts and design possibilities before moving furniture or investing in new pieces. Sometimes the biggest transformation comes not from buying more, but from making better use of what you already have.
8. Create Daily Landing Zones
Small organizational habits can have an enormous impact.
Designate one place for backpacks, another for shoes and another for water bottles, sports equipment and jackets. A charging station keeps devices organized, while a family calendar nearby ensures everyone knows what’s happening during the week.
These simple “landing zones” eliminate daily clutter and reduce the frantic search for missing items just before leaving the house.
9. Turn Shopping into a Learning Opportunity
Back-to-school shopping offers an excellent chance to teach valuable life skills.
Rather than purchasing everything yourself, consider giving older children an Abyat Gift Card and involving them in planning their purchases. Setting a budget encourages thoughtful decision-making, prioritization and financial responsibility while allowing children to take ownership of preparing for the new school year.
These lessons often last much longer than the products themselves.
10. Make Every Upgrade Count
Refreshing your home for the school year doesn’t have to happen all at once. Small improvements made over time often have the greatest impact.
Preparing for school isn’t simply about checking items off a shopping list. It’s about creating a home where children feel supported, organized and inspired to learn.
As the school year begins, the most meaningful investment isn’t necessarily another notebook or backpack. It’s the environment that welcomes your family home every single day, making mornings smoother, afternoons calmer and learning a little easier for everyone.
This back-to-school season, Abyat has everything your family needs under one roof: complete bedroom solutions, lighting for every room and every mood, bedding, soft furnishings, study desks and chairs, and décor that ties it all together. A fresh room awaits. And with AMER, Abyat’s rewards program, you earn credit back on every purchase, all year long, no matter the season.

]]>The post 6 iOS AUTOMATIONS THAT ONLY CLEVER PEOPLE USE appeared first on bazaar.town.
]]>Meanwhile, Apple’s Shortcuts app includes personal automations that can trigger actions based on things like time, location, battery level, Focus modes, and other events. Once you start using them, the question quickly becomes: why was I doing all of this myself?
Here are six automations worth stealing.
Make Your Phone Work-Friendly When You Arrive
Walking into work can trigger an entire digital transition. Create an automation that activates your Work Focus when you arrive at the office, helping you control which notifications, people, and apps can interrupt you.
Pair your Focus with a customized Home Screen containing only the apps you actually need for work, and your phone can shift from personal distraction machine to productivity tool with minimal effort.
Then set up the reverse for when you leave.
Never Forget to Text “I’m Home”
There is always someone who wants to know you arrived safely.
Instead of remembering to send the same message every time, create a location-based automation that helps you send a preset text when you arrive home.
It is especially useful after late nights, long drives, or while traveling. Just be thoughtful about fully automating messages based on location. For something personal, having your phone prompt you to send the message can be smarter than letting it speak for you.
Let Low Battery Change Your Behavior
Low Power Mode is useful, but why wait until your battery is already struggling?
Shortcuts can trigger an automation when your battery level falls below a percentage you choose. Use it to turn on Low Power Mode automatically before you reach the danger zone.
You can also create another automation for when your battery climbs back above your chosen level, so you do not have to think about switching modes manually.
Your phone should worry about its battery. You have other problems.
Create a Bedtime Shutdown
A bedtime routine is much easier when your phone participates.
Set an automation around your evening routine or Sleep Focus to reduce the temptation to keep scrolling. Your setup might activate a Focus, adjust settings, open a favorite reading or audio app, or trigger another Shortcut you use at night.
The objective is not an elaborate productivity ritual. It is creating a digital signal that says the day is over.
Your phone spends all day demanding your attention. At bedtime, make it help you switch off instead.
Turn Your Morning Alarm Into a Launch Button
Stopping your alarm can do more than silence an unpleasant sound.
Use your morning alarm as the trigger for a Shortcut that starts the next part of your routine. Depending on the actions and apps you use, that might mean opening your calendar, starting a morning playlist, or bringing up the information you check first each day.
Instead of waking up and immediately wandering through notifications, you decide what your phone shows you first.
It is a tiny difference with surprisingly useful consequences.
Make Charging Your Cue to Disconnect
We plug our phones in almost automatically, which makes charging a useful trigger for another behavior.
Create an automation for when your iPhone connects to a charger at night. It could activate a Focus, launch your bedtime Shortcut, or otherwise transition your phone into the setup you prefer for the evening.
Think of it as putting your phone to bed.
The smartest automations are not necessarily complicated. They remove tiny decisions you make repeatedly until those decisions disappear from your mental load altogether.
Start with one annoying thing you do on your phone every day and ask whether your iPhone could do it for you.
Clever, after all, is often just another word for refusing to do the same boring thing twice.

]]>The post 5 WAYS TO FEEL MORE CONFIDENT THIS WEEK appeared first on bazaar.town.
]]>In reality, confidence is less of a personality trait and more of something we build. Psychologist Albert Bandura’s research on self-efficacy showed that our belief in our ability to handle situations develops partly through experience. In other words, waiting until you feel confident before doing something difficult may have the process backward. Sometimes you have to act first.
You do not need a complete reinvention. Start with five small experiments this week.
Do One Thing Before You Feel Ready
Send the email. Introduce yourself. Wear the outfit. Share the idea in the meeting. Apply for the opportunity you have almost convinced yourself you are underqualified for.
Choose one thing you have been postponing because you are waiting to feel more certain. Then do it while uncertainty is still there.
Every time you handle something uncomfortable, you give yourself evidence that you can. Confidence grows from collecting those experiences, not from eliminating nervousness.
Keep One Promise to Yourself
We are often careful about keeping commitments to other people while treating promises to ourselves as optional.
Pick one small commitment and keep it for seven days. Take your morning walk. Read ten pages before bed. Leave work when you said you would. Finish the task you keep moving to tomorrow.
Make it achievable. The goal is not discipline for discipline’s sake. It is proving to yourself that your own word counts too.
Stop Shrinking Your Language
Listen to yourself this week. How often do you say “sorry” when you have nothing to apologize for? Do you introduce ideas with “This might be stupid, but…” or soften an opinion until it barely sounds like one?
You do not need to become louder or more forceful. Simply remove the unnecessary disclaimers.
Replace “Sorry to bother you” with “Do you have a minute?” Instead of “I could be completely wrong,” try “I think we should consider…”
Confidence can sound remarkably ordinary. Often, it is simply saying what you mean without apologizing for having said it.
Get Better at Something
Confidence built entirely around appearance, praise, or other people’s approval is fragile because someone else can take it away.
Competence is harder to shake.
Spend an hour improving something that matters to you. Practice a skill you already have. Learn something new. Cook the recipe properly instead of improvising it. Finally understand the feature in that software you always avoid.
You do not have to become an expert. Progress itself changes how you see your capabilities.
Remember Your Receipts
When self-doubt appears, memory suddenly becomes remarkably selective. We remember the interview that went badly and forget the five that went well.
So keep receipts.
Write down five things you have handled, achieved, learned, or survived that once felt difficult. They do not need to sound impressive to anyone else. Maybe you changed careers, navigated a difficult year, learned to drive, raised a child, traveled alone, spoke up when it mattered, or simply got through something you thought you couldn’t.
Confidence is not believing you will always succeed. It is trusting that you can handle yourself when you don’t.
And that trust is built through evidence.
This week, give yourself some.

]]>The post HAPPY TO BE HOME WITH IKEA® appeared first on bazaar.town.
]]>The return to routine often comes with new schedules, fresh goals, and longer to-do lists. But instead of trying to do more, it can be an opportunity to make everyday life simpler. Small changes, from creating a better workspace to introducing smarter storage or carving out a quiet place to unwind, can make a noticeable difference. IKEA reminds us that a home designed around everyday living allows every member of the family to move through the day with a little more ease and a little less stress.
No matter what your day brings, there is always one moment worth looking forward to: coming home.

After every meeting, happy to be home
Whether you’ve spent the day in the office or working remotely, home should help you leave work behind while also making tomorrow a little easier. A comfortable sofa and a favourite cup of coffee offer the perfect transition from work mode to home life, while a well-organised workspace means you’re ready when the next meeting comes around.
One simple way to make the workday feel less demanding is to eliminate the small everyday frustrations that interrupt it. One of the simplest tips we have learned from IKEA, is that keeping cables organised, storing work essentials in drawer organisers, and making sure everything has its place creates a workspace that feels calm, functional, and easy to return to. It doesn’t need to be a complex or large system, and even without a dedicated office, a compact workstation carved out of an unused corner can become a productive setup with the right desk, comfortable seating, and practical storage.
Good lighting is always the unsung hero in productivity and well-being. Using different lighting sources like floor and desk lamps help create a more comfortable environment even after the sun has set. If your room gets good natural light then make use of it by positioning your workspace near a window. Just, make sure you manage the glare throughout the day with blinds and curtains. Adding greenery and giving yourself regular screen breaks can make working from home feel healthier as well as more enjoyable.

After every school day, happy to be home
For children, home quickly becomes a place for snacking, homework, reading, crafting, and play, often all within the same afternoon. The most versatile spaces are those that can adapt as the day unfolds.
Another useful lesson we have learned from IKEA, is that a room can play several roles. Rather than assigning every activity its own room, think about creating flexible zones. A dining table can become a homework station before transforming into the family dinner table, while accessible storage makes it easy for children to put away toys and bring out craft supplies independently. Spaces that encourage both creativity and organisation help children feel more at home while making everyday family life a little less hectic.
For older children and teenagers, it’s equally important to create spaces that balance focus with relaxation. A comfortable study area alongside a cosy corner to read, listen to music, or spend time with friends helps make their room work throughout the day, whether they’re preparing for exams or simply winding down after school.

After every workout, happy to be home
Recovery is just as important as exercise itself. Home should become the place where you slow your breathing, stretch tired muscles, and prepare for the rest of your day.
Creating routines that support well-being goes beyond the workout itself. Keep water close by, schedule moments away from your desk, and create a comfortable corner where you can read, listen to music, or simply pause without reaching for another screen. Adding plants, making the most of natural daylight, and keeping your surroundings organised can also contribute to a calmer environment that supports both physical and mental wellbeing.
Sometimes the healthiest habit is simply remembering to take regular breaks. Stretching between tasks, moving around the house, or stepping away for a few quiet moments can improve both focus and energy levels, making the rest of the day feel more balanced.

After every lecture, happy to be home
Student life demands spaces that work just as hard as the people using them. Whether studying, revising, or joining online lectures, a productive workspace doesn’t require an entire room.
Some of the most effective study areas occupy little more than an unused wall or quiet corner. A compact desk, a supportive chair, focused task lighting, and vertical shelving can create a highly functional workspace without overwhelming the rest of the home. Alternating between sitting and standing throughout the day and keeping the desktop free from clutter can also improve comfort and concentration during longer study sessions.
Making the most of wall space, choosing multifunctional furniture, and keeping everyday essentials within easy reach all help maximise even the smallest homes. IKEA offers several options like modular cork and peg boards, so you can make them work for whatever space you have. It’s proof that creating an effective study space is less about square footage and more about thoughtful planning.
After every playdate, happy to be home
A home filled with laughter usually comes with plenty of clutter. The trick isn’t preventing the mess. It’s making it easier to put everything back again.
Storage that children can easily reach encourages independence while helping toys, games, and craft supplies stay organised. Open bins, labelled baskets, and multifunctional furniture allow rooms to transition quickly from playtime back to everyday living, making family life feel more manageable without sacrificing fun.
IKEA storage systems are flexible meaning rooms can easily evolve as children grow. The same organised systems that keep toys tidy today can later hold books, hobbies, or school supplies, helping the home adapt to changing routines over time.
After every win, happy to be home
Some victories deserve a celebration. Others simply deserve a moment to appreciate how far you’ve come.
Whether gathering friends around the dining table, curling up on the sofa after a long week, or enjoying a quiet evening with family, home is where life’s milestones become memories. It is also where everyday rituals, from sharing a meal to catching up over coffee, remind us that the smallest moments are often the most meaningful.
IKEA understands that a home doesn’t need to be perfect to support everyday life and can help you achieve that within your budget. Thoughtful details, practical organisation, and spaces designed around real routines can make every day feel a little lighter. Because after every meeting, every lecture, every school day, every workout, every playdate, and every celebration, there is one place that welcomes you back exactly as you are.
That is the joy of getting back to routine. And that is what it means to be happy to be home.

]]>The post WHEN DID LUXURY BECOME SO QUIET? appeared first on bazaar.town.
]]>Luxury, apparently, has learned to whisper. Beige cashmere, unmarked handbags, immaculate tailoring, pale interiors, discreet watches. Nothing too colorful, nothing too decorative, and certainly nothing that tries too hard to be noticed. Quiet luxury has spent the past few years convincing us that sophistication is found in restraint, and that the less something announces itself, the more tasteful it must be.
But whose definition of taste are we using?
For a region with a visual heritage built on pattern, ornament, craftsmanship, color, and abundance, the elevation of quiet luxury as the ultimate expression of sophistication feels strangely at odds with our own cultural history.
Our luxury has rarely been quiet.
We Have Always Decorated
Look across the visual traditions of the Arab world and restraint is hardly the defining characteristic.
Islamic architecture transformed ceilings, walls, courtyards, and doorways through geometry, calligraphy, carved wood, tilework, and intricate pattern. Bedouin Sadu weaving uses bold geometric motifs to create textiles rooted in community and identity. Palestinian tatreez turns embroidery into a visual language, with patterns historically connected to place and tradition. Egyptian khayamiya fills textiles with elaborate appliqué and color.
Jewelry was layered. Fabrics were embroidered. Coffee pots were engraved. Doors were carved. Even everyday objects could become opportunities for craftsmanship.
Decoration was not frivolous. It communicated identity, skill, hospitality, history, and belonging.
Against that backdrop, the idea that refinement must be stripped of visible detail begins to feel less universal and more like one particular cultural preference being presented as objective good taste.
Beige Is Not a Neutral Idea
Quiet luxury did not invent minimalism, nor is there anything wrong with loving a beautifully simple room or an impeccably tailored coat. The problem begins when one aesthetic becomes shorthand for sophistication itself.
A neutral interior is tasteful. Pattern becomes “busy.” A logo-free leather bag is elegant. Gold jewelry becomes “too much.” Restrained dressing signals wealth, while visible ornament risks being dismissed as excessive.
These judgments are not as neutral as they appear.
When we adopt them unquestioningly, we risk evaluating our own visual traditions according to standards they were never designed to meet. Suddenly the richly patterned rug needs to be toned down. The ornate brass tray feels old-fashioned. The jewelry inherited from a grandmother is saved for special occasions while something deliberately anonymous becomes an everyday marker of refinement.
We begin editing ourselves.
Our Objects Tell Stories
Heritage is not preserved only in museums. It survives because people continue to live with it.
A handwoven textile, an embroidered dress, a carved wooden chest, a piece of gold jewelry, or a ceramic serving dish can carry memory across generations. Their value is not derived from being recognizable to everyone. It comes from being recognizable to us.
This is where quiet luxury’s obsession with anonymity feels particularly limiting.
The most meaningful objects are often anything but anonymous. We know where they came from. We know who made them, who owned them before us, or what tradition inspired them. They belong somewhere.
Luxury without identity may travel easily across Instagram feeds and international hotel lobbies, but cultural objects carry something more valuable: specificity.
Craftsmanship Was Luxury Before It Became a Trend
Ironically, quiet luxury celebrates many ideas our region has valued for centuries: quality materials, skilled workmanship, longevity, and objects made to last.
We do not need to reject those values. We need to reclaim them.
Craftsmanship does not require aesthetic silence. A hand-embroidered textile can represent hundreds of hours of skilled labor while being gloriously colorful. An intricately carved door can demonstrate extraordinary workmanship precisely because you can see the work. A piece of jewelry can be both valuable and unapologetically ornamental.
Perhaps true luxury is not about whether craftsmanship is visible. Perhaps it is about whether craftsmanship exists at all.
Take Up Visual Space
None of this means every Arab home should be maximalist or everyone should dress traditionally. Heritage is not a uniform, and authenticity does not require recreating the past.
Culture stays alive by evolving.
Wear the contemporary suit with the inherited gold. Place the modern sofa beside the handmade rug. Pair clean architecture with local art. Buy from regional designers who reinterpret traditional techniques rather than simply reproducing them.
The point is not to replace one aesthetic rulebook with another. It is to question why we accepted the first one so easily.
Our visual history gives us permission to be decorative, expressive, colorful, intricate, and occasionally excessive. It reminds us that sophistication can announce itself, that craftsmanship can be seen, and that beauty does not become less refined simply because it refuses to disappear into the background.
Quiet luxury can keep whispering.
Our heritage has far more interesting things to say.

The delegation presented the certification to Martin Kipping, General Manager, and members of the Hotel Planning Committee.
“Renewing our Green Key certification is particularly meaningful because it recognises the consistency and collective effort behind our environmental commitments,” said Martin Kipping. “At Four Seasons, sustainability is not separate from the guest experience. It is part of how we care for our surroundings, support our community and shape a more responsible future for hospitality in Kuwait.”
The certification follows a comprehensive assessment of the Hotel’s environmental management and operating practices, including energy and water conservation, waste reduction, responsible purchasing and team engagement.
Led by the Hotel’s Engineering team and supported by colleagues across all departments, these efforts include AI-enhanced food-waste management, on-site water bottling, the continued elimination of single-use plastics, energy and water monitoring systems, and electric vehicle charging stations.
“Green Key certification requires continuous attention, measurement and collaboration across the entire Hotel,” said Ali Al-Zain, Director of Engineering at Four Seasons Hotel Kuwait at Burj Alshaya. “This achievement reflects the discipline of our teams and their commitment to turning environmental objectives into meaningful and measurable action every day.”
The renewed Green Key certification complements the Hotel’s wider sustainability credentials, including LEED Platinum certification and Forbes Verified Responsible Hospitality, reflecting an approach in which thoughtful luxury and environmental responsibility progress together.

]]>The post THE WOMAN TEACHING FASHION HOW TO FIT appeared first on bazaar.town.
]]>Her company, KBT, is a Gulf-based platform built to solve one of fashion’s quietest frustrations: not knowing whether something will fit until it is too late to do anything about it. The name has nothing to do with acronyms. It comes from كبت, the Arabic word for closet. “Your closet is yours, and everything in it should actually fit you,” Alhuneidi explains. “It shouldn’t be full of things you’re about to return, or things you have to take to a tailor before you can wear them.”
That idea sits behind the company’s guiding line: stop guessing. “Shopping online has always asked you to guess, and we didn’t think that had to be true anymore,” she says.
A Problem Hiding in Plain Sight
The moment that convinced Alhuneidi to build a company came from a packing mishap. She had ordered a batch of clothes ahead of a trip, all in the same size. They arrived only days before she left, some too big, some too small.
“There was no time to return anything, so I just made do with whatever fit,” she recalls. “It wasn’t the disappointment that stuck with me, it was realizing how absurd it was that this is normal. We’ve all just accepted that ordering clothes online is a gamble.” Research followed, then conversations that confirmed it was universal. “It turned out everyone had the same story. That’s when it stopped being a personal annoyance and started being something worth building.”
Wrong sizing is consistently the leading reason clothing gets returned, and returns cost the global fashion industry hundreds of billions of dollars a year. Alhuneidi is candid about why the issue has persisted. “Returns got treated as a cost of doing business rather than a problem to solve,” she says. “You can’t try clothes on through a screen, so everyone accepted the guess and built reverse logistics around it instead.”
She is equally direct about the limits of the standard size chart. “A generic size chart can help, but only to an extent,” she says. “The same person is a medium in one brand, and a large in another, and a chart won’t tell you that. It gives you a label, not the real information.”
Building the Fit Layer
Alhuneidi describes KBT as “the fit layer of fashion.” “We sit between a shopper’s body and a brand’s garment and translate one to the other. Brands keep their own sizing, shoppers keep their own bodies, and we handle the matching in between. It’s infrastructure more than a feature.”
The mechanics follow four steps: a shopper creates a profile and completes a body scan through their phone camera, KBT captures measurements from that scan, those measurements are matched against a brand’s actual sizing for a specific item, and the shopper receives a personalized recommendation, down to where a garment might sit snug or loose and how the length will fall. Alhuneidi is careful to note the privacy built into that process. “The photos aren’t stored, and the data is anonymized. We only keep what’s needed to understand fit, nothing that identifies you.” The scan only happens once. “After that it’s reused across the brand’s items, so it’s a one-time effort, and then it just works.”
The harder problem, she says, is that sizing cannot be converted between brands the way currencies can. “A conversion chart assumes sizes mean the same thing across brands, and they don’t. Two brands can both call something a medium and cut it four centimeters apart. You can’t convert, you have to calibrate, garment by garment.”
Keeping the system precise while easy for retailers to adopt was the defining design challenge. “We deliberately put the heavy work on our side so the brand’s part stays light, because the brands who need this most are often the ones without big engineering teams.” And the system keeps learning. “The more it sees of how real bodies relate to real garments, the sharper it gets. Over time it stops being a chart and starts becoming knowledge.”

Built in the Gulf
KBT is a Gulf-based company, and Alhuneidi is clear the region is not a testing ground before a bigger market elsewhere; it is the foundation. “The Gulf is one of the fastest-growing e-commerce markets in the world, and fashion is a huge part of how people here express themselves,” she says. “It’s also a market that’s been underserved by Western sizing for years, so the need is sharper here than almost anywhere.”
That grounding shapes how KBT thinks about fit itself. “Coverage, length, and drape matter in ways a standard Western fit model doesn’t account for, and so do the different body types the region actually represents,” she says.
London and Paris feature in KBT’s ambitions, but as future markets rather than existing footholds. “We’re building from the Gulf and that’s the identity, not a steppingstone. The fit problem is universal.”
What Comes Next
Alhuneidi is candid that convincing retail partners takes more than a good pitch. “What convinces a brand isn’t the technology, it’s their returns line. When you show them what wrong-size returns are really costing them, and that it’s fixable, the conversation changes quickly.”
Her ambitions extend well past sizing. “I want KBT to be the layer brands assume they need, the way they assume they need search or payments. I want shopping online to stop feeling like a gamble.” She credits the team around her, including Reem Al Ashban and Tuleen Al Rowaihy. “What we’re building, we’re building together,” she says.
Ultimately, Alhuneidi hopes KBT proves something bigger than a business case. “I’d be proud if KBT showed that you don’t need to come from a technical background to build something technical. You just need to care enough about the problem not to let it go.”

]]>The post DAVID BECKHAM WEARS CUSTOM BOSS ON OPENING DAY OF LONDON TENNIS CHAMPIONSHIP appeared first on bazaar.town.
]]>For the occasion, Beckham wore a custom double-breasted suit from BOSS Made To Measure, cut from a light grey micro-pattern wool. The jacket’s peak lapels and sharply tailored silhouette were paired with matching slim-fit trousers, also made to measure for the star. The result was quiet, precise, and unmistakably his: a suit built less to make a statement than to confirm one already made.
The look offers an early glimpse of the tailoring set to feature in the BOSS BY BECKHAM Fall/Winter 2026 wardrobe, launching this September, a collection that continues to blur the line between performance wear and formal dressing.
A new kind of playing field
Few figures sit as comfortably at the intersection of sport and style as Beckham. Long before athletes were expected to double as style icons, he was already treating the pitch and the front row as two versions of the same stage. What began as a footballer’s eye for a sharp suit has, over two decades, evolved into something closer to a blueprint: proof that athletic discipline and sartorial precision are not opposing instincts but complementary ones.
That blueprint now defines an entire generation. Athletes across football, tennis, basketball and beyond are no longer simply endorsing fashion labels; they are shaping them, sitting front row at shows, and in some cases, designing collections themselves. Sport has become one of fashion’s most fluent languages, and the tunnel walk, once a footnote to the match, is now scrutinised with the same intensity as a red carpet arrival. Beckham did not just anticipate this shift. He helped build it, translating the same focus and control that defined his game into a life spent equally at home on the pitch and in tailoring’s finest details.
His BOSS partnership sits squarely within that legacy: a collaboration between a man who understands performance at its highest level and a house built on precision, discipline, and quiet confidence. Neither speaks in excess. Both understand that true authority rarely needs to raise its voice.
Today, that same ethos anchors HUGO BOSS at scale, one of fashion’s most recognisable houses, with a reach spanning 128 countries, roughly 8,000 points of sale, and a global workforce of more than 17,500 people. Headquartered in Metzingen, Germany, the group closed 2025 with sales of EUR 4.3 billion, a testament to a brand that has never confused restraint with a lack of ambition.
Beckham’s Summer Capsule with BOSS BY BECKHAM is available now on boss.com, in BOSS stores worldwide, and through select BOSS wholesalers. Shop the collection at boss.com.

]]>The post AZZA FAHMY UNVEILS ITS SORAYA COLLECTION appeared first on bazaar.town.
]]>For centuries, the crescent and star have travelled across the Ottoman world, woven into architecture, textiles, jewelry and decorative arts. Carried across generations, the motif became part of a rich visual language that remained recognizable while continually taking on new forms.
At the heart of Soraya lies one of Azza Fahmy’s most recognizable signatures: the chain. More than a functional element, it becomes the collection’s defining language. Inspired by and brought to life through the house’s intricate mesh-like chain technique, Soraya transforms chainwork into fluid surfaces that recall the softness and drape of textile. Chains connect motifs, create movement and shape fluid silhouettes, transforming ornament into structure.
The collection explores celestial symbolism through a rich variety of forms and inspirations. The Celestial Scarf Necklace transforms Azza Fahmy’s signature chain into a fluid, scarf-like composition inscribed with a lyric from the beloved Warda song, translating to “my days become sweeter with you.” Designed to be worn in multiple ways, it is finished with cascading chains adorned with crescent and star motifs that bring movement and lightness to the piece. Taking approximately 82 hours to create, the necklace is a testament to the exceptional level of craftsmanship behind the collection, where every detail is thoughtfully executed by hand in keeping with the brand’s dedication to artistry and heritage.

The Cascading Crescent & Star Earrings reinterpret one of the brand’s most recognizable chain forms through an Ottoman crescent and star motif at the ear, from which a mesh-like composition falls with the softness of textile. Emerging from the cascading chains, celestial motifs create a dynamic interplay of light and movement. The design is also offered in an all-gold version adorned with diamonds, elevating the piece into a statement of refined glamour.
Inspired by Victorian jewelry, the Celestial Beaded Choker reimagines the classic pearl choker through the celestial language of Soraya. Composed of three strands of pearls or colored stones, the design is centered by an Ottoman crescent and star motif set with champagne diamonds, presented upside down as a contemporary reinterpretation of a familiar symbol.
The collection also pays homage to traditional Egyptian jewelry through the Celestial Kirdan Necklace, inspired by Fallahy adornments worn in rural Egypt. Featuring a star-adorned chain integrated with dangling stars and precious stone drops, the necklace is centered by a diamond-set Ottoman crescent and star motif, creating a piece rich in movement, color and cultural resonance.
Another key design, the Constellation Chain Bracelet, reimagines Azza Fahmy’s iconic chain by incorporating star motifs in three distinct forms. Together, they create a mesh-like structure reminiscent of woven textile, while three Ottoman crescent and star motifs at its center unite the collection’s celestial narrative with the house’s signature chainwork.
Throughout Soraya, rings, bangles, pendants and earrings continue this dialogue between history and reinvention. Pieces such as the Cascading Celestial Choker, Ottoman Crescent & Star Ring, Three Star & Crescent Ring, Star & Crescent Bangle and Ottoman Chain Bracelet reinterpret historic symbols through contemporary silhouettes, while maintaining the craftsmanship and storytelling that define the design house’s values.
The Soraya campaign is brought to life in Alexandria, a city that serves as more than a backdrop. Shaped by memory, nostalgia, faded grandeur and centuries of cultural exchange, Alexandria becomes a character within the Soraya story. Its layered history and timeless beauty echo the spirit of the collection, where heritage and modernity coexist and symbols continue to evolve across generations.
With Soraya, Azza Fahmy Jewellery celebrates the enduring power of cultural symbols and the beauty of reinterpretation. Rooted in history yet designed for today, the collection invites wearers to carry a piece of the night sky, transforming ancient motifs into contemporary treasures that honor the past while embracing the future.

]]>The post PACK LIKE A PRO appeared first on bazaar.town.
]]>The secret to smart packing isn’t fitting more into your luggage. It’s taking less, but taking the right things.
Start With a Plan, Not a Suitcase
Frequent travelers often follow one simple rule: pack for the trip you’re actually taking, not the one you’re imagining. That mindset immediately changes every packing decision. A city break requires different clothing than a beach holiday. A family vacation has different priorities than a solo adventure. Once the destination, weather, and itinerary are clear, the suitcase becomes far easier to organize.
Before you pack a single item, make a list of your planned activities. Are you spending most of your time sightseeing? Will you need evening attire? Is there access to laundry facilities? Thinking through your itinerary helps eliminate the “just in case” items that rarely leave the suitcase.
Build a Capsule Wardrobe
One of the biggest mistakes people make is packing individual outfits rather than a wardrobe. Instead of choosing ten separate looks, build a small collection of pieces that work together. Neutral basics with two or three accent colors create dozens of combinations while taking up far less space. A lightweight shirt can become a beach cover-up during the day and dinner attire in the evening.
Shoes deserve special attention because they’re often the heaviest items in any suitcase. Unless you’re traveling for a special event, two pairs are usually enough: one comfortable walking shoe and one smarter option. Wear the bulkier pair during the flight to save valuable luggage space.
Rolling clothes rather than folding them remains one of the simplest space-saving tricks. Packing cubes make staying organized even easier, particularly on longer trips or when sharing luggage. Group similar items together so you’re not unpacking the entire suitcase every time you need a fresh T-shirt.
Pack Smarter, Not More
Toiletries are another area where overpacking is common. Travel-sized bottles are more than enough for most trips, and many hotels already provide everyday essentials. Decanting your favorite skincare into reusable containers lets you stick to your routine without sacrificing valuable luggage space.
Technology deserves its own pouch. Chargers, adapters, headphones, power banks, and cables have a habit of disappearing into suitcases. Keeping everything together saves time at airport security and makes unpacking far less frustrating.
One habit seasoned travelers swear by is creating a “first 24 hours” pouch. Pack medication, travel documents, toiletries, chargers, and one change of clothes in your carry-on. If checked luggage is delayed, you’ll have everything you need until it arrives.

Traveling With Family
Family trips require a little more strategy. Many parents recommend packing outfits by day instead of by child. Bundling complete outfits together makes busy mornings significantly easier, especially when traveling with younger children.
A well-stocked carry-on is equally important. Snacks, wipes, medications, reusable water bottles, hand sanitizer, and a spare outfit can make unexpected delays far less stressful. Keeping favorite comfort items close at hand, whether it’s a stuffed toy, blanket, or bedtime book, can also help younger children settle into unfamiliar surroundings.
Entertainment should also be varied. Tablets are useful, but so are coloring books, travel games, sticker books, audiobooks, and simple card games that help break up long journeys. Rotating activities throughout the flight keeps children engaged for longer.
Packing for Solo Adventures
Solo travelers often prioritize flexibility and security. Keeping digital copies of important documents, dividing valuables between bags, and carrying a portable charger offer extra peace of mind.
A lightweight crossbody bag quickly becomes one of the hardest-working items on the trip, while a reusable water bottle and compact first-aid kit help prepare for long sightseeing days without adding much weight. If you’re planning to explore on foot, comfortable shoes and a lightweight waterproof jacket are worth every centimeter of suitcase space.
Traveling alone also allows for more spontaneity, so avoid filling your suitcase to capacity. Leaving a little extra room makes it easier to adapt your plans or bring home local finds without needing an extra bag.
Leave Room for the Journey Home
Before zipping up your suitcase, think about the return trip. Leave a little space for shopping, or pack a foldable tote that can be used for souvenirs or laundry. Bringing a separate laundry bag also makes unpacking easier once you’re home.
Finally, try one last exercise before you leave. Remove three items from your suitcase. Chances are, you won’t miss any of them.
Travel should feel liberating, not weighed down by unnecessary baggage. A thoughtfully packed suitcase means fewer decisions, lighter airport sprints, easier hotel stays, and more time enjoying the destination itself.
After all, the best trips are remembered for the experiences collected, not the clothes left unworn at the bottom of the suitcase.

I think that means you and me make a great combination as well. Thanks also to Seb and Vincent and to Sami and Marko, the team secured a fantastic podium sweep.
Toyoda added: “In previous years, Rally Japan marked the end of the season and a chance to catch our breath. But things are different now. We are only at the halfway point of the season, and from here on, the calendar is filled with demanding gravel rallies. To everyone on the team, thank you for your hard work so far—and please keep pushing. We still have a long and challenging gravel road ahead!”

Held on the twisting, forest-covered roads of the Aichi and Gifu prefectures, Rally Japan took place in warmer temperatures than previous editions following its move from November to late May, with temperatures exceeding 30 degrees Celsius. The narrow mountain roads presented a different challenge for crews, cars, and tyres throughout the event.
Evans and Martin excelled once again, particularly on the event’s iconic Isegami’s Tunnel stage, where they made the most of their position at the front of the road order to build an early lead. Pursued by teammates over the following days, they went on to secure victory and claim Evans’ third Rally Japan win in four years, his 13th career WRC victory, and his 50th WRC podium finish.
Ogier and Landais, winners of Rally Japan in 2025, secured second place overall, finishing 12.8 seconds behind the winning crew. Pajari and Salminen scored their fifth podium finish in the last six rallies and their sixth top-three finish since securing their first podium at Rally Japan just six months earlier.
Competing on home roads, Katsuta and Johnston recovered well after an early setback to finish fourth overall. The duo also claimed a stage victory on the final day and secured second place in both the Power Stage and Super Sunday classifications.
With its Power Stage victory at Rally Japan, the Toyota GR YARIS Rally1 has now achieved 50 consecutive stage wins on asphalt across the last three WRC rallies held on the surface. Toyota has also extended its manufacturers’ championship lead to 127 points.

Evans now leads the drivers’ championship by 20 points, while GR-WRT crews occupy the remaining four of the top five positions in the standings, with Katsuta in second, Solberg in third, Pajari in fourth, and Ogier in fifth.
Toyota’s motorsports history dates back over 60 years. Reflecting the concept that ‘Roads build people and cars,’ Toyota has competed in a wide range of motorsport disciplines worldwide. Its major successes, achieved under the most extreme conditions, together with the hard-won knowledge and technical insights they have yielded, continue to serve as the foundation for building ‘ever-better’ cars. GAZOO Racing competes in top-level motorsport categories such as the FIA World Rally Championship, as well as in customer motorsport activities using production vehicles.
Round eight of the 2026 FIA WRC is Acropolis Rally Greece (June 25-28), held on rocky mountain roads and in high summer temperatures. The rally’s legendary reputation and demanding conditions combine to create a tough challenge for vehicles, tires, and drivers alike.

]]>Across the hotel, our people come from different countries, cultures and professional paths. Some found their way to hospitality through craft. Others through movement, storytelling, sport or wellness. Together, they reflect what has always been at the heart of Four Seasons: genuine care, delivered with warmth, intention and a deep respect for people.

For Senan Bienvenue Boko, Head Baker at Four Seasons Hotel Kuwait, baking is a craft built on patience, precision and curiosity. With 10 years of culinary experience, Senan leads the bakery team with a love for innovation and a passion for helping others grow. For him, every bread, pastry and baked creation is an opportunity to bring together skill, creativity and care.
One of the most meaningful chapters in his journey took him to Four Seasons Hotel George V, Paris, where he completed a cross exposure with the hotel’s bakery team. Working alongside Guillaume Cabrol, Head Baker of the iconic Parisian property, gave Senan the chance to exchange ideas, learn new techniques and return to Kuwait with fresh inspiration. It was a reminder that craftsmanship is not only passed through recipes, but through people, conversations and shared passion.
Today, Senan brings that experience into the bakery at Four Seasons Hotel Kuwait, where his work carries both global inspiration and personal pride. His goal is simple: to create moments guests can taste, remember and feel.

Sunim Gurung brings joy into service in a way that feels natural. Before joining luxury hospitality, she spent almost six years as a Zumba instructor, filling rooms with music, movement and energy. Her first step into hospitality came at a small non-profit café, where she worked across different roles and discovered how much she loved meeting people from different cultures.
Her journey was not always easy. During the pandemic, Sunim faced uncertainty, but she kept moving forward, working in creative and flexible ways before continuing her hospitality career in restaurants and hotels. Today, as part of the In Room Dining team at Four Seasons Hotel Kuwait, she brings that same warmth and positivity to the guest experience.
For Sunim, service is not only about what is delivered. It is about how people are made to feel. Kind, helpful and full of energy, she believes that even the smallest interaction can leave someone feeling cared for.

For Smarika Bohara, hospitality became a new way to connect with people. Originally from Nepal, Smarika began her career as a news anchor, where she learned how to communicate with confidence, listen with attention and share stories that mattered.
At Four Seasons Hotel Kuwait, she found a different kind of storytelling. As a Guestroom Attendant, her work is expressed through quiet details, thoughtful care and the small touches that help guests feel at ease. Smarika describes Four Seasons as “a university,” a place where she continues to learn, grow and discover new strengths.
Her background in media gave her confidence and presence. Hospitality gave her a new purpose: to create comfort, trust and a sense of belonging through the way she cares for others.

In The Spa, Mohamed Hlal brings the mindset of an athlete into every fitness journey. Before joining Four Seasons Hotel Kuwait as a Fitness Instructor, Mohamed’s life was shaped by discipline, high performance and international sport. He competed with the Tunisian National Team and later coached athletes across boxing and swimming.
But Mohamed’s story is not only about medals or titles. It is about what those years of focus, resilience and training allow him to give today. Who better to guide someone in the gym than someone who understands what it means to build strength, confidence and discipline from the inside out?
At Four Seasons Hotel Kuwait, Mohamed brings more than fitness knowledge. He brings encouragement, structure and the calm confidence of someone who has lived the journey himself. For guests and members, his sessions are not only about movement. They are about feeling stronger, more capable and more motivated.

Also in The Spa, Gede Erik Cahyadi brings the healing spirit of Bali to Kuwait. With more than 10 years of experience as a Spa Therapist, Erik has developed an intuitive understanding of the body and the way tension, stress and discomfort can be released through skilled, attentive care.
For Erik, no two guests are the same. Each treatment begins with listening, observing and understanding what the body needs. His strength lies in identifying pressure points and creating treatments that feel personal, restorative and deeply calming.
The moments that mean the most to him are the words guests share after a treatment, especially when they say his work feels different from anything they have experienced before. For Erik, that is the greatest reward: knowing that his care has helped someone feel lighter, calmer and restored.
Together, these five stories reflect the human side of Four Seasons Hotel Kuwait. A baker inspired by Paris. A former Zumba instructor who brings joy into service. A former news anchor who found a new language of care. A champion athlete helping others discover strength. A Balinese therapist creating moments of calm and renewal.
Different backgrounds. Different talents. One shared purpose.
To make people feel genuinely cared for.

]]>My Neighbor Totoro (1988)
Gentle, heartwarming, and endlessly charming, My Neighbor Totoro follows two sisters who discover magical creatures after moving to the countryside. It’s a celebration of childhood wonder, nature, and imagination, making it one of the studio’s most beloved films.
Kiki’s Delivery Service (1989)
Thirteen-year-old witch Kiki leaves home to begin her year of independence in a charming seaside town. Filled with sunny streets, flying adventures, and messages about finding confidence, it’s the ultimate feel-good summer film.
Ponyo (2008)
Inspired by The Little Mermaid, this colorful adventure tells the story of a magical goldfish who dreams of becoming human. With its ocean setting, playful energy, and vibrant animation, Ponyo feels like summer captured on screen.
Whisper of the Heart (1995)
A beautifully understated coming-of-age story about first love, creativity, and discovering your passions. Set in suburban Tokyo during a long summer, it’s one of Studio Ghibli’s most relatable and quietly inspiring films.
The Secret World of Arrietty (2010)
Based on The Borrowers, this enchanting story follows a tiny family living beneath the floorboards of a country house. The lush gardens, peaceful pace, and imaginative perspective make it a wonderfully cozy watch.
Howl’s Moving Castle (2004)
Magic, romance, and breathtaking animation come together in this fantasy classic. While it explores themes of courage and identity, its whimsical world, unforgettable characters, and iconic walking castle make it one of Ghibli’s most rewatchable films.
From Up on Poppy Hill (2011)
Set in 1960s Yokohama overlooking the sea, this nostalgic coming-of-age drama is filled with warm sunsets, vintage charm, and gentle romance. It’s a quieter Ghibli film, perfect for winding down after a long summer day.
Whether you’re revisiting a favorite or discovering one for the first time, Studio Ghibli’s films remind us that magic often lives in the smallest moments. All that’s left is to dim the lights, make a bowl of popcorn, and let the adventure begin.

]]>
Operated by Behbehani Motors Company, Porsche Centre Kuwait has been named Porsche Importer of the Year 2025 for the Middle East region, securing one of the German manufacturer’s most prestigious honors. The recognition marks the third time the Kuwaiti retailer has received the distinction, following previous victories in 2021 and 2022, underscoring a sustained commitment to excellence that few in the region can rival.
The award recognizes the retailer’s exceptional performance across all areas of the business. Judging criteria include customer satisfaction, service quality, sales innovation, team efficiency, and the ability to cultivate long-term loyalty to both retailer and brand.
Awarded annually to the most outstanding Porsche partner in the region, the title is reserved for retailers that excel across every aspect of the business—from customer satisfaction and aftersales care to innovation, operational performance, and long-term brand loyalty. For Porsche Centre Kuwait, the accolade reflects years of meticulous attention to detail and a relentless pursuit of excellence.

At the heart of this achievement lies an unwavering focus on the customer journey. Every interaction, from initial consultation and vehicle configuration to ownership support and specialist servicing, is carefully curated to deliver a seamless and highly personalized experience. The result is a remarkably loyal clientele, many of whom return time and again to expand their collections, upgrade their vehicles, and deepen their connection with the Porsche brand.
This award follows a standout year for Porsche Centre Kuwait. Other 2025 accolades included Pre-Owned Sales Excellence Award, the Porsche Aftersales World Challenge for Bodyshops, and Customer Prospect Management Essential Cockpit, as well as the Porsche Aftersales World Challenge. Together, these achievements reinforce the centre’s reputation as one of the most accomplished Porsche operations globally.

A key contributor to this success is the retailer’s landmark facility in Shuwaikh. Widely recognized as the largest Porsche showroom in the Middle East and North Africa, the destination exemplifies the modern luxury retail experience. Sophisticated digital technologies, immersive displays, personalized consultation areas, and elevated hospitality services combine to create an environment that reflects Porsche’s DNA of innovation, performance, and precision.
Beyond showcasing the latest models from Stuttgart, the centre offers discerning clients access to some of Porsche’s most exclusive personalization programs. Through Paint to Sample and Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur, owners can commission highly bespoke vehicles tailored to their individual tastes, creating truly unique expressions of automotive craftsmanship. Every detail, from color palettes and interior materials to bespoke finishes and design elements, can be refined to reflect the personality and lifestyle of the owner.

The centre’s commitment to automotive heritage is equally impressive. As one of only three officially appointed Porsche Classic Partners across the Middle East and Africa, Porsche Centre Kuwait occupies a rare position within the global Porsche network. This designation recognizes specialized expertise in preserving and maintaining classic Porsche models, ensuring that the marque’s rich legacy continues to thrive for future generations of enthusiasts and collectors.
The past year has also witnessed growing engagement from customers, reflected in increased showroom visits, highly personalized consultations, and a resurgence of exclusive events and curated brand experiences. These initiatives have further strengthened the emotional connection between Porsche and its clientele, transforming ownership into a lifestyle defined by passion, performance, and exclusivity.
Commenting on the achievement, Hany Marie, General Manager of Porsche Centre Kuwait, said:
“This recognition means a great deal to our entire team because it reflects the work happening every day across every department. To receive this award again, alongside several global Porsche achievements this year, is something we are incredibly proud of. It motivates us to continue raising the standard for our customers and further strengthening the Porsche experience in Kuwait.”

As luxury consumers increasingly seek meaningful experiences alongside exceptional products, Porsche Centre Kuwait continues to demonstrate what modern luxury retail should aspire to be. Through innovation, service excellence, and an unwavering commitment to customer satisfaction, it has established itself as one of the region’s most influential automotive destinations.
This latest recognition is more than an award—it is a testament to a vision that places excellence at the centre of every customer interaction. In doing so, Porsche Centre Kuwait continues to define the benchmark for luxury automotive retail in the Middle East while reinforcing Kuwait’s standing on the global Porsche stage.

]]>Do the audit Take everything out. Not to Marie Kondo it, not to make three piles with labels, just to see what you actually own. Most people are surprised. There are things at the back of the wardrobe that were good purchases, still fit well, and have been invisible for two years simply because they got buried. The audit isn’t a chore. It’s reconnaissance.
Learn your actual uniform Look at what you reach for every single week without thinking. That is your real style, not your aspirational style, not what you bought for a version of your life that hasn’t materialized. Once you know your uniform, you can start building around it intentionally rather than accumulating things that never quite connect.
Treat alterations as an investment A hem that’s two centimeters too long, a waist that needs taking in, a sleeve that sits slightly wrong: these small fits are why good clothes stay unworn. A tailor costs a fraction of a new piece and can transform something you already own into something you’ll actually reach for. Kuwait has no shortage of good tailors, and the results are almost always worth it.
Relearn proportion and layering The same five pieces worn differently read as ten different outfits if you understand proportion. A longer shirt under a shorter jacket. Trousers worn higher. A scarf used as a belt. These are not tricks so much as a closer reading of what clothes can do when you’re paying attention.
Borrow before you buy Before purchasing something for a specific occasion or to fill a perceived gap, ask whether you can borrow it first. A friend’s blazer for one event, a bag for a trip. If you wear it and feel nothing particularly strong, you’ve saved yourself the purchase. If you can’t stop thinking about it, you’ve confirmed the buy is worth making.
The one-in-one-out rule Not as a minimalism exercise, but as a clarity one. When something new comes in, something goes out. It forces a genuine assessment of whether the new thing is actually better than what it’s replacing, which is a question most impulse purchases can’t answer honestly.
Reframe what “new” means Wearing something you haven’t worn in a year feels new. Styling something differently feels new. Giving a piece a context it hasn’t had before feels new. Novelty in a wardrobe doesn’t require a purchase. It usually just requires a little more imagination than scrolling a product page.

]]>Paint Your Own Candles
Plain pillar or taper candles become miniature works of art with a few paint pens or acrylic paints. Experiment with abstract patterns, florals, stripes, or colorful illustrations that match your home’s aesthetic. Everyone leaves with a candle that’s as decorative as it is practical.
Create a Charm Bar
Charm bars have become one of the biggest DIY trends, and it’s easy to see why. Fill bowls with beads, chains, pearls, letters, and colorful charms, then let everyone design their own bracelets, necklaces, or phone charms. There are no rules, making every piece completely personal.
Sculpt with Air-Dry Clay
Air-dry clay is inexpensive, forgiving, and surprisingly satisfying to work with. Spend the evening making jewelry dishes, trinket trays, candle holders, bud vases, or decorative coasters. Once dry, paint them in soft neutrals or vibrant colors for pieces that look far more expensive than they are.
Design a Vision Board
Pull out old magazines, newspapers, wrapping paper, stickers, and colorful cardstock, then spend the evening creating vision boards. They don’t have to focus on goals alone. Choose themes like dream vacations, future homes, career aspirations, personal growth, or simply “things that make me happy.” It’s a creative activity that naturally sparks meaningful conversations.
Customize Tote Bags or T-Shirts
Give plain cotton tote bags or white T-shirts a personal touch using fabric paint, stamps, stencils, iron-on patches, or embroidery thread. Whether everyone creates bold graphic designs or playful inside jokes, the finished pieces become wearable souvenirs from the evening.
Pressed Flower Art
Pressed flowers instantly make any craft feel elegant. Arrange dried blooms and leaves into bookmarks, greeting cards, framed artwork, or personalized gift tags. It’s a slow, mindful activity that’s surprisingly relaxing and beautiful enough to display long after the evening ends.
Host a Sip & Sketch Challenge
No artistic skills required. Write a collection of funny drawing prompts, such as “your dream holiday,” “your pet as royalty,” or “your best friend as a movie character,” and place them in a bowl. Give everyone ten minutes to sketch before revealing the masterpieces. The fun comes from seeing how differently everyone interprets the same prompt.
Set the mood with a great playlist, a grazing board, and your favorite drinks, then let the conversation flow as naturally as the creativity. At the end of the night, everyone goes home with more than a handmade keepsake. They leave with new memories, plenty of laughs, and the perfect excuse to do it all again.

]]>The post QASIMI: THE ART OF THE PERMANENT appeared first on bazaar.town.
]]>It is this balance of softness and form that defines their latest milestone: the launch of the brand’s first Permanent Leather Goods Collection.
Conceived not as a passing seasonal release but as a foundational pillar for the brand, this collection translates the utilitarian spirit of nomadic carrying objects into refined, contemporary forms. Crafted from premium, supple nappa leather in timeless black and rich brown, the range feels tactile and purposeful. From the versatility of the tote and the ease of the crossbody to the simplicity of the wash bag and card holder, every piece is designed to evolve. These are objects intended to age beautifully, picking up the patina of a life lived in motion.
Since Sheikha Hoor Al Qasimi took the helm in 2019 to preserve the legacy of her late twin brother, founder Khalid Al Qasimi, the brand has remained steadfast in its mission. The QASIMI narrative centers on the “urban nomad”, an individual moving through global cultures, seeking to unite rather than divide through the powerful medium of design.
With this collection, that narrative becomes something you can carry with you. It is a seamless extension of the brand’s philosophy: clothing and objects that move with their wearer, offering a sense of purpose that remains long after the season ends.
The collection is designed to be more than just accessories; it is an invitation to integrate QASIMI’s ethos of refined, functional luxury into the daily ritual. In a world of fast-moving fashion, this permanent line is a commitment to longevity, quality, and the idea that the best objects are those that grow with you.
As the brand moves into its second decade, this debut into leather goods marks a maturation of its vision. It bridges the gap between the runway and the reality of daily life, proving that fashion can be both intellectually engaging and deeply practical. Whether navigating city streets or embarking on international journeys, the pieces offer the wearer a constant: a sense of grounded, understated sophistication.
By focusing on the essentials of form and the integrity of materials, QASIMI ensures that these leather goods are not just possessions, but companions for the long road ahead. It is a new chapter, certainly, but one that feels entirely consistent with the brand’s storied past.

]]>The post SUMMER MADE SOFTER appeared first on bazaar.town.
]]>The principle is the same one that governs what we wear. When the temperature climbs, we reach for linen and cotton, for fabrics that breathe and move and don’t demand anything of the body. The home responds to the same logic. Swapping out heavy bedding, dense throws, and thick bath textiles for their summer counterparts is one of the most effective ways to change how a space feels without changing the space itself. Bedding alone covers enough surface area that a single change of material, color, or weight can shift the entire mood of a bedroom. Abyat’s summer textile range is built around exactly this idea, anchored by three collections: Bamboo, Resort, and Prestige.

The Material Conversation
Not all fabrics perform equally when temperatures push past 45 degrees, and the difference between a good summer textile and a great one comes down to what happens at the level of the fiber itself.
Bamboo is the quiet revelation of recent seasons. The natural air channels within bamboo yarn increase airflow in a way that synthetic cooling claims rarely deliver on. It is hypoallergenic, fast-drying, and antibacterial, which means that even in humid conditions, freshness is maintained rather than fought for. The feel is silky without being slippery, and the Bamboo Collection at Abyat carries that quality across fitted sheets, duvet covers, pillowcases, dressing gowns and sleeping masks, all finished at a 300-thread-count that sits comfortably between performance and indulgence.
For families with young children, Abyat offers a blend of Bamboo and BCI cotton which is grown by farmers trained by the Better Cotton Initiative, a global non-profit that promotes eco-friendly and socially responsible farming methods that use significantly less water and pesticides during cultivation. Softer, safer and sustainable materials for your loved ones. The Bamboo Swaddle Collection extends this same philosophy with a blend of 70% bamboo and 30% BCI cotton gauze, a fabric that is gentle, breathable, and designed around the needs of small bodies during the hottest months. If your little one has outgrown the swaddle, it is time to upgrade to the kids bedding, made from 60% Bamboo and 40% BCI Cotton, so they can sleep comfortably and have more energy for play and growth during the day.

Egyptian cotton tells a different story. Where bamboo feels precise and modern, Egyptian cotton is classic in the best sense. The long-staple fibers create a larger surface area that absorbs moisture efficiently, which is why the Resort Collection, built on Egyptian cotton at thread counts reaching 600, carries the quality of a luxurious 5-star hotel room. The towels are dense and structured without feeling oppressive. The bathrobes feel effortless to wear. It is the kind of textile that improves with every wash rather than diminishing, and the collection is designed to recreate a luxury hospitality experience within the home rather than merely approximate it.
The Prestige Collection sits in its own register. French-inspired in its sensibility, it brings a more decorative elegance to bedding and bath, layering refinement into rooms where comfort and sophistication need to coexist. For those who want summer to feel elevated as much as restful, it provides the answer.

Small Changes, Real Impact
The upgrades that make the most visible difference are not always the largest ones. Beyond bedding, the textile decisions that carry disproportionate weight are often the ones most easily dismissed. Lighter cushion covers can refresh an entire living room without touching the furniture. A waffle-weave towel, with its distinctive texture and exceptional absorbency at a lighter weight, brings something new to a bathroom in a way that feels considered rather than decorated. Table runners, placemats, and tablecloths in natural cotton or linen change the atmosphere of a dining table in a way that reads as seasonal without requiring effort to maintain.
Curtains and window treatments deserve more attention than they typically receive. Thermally isolating options help stabilize room temperature during the peak afternoon hours, while linen curtains add softness and movement to a space. The two approaches can work across different rooms of the same home, addressing both comfort and style without conflict. In bedrooms and living rooms where air conditioning runs consistently, the Resort Collection performs particularly well, with its premium Egyptian cotton holding its comfort level regardless of the internal climate. The Hungarian Down and Feather Duvet is a dream come true, providing comfort and fluffiness all year round because it stays cool in the summer and warm in winter.

Color plays its own role in how a space feels during summer. This season, the tones responding most strongly to the Kuwait climate are oatmeal, off-white, sage, classic white, and the soft greige that has been building momentum for several years. They are colors that read as cool even on the hottest days, and they coordinate naturally with the organic textures of bamboo and linen without requiring precision in how they are combined.

The Personalization Layer
Abyat’s in-store embroidery service has expanded beyond its original gifting context into something more personal. Customers are increasingly personalizing textiles for their own homes rather than as presents, treating it as a form of quiet self-expression and, in larger households, a practical way to distinguish shared pieces. A monogram on a bathrobe. Initials on a guest towel set. A child’s name stitched onto a swaddle. The service is available at the Shuwaikh and Warehouse branches, with 38 thread colors across Arabic and English fonts, and a turnaround for most pieces of approximately 20 minutes.

What makes personalized textiles feel more significant than most personalized objects is that they are used daily. Unlike a framed piece or a decorative object that holds its meaning at a distance, a monogrammed robe is something you reach for every morning. The function and the sentiment become inseparable, which is why this category continues to grow well beyond the gifting season.
Summer, approached this way, stops being a season to manage and becomes one to actually inhabit. The home gets quieter, lighter, and more genuinely comfortable. That is not a small thing when the city outside is 48 degrees.

]]>Located just two hours from the kinetic energy of Tokyo, this region serves as an antithesis to the frantic pace of modern life. It is not a destination for the check-list traveler, but rather for those who seek to engage with the natural world through a lens of comfort and curiosity. Whether you are navigating the rolling foothills or retreating into an art-filled sanctuary, the highlands invite you to abandon the itinerary and simply exist within the landscape.
The New Way to Roam
In the Yatsugatake Highlands, the terrain is vast, covering the intersection of Yamanashi and Nagano Prefectures. The modern solution to traversing this sprawl? The e-bike. Far from the intensity of traditional cycling, guided e-bike tours are designed for the gentle exploration of rural Japan. With electric-assisted support, the landscape becomes accessible to everyone, from families to the leisurely traveler. These routes are meticulously curated to wind through quiet forest trails and local farmland, turning a standard excursion into an intimate encounter with the region’s seasonal production and rural pulse.
Perspectives at Altitude
At 1,300 meters, Fujimi Kogen Resort offers an elevated take on the mountain experience. Here, the “Sozo-no-Mori” observation area acts as a natural gallery, providing sweeping views that stretch toward the Northern Japanese Alps and the iconic silhouette of Mount Fuji. But the resort’s true innovation lies in its hospitality. With services like the “Sky Cart,” the physical barrier to enjoying such vistas is removed. It is a thoughtful design approach, one that prioritizes accessibility and comfort, allowing visitors to dictate the pace of their own day, whether through forest trekking, a round of golf, or simply taking in the altitude.
The Season on a Plate
To understand Shinshu, which is modern-day Nagano, is to understand its rhythm of growth. Blessed with long hours of sun and dramatic temperature shifts between day and night, the region is a powerhouse of Japanese agriculture. At Miharashi Farm, situated against the backdrop of the Southern Japanese Alps, the calendar is dictated by the harvest. It is a place to connect with the land in its purest form: picking strawberries in the spring, blueberries in the heat of summer, or harvesting apples as the season turns. For those traveling in groups, the farm offers a grounding, tactile connection to local food culture, from the discipline of soba-making to the simple pleasure of walking trails that feel miles away from the world outside.
A Stay-in Museum
Perhaps the most distinctive retreat in the region is Hotel Keyforest Hokuto. In the highlands of Kobuchizawa, the property eschews the conventional hotel format in favor of a “stay-in museum” concept. Art is not merely a feature here; it is the core of the guest experience, with contemporary works integrated seamlessly into the property’s architectural DNA.
With only six rooms, the hotel offers a rare sense of intimacy. Large, floor-to-ceiling windows act as living frames for the Yatsugatake Mountains, while forest pathways connect guests directly to the Nakamura Keith Haring Collection. For those requiring total seclusion, the Ayus Villa Misen offers a private onsen and a rooftop terrace perfect for observing the crisp, clear mountain night skies.
It is a reminder that the most successful retreats are those that remove the noise of everyday life, leaving only the essentials: fresh air, thoughtful design, and a landscape that, for a few days at least, belongs entirely to you.

]]>Every kid in Kuwait knew how to ice skate. Now, that’s not just an aspiration or a false claim; it’s a fact I can vouch for. He can, and so can all his friends! The Ice Skating Rink was the spot to be seen at if you were a cool kid, and many summers were spent skating against the backdrop of the latest music. Inaugurated in 1980, the rink was not only the first in Kuwait but also the first ice skating complex in the Middle East. I learned how it was minimalistic and not commercial, “The way most entertainment zones meant for kids these days are.” It was large, with walls adorned in geometric Sadu weaving patterns. It was cool not only to be inside, but also the time spent on the seats around the rink, or even waiting outside to be picked up by parents, was as exciting. And how much did it cost for, say, an hour of fun? “KD 5.00/person for a 1.5-hour session, including skate rentals!” And at just KD 1.50, you could rent the penguin-shaped walker.
And then there were Marina Beach days in Salmiya; as school-going children, everyone looked forward to this outing. When school was on, herds of kids in school buses would make their way, with a snack and beachwear in the excursion bags. “Just a drive on the Gulf Road and you could see the beaches and ocean; they stay full in view, not hidden by a barrage of buildings.” Sunrise at the beach was another common activity and summer goal.
There was also some gully cricket in the home compound, a few cycle rides in the neighborhood (and when left unlocked, they were stolen, but that’s a story for a different day), and when there was not much to do, there was always the KDD Rocket Lolly (apparently, banana and raspberry were the most popular) to fall back on. Growing up brought it with it, Sheesha, yes, even in the summer: It was and perhaps still is the one staple pleasure of their lives. I laugh, comparing it to the gathering of men over a game of backgammon or a Karak. “Back then, you could easily spend an evening for just 1 KD sheesha.”
The ice skating rink was demolished in 2020. Most of the beaches are now promenades lined with fine-dining eateries. Sheesha flavors cost a tad more and are fancier, too. But what’s stayed intact is the resilience of the kids, now adults, who know that after having spent a handful of summers in the country, one grows fond of even 46 degrees, out of habit, yes, but also out of love.

]]>Her path to Brazilian lymphatic drainage was shaped by the treatment’s rare ability to hold two things at once: visible results and genuine internal benefit. Clients often arrive drawn by the promise of reduced bloating or a slimmer silhouette, and Nakooda welcomes that. But she knows the real conversion happens later. “People come in for the aesthetic results, and that is completely valid,” she says. “But what surprises them is how different they feel. Not just how they look, but how they actually feel in their body.”

Brazilian lymphatic drainage is a highly specialized bodywork technique, distinct from a traditional massage in both its method and its intention. Where a conventional massage works the muscles, lymphatic drainage works the system beneath, using precise, rhythmic movements to stimulate the lymphatic network and encourage the efficient clearance of excess fluid and waste from the body. The shift clients feel is almost immediate: lighter, more comfortable, more at ease.
The lymphatic system is one the body rarely draws our attention to until something feels off. A persistent puffiness, a heaviness that sleep does not shift, a bloated discomfort that seems to have no clear cause. Unlike the circulatory system, which is driven by the steady rhythm of the heart, the lymphatic system has no dedicated pump. It depends entirely on movement, breath, and muscle contraction to keep things flowing. When life becomes sedentary, stressful, or out of balance, the system slows, and the body begins to hold on. “Most people have no idea how much the lymphatic system affects how they feel day to day,” Nakooda explains. “Fatigue, puffiness, that heavy feeling you cannot shake: so much of that comes back to lymphatic sluggishness. Once clients understand that, everything clicks.”

Clients consistently leave her sessions reporting less bloating, deeper relaxation, and a renewed sense of energy they had not realized they were missing. The results are tangible enough that Nakooda often documents them. Every session begins with a thorough consultation, during which she takes time to understand each client’s lifestyle, health concerns, and personal goals. Before-and-after photography is a regular part of the process, offering a clear, objective record of what the body can release in a single appointment. It is a grounding exercise as much as a practical one: a way of making the invisible visible.
She is careful, however, not to position the treatment as a standalone solution. The results of lymphatic drainage are shaped, in large part, by what happens outside the treatment room. “I always tell my clients that I can only do so much in the session itself,” she says. “What you do the other 23 hours of the day matters just as much. Are you hydrating properly? Are you sleeping? Are you moving?” Hydration, sleep, stress management, and a balanced diet all play a significant role in sustaining the body’s internal flow. Movement, too, is non-negotiable, whether through walking, structured exercise, or something as simple and underestimated as deep, deliberate breathing.

A single session can offer an immediate and welcome shift, but Nakooda is clear that it is the combination of consistent treatment and conscious daily habits that produces real, lasting change. This philosophy extends beyond lymphatic drainage and into every aspect of her practice. As a personal trainer and Pilates instructor, she approaches the body as an interconnected system rather than a collection of isolated concerns, and she brings that same holistic thinking to every client she works with.
The response in Kuwait has exceeded her expectations. What she has encountered is not a clientele seeking a cosmetic shortcut, but one with a genuine and growing appetite for understanding how their bodies actually work. “Kuwait has surprised me in the best way,” she says. “People here are curious. They want to understand the why, not just the result. That makes the work so much more meaningful.” That curiosity, she believes, is exactly the foundation that lasting wellness is built on.
Her goal, as she continues to expand her practice, remains rooted in education and empowerment. She wants more people to understand that Brazilian lymphatic drainage is not a beauty treatment with a wellness story bolted on. It is a restorative, medically informed practice with real implications for long-term physical comfort, confidence, and quality of life. “The body wants to function well,” she says. “Sometimes it just needs a little help finding its flow.”

]]>The feed is not your friend Social media didn’t invent self-presentation, but it industrialized it. Every platform rewards a specific version of you, and over time, most people quietly begin to edit themselves toward whatever gets the warmest response. The danger isn’t that you’re being fake. It’s that you stop noticing the gap between who you are and who you’re posting.
Aesthetic as identity When a visual language becomes a personality, something gets flattened. Cottagecore, clean girl, that girl, quiet luxury: each one is a coherent world with its own rules, its own products, its own approved emotions. They’re appealing precisely because they’re complete. But identity built entirely from borrowed imagery tends to feel hollow from the inside, even when it looks cohesive from the outside.
The nostalgia trap One response to post-authenticity overload is a retreat into “realness”: grain, disposable cameras, unedited dumps, lo-fi everything. But nostalgia for analogue texture is still a curated choice. Performing rawness is still a performance. The longing is genuine. The expression of it rarely is.
What actually holds The things that feel most real tend to be the ones that exist entirely off-screen: the conversation that went too long, the meal that nobody photographed, the friendship that has never been posted about once. Not because offline is inherently more authentic, but because those moments were never shaped for an audience. They were just allowed to happen.
Authenticity vs. sincerity, and why the distinction matters Authenticity asks: am I being true to myself? Sincerity asks: do I actually mean this? They sound like the same question, but they’re not. Authenticity has become so tied to self-expression and personal brand that it can justify almost anything, including behavior that is entirely self-serving, as long as it feels genuine to the person doing it. Sincerity is quieter and harder to fake. It has less to do with how you present yourself and more to do with whether you’re actually present, whether you mean what you say, whether you’d do this if no one were watching. In a post-authenticity world, sincerity is the better metric, not because it’s more honest, but because it’s directed outward rather than inward. It asks less about who you are and more about what you owe the moment you’re in.
The question worth sitting with Not “am I being authentic?” but “do I actually mean this?” The first question has an audience. The second one doesn’t need one.

]]>Psychologist Dr. Teresa Belton, who has researched boredom and creativity, argues that periods of unstructured time encourage children to develop imagination, problem-solving skills, and independence. The key is offering a spark rather than a fully planned activity.
Here are five fun, completely free ways to turn an ordinary afternoon into an adventure.
Build an Indoor Obstacle Course
Gather cushions, chairs, blankets, masking tape, and anything else that’s already around the house. Create tunnels to crawl through, balance lines on the floor, jumping stations, or “lava” that can only be crossed using cushions.
The best part? Let your children design the course themselves after the first round. Planning the challenge often takes longer than completing it, keeping them entertained while encouraging creativity, spatial thinking, and teamwork.
Create a Family Art Gallery
Instead of asking children to simply draw, give them a mission. Create artwork around a theme such as “My Dream Vacation,” “Under the Sea,” or “Invent a New Animal.”
Display every masterpiece around the house like a real gallery. Make simple labels with the artist’s name and title, then spend ten minutes “touring” the exhibition together.
Children often become far more invested when their creations are celebrated rather than simply placed on the refrigerator.
Go on a Nature Treasure Hunt
You don’t need a forest or a park to explore nature. A garden, apartment courtyard, or neighborhood street works just as well.
Create a simple list of things to find: something smooth, something rough, a feather, a flower, a heart-shaped leaf, an interesting rock, or something that smells nice.
The goal isn’t collecting everything, but encouraging children to slow down and really observe the world around them.
Become Kitchen Scientists
The kitchen is full of simple science experiments.
See whether different objects float or sink. Mix baking soda and vinegar if you already have them. Freeze small toys inside ice cubes and challenge children to “rescue” them using warm water and spoons. Experiment with what dissolves in water and what doesn’t.
The activity feels like play while naturally introducing observation, prediction, and experimentation.
Put on a Living Room Talent Show
Encourage everyone in the family to prepare a short performance. It could be singing, dancing, telling jokes, magic tricks, poetry, storytelling, or even teaching a new skill.
Create homemade tickets, assign someone as the host, and applaud every performance. Younger children especially love having an audience, and preparing their act builds confidence as well as communication skills.
Let Boredom Do Some of the Work
Perhaps the most valuable activity is doing…nothing.
It may sound counterintuitive, but experts suggest that children don’t need every minute scheduled. After the initial complaints, many begin inventing games, building imaginary worlds, or finding projects of their own. Those moments of self-directed play build resilience, independence, and creativity in ways structured entertainment often cannot.
This summer, resist the pressure to fill every hour. Sometimes all children need is a little inspiration, a little space, and permission to be wonderfully bored before their imagination takes over.

]]>That evolution culminates in If You Cannot Say GENOCIDE: Essays on Conscience and Witness, a collection of 47 essays written between 2023 and 2026 that examine grief, memory, language, and the moral responsibilities of those watching history unfold from afar. The book’s striking cover features I See Birds, an artwork by Palestinian artist Malak Mattar, whose haunting visual language reflects the themes of resilience, humanity, and remembrance woven throughout the collection. Rather than offering political analysis alone, the book asks a deeper question: What happens when conscience refuses to look away?
“It wasn’t a conscious decision,” Lababidi says of the transition. “Something dried up in me after Palestine Wail. I’ve not been able to write poems since. If I cannot sing, I told myself, I must at least faithfully document the unrelenting awfulness of the news.”
For him, prose became the only form capable of carrying the weight of the moment.
“Poetry cries out,” he explains. “Prose asks why the cry goes unheard.”
That distinction lies at the heart of the collection. The essays move fluidly between memoir, philosophy, literary criticism, and cultural reflection, creating a body of work that is as introspective as it is urgent. Rather than documenting events alone, Lababidi examines the language surrounding them, questioning how public discourse determines what is acknowledged, what is forgotten, and what remains unspeakable.
The book’s title is perhaps its most direct statement.
“Naming matters,” he says. “When the words that describe the horrors on the ground are replaced with softer alternatives, something essential is lost.”
For Lababidi, language is never neutral. The words societies choose or refuse to use ultimately shape public memory, political accountability, and collective conscience. To avoid certain words, he argues, is often to soften the reality they describe.
Although the essays were written from the United States, distance never translated into detachment. If anything, Lababidi believes physical separation heightened his sense of responsibility.
“When your home is on fire, you feel the heat halfway across the world,” he says. “Distance does not collapse responsibility. If anything, it increases it.”

His perspective is informed by multiple identities: an American citizen, an Arab, whose grandparents were Palestinian and a writer whose career has consistently explored questions of belonging and displacement. Those intersecting experiences allow the essays to move beyond immediate events, reflecting instead on what it means to remain ethically engaged in an age saturated with information but often marked by emotional fatigue.
Lababidi’s grandfather, Yahya Lababidi, served as subdirector of Arabic music at Radio Jerusalem, where he worked alongside the poet Ibrahim Tuqan, and famously wrote the lyrics for “Ya Ritni Tir” (يتني طيرر يا) the song that launched Farid al-Atrash’s career as a singer. His grandmother, Rabiha Dajani, later became a pioneering educator in Kuwait, where she founded Jeel Al Jadeed, among the country’s earliest private girls’ schools.
What distinguishes If You Cannot Say GENOCIDE from many contemporary political books is its unwavering belief in literature itself.
Throughout the collection, Lababidi draws on poets, philosophers, novelists, and historians, arguing that literature remains one of humanity’s most powerful tools for preserving dignity in moments of profound loss. Where politics often reduces people to statistics or headlines, art restores complexity.
“Art honors the richness of the human spirit in ways that politics cannot,” he says. “Literature helps breathe warmth and complexity into the caricatures on the news.”

It is a philosophy that has shaped his writing throughout his career. If You Cannot Say GENOCIDE marks his sixteenth book, joining a body of work that includes poetry, essays, aphorisms, and reflections translated into more than a dozen languages. His writing has appeared in publications including Liberties, The New Statesman, The Threepenny Review, World Literature Today, and The New Arab, establishing him as a distinctive literary voice whose work often bridges the personal and the philosophical.
The response to the book has reflected that literary positioning. Historians, scholars, and public intellectuals including Peter Beinart, Hamid Dabashi, Sarah Leah Whitson, Ilan Pappé, and Norman Finkelstein have praised the collection for combining moral inquiry with literary craftsmanship, emphasizing its insistence on confronting difficult realities through language rather than looking away.
Yet for Lababidi, the book is ultimately less about persuading readers than inviting them into a shared humanity.
“At the heart of our catastrophes is a crisis of love,” he says. “The world still assigns different values to different human lives.”
He hopes readers leave with a renewed sense of empathy rather than certainty.
“I would hope a sympathetic reader might be moved toward greater pity and mercy,” he says, “and toward the sobering recognition that, but for the grace of God, it might have been them, or their own children.”

Even those approaching the book with skepticism, he believes, deserve an invitation rather than a condemnation.
“All I ask is that they remain open long enough to recognize the person writing,” he says. “Someone who loves literature and prays, who carries a family history, and who arrived at these conclusions honestly.”
In an era increasingly defined by polarization, If You Cannot Say GENOCIDE offers neither easy answers nor ideological certainty. Instead, it asks readers to consider the relationship between language and responsibility, and whether bearing witness begins with something as simple, and as difficult, as refusing silence.
For Lababidi, literature has always been a search for truth. This time, it became an act of conscience.
If You Cannot Say GENOCIDE: Essays on Conscience and Witness is published by New Village Press, distributed by NYU Press, and will be available October 6, 2026. You can find Yahia on Instagram: @yahialababidi

]]>It is easy to view the furniture that no longer fits these evolving chapters as clutter. We often feel a sense of hesitation when it comes time to move on from a well-loved bookshelf, a sturdy dining table, or a desk that supported years of creative work. We know these pieces are still in good condition, but they simply no longer fit the story we are telling at home. In the past, the logistical challenge of moving these large items meant that furniture often stayed hidden in storage or was discarded before its time. But what if the most sustainable way to move forward was to ensure your furniture kept its journey going elsewhere?

A new chapter for your cherished pieces
IKEA is changing the narrative of home ownership with the launch of their new Buyback service. This is not about letting go of your past, but about embracing the future of your home. It is a thoughtful, intentional way to ensure your well-loved pieces find a new chapter, effectively closing the loop on home essentials and proving that quality furniture is meant to last.
The IKEA Buyback service offers customers a simple, practical way to extend the life of their furniture while making more sustainable choices at home. Through this service, you can return your gently used, fully assembled IKEA furniture to IKEA in exchange for an in-store voucher.
Designed to support circular living, this service gives pre-loved pieces a second life. Each item is assessed to ensure it meets quality standards, so it can continue to be used and enjoyed in another home. So rather than letting well-loved IKEA furniture go to waste, customers are encouraged to bring it back at any time of the year. In return, you receive a voucher to spend in-store, while your furniture is prepared for resale – helping reduce waste and supporting more sustainable everyday living. It’s a straightforward way to refresh your space responsibly, while knowing your furniture continues its journey beyond your home.
IKEA makes it easier with pick-ups
Large furniture can be difficult to move, and it’s often this challenge that leads people to hold onto items longer than they need, even when they are no longer in use.
To address this, IKEA has expanded the Buyback service with a convenient pick-up option, making the process more accessible and convenient. By removing the need to transport bulky items yourself, the service supports customers in taking part in circular living without added effort or disruption to their routine.
The Buyback pick-up service is designed to simplify the experience: no heavy lifting, no complex coordination; just a straightforward way to return your furniture.
By integrating pick-up into the service, IKEA helps turn what could be a time-consuming task into a smooth and practical solution. It reflects a simple idea: that making more sustainable choices at home should be easy, accessible, and fit naturally into everyday life.

A win-win for everyone
With the Buyback service, it’s simple: you return your furniture, receive a voucher, and use it to bring something new into your home. At the same time, someone else gets the chance to take home your pre-loved piece and enjoy it for its quality and design.
The in-store voucher helps make your next purchase more affordable, whether you are refreshing a space or adding something you’ve been wanting for a while. And your furniture continues its life in another home, where it can still be used and appreciated.
It’s a practical, everyday cycle that reflects what IKEA stands for: good quality products that are made to last, and a better way of living where nothing goes to waste.
A seamless and easy process
For those ready to start their next home chapter, the process is designed to be clear and transparent. Most IKEA furniture in good, sturdy condition is eligible for buyback. You begin by visiting the IKEA Kuwait website to complete an online form where you will provide details and photos of the furniture to receive an initial quotation. The final assessment will be completed with an IKEA expert team member.
You can choose to bring the item to the store yourself or take advantage of the at-home assessment and pick-up service for a completely hands-off experience. After the final evaluation by an IKEA expert, your store voucher will be issued, ready for you to use on your next home improvement project.
We are moving towards a more thoughtful way of living at home, where the things we own are valued and made to last. The Buyback service offers a simple way to take part in this, helping you pass on furniture you no longer need while keeping your own space fresh and relevant.
Your home is always evolving, and so are the pieces within it. By giving your well-loved furniture a second life, you allow it to continue being used and appreciated in another home, while making room for what suits you now.
It’s a cycle that supports better use of resources, benefits others, and makes everyday living more mindful.
That’s what it means to have IKEA by your side, making it easier to create a better life at home.
Ready to start your next chapter? Visit the site to learn more about the Buyback service, check the eligibility of your furniture, and discover how you can begin your journey toward a more sustainable home today.
