]]>Unfortunately, with the season closure we didn’t get to spend a bunch of time with our Walrus friends. We did however, make sure to acknowledge that the herd was intact and in good apparent health. We were very careful not to disturb them as they were at total peace on their majestic haul-out.
Good to see that the bears have managed to hold the fort down without our lodge opening!! There seem to be a bunch more bears around and fox.
The area biology is bustling without people and I miss being close to the Wild!! Next year…

BOOK YOUR 2021 ALASKA WALRUS AND WILDLIFE TOUR EARLY. Alaska Walrus and Wildlife Tours limits the number of participants on each tour. Expect no more than 6 guests in a party and just two parties per tour. Just 12 a Tour guests at the lodge during your stay. We will be accommodating those we postponed from 2020 tours. ]]>This visit was all about good times! Our focus was wildlife drawing.
The day was as good as it gets… true to form, lighting, shading and proportion. We learned an artist’s formula for drawing the perfect mammal face and we will practice drawing what we see!
We were students that saw a guest’s artistic mediums and techniques to create wildlife walrus portraits! Amazing and thankful.
A camera is cool…but the realism of this art was something we have never seen. So much fun, even if my drawing resembled a child’s creation! Haha.

]]>It has been a summer to remember! Blue skies, warm weather and abundant walrus at our favorite haul out, just minutes from our comfortable Wildman Wilderness Lodge.
In August, we again captured on camera, the infamous THREE TUSK WALRUS, which will photographed back in 2017. The same, one of a kind, three tusk bull walrus visited us again this fall. An incredible and rare sight indeed!

]]>1 day Study: Mission, to photo-identify Walrus for long term survival research. This was a chance not only for the research biologists to learn about our Wildman Walrus population, but for us to learn from the biologists about our incredible visitors. The flight over was smooth and steady with beach landing.
A few special bird sightings include the Emperor Goose and several Harlequin Ducks. 15 bull Walrus were identified for future research to establish the baseline for Wally mortality on the Alaska Peninsula’s Bering Sea. An estimated 175 members of the herd were hauled out and enjoying the day with us during pinniped rest period.

]]>In this never been see occurrence, an estimated 240 Walrus culminated along the shore of our beaches. The Taylors, along with a couple of monster Brown Bears welcomed the new herd to the area. Jake and guides aimed their photo gear at the bears to get some amazing images of the bears skulking in the grasses downwind.
The Walrus were extremely active getting settled on the warm sands after apparently taking advantage of the sunny day. The Taylor party agreed that the Wally show was never to be forgotten.
