]]>Do you have a loved one behind bars? Keeping in touch and showing your support for them is a way to keep your loved one connected and in the loop about your life and the “outside” world.
However, both Seminole and Orange County jails have strict rules on how you can do this.
In the Seminole County Jail, the John E. Polk Correctional Facility, there are very strict rules regarding what an inmate can receive. As of 2018, an inmate can only receive mail and magazines as long as the magazines meet the “decency standards” of the jail.

In Orange County, there are similar procedures in place. All mail is opened by the staff and scanned into their “Smart Communications postal mail system.” Your loved one can then review their mail on a kiosk or tablet.

]]>Memorial Day Weekend in Florida,what will that look like for you?
Memorial Day weekend is a great time to get out in the Florida sunshine. Fire up the grill, head to the beach, explore the theme parks, or head out on a road trip for a quick getaway. While this weekend is the unofficial start to summer it is also a busy weekend for local law enforcement. 33rd Street Bail Bonds wants to make you aware of the types of crimes and arrests that occur over the holiday weekend.
Common crimes that occur over this holiday include:
1. Driving under the influence (DUI) or Boating under the influence (BUI)
Unfortunately, people have a tendency to drink too much and think that they can drive or handle a boat. There will be extra police patrols and potentially sobriety checkpoints. Just don’t drink and drive or boat!
2. Reckless driving, super speeders, road rage and other traffic violations:
Being out on the road and heading to a getaway is exciting. However, the reality is that you could be stuck in heavy traffic and be delayed. Don’t let your anger get the best of you or you could be arrested for road rage.
Another common crime is that of reckless driving/speeding. The new super speeder law means that if you are driving 50 mph over the speed limit or 100 mph then you will end up arrested and facing penalties such as up to a year in jail, fines, losing your license for a year, and possible having your vehicle impounded.
Driving with a suspended license or without a license will also result in charges.
3. Drug possession. An increase in drug related arrests rises during Memorial Day weekend. Common charges include: possession of controlled substances, possession of drug paraphernalia, and intent to distribute.
4. Public intoxication and disorderly conduct. Those celebrating may get out of hand and result in disruptive or aggressive behavior. Charges could include assault and battery.
5. Domestic violence. Being together with the family and/or extended family for a long weekend could grate on the nerves. Especially if you tie in going to a theme park. Long waits, hot temperatures, and tempers could cause a situation to escalate into a domestic violence situation. Keep your temper in check by taking a break. Remove yourself from the area, take deep breaths and try to remain calm.
6. Theft and property crimes. Crowded beaches and attractions open up opportunities for thieves to steal your belongings. Pick pocketing, car break ins, and home thefts all rise during the holiday.

]]>Here are the most common crimes that occur over the holidays:
Driving under the influence (DUI):
People are enjoying holiday parties this time of year and usually the alcohol is flowing as well. While it is fine to imbibe, make sure that you don’t drink and drive. Appoint a designated driver, order a taxi, or use a rideshare to get home. The police will be out patrolling and there is a possibility of sobriety checkpoints. If you are arrested and charged with DUI, you could face fines, jail time, and having your license suspended.
Theft and Shoplifting:
Don’t help yourself to “free gifts” when shopping at a store. Retail stores have increased security during the holidays and will prosecute shoplifters. Cameras are everywhere! Purse and wallet theft is still a thing and you will get charged if you are caught. No gift is worth having a permanent record so leave the pick pocketing to someone else.
Domestic Violence:
Family time is great until it isn’t. Being together 24/7, financial stress, different opinions, and an uptick in alcohol use could all cause trouble to boil over into physical aggression. A domestic violence charge is serious and can lead to a restraining order, jail time, and long-term consequences. Step away, take a break, and think before reacting or your holiday could be spent in jail.
Burglary:
Empty homes and porches with packages make prime targets. Make sure to secure your home before traveling. Lock up, put your lights on timers and have a trusted friend retrieve your packages. Better yet, have your packages sent to a friend’s house, to a “locker”, or to your final destination. Don’t come home to an empty Christmas tree.
Drug Offenses:
Holiday parties sometimes involve recreational drugs. Instead of BYOB it can be a BYOD (bring your own drug). You might be encouraged to let loose and celebrate but don’t do it. Drug possession or even worse drug trafficking can carry severe penalties. For example, drug possession penalties can range from 1 year to up to 30 years in jail, fines from $1,000 to $10,000, a permanent criminal record for a felony, and could lead to loss of civil rights.
For drug trafficking, the penalties are more severe. Generally, this is a first-degree felony and carries a mandatory minimum prison term. The penalties increase with the amount of the controlled substance.

]]>Unbeknownst to you, the police are monitoring the road that you are now speeding on. You get pulled over and are shocked to find out that your excessive speed has landed you with a trip to jail.
Effective July 1, 2025, the “Super Speeder” law (House Bill 351) was enacted. This law turns excessive speeding from a civil infraction to a criminal offense. Instead of just getting a ticket and facing points on your license, your excessive speeding has now become a crime.
The law makes driving 50 mph or more over the posted speed limit or driving 100 mph or more a criminal offense. This law applies to all roads in the state of Florida. The penalties for being charged with the “super speeder” law can include:
- Having to appear in court
- Increased fines
- Potential jail time
For a first conviction, you could face up to 30 days in jail, a $500 fine or both. A second conviction can mean up to 90 days in jail, a $1,000 fine or both. Your driving privileges can be revoked for at least 180 days till up to a year. A repeat offender could face five years of a revoked license. Drivers could also be arrested, have their car impounded, have their license suspended or be subject to probation.
The Orlando Weekly states, “according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) speeding was a contributing factor in 29% of all U.S. traffic fatalities with nearly 12,000 deaths in the year 2023.” This law was enacted to help prevent injuries and deaths. Its goal is to slow down drivers to help keep everyone safe.
Since this law was enacted, over 500 arrests have been made in the state of Florida. More than 70 of these speeders were booked into the Orange County Jail. Because excessive speeding is now a criminal offense, drivers have been arrested and taken to jail. This is where 33rd Street Bail Bonds can help. ]]>An Evening of Relaxing Takes a Turn for the Worst: What Does It All Mean?
Imagine that you are relaxing at home just chilling out watching a movie when you get a phone call from your spouse that changes everything. He was out with the guys and things got out of hand and now he is behind bars facing charges. He needs you to bail him out of jail. What do you do?
First, take a deep breath. While this is unexpected, we at 33rd Street Bail Bonds are here to help. While all of this is new to you and can be overwhelming, we can help you navigate the ins and outs of the bail bond process. Here’s an overview of the terminology that is used:
Pre-trial release – this is also known as PTR, where a person accused of a crime is released from custody to await trial
Bail – an amount of money set by the court that a defendant pays in order to leave jail, this is used as a guarantee that the defendant will show up in court at a later time
Bond – this is where a person pays a bail bond agency money to be released from jail. They pay a set amount and the bail bond agency fronts the rest of the amount
Bail bondsman – a licensed agent that provides the bail bond to the court in exchange for a fee
Premium – this is the fee paid by the defendant to the bail bondsman, it is usually 10% of the bail amount and is non-refundable, the state of Florida sets up the bail bond fees and they are not negotiable. If the bond is $1,000 or under, then you pay $100. If the bond is over $1,000 then you pay 10% of the bond. If there are multiple bonds then you need to pay for each bond
Indemnitor – this is just a fancy name for the person who actually signs the bond and takes the responsibility for the defendant, also called co-signer
Collateral – something of value that is held in case the defendant fails to appear. Examples can include car title, cash, jewelry
Signature bond-signature release – this is a contract that you sign without pledging additional collateral to secure the bond. Basically, you sign pledging to repay the bonding agency if the defendant fails to appear (skips out on court dates). If this happens, you will have to pay the total amount lost
Don’t worry, we will explain all of the terminology and requirements to you. After contacting us, you will need to fill out a few forms and provide information such as where your loved one is being held. Once this is completed, the staff at 33rd Street Bail Bonds will deliver the bond paperwork to the jail. The jail has to complete numerous procedures before releasing a defendant from jail. The process can take between two to five hours. Once the defendant is released from jail, then they will need to stop by the office to complete paperwork and discuss the court date. This only takes a few minutes of time. We will keep the defendant up to date on court date information.

Imagine this scenario, you are relaxing at a local coffee shop when you receive a phone call that your child has been arrested, what do you do? Your emotions will be running the gamut from anger, disbelief, and worry; however, your actions are what will make a difference. As a parent, you need to remain calm and focused.
First, find out the information on where your child is being held. Then, find out the charges and circumstances of the arrest as well as any contact information that you might need. ]]>Graduation is a major milestone in the life of a high school senior. They have worked hard throughout the years in order to obtain their diploma and now it’s time to celebrate their achievements with a party! While parents want to celebrate their child’s achievement, they also face concerns. They face the dilemma of whether to serve alcohol at a party they host or whether to send their child to a party where alcohol is being served. While you might have the mindset of my kid is going to drink anyways so I might as well let them drink at home where I can supervise them or you want to be the cool parent that lets your child and their friends drink, think again! This way of thinking could wind up with you being tossed in jail.
In Florida, there is zero-tolerance for underage drinking. Section 562.111 in the Florida Statutes, states “it is unlawful for any person under the age of 21 years to have in his or her possession an alcoholic beverage.” Those who are underage and are charged could face a second-degree misdemeanor charge. This could result in up to 60 days in jail, a fine of $500, and they could have their driver’s license suspended. A conviction could also have other ramifications such as impacting their school enrollment, financial aid, and future job prospects.
It is also illegal for adults to serve alcohol to minors, including their own children, even at their own home. Providing alcohol to a minor could lead to up to 60 days in jail along with the adult being held liable for any damages, injuries, or deaths caused by the intoxicated minor. Alcohol and a graduation party are a recipe for disaster. As a parent, it is your job to make sure that your child is safe and following the law whether at home or at a graduation party. The ramifications of underage drinking can haunt your child for years. Unfortunately, drinking could lead to DUI, to injury or death, to a sexual assault, date rape, assault, or battery.
Help make your child make good decisions by:
• Talking to them about the dangers of alcohol and what the results could be if it is consumed
• How to handle the pressure of being offered alcohol
• Let your child know that they can call you and you will pick them up with no questions asked/no ramifications
• Set up an Uber or Lyft account for your child so they can use a rideshare service to get home. Make sure that they have money to pay for the service

]]>Want to Avoid Jail Over Spring Break?
Spring Break is here! Local college students from UCF, Rollins, and Stetson as well as high school students from across Central Florida are ready to head to the beach and theme parks! While everyone is ready for fun in the sun, unfortunately, sometimes things go wrong and students end up behind bars facing charges.
We know that spring breakers just want to let loose and have fun with their friends. However, bad choices can be made which could result in a person being arrested and put behind bars.
A few of the most common charges that students are arrested for include:
•Underage drinking
•DUI (driving under the influence)
•Drug possession
•Disorderly conduct
•Assault and battery
Underage Drinking –
In Florida, the legal drinking age is 21. Anyone under 21 who consumes alcohol can be arrested and charged. Even possessing alcohol, such as holding a drink, and not drinking it could end up with a person being charged. These charges could include a second-degree misdemeanor which could result in being jailed up to 60 days and fines up to $500. Additional charges could be added if the student used a fake ID to purchase the alcohol.
DUI –
A charge of driving under the influence is serious. If your blood-alcohol level (BAC) is .08% or greater than you can be charged with a DUI. Florida has strict laws regarding DUI. A person facing charges for the first time could have fines that range from $500 to $1000, face jail time up to six months, potentially have probation, may need to attend mandatory DUI school, and have their driver’s license suspended. These charges could also have a negative effect on a person’s potential job opportunities. Florida has a zero tolerance for those under the age of 21 which means that even having just one drink could result in a DUI charge.
Drug Possession –
A spring breaker who decides to use illegal drugs or traffic drugs here in Central Florida can face severe consequences. In Florida, the penalties for drug possession relate to the type of drug and the amount of drug. Marijuana possession could result in misdemeanor charges while having Fentanyl or Ecstasy can result in felony charges. Both of these charges could result in fines and jail time. Drug trafficking also tops the list for arrests. Depending on the type of drug being trafficked, if you are caught you could spend time behind bars and also face a severe monetary fine, upwards in the thousands of dollars range.
Disorderly Conduct –
This charge occurs when a person disturbs the peace and quiet of other people. Excessive noise falls under this charge. Also, if a person doesn’t comply with law enforcement or personnel at a venue such as at a bar, then they could be charged with disorderly conduct. Usually, disorderly conduct is a second-degree misdemeanor which could result in up to 60 days in jail and of fines up to $500.
Assault and Battery –
