For those unfamiliar with DTJ, here’s a little history about our venue—
The initials DTJ stand for “Delnicke Telocvicne Jednoty” or “Workers’ Gymnastic Union”. DTJ as an organization is a part of the great Labor Movement as the translation implies. It is an international organization, whose program consists of training the youth of the world to enable it to take part in the great movement for a better and more just organization of human society. The DTJ organization was formed by a group of tailors in Prague, 1897. The first DTJ group to be formed in America was founded in Cleveland, Ohio by members of the Lassalle Senior Club in 1909.
The event will begin at 11:00AM with an informal (non-judged) car show open to all makes and models. Bring your favorite car to display, and your car might win a people’s choice award! We’ll have music to enjoy too.
The traditional clambake (served from 1-3pm) includes: Broth, Chowder, Clams, ½ Chicken, Coleslaw, Sweet Potato, Sweet Corn, Coffee, Cash Bar (Beer, Soft Drinks and Treats only, no Liquor sold). Clam lovers can order an additional dozen clams too!

Gemutlichkeit 2015 Preliminary Event Schedule
At the recent MBCA National Board Meeting, our Western Reserve Section was selected by the board to host Gemütlichkeit 2015 presented by The Mercedes-Benz Cleveland and Pittsburgh Area Dealers on August 19-22, 2015. Gemütlichkeit, which is the oldest MBCA national event, was last held in 2011. To the MBCA veterans, the 2015 version will be a bit different as we are working with the national board to refresh and to improve our national events in preparation for Starfest 2016. So what is Gemütlichkeit? One definition is a space or situation that is warm and cozy, that induces a cheerful mood and peace of mind, without a need to hurry or worry, and with a connotation of belonging and social acceptance. For many long-time attendees, it is the opportunity to make and renew friendships with Mercedes-Benz enthusiasts from across the country while having fun with our favorite cars. Fun, fellowship, and food—what could be better?

Gemütlichkeit 2015 is a Mercedes-Benz enthusiast experience that will take place at Pittsburgh International Race Complex (formerly known to many as BeaveRun) in Wampum, PA. The new owners at PittRace have made major improvements to the track and to their facility which will make it an outstanding venue for our Mercedes-Benz Driving Experience. We will begin on Thursday with our renowned MBCA Defensive Driving Course—a must for any conscientious driver—even if you don’t plan to drive in the track events, we suggest that you participate. It is a non-threatening class taught by our own experienced instructors who have taught it all over the US and Canada. The course allows you to maneuver in a controlled environment to help you to learn both your capabilities and the capabilities of your car so you are better prepared to handle emergency situations on the highway. It’s a definite confidence booster on the highway—and may even get you a discount on your auto insurance.
The autocross will give you a chance to display the car control skills that you learned in defensive driving. You’ll drive through a course laid out on the PittRace Vehicle Dynamics Area—the goal being to get through the course as quickly as possible without hitting cones. And of course, experienced instructors will be there to guide you as needed. You will get multiple timed runs through the course—and you may even go home with some hardware for your trophy case!

Thursday will also give us our first taste of “the big track”. The original North Course that many of you are familiar with has been combined with the newly-constructed South Course to create an exciting 3-mile driving experience second to none. Instructors will talk you through every part of the track emphasizing every turn and every braking point to help you learn the best line around the track. We will continue on the big track on Friday. With plenty of time on the track, you will have the chance to enhance your driving skills and have fun without the pressure of competition. We’re hoping this removes some of the apprehension and encourages many more to participate.

On Saturday, you will want to make your cars all clean and shiny and participate in the Concours d’Elegance. This is a judged car show—although we have a non judged display class for those who want to show off their cars without preparing them for judging. It’s also a time for M-B enthusiasts to enjoy the wide array of beautiful automobiles. At the Saturday evening final banquet, trophies for the concours d’elegance and for the autocross will be awarded.
From the welcome reception on the 19th through the final banquet on the 22nd, there will be plenty of activities for those not interested in driving events, so there is something for everyone to enjoy.
The host hotel for this event is the Pittsburgh Marriott North in Cranberry Township, PA., about a 20-minute drive from PittRace.
Please mark your calendar and join us for this exciting event. If you have never been on a track or have never shown your car before and thought you would like to give it a try, well, this is the event for you.
We look forward to seeing you at Gemütlichkeit 2015!

Mark your calendars for an event that everyone will enjoy. The MBCA Western Reserve Section is the featured club for a cruise-in at one of Ohio’s best destinations – the Gervasi Vineyard located near Belden Village in Canton (1700 55th Street NE, Canton, OH 44721). This cruise-in/show will feature our cars in the pavilion and in the area around the pavilion. This is a cruise-in that Gervasi Vineyard is sponsoring every Wednesday evening from 5-8 PM with a featured car club. We are happy to be the featured club for Wednesday, July 22, 2015.
There will be free admission, door prizes and 50/50 drawing with proceeds benefiting Friends of Akron Children’s Hospital, prize to the fan favorite, and live music. The first 100 cruisers also will receive a discount on the purchases made at Gervasi Vineyard. If you have not been to Gervasi Vineyard to taste their wine or dine in one of their 3 areas, this is your chance. We would like to get as many of our Mercedes-Benz members’ cars highlighted as possible. There will be other custom and muscle cars on display, but not in the pavilion or featured area.
RSVPs are necessary to secure our group parking area and reserved space is somewhat limited, so contact MBCA member Richard Self (selfrich@sssnet.com or 1-330-837-0502) with the year and model of your Mercedes-Benz(s) that you will be displaying. The cruise-in starts at 5 PM, but we can start placing cars around 4:30. Check out Gervasi Vineyards on the web here; more information on the cruise-in is available here
If you are driving a long distance (or drink too much of their wine) and would like to stay overnight, you can also check into one of their beautiful villas. Please help make this a success and we are sure you will be very impressed with the cruise-in and the grounds of Gervasi Vineyard. Other clubs will have different nights, let’s make July 22 outstanding!

]]>Fun Car Show
At your choice, you can either display your car for others to enjoy and appreciate, or enter it to be judged. The judging parameters are much more relaxed than a typical MBCA Concours event, so enter your car even if you think it is not a show car—you might win an award! Judged cars are eligible for very special recognition—the Coppus Motors Sponsor’s Choice Trophy.
Defensive Driving
The MBCA defensive driving course is designed to help you to become a safer, more confident highway driver. The morning begins with a 9:00am classroom session that will teach proper driving techniques as well as vehicle dynamics and Mercedes-Benz safety systems. Then jump in your car with one of our qualified instructors to drive through various courses of cones designed to teach you accident avoidance and car control. All the exercises are done in a controlled environment at low speed in a wide-open parking lot. At the end of the day, you’ll be awarded a certificate of completion. Any safe car is welcome—it doesn’t have to be a Mercedes-Benz
Autocross
In the afternoon you’ll put your newly honed skills to the test in our autocross. The objective of the autocross is to navigate a course of pylon cones (with a performance driving instructor, if you wish) as quickly as you are comfortable without hitting any cones. There will be awards for the fastest times. This is fun for everyone, with age or gender no barrier.
Join us for our awards dinner after the event at a local restaurant. Pay your own tab.
What do I have to bring? Helmet, if you have one (Club has loaners); Lawn Chairs, Soft Drinks.
Young drivers are particularly welcome. To encourage teens to come, there’s no charge for family members ( licensed drivers between the ages of 16 and 20) when accompanied by a participating member.
What does it cost? $25 per member or guest – includes lunch. Ages 16-20 free.
