Help us to protect the National Landscape you love.

The naturally dry heathland and the precious ancient woodland on the Chase is extremely vulnerable to fire. There have been a number of fires around the Chase this summer, the most recent one being near Chase Road on August 5th which destroyed an area the size of 21 football pitches of heathland habitats, killing lots of wildlife in its wake. It is not yet known what caused this latest fire but it will take many years for the area to recover.

Wildfires in the countryside cause huge devastation to wildlife.

With temperatures expected to reach 34C this week, the wildfire risk continues to be exceptionally high for Staffordshire’s countryside. We are urging all our visitors to not have campfires, BBQs, naked flames or cigarettes and please do take home all your litter. The ground is tinder dry and even a small ember can cause an out of control wildfire.

BBQs and fires of any sort are not permitted anywhere on the Chase including the woods, heathland, visitor centres and car parks.

If you see anyone with a lit fire or BBQ then please call 999 immediately and ask for the fire service.

Please continue to avoid the fire site in Sherbook Valley and respect the Chase Road closures that are in place for everyone’s safety, while the wildfire risk remains high.

We all want to say a huge thank you to the fire service for all their efforts over the last couple of weeks and to thank the countryside team and partners who have all worked flat out to support firefighters with containing the blaze and damping down areas.
