The Response Team is a community-based care collective at Audre Lorde Project. Our work is rooted in mutual aid, peer-to-peer support, and abolitionist values.

ALP’s response team supports QTBIPOC community members with grounded, non-carceral care through listening, resourcing, and collective response. Our work involves building relationships and dreaming up community-based alternatives to police, hospitals, and other institutions that often fail or harm us. Our communities are navigating layered harm shaped by capitalism, racism, transphobia, ableism, and state violence. We see this work as an important part of sustaining the broader struggle for liberation.

This is a space for people who believe that care work is political, that survival is collective, and that we have a shared responsibility to show up for one another outside of punitive and carceral systems.

We’re seeking folks who feel called to this work and who have the capacity to engage in approximately 5–10 hours of peer-to-peer support each month. You don’t need professional credentials to apply. Lived experience, self-awareness, humility, and a willingness to grow are deeply valued.

Once we receive your application, our 3rd Space Coordinator will reach out with next steps and information about upcoming response team orientations. Join us in celebrating Audre Lorde’s 90th Birthday with a gathering centering pleasure for queer and trans people of color! We pay homage to , kink education with and , delicious eats from The Soul Spot and much more! We will also be hosting a raffle to raise funds for ALP's Living Against Violence Fund -- because there can be no pleasure without safety for all in our community. Come dressed in whatever makes you feel most pleasurable (except for birthday suits - no nudity please!)

Please note: this is a free community event for and by 18+ queer and trans people of color ONLY. If you do not belong to this community, please donate to QTPOC organizing here or email anqa@alp.org to support in other ways.

Proof of negative COVID-19 test and masks are required for this event. Remember: we keep us safe! Both tests and masks will be available onsite as well. Brooklyn Community Pride Center is an accessible venue with a ramp at the side of the building and an elevator to reach the lower level. Please note that building security will be checking bags and IDs to reach the Center.

Join us to celebrate Audre Lorde's 89th birthday in a way she loved most: a party with and for queer and trans community of color!

SOS & MELC Presents: Audre Lorde's 89th Birthday Celebration!

Join us in celebrating Audre Lorde’s 89th birthday with one of her favorite things: a celebration of LGBTSTGNC communities of color! We will be coming together in-person with an abundance of food, music, care and you! Come for speed friending, where you will have the chance to think of all things safety and liberation – and maybe find a revolutionary bae in the process. We will be offering healing practices, including reiki, tarot, and an altar for Audre that we encourage folks to bring offerings for. And there will be art- an art walk to be exact; as well as interactive prompts, community photobooth and archive pictures of Audre. We can't wait for you to join us for a night of joy and memory.

Do you believe that transgender & gender non-conforming (TGNC) people of color in NYC deserve access to safe, equitable housing? Are you invested in building power with our community members to realize a vision of housing justice for ALL? Join us for a canvassing training where you will learn the ins and outs of phonebanking and canvassing for Brick by Brick, our TGNC housing justice campaign. You will also have the opportunity to sign up for flexible phonebanking shifts over the course of the campaign drive. This training is open to all who are committed to TGNC liberation!
