Excellent .interview with Dr. Skip Mason. Great information.. Bishop Johnson was our Founders Day Speaker when I was a student at Paine College in 1967
Great scholar. I have the opportunity to attend Paine College with his son Dewitt Johnson. We as Paine students always admired Dr. Johnson for his academic achievements , the contributions he made to our CME Zion and the Legacy he left. Congratulations to his granddaughter for an outstanding job. I know he and her father are looking down and very proud of her.

Absolutely amazing!!! My great grandmother Frances was their sister. Does anyone have photos of all the children, great great grandmother Martha and great great grandfather Bowman’s mother Eliza? Thanks~

Bishop Johnson was the 1st Bishop I remember in the CME Church. I am a resident of Holly Springs. I knew him from Mississippi Industrial College (MIC). As. Teen in Leadership Training School he warned young ladies about males with something like a 15 gallon wide hat and a $.10 brain!!! I am now 56. So he lives on.

In my life in general and my life as a CME minister, I am part of the legacy of the Rev. James Taliaferro Johnson, Sr., my childhood pastor at Lewis Temple CME Church in Grambling, and Bishop Joseph A. Johnson, Jr., my childhood bishop. They played significant roles in making me who I am.

It is amazing that such great men of God are all in one family. It is a testament how great a family can be with a strong Christian foundation. I am honored to be the pastor of Dyer Chapel CME Church where these great men were members of. Thank you Mrs. Cynthia Johnson-Oliver for this. I would love to hear from you to get more history of these great men and maybe look to bring you back to Dyer Chapel to speak to us at some point.

Rev. Cynthia Johnson Oliver, thank you for sharing this remembrance of your beloved grandfather. He is my first remembered bishop and one whose scholarship and seriousness about the ministry I admire to this day. I recall the Sunday service that closed Annual Conference each year and his charge to the ministers he ordained. He urged them to not stain his seal (on their certificate of ordination) with their lives. I still hold those words in my heart as one who answered the call a number of years later.
