Expanding the Order

The Star Wars prequels’ Jedi Order is about to get another expansion, thanks to Hot Toys. Retailer Sideshow has just revealed that another fan favorite Jedi Master will be making the leap from screen to shelf, with Saesee Tiin.

While Hot Toys’ upcoming Tiin doesn’t seem to include all that many accessories (he’s a Jedi after all), he will come packed with arm guards to reflect his appearance on the Star Wars animated series, The Clone Wars. So whether you prefer his look from the cartoon or The Revenge of the Sith feature film, you should be able to get something going on your shelf.

Inspired by his appearance in Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith, the Saesee Tiin 1/6 Scale Collectible Figure by Hot Toys features a brand new headsculpt with detailed skin texture and screen-accurate facial patterns, which expertly captures Tiin’s distinctive appearance. The figure utilizes Hot Toys’ innovative rolling eyeball design, enabling fans to create nuanced expressions.

Master Tiin’s meticulously tailored outfit includes a hooded Jedi robe with embedded wire for enhanced posing, a dark brown robe with embedded wire and a belt, plus an undershirt, pants, and a utility belt with pouch. He comes with a variety of hands, allowing for a range of dynamic display options, and is equipped with a green LED light-up Lightsaber plus a blade-in-motion effect.

The laid-back Jedi

Hailing from the waning days of the Republic, Kit Fisto made an impact with fans in Star Wars’ prequel era. It’s kind of easy to see why, as the Nautolan has got one of the more striking looks out of all those who sat on the Council.

Now the Jedi is set to join Hot Toys’ lineup, with a 12″ collector figure that reflects his appearance in Revenge of the Sith. Not only does he come complete with his robes and an LED lightsaber, but fans will also find a callback to the Star Wars: The Clone Wars animated series, with optional Clone-style forearm armor.

Epic

If you thought October was big, well this month is pretty much just as meaty. November 2019 is packed with game launches like Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, Pokémon Sword & Pokémon Shield, Shenmue 3, Need for Speed Heat, Death Stranding, and more.

Even with losses like Doom Eternal, which is now launching in 2020, November is still quite a show to behold. Some of the games mentioned are out already since this report is late, but we’ve got them in the rundown below anyway.

Rising franchise

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order looks good. Like, it looks really good. That’s great to see if you’re a Star Wars fan, and also great for EA, who had been getting all kinds of flak for how the property had been handled.

Neither Battlefront game had been all that well received after all. Even the campaign that was built-into the BF sequel didn’t do much for most it seemed, with fans complaining that there wasn’t enough to it.

Fallen Order though, looks like the exact opposite of all of that. From Titanfall developer Respawn, this new game is a single player title with a seemingly solid story. It plays off of the prequel era while being moored in the original trilogy’s time period. There isn’t a lot to dislike about that.

Plus taking on stormtroopers with a lightsaber, deflecting blaster shots, and using force powers really doesn’t get old. Check it out in action below.

Fallen order, risen art

The latest entry in the Star Wars video game library brings players back to the time between the prequels and the classic trilogy. It’s a time that’s been explored before to be sure, but it’s also quite possibly the best possible place for new media.

I don’t think there’s any arguing that the Original Trilogy still contains the most iconic pieces of what the franchise has to offer. And coming directly from the time of the prequel films, it’s the perfect place for new stories. And, for that matter, new art.

Enter Dark Horse Books and their continuing line of art books based on video games. Though this one is kind of a twofer, since you get gaming and classic Star Wars all rolled into one.

With detailed concept art of all-new characters, exciting weapons and equipment, and locales both familiar and new, The Art of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order: Limited Edition offers a behind-the-scenes look at the production of a hit game—all accompanied by intimate artists’ commentary that reveals how this incredible universe is brought together. This limited edition also features a cover and slipcase inspired by ancient Jedi tomes, as well as an exclusive gallery-quality lithograph!

Both versions of the book will be available day and date on November 20th. That’s just a few days after the game itself hits shelves on the 15th.

After the fall

Does Fallen Order take the place of The Force Unleashed in the new Disney-era canon? Not that it’s the same story, because it definitely isn’t, but it is similar to that duology.

In Fallen Order you play as Cal Kestis, a young former-padawan. After the enacting of Order 66 and subsequent elimination of the Jedi Order by the newly crowned Emperor, Cal finds himself aimless. More than that, he’s forced to forsake all of his training in order to blend in with the rest of the now-Imperial citizenry and survive.

As you’ll see in the trailer below, that’s easier said than done.

A fresh start?

There’s a lot there to get excited about. Publisher EA seems to be aiming this one to fulfill some fan wishes too. Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order is a single-player game only, and comes out of Respawn Entertainment. That’s a top notch pedigree by the way, since Respawn last made the excellent Titanfall 2.

While Jedi Fallen Order is a campaign only affair though, it doesn’t sound limited by any means. EA promises a sweeping story that sees Cal set out on a mission to restore the Jedi Order. That’s a quest that’ll put him up against Purge Troopers, Inquisitors, and maybe even the Dark Lord himself.

Jedi Fallen Order also seems like it’ll be an open-galaxy game. EA adds that you’ll be able to “Explore ancient forests, windswept cliffs, and haunted jungles as you decide when and where you want to go next.”

Aiding Cal on his way will be the Star Wars universe’s staple Jedi powers too. You’ll be able to wield a lightsaber, and also “combat forms to refine striking, blocking, and dodging your enemies”. So it seems Cal will be able to hone his abilities as you play.

All in all, this sounds awesome. And being from Respawn I’m more than a little willing to give it the benefit of the doubt. November can’t come soon enough.

An ending, or a beginning?

So as you might expect, that early look at this year’s The Last Jedi is more than a little cryptic. The end of the Jedi order? Rey in training with Luke Skywalker? And is Finn using the Force or dead?! While we won’t know the answers to the questions for a while yet, we can certainly guess.

I’m betting that the stuff with Luke is out of sequence here, and that it takes more than a little convincing to get him to return. Rey is definitely the chosen heir though, but that was obvious. I do have to wonder about Finn though, and whether or not he’ll turn out to be a Force-wielder as well. Could Luke (or maybe even Rey) assemble a new order to battle against the First Order? Could be.

Actually, that’d be pretty awesome, and maybe even a return of sorts to the big Jedi fights in the prequels. Hey come on, I know they weren’t the most popular of movies, but those battle sequences were pretty much all solid.

Expect Star Wars: The Last Jedi to hit theaters on December 15th.

The Dark Side of Star Wars’ force is seductive, so seductive that it can split families in two, rend established orders into pieces, and forge a line of villains so powerful that they can change the destiny of the galaxy many times over. Kylo Ren is the villain in the recently released first film of the new Star Wars trilogy, and while he’s not a full-blown Sith (yet), he’s definitely checked off a bunch of the boxes on the list of what makes them so darned evil.

Reflecting that nastiness, is Kotobukiya’s newest piece. This new ArtFX+ statue is sculpted to reflect the baddie that is Ren in all his dark-cloaked glory. As is the norm with Koto too, you’ll find some extra parts in the box with this snap-together statue, which means that you can actually set him up in a total of 8 different poses.

He looks freaking awesome in all of them too, and could make a pretty nifty centerpiece of your Force Awakens shelf. Just try not to get all emo if you do pick him up.

Standing in at 1/10th scale and with magnets built-into his feet (for the metal display base), Kylo Ren will ship out this July and run you $69.99 USD.

That might be a tall order, what with the level of expectations that Star Wars fans have for the next long awaited edition of the Battlefront series. With their newest title though, veteran FPS developer DICE looks like they have pretty much all the bases covered.

It seems from the pr text that the action in Battlefront will be planet-based, meaning that there won’t be any space battles to speak of- though I suppose there could be some in orbit stuff. Still though, even without the promise of epic fleet to fleet combat, there’s a ton and a half to like here.

Although multiplayer-focused (obviously), Battlefront’s maps will also offer single-player and local co-op action. And as for player count, it looks like we’re looking at 40 for the cap. Speeder bikes, snowspeeders, TIE fighters, and even the Millennium Falcon will be playable in the game, along with the ground forces of the Empire and the Rebel Alliance (or the New Republic, if you prefer). Oh, and yes, that includes the likes of Darth Vader and Boba Fett.

As far as levels, the game will feature Endor, Hoth, Tatooine, Sullust (which has never been seen before), and Jakku. What’s Jakku? It’s the barren desert planet that you saw at the beginning of the newest trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens and the scene of a pivotal battle in the fiction. The game will feature that battle, which will figure into the setup for the film, and has the New Republic taking it to the holdout forces of the Empire in a post-Return of the Jedi fight. Apparently, the game will play things out, and explain that fallen Star Destroyer from the trailer.

Jakku won’t ship with the game, but will be free DLC for everyone on December 8th. Well, unless you pre-order that is. If you do that, you’ll get to play a full week before anyone else, and get to fight the Battle of Jakku on December 1st.

The base game though, will be available way before that, as Star Wars Battlefront is set to hit the PS4, Xbox One, and PC (via Origin) on November 17th in the US and on the 19th in Europe.
