Selective Race History at the Smithsonian Museum of African American History https://dangerousintersection.org/2026/10/22/selective-race-history-at-the-smithsonian-museum-of-african-american-history/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=selective-race-history-at-the-smithsonian-museum-of-african-american-history https://dangerousintersection.org/2026/10/22/selective-race-history-at-the-smithsonian-museum-of-african-american-history/#respond Thu, 22 Oct 2026 18:12:51 +0000 https://dangerousintersection.org/?p=44414 Eli Steele (son of Shelby Steele) recently released a documentary titled White Guilt.  The Smithsonian’s African American museum is refusing to allow Eli to show his documentary at the museum.  Keep in mind that the NMAAHC once posted this on its website:

You can click it and enlarge it, or just read the following. According to this graphic adopted by the museum, here are a few things to consider about “white people”:

  • White people are self-reliant;
  • White people are independent and they highly value autonomy;
  • White people use the Scientific Method, with objective rational linear thinking, cause-and-effect relationship and quantitative emphasis;
  • White people delay gratification and follow rigid time schedules.
  • White people believe the ideal social unit is the nuclear family of father, mother and 2.3 children;
  • The children of white people have their own rooms and they are independent;
  • White people believe hard work is the key to their success and they believe “work before play”;
  • White people plan for the future by delaying gratification and they follow rigid time schedules.

As you can see, this is merit and hard work turned into allegedly bad things.

Fast forward to the present, the museum is refusing to present a brand new documentary that clearly considers an important viewpoint about race relations in America. It just happens to be the wrong perspective, so the museum is not interested in allowing others to see this documentary. Here are the words of Eli Steele about the conflict with the museum:

Fewer Friendships for Americans https://dangerousintersection.org/2026/10/22/fewer-friendships-for-americans/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=fewer-friendships-for-americans https://dangerousintersection.org/2026/10/22/fewer-friendships-for-americans/#respond Thu, 22 Oct 2026 17:08:03 +0000 https://dangerousintersection.org/?p=44410 Stunning graphic here showing that Americans are increasingly lonely.

I spotted this in an article titled “Loneliness Has a ZIP CodeA new index examines how neighborhoods, shared spaces, and civic institutions can make social connection easier.”

The central concern of the authors is that the way we design our communities can encourage or restrict the number of relationships we have with others. “Isolation often feels personal, but its roots are structural.” They suggest these five strategies for improving the ability of people to form friendships within their community.

  • Protect and create third places. Support local cafés, barbershops, parks, libraries, and community centers. Advocate for zoning that allows neighborhood retail and mixed-use corridors. Push back against policies that quietly eliminate gathering spaces.
  • Organize at the block and corridor level. Block associations, tenant groups, faith communities, and school-based networks build repeated interaction. Small-scale organizing often has outsized relational effects.
  • Engage in local planning processes. Zoning hearings, transportation plans, and redevelopment proposals shape whether neighborhoods become more walkable and socially integrated—or more fragmented.
  • Strengthen neighborhood institutions. Volunteer, donate, serve on boards, or help stabilize struggling civic organizations. Social capital compounds when institutions endure.
  • Build cross-neighborhood bridges. Connection is not only about bonding within a block; it is also about linking across income and geography. Cities become resilient when networks are not siloed.
