The post How to Use Video Marketing in 2023 appeared first on Emerge2 Blog.
]]>The three main online spaces where you can start reaching your customers using video are:
Here are some types of videos you can create for each online space as well as some tips for creating your videos.
Utilize your online storefront – your website. 83% of video marketers say video has helped increase the average time their visitors spend on a page. (Wyzowl)
Highlight videos on your homepage.
First impressions are everything! Use this video to set the tone, introduce your business, and give visitors information upfront in a visual way.
Add videos on a landing page or department page.
If you’re using paid advertising, users are most likely bypassing your homepage and heading straight to a landing page. Ensure that your landing pages are populated with compelling content, including video.
Create product videos
Make short videos about your product’s key features, uses, benefits, etc. Remember to include ways your customers can buy it.
Showcase your business inside and out
Find a way to share your story in a simple way. Create a branding video to highlight your business culture and employees, and talk about your values. Add these videos to your About Us, Contact page or homepage. Customers value authenticity, so show the real face of your company.
Use your social media accounts to get your videos out there. You’ll see an increase in engagement and your business will gain brand loyalty points, ultimately retaining customers and growing sales.
Product launch video series
Build up to a product launch by creating a series of videos. Share various teaser videos, offering minimal details until the last video when you share the date when the product will be available. This will create buzz around your product release.
A teaching video
Share a 2-minute course on something you’re an expert on. Teach viewers the basics and then customers will reach out to you for more help and more products.
Tutorials
Highlight products and show people how to use those products. Tutorials help customers get to know your products if they haven’t used them before and encourage them to buy. Remember to name-drop your company throughout.
Store & yard tour
Create a virtual tour of your business. Introduce employees to create personal connections. This type of video instills transparency and shows that your business is being upfront.
Do a live Q&A
Prove that you can speak about your products and services. During a live video, answer customer questions about your business and figure out a way to share how your products are improving the lives of your customers. After the live video, the recording gives you content you can now share.
Interview a customer
Creates a sense of trust by showing real people using your products and their success. Ask them to share why they love supporting your business. This content can be also used as a testimonial on your website.
If you have a website and/or a product catalog, online advertising is a no-brainer. Your ads will have the ability to reach potential customers, increasing visitors to your website and store and, ultimately, sales. Compared to traditional advertising, online advertising is much more economically efficient and gives the advertiser the massive benefit of the ability to micro-target their ideal audience.
YouTube & Google
Hosted on YouTube, your ads will be displayed across websites and apps. Create short ads
that play before or after other video content, helping to reach customers and drive traffic to your website.
Instagram & Facebook
Instagram & Facebook have a multitude of online avenues where your video advertising will show up like Facebook and Instagram feeds, Facebook Marketplace, Facebook Video feeds, Instagram Shop, Stories, Reels, Facebook search results and more.
Video marketing has a number of benefits and is an invaluable tool for businesses. Start using video in your online brand strategy and you could see increased website traffic, more online sales, and customer engagement.

]]>The post Does Email Marketing Still Matter? appeared first on Emerge2 Blog.
]]>The first email marketing campaign in 1978 was sent by Gary Thuerk, a Marketing Manager at Digital Equipment Corp, to 400 users via Arpanet, promoting DEC machines. This little email campaign resulted in $13 million in sales. From the start, the return on investment has been incomparable to traditional marketing, launching email marketing as an effective channel for direct marketing.
Today, marketers can expect an average ROI of $42 for every $1 spent. This creates a 4200% ROI, making it one of the top-performing marketing options available.
In the summer of 1996, during the wake of the growing popularity of email, the first free email service was born (Hotmail). Consequently, 20 million users signed up for a unique email address. Hotmail, AOL and others created a direct line from businesses to customers, paving the path of success for email marketing. Just last year in 2020, around 306 billion emails globally were sent and received every day. Although this number shows there’s still a huge demographic for marketers to reach, it doesn’t totally prove email marketing still matters.
It’s not a new fact that email marketing systems allow marketers to target a very specific audience. But how does this help in 2021? With today’s extensive data collection tools, marketers can target demographics with finely tuned precision, and businesses that use segmented campaigns have reported as much as a 760% increase in revenue.
Interactivity. When new email coding became available, marketers jumped on the opportunity to incorporate interactive elements into their messages. This new way of communicating was soaked up by users and marketers haven’t stopped developing new ways to engage. Today, augmented and virtual reality can give customers a fun and rewarding experience each time they open their email. This creates a strong relationship with subscribers and their favourite businesses.
Geolocation. Geographic segmentation isn’t new but geolocation takes target marketing a giant leap further. This new technology can estimate a subscriber’s location. Even though it can’t pinpoint an exact location, geolocation service providers can detect when someone is near a certain area, like close to a physical store. Marketers can then jump on the chance to create “buzz” and even offer a promotion enticing the customer to drop in, generating even more sales.
Hyper-personalization. Another trend in email marketing is hyper-personalization. With data collection ability, marketers learn from each user interaction. They interpret data and can alter their message and content based on user experience. This gives businesses more control and an opportunity to connect with their customers one-on-one, personalizing each experience.
So, does email marketing still matter? Without a doubt. Email marketing not only still works, but the latest technology has made it even more effective.
Through the years, many new forms of communication have become available to businesses. Despite the overwhelming number of tools now available, email marketing has remained top of its class and is continuing to grow.
Email marketing provides businesses a highly effective space to engage with subscribers, keeping customers loyal. And knowing that email marketing DOES still matter, businesses can’t ignore the potential of an awesome email marketing campaign.
Before your business dives into the undertaking of email marketing, a digital marketing plan should be in place. We can help. Speak with one of our experts. Contact us at sales@emerge2.com

]]>The post Google’s Pointy: Is it right for your store? appeared first on Emerge2 Blog.
]]>Let’s take a look at eligibility, how it works with your POS system, and what it means for your business’s online presence.
Google describes it’s Pointy service, in part, as follows:
“Pointy from Google helps you to attract local shoppers to your physical store by displaying your products directly on your Business Profile on Google. Essentially, it just lets people in your area know that you are a local convenient option for what they need and have it in stock before they leave their homes, which is especially important with Covid in mind today.”
To get started with Pointy, its website takes you through a series of eligibility questions to ensure that your store, it’s equipment, and bar codes are compatible with how the Pointy service obtains its product data from you.
Based upon the information provided in the Pointy “Get Started” eligibility widget, if you made it through all of the above eligibility requirements, then your store might be eligible for the Pointy service. The best way to know for sure is to go through the “Get Started” widget on the pointy.withgoogle.com website. After going through it, you can have a representative contact you to discuss the details.
Once Pointy is set up at your store, the barcodes for every product that you scan at your POS all day long, every day, is sent to the Pointy system. The system analyzes all of the barcodes from your store and from all of the other stores in the Pointy system, and determines which items are popular that day. It then selects some of those popular products to show on your store’s Google My Business profile for a while. It uses product names and photos from the associated manufacturers.
You have no ability to select which products show up in your Google My Business profile. This is solely up to Pointy.
Pointy claims that this approach signals that recently scanned products can be known to be in-stock so that a customer doesn’t see the product on your profile and come to the store, only to find that you are out-of-stock. However, if you are not using one of the above listed POS brands, then if the most recent scan of a given product happens to be your last of that product, Pointy would incorrectly interpret that last scan, and all scans, as meaning that you have the product in-stock. Just hope a customer doesn’t drive to your store to find that you are out of stock after they saw the item featured on your profile. Based upon publicly available Pointy information, you have no control over this.
The above information was obtained from public online information about the Pointy system, from emails from a Pointy representative, and from using the “Get Started” eligibility widget in February 2021. Your mileage may vary.
If you are interested in Pointy, then go to their official website, read about it, go through the eligibility widget yourself, and talk to a Pointy representative to determine if it’s right for your store(s).

]]>The post 5 Tech Trends Your Business Needs to Know appeared first on Emerge2 Blog.
]]>Trying to predict the future is a fool’s game at the best of times. The speed that new technologies are evolving makes any predictions that much more difficult. Still, there are patterns that indicate where we’re headed. The past few years have built off the developments of those previous years, pointing out future directions.
But prognostication isn’t just about what’s new. It’s also about recognizing what stays the same. Certain practices are timeless, becoming even more significant as the world around them changes.
From this, we’ve drawn the following list of the five biggest tech trends for 2020 that will impact you and your business.
Before getting to the new, let’s focus on something proven. Something that is growing in importance as more of our lives moves to the digital world. Something that will underpin all our digital efforts.
What we’re referring to here is legitimacy.
From fake news to deep fakes, much has been made about the spread of misinformation online. This has led people to be more media literate and more conscious of the need to be aware of their sources of information.
With that comes an increased reliance on user reviews.
Getting positive reviews for your business builds your reputation, reinforced by customer testimonials. In fact, reviews are so powerful that 78% of consumers treat reviews the same as they would a personal recommendation1. And with 86% of people reading reviews when researching local businesses1, that’s an incredible opportunity.
Why is this? Acting as third-party validation, reviews are free from bias and marketing spin. They reflect the opinions of real people and are valued as such. Also, as more purchases take place online, customers will rely solely on each other’s experiences to inform their decisions.
Artificial intelligence is here, though it’s not quite how the movies pictured it. Instead of the enslavement of mankind, our AIs are more concerned with providing great customer service.
Chatbots have become a growing presence on websites and in apps over the last few years. In that time they’ve grown – or perhaps – evolved. Gone are the stiff interactions relaying basic information. Now we’re getting sophisticated “personalities” that are constantly learning.
You can see this evolution in voice assistants, like Amazon’s Alexa, Apple’s Siri, and Google’s voice assistant.
What this coming year offers is the opportunity for businesses of all sizes to adopt this technology. Why does your company need a chatbot? Consider this: Chatbots can handle up to 80% of questions and concerns, saving businesses up to 30% in service costs2. That’s because they free you and your employees from handling the majority of your customer interactions.
Now, that may sound like it creates distance between you and your customers. That’s not the case at all. What it means is that the interactions you do have with your customers are ones that require your knowledge and experience. In the meantime, shoppers can get immediate responses to most of their questions 24/7, leaving you free to focus on more important work.
It’s the smaller businesses that are capitalizing on this. Currently, 40% of companies using chatbots have between 1-10 employees3.
As people spend more and more time online, businesses have rushed to meet them there. 96% of people in the U.S. already shop online4, and worldwide retail e-commerce sales have already hit $3.53 trillion USD5 . These numbers will continue to grow.
Being able to sell your products online will go from a should have to a must have in 2020. To survive, you simply have to offer customers a way to shop online. Whether this is a simple catalog or sophisticated webstore, it doesn’t matter as much as simply having an easy-to-navigate online store.
Having an online store means that your customers are able to shop 24/7 and even research your products before purchasing in-store.
People love videos. They love large budget spectacles and low-cost productions. As long as they’re informative, entertaining – or both – audiences can’t get enough of them.
Leveraging video for marketing purposes is a great way to increase sales while building your brand. 80% of people switch between online searches and videos when learning about a product6. When making a purchase, 50% of people say online videos helped them make their choice6.
Don’t let the idea of creating videos intimidate you. There’s been a push toward more personal, less polished content as a response to the clean professionalism of recent years. A quick, two-minute video explaining products or services can get a great response on your social media profiles. Being natural and providing information is key, not production values.
Underlying many technological predictions is the continued rollout of 5G networks. An upgrade over the current 4G/LTE broadband, it promises to transfer data up to 100 times faster than current networks7. It will also be able to provide service to areas that have previously been limited due to the need for network infrastructure.
What’s interesting is how the focus of 5G is different than 4G. 4G focuses on user experiences such as high-definition video streaming, location-based apps, and smart appliances.
The goal of 5G is to build a large network of connected devices, beyond the smart devices we currently have. While we can now buy smart appliances (known as the Internet of Things, or IoT), 5G will expand things considerably. It won’t just be lights and speakers, but also sensors built into our buildings, roads and more.
This infrastructure will underpin many of the concepts that 4G has introduced, but hasn’t been able to deliver on. Take autonomous driving, for example. It seems that we’re constantly just a few years away from a traffic network that will feature self-driving cars providing fast, safe transportation for people and goods.
5G should actually make this possible. Vehicles, traffic lights, and even sensors in the roads themselves will be in constant communication. This may be what actually allows for autonomous driving to deliver on its promise.
Smart cities, too, will be possible. Smart cities are a new approach to urban development, one that looks to accommodate the needs of the people who live there. This includes traffic lights that dynamically respond to real-time use to reduce congestion and optimize traffic flow, city equipment remotely reporting breakdowns, better allocation of city resources and services due to in-depth statistics being available.
But 5G’s not just about connecting devices. Existing user-focused services will also improve. Data-heavy applications like virtual and augmented reality will become possible. Where this can lead is anyone’s guess.
What effect this will have is pretty much impossible to predict. To put this in perspective, consider for a moment the developments that 4G has allowed in just the last ten years. Streaming services have replaced physical media. Ride-share apps like Uber and Lyft have disrupted the taxi industry. And cell phones are used more as mobile computers and entertainment devices than they are as phones.
From this new technology has sprung massive cultural shifts, forever altering the way we live our lives. What impact 5G will have won’t be known for years.
That is, of course, if the full rollout of 5G takes place. The technology depends on installing short-range bases throughout population-dense areas. These areas are then blanketed with high levels of electromagnetic fields (EMF), which some people are concerned may have an effect on our health. While evidence isn’t conclusive, it’s understandable that concerns do exist8.
It’ll be interesting to look back at this list in a year’s time and see how close to the mark it is. These predictions are based more on behaviours than technology. The means may change, but people’s motivations often don’t.
Chatbots, user reviews, videos, and e-commerce all seek to provide customers with the same things they’ve always wanted. Reassurance, information, entertainment and convenience. The delivery method might be different, but the goal will stay the same.

Digital design team helps dealers develop and deliver an online presence
WATERLOO, Ont. — Whether it’s buying better, selling smarter, managing staff productively or wrestling with financials, dealers have to be good at a lot of things to succeed. Online smarts is often not one of those things, however. That’s why outside sources for this kind of expertise are so valuable.
Take Dan and Monica Reid, of Emerge2 Digital. The Waterloo, Ont.-based pair lead a team of tech and content providers that is focused on helping home improvement retailers. “We’re providing support for dealers online so they can continue to do what they’re good at,” says Dan.
Dealers are good at creating a relationship with their customers face to face, one on one. But those customers are engaged in an online community, one that many dealers have been slow to pursue, even as the big retailers like Lowe’s and Home Depot have made these online efforts a priority.
Dan says there are ways to compete against these large retailers. “You do it by differentiating yourself.” But communicating those differences is no longer restricted to those in-store encounters. “Good service doesn’t always translate into good marketing.”
That’s where Emerge2 comes in. It offers back-office tech and marketing support to help dealers improve—or get started—on their web development. A big part of what Dan and Monica and their team do is help dealers tell their stories, working with dealer-members in various buying groups in Canada, along with a growing base of independent customers in the U.S. They are even included in the services area of Orgill’s dealer markets twice a year.
According to Dan, Emerge2 looks for ways to ensure a dealer offers value every time they send an email. That means a focus on increasing engagement with existing customers. The payoff is going to be much higher than trying to convert new customers. “The spend can be 50% to 60% more.”
He calls it a “happy marriage” of marketing and technology. “We’ve become strong advocates for these dealers to help them compete against those larger retailers.”
If you’d like to learn more about how Emerge2 can help your company reach its marketing goals, contact Dan or Monica by email to sales@emerge2.com or call toll free at 1-888-242-5453 extension 1.

]]>The post How NOT to create a Facebook Contest appeared first on Emerge2 Blog.
]]>Facebook encourages contests but has strict rules regarding what a contest on Facebook must not do.
If you violate the rules, you risk a warning or possible suspension of your Facebook Page or account.
Many people follow these rules; many do not.
One very specific no-no that Facebook stipulates in their contest rules is that you are NOT allowed to use actions related to a Facebook user’s personal account timeline or friend connections as a contest entry. For example, Facebook prohibits the following activities for contests: “Share on your Timeline to enter” or “Share on your friend’s Timeline to get additional entries” or “Tag your friends in this post to enter.”
Facebook also requires that you make a list of simple rules for your contests (see below) and exclude Facebook from any liability related to your contest.
With some simple preparation, it is easy to follow the requirements. Why risk losing your Facebook assets by ignoring the rules? Eventually, Facebook’s background algorithms will likely find the non-compliant contests.
Facebook’s Terms (that everyone agrees to when they sign-up) has a section called “Promotions,” which applies to contests being run on Facebook.
The easiest way to be compliant is to write a short list of rules for your contest and put the rules on your website. Then link to your rules page at the bottom of your Facebook posts when promoting your contest. Very simple!
Some suggested topics for your contest rules:
With a bit of preparation, it is easy to run compliant contests on Facebook!

]]>In a 2013 survey for do-it-yourself (DIY) shoppers by Compete.com in conjunction with Google, the majority of respondents were using digital as a resource when looking for information on products for a DIY project. Over 7 in 10 used the internet for information or help in starting a project. And, 25% researched a specific brand online.
Ecommerce remains a small percentage of home improvement sales – and mcommerce even more so. Yet mobile’s role in the home improvement sector is becoming apparent.
Planese.com, a recent addition to a growing list of mobile group apps for home improvement, allows collaboration between home improvement professionals and consumers. The cloud based applications provider polled US homeowners in November of 2013 about how they planned to use smartphones and PCs for future home remodels. Nearly 95% said they intended to go online via a PC to find design ideas; 65% said they would use a smartphone for some of their research. However, when researching products or services over 66% of respondents would use either device.
Having a mobile-compatible website that describes all of the product categories and services that your store provides, along with an online catalog, will facilitate the type of online research that home improvement customers now engage in before making purchases. To enhance your website and/or add an online catalog to facilitate such pre-purchase research, contact Emerge2 to discuss options.

Check your email address here: haveibeenpwned.com
If your email address is found by this tool, it will let you know which site the leak came from (e.g. Dropbox, LinkedIn, whatever), indicating that you should change your password on any such identified sites as soon as possible.
As a bonus, this site also lets you subscribe to be notified if the site ever finds your email address in a future data breach (so you know to change your password on the compromised site).
This tool is by Troy Hunt, an international speaker on web security and the author of many top-rating security courses for web developers. He says of this tool, “it’s a free resource for anyone to quickly assess if they may have been put at risk due to an online account of theirs having been compromised or ‘pwned’ in a data breach.”

]]>If you’d like to enhance your LinkedIn profile and make the most of it, but don’t know where to start, no problem. Use the following suggestions to improve it. If you don’t already have a profile, then click here for instructions on creating one.
Go to linkedin.com and login.
Go to the Profile section and click Edit Profile.
Although all of the information in your profile is technically optional, you should consider the following parts of your profile to be mandatory:
The above information is what I would consider to be the minimum content for a good LinkedIn profile. There are other useful sections that you might want to optionally populate if they apply to your situation: Education, Volunteering Experience, Causes you care about, and Interests.
Once you get to this point, you should now have a well-rounded profile that showcases your skills, experience, capabilities and other interests. (It will be even better once the Groups show up in a few days.)
Two more important steps: Connect and Endorse
Connections to others on LinkedIn adds depth and credibility to your profile and it’s easy to do.
There are two ways to add connections:
Regardless of which method you use, it will still be up to each person to confirm the connection. LinkedIn connections are always bi-directional meaning that one person requests the connection and the other person confirms or ignores it. However, only send connection requests to people that know you otherwise the system might flag you as a spammer if many people click “I don’t know this person” to a number of your connection requests.
You should request connections to the following people:
To add a person manually, search for their name using the top search box and click the Connect option beside their name.
To add people in bulk from your email account, click the “My Network” navigation option and select “Add Contacts”.
The system will send you an email whenever one of your connection requests confirms the connection. This will be a bit of a pain initially, but it has an actual benefit.
After you receive a few connection confirmations, go back to LinkedIn and look at each of these person’s LinkedIn profiles. Why?
For these reasons:
That’s it.
You should now have a great profile on LinkedIn for all of the benefits mentioned earlier.
You may edit or further augment your profile at any time by logging into LinkedIn and clicking the “Edit Profile” option under the Profile section or by clicking any of the edit icons when viewing your profile.

]]>Why?
LinkedIn is now used as the go-to place to find out about someone: their skills, their experience and more.
It is used by job recruiters when deciding who to invite for an interview (if they like your resume) so you better be on LinkedIn if you’re looking to get hired. It is also used to become familiar with a person before a meeting, or before asking them to participate on a team, or just to know more about them. Even if you are retired, you should still have a profile to inform others about your capabilities and experience. In addition, LinkedIn is a great place to network with other professionals in your industry.
And it’s fairly painless to create a profile on LinkedIn.
In fact, since you’re here, just follow the below steps to create your profile now.
Go to linkedin.com and it will prompt you for your name, email address and to create a password to join.
It will walk you through some initial steps such as select your country, enter your postal code, etc. Just answer the questions as prompted. You will be able to revise this information later if you change your mind.
For the Email question where it says “We’ll import your address book to suggest connections” you can either do this or click “Skip”.
When it asks to confirm your email address, check your email app for the message from LinkedIn that has the subject “Please confirm your email address”. Check your spam or junk folder if you cannot find it. It should arrive within a few minutes.
When prompted to select people that you might know, you can do this now or click “Skip” at the bottom. This will be covered in a few steps below.
Although all of the information is technically optional, you should consider the following parts of your profile to be mandatory:
The above information is enough to get you started. There are other useful sections that you might want to optionally populate if they apply to your situation: Education, Volunteering Experience, Causes you care about, and Interests.

Emerge2 developed a multi-channel promotional plan for them and executed the plan over its scheduled duration. The client’s stated goals were exceeded. They are ecstatic with the results.
The plan involved Facebook organic posts, Facebook Ads, Twitter organic tweets, Twitter Ads, hashtags, integrated off-line promotions, and training for the client’s staff. Since the client had an existing CASL-compliant mailing list, the plan included periodic and progressive emails to this existing audience of interested people.
The client found the resulting public engagement on social media to be very exciting.
Emerge2 developed a comprehensive, integrated schedule of communications over the three months leading up to the annual event as well as communications during the multi-day event. All communications were tailored to each platform using best practices to optimize the effectiveness of the client’s goals.
Emerge2 handled all of the details on behalf of the client.

Search Engine Optimization (SEO): How to make your website stand out when user’s search for information.
SEO has been a changing landscape over the past year or so. The last few changes to Google’s search algorithms have eliminated the old ways of ranking, and have introduced new requirements to get your website in front of more eyes.
Here’s a good infographic which compares “Old SEO” to “New SEO” to update you on what is now required to give your quality content more exposure in searches by people who are looking for what you have to offer.

]]>As of May 2015, websites that are not mobile compatible will no longer be shown on the first page of search results for mobile users. Conversely, Google has started to prioritize mobile compatible websites for all mobile searches.
There have been many studies this past year on how much of a website’s traffic is from mobile users (e.g. smartphones, tablets, etc.). All studies agree that the percentage of mobile users continues to steadily increase and will continue to do so into the future.
We analyzed traffic of a random selection of client websites that we host and found that, on average, 45% of their website traffic is from users using a mobile device.
Some have asked, “What if my audience is desktop only? Then there’s no reason to have a mobile website, right?” Google’s response is: “Not exactly. Statistics show that more people are going mobile only — either because they never had a desktop or because they won’t replace their existing desktop. Additionally, a non-mobile-friendly site may not see many mobile visitors precisely for that reason.”
So yes, this probably affects your website traffic significantly.
Google realizes that mobile users have a negative experience when they search for a website, click on it, but then aren’t able to navigate or view its content because it isn’t mobile-compatible.
Therefore, Google is pushing all non-mobile-compatible websites lower in its search results listings for mobile users, leaving the mobile compatible websites at the top of search results.
A growing segment of online users will have a difficult time searching for websites if those websites are not mobile compatible, probably finding a mobile-compatible competitor instead.
There are two ways to determine if your website is mobile compatible:
Google has already rolled out these changes to its search engine algorithms. If you don’t want to limit your search engine traffic to the shrinking desktop-only audience, then it’s important to ensure that your website is mobile compatible, and to do it soon.
