Students presented their researches and discussed issues on financial and non-financial reporting

Scientific and practical student seminar on “Financial and Non-financial Reporting of the enterprise: problems of its formation and audit” was held on the 23rd of April, 2019. The event was organized by the Department of Economic Expertise and Business Audit of the Faculty of Accounting and Auditing at TNEU.

The seminar was organized and moderated by Oksana Adamyk (Acting Head of the Department of Economic Expertise and Business Audit, PhD, Associate Professor) and Maria Shesterniak (Ph.D., senior teacher, the moderator of students’ scientific society of Department of Economic Expertise and Business Audit). Students of the department presented results of their researches on issues of preparing and auditing the financial and non-financial statements. Academics and fellowships of students’ scientific society of the Department took part in the discussion. Issues on the adaptation of Ukrainian legislation and accounting to the norms of the European Union, new low requirements, qualitative changes of manufacturing and managing process were brought up at the seminar. The discussion took place in a lively atmosphere and aroused the interest of all parties.

Interinstitutional Online Seminar “Auditing in Ukraine: challenges and prospects of reformed legislation” (Ukraine – Norway – Moldova – Audit Chamber of Ukraine)

Academics of Department of Economic Expertise and Business Auditing TNEU and their colleagues from Nord University (Bodo, Norway), Moldova State University (Chisinau, Moldova) and representatives from Audit Chamber of Ukraine discussed current issues of educating auditors. This discussion was held on 22^nd April 2019 on the occasion of Audit Day in Ukraine and as a part of a seminars series on “Audit in Ukraine: current challenges and prospects for development“.

The event that was initiated and moderated by Oksana Adamyk (the Acting Head of Department of Economic Expertise and Business Auditing) and included three discussing panels:

Panel discussion 1 with online inclusion of Nord University (Bodo, Norway) “Professional training of auditors by educational institutions: current challenges in Ukraine and the experience of Norway” (Moderator – Oksana Adamyk, Acting Head of the Department of Economic Expertise and Business Audit, PhD, Associate Professor).
Panel discussion 2 with online inclusion of the State University of Moldova (Chisinau, Moldova) “Certification of auditors in Ukraine: new requirements of the reformed legislation” (Moderator – Oksana Adamyk, Acting Head of the Department of Economic Expertise and Business Audit, PhD, Associate Professor and Iryna Shchyrba, PhD, Associate Professor, Certified Auditor).
Panel discussion 3 “Problems of the practical application of International Standards on Auditing” (moderator – Markiyan Shchyrba, Ph.D., associate professor, certified auditor, director of the audit firm “Galychyna-Auditservice”).

Olga Yermolenko, a lecturer and researcher from Nord University (Bodo, Norway), was engaged to the first discussion via Skype. She told about the approaches of Nord University to the teaching of accountants and auditors, the curriculum structure for the first (bachelor) and second (master) cycles, features of students’ placement, performing diploma works. The issues of the procedure for defending a doctoral dissertation excited a great interest of Ukrainian colleagues. The discussion took place in a lively atmosphere and aroused the interest of both parties.

Academics of the Department of Economic Expertise and Business Auditing, TNEU and the Department of Accounting and Economic Information at the State University of Moldova (Chisinau, Moldova) discussed the current challenges facing the auditors of both countries. During the online connection, the Head of the guest Department Cristina Dolgy (Doctor, professor, certified auditor) notes that auditors of both countries today face the challenges of implementing European legislation, the institutional reorganization of audit regulators and improving requirement to the accountant profession. The academics of both departments discussed the problems of attestation of auditors, their training by educational institutions, improving the quality of audit services, an adaptation of curricula to the requirements of ACCA and CIMA qualification programs.

Markiyan Shchyrba, Ph.D., associate professor, certified auditor, director of the audit firm “Galychyna-Auditservice” presented current practical issues of International Standards on Auditing implementation in Ukraine.

Meeting of certified auditors of Ternopil region on the base of Department of Economic Expertise and Business Auditing TNEU

On 17 April 2019, a meeting of certified auditors of Ternopil region was held on the base of Department of Economic Expertise and Business Auditing at Ternopil National Economic University. The session was organized by Oksana Adamyk (Acting Head of the Department of Economic Expertise and Business Audit, PhD, Associate Professor) and Makriyan Shyrba (Ph.D., associate professor, certified auditor, director of the audit firm “Galychyna-Auditservice”).

Auditors and academics discussed recently reformed audit legislation in Ukraine and proposals for bills to be considered on the upcoming Congress of Auditors of Ukraine on the 18th of May 2019.

Mykola Romanyuk (PhD, Associate Professor, a member of the Board of the Audit Chamber of Ukraine) moderated the meeting. He presented the prepared materials to discuss proposed changes in audit legislation and answered numerous questions from the auditors.

Carrer lesson from KPMG

On December 12, 2018, a representative of the international network KPMG International #KPM Lab, Bodnar Iryna (senior recruitment specialist, Talent Acquisition) delivered the open lecture “Career on target”. The lecture was held at the Faculty of Accounting and Auditing (TNEU) at the invitation of Oksana Adamyk (Ph.D., Acting Head of the Department of Economic Expertise and Business Auditing).

Students of different years received answers to the following questions:

– What skills do you need to build a successful career in an international company?

– Where to start?

– What do recruiters pay attention to?

– Employment and paid internships, career on the example of KPMG;

– Free educational opportunities for students (workshops, competitions, business simulations, online training, etc.) with KPMG.

At the end of the lecture, students passed a trial (logic) test with the prospect of further internships and employment.

Intellectual battle of lyceum students at the Faculty of Accounting and Auditing

Graduates of technical and legal lyceums took place in the intellectual battle at the Faculty of Accounting and Auditing on November 21, 2018. The event occurred with the support of the Valentina Panasyuk (Dean of the Faculty of Accounting and Auditing), Oksana Adamyk (Acting Head of the Department of Economic Expertise and Business Auditing) and Yulia Hnatyuk (Deputy Director of the Ternopil Municipal Methodological Center for Scientific and Educational Innovations and Monitoring).

Educational institutions presented 10 lyceum students who solved problems of varying complexity. Some of them were figured out by the team captain, but most – by the team. The game involved providing the correct answer in a limited time and the fastest achievement of the tasks.
Students of the Faculty of Accounting and Auditing acted as mentors and encouraged students to brainstorm. The game took place in an active form and excited participants. Some of the questions were asked in the form of a video, which added interest to the game.

Business game “Life Capital”

On November 6, 2018, students of the Faculty of Accounting and Auditing learned how to earn their “first millions” playing the business game “Life Capital”. The game was organized for them by experienced coaches of the Business Club “Partner” as part of the Ukrainian Finance Week activities on the support of the Valentina Panasyuk (Dean of the Faculty of Accounting and Auditing), Oksana Adamyk (Acting Head of the Department of Economic Expertise and Business Auditing).
All participants of the game received a lot of vivid impressions, positive emotions and new knowledge about effective management of their assets, creating a system of saving, accumulating and using resources to increase profits.
Students and teachers received congratulations and an exclusive gift from the Rector of the University and were awarded Certificates of the Ukrainian Finance Week and Acknowledgments from the Department of Education and Science of Ternopil City Council.

International educational course “Internal Control and the COSO framework: Application to the university sector”

From 5 to 12 of August 2018, Oksana Adamyk (PhD, Associate Professor, Acting Head of the Department of Audit, Control and Analysis in TNEU) and Bohdan Adamyk (Ph.D., Associate Professor, Dean of the Faculty of Banking in TNEU) took part in a cross-institutional educational project held at Nord University (Norway, Bodo). The project involved designing the syllabus of the course, recording video-lectures on internal control and the COSO framework (in English), designing the practical cases and assignment tasks for monitoring students’ knowledge. The project carries out in collaboration with representatives from Nord, University Business School, Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv and Yuriy Fedkovych Chernivtsi National University. Participation in this project allowed to gain interesting experience, deepen international cooperation, exchange experiences in the field of teaching methods.

The conference of the Audit Chamber of Ukraine and the Union of Auditors of Ukraine “25th Anniversary of Auditing in Ukraine: Results and Prospects for Development”

On the occasion of the 25th anniversary of auditing in Ukraine, a conference of the Audit Chamber of Ukraine and the Union of Auditors of Ukraine “25th Anniversary of Auditing in Ukraine: Results and Prospects for Development” occurred on April 21, 2018. The event were also attended by Adamyk Oksana (PhD, Associate Professor Acting Head of the Department of Audit, Control and Analysis) and Markiyan Shchyrba (PhD, Associate Professor of the same Department).
The aim of the conference was to provide participants with reliable information about the current state of auditing in Ukraine, the results obtained for 25 years of work of the industry and the progress of legislative reforms in the field of auditing. The establishment of auditing is associated with the passing the Law of Ukraine “On Auditing” on April 22, 1993. The celebration of the 25th anniversary coincided with the entry into force of the new Law of Ukraine “On Audit of Financial Statements and Auditing”, which was developed to aline national legislation in the field of the audit to EU standards. This sets new challenges for professionals in terms of reforming audit regulators, conducting statutory audits, and improving the quality of audit services.

Online discussion with World Bank consultant Aneta Wilk-Lis

On December 20, 2017, the seminar on the topic “Audit software-based methodologies – how is technology transforming the audit” took place at Ternopil National Economic University. The event occurred online in the collaboration with the World Bank consultant Aneta Wilk-Lys (Republic of Poland) and by the invitation of Valentina Panasyuk (Dean of the Faculty of Accounting and Auditing) and Oksana Adamyk (acting Head of the Department of Audit, Control and Analysis). The online guest was previously involved in a series of seminars organized by the Audit Chamber of Ukraine under the STAREP project with the support of the World Bank and the European Union.

The teaching staff of the Department of Audit, Auditing and Analysis and senior students took an active part in the discussion. Issues of audit reform in Ukraine as part of the implementation of European legislation and computerization were discussed during the discussion. There were drawn on parallels on the audit issues in Poland and Ukraine.

Acreditation of master program “Economic Expertise and and Business Auditing”

From December 5 to 7, 2017, there was conducted the initial accreditation examination of the educational-professional program “Economic Expertise and Business Auditing” in the speciality 071 “Accounting and Taxation” for the second (master’s) level of higher education.
The accreditation examination was carried out by a commission that included the head of the commission – Konstantin Redchenko (Doctor of Economics, Professor, Head of the Department of Audit, Analysis and Taxation in Lviv University of Trade and Economics) and the expert – Taras Savchenko (Doctor of Economics, Professor, Head of the Department of Accounting and Taxation in Sumy State University).

Based on the results of the work, the expert commission prepared a conclusion on the recommendation of the educational-professional program “Economic Expertise and Business Audit” for accreditation by the Ministry of Science and Education of Ukraine. It is published on the official website of Ternopil National Economic University.
