“We’re expecting to hold events around Earth Day, with some drop-off options earlier in the Spring,” says McKnight, communications coordinator for 406 Recycling. “Our primary business focus is data-secure electronics recycling for businesses and institutions.” Companies with electronics to recycle or needing data destruction can schedule a pickup or dropoff at 406Recycling.com or by calling or texting 406.449.6008.
Local drop-off opportunities for individuals and households will be posted at 406Recycling.com, through the company’s email list, and their Facebook page. “The best way to keep up is through our newsletter,” McKnight noted. You can join their newsletter through the link on their website. This email list is private and is not shared with third parties.
Good flat screen televisions (no older than 3 years old and in working condition) and clean microwaves are accepted for donation at Good Samaritan on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. Many items are past their useful life due to technology changes and have costs to responsibly recycle. Please consider donating working electronics in good condition to Good Samaritan. Many small electronic items, including household batteries and printer cartridges, can be responsibly recycled at Staples.

We’ve had a great Summer events season, most recently at the Red Ants Pants Festival in White Sulphur Springs. We had about 20 volunteers and staff in our Green Ants crew, diverting hundreds of pounds of recycling and compost from the waste stream. Many vendors utilized compostable to-go containers and utensils, signalling a promising change in consumer attitudes toward sustainable single-use products and a good outlook for an all-compostables mandate next year. Students from Carroll, members of the Boy Scouts, and the Helena Young Professionals helped us clean up Symphony Under the Stars in record time this year! Improved signage, strategic recycling locations, volunteer partnerships, and education efforts really made the difference this year in keeping the grounds clean. We continue our partnership with Outlaw Partners this year in Big Sky. This weekend we’ll see thousands flood the Big Sky Events Arena for artists like Maren Morris, Lukas Nelson, and more at Wildlands Festival. Our zero-waste crew is prepared! With help from local residents and YES Compost, as well as an all-compostable mandate for all food vendors, cleanup at the Arena has gotten better and better.

Our community electronics recycling event at Good Samaritan will be moving toward a semi-annual schedule. Limited drop-off options will be available, but only by appointment and with a $50 minimum. The next community event is scheduled for America Recycles Day, November 15th, from 10 am to 6 pm. Other drop-off opportunities will be posted at 406Recycling.com, through our email list, and our social media. Part of this decision is a labor shortage, but we’re happy that so many participants have been able to get rid of their stockpile of outdated and unwanted electronics at our monthly events. We’re hoping to formalize pricing and create convenient drop off options with a minimal charge sometime in the near future. Companies with electronics to recycle or needing data destruction can schedule a pickup or dropoff at 406Recycling.com or by texting 406.449.6008 with a picture of the electronics to be recycled. |
