Comment on Element IV Firmware v2.1.0 – L/R DSP, Native Volume and Zero-Crossing by John Seaber https://blog.jdslabs.com/2026/04/element-iv-firmware-v2-1-0-l-r-dsp-native-volume-and-zero-crossing/#comment-88603 Fri, 16 Oct 2026 18:25:59 +0000 https://blog.jdslabs.com/?p=4410#comment-88603 In reply to Josh.

@Josh You may try LED Mode “With Screen”, so that the LED is completely off most of the time. We’ve intentionally avoided dimmable LED settings because such a feature is implemented via PWM (pulse width modulation, or rapidly switching the light off and on for varying duration), and PWM negatively impacts the noise floor.

It would be great if there was more exposed control features for the volume / control knob 1) in general like a brightness setting 2) more exposed settings via the GUI.

Just a little light sensitive here and these would be awesome adds for me.

Many thanks!

Comment on Introducing Atom Amp 2 and Atom DAC 2! More Power. A full sized Alps RK27 would be very nice as well. I just don’t trust those tiny little pots.

@Dane – Yes, using a UAC1 Fallback cable anywhere in the chain will force UAC1 mode.

Is it possible to use this device as a pseudo UAC1 to a UAC2 converter? If u use your UAC1 fallback cable from my PS5, will the USB output of the Synapse Max interface with a UAC2 DAC or will it turn the entire chain into a UAC1 signal?

Ditto on both counts:

Thanks for the continual improvements. Owning an Element IV brings the opposite of “Buyer’s remorse”.

I too like the pause as confirmation of the EQ change. The pause is now so brief as to be non-intrusive. Please do not eliminate the pause entirely.

Comment on How to Connect a DAC to Powered Speakers, Xbox One, or PS4 by John Simmons https://blog.jdslabs.com/2017/08/dac-connectivity-powered-speakers-xbox-one-and-ps4/#comment-79030 Tue, 21 Apr 2026 07:48:03 +0000 http://blog.jdslabs.com/?p=1509#comment-79030 I have Dynaudio XEO 2 speakers, is there any benefit outputting from the dac to the rca input of the speakers as the speakers inbuilt dac will surely ‘take over’ the signal?
