Located in scenic British Columbia’s Okanagan Valley, Big White is about 56 kilometers or 35 miles outside the town of Kelowna. The ski area is situated on the side of Big White Mountain and offers terrain suited to span the spectrum of ability levels. The resort is an excellent family destination offering a wide array of family-friendly activities, including snowshoeing, tubing, skating, snowmobiling, dog sledding, horse-drawn sleigh rides and Nordic skiing. 

This is an awesome family resort with plenty of ski-in, ski-out accommodation options.

It usually opens late November to mid-April, so it’s great if you want to spend the holidays in a winter wonderland with your family. Snowfall average is around 750 cm (24.5 ft).

Located north of Vancouver in British Columbia, it is the largest ski area in North America and Canada and has become one of the most visited ski areas in the world.

A world class resort for all seasons, Whistler Blackcomb has one of the longest ski and ride seasons in North America. The mountains are accessed via four gondolas and a high-speed quad bike: Blackcomb Excalibur Gondola, Whistler Mountain Village Gondola and Fitzsimmons Express in the village, Blackcomb Gondola at Blackcomb Base / Upper Village and Whistler Creekside Gondola to the south in the area of the bank of the stream. The main terrain for skiing begins about a third of the mountains. Ski trips to the valley are generally possible during the months of December to April. The middle and upper areas are served by 10 high-speed detachable chairs and 5 fixed-grip lifts manufactured by Lift Engineering, Doppelmayr and Poma. Two T-bars serve the Horstman Glacier and the Whistler Alpine regions and take skiers to the entrance of the Blackcomb Glacier. Total lift capacity, 65,507 skiers per hour, is the highest in North America.

Mt Hutt isn’t just Canterbury’s own “big mountain” – it’s also one of New Zealand’s largest ski areas with some of the best natural snow around.

Loved by locals since opening commercially in 1947, it’s become one of the resort town’s most popular attractions for domestic and international visitors.

Just 20 minutes’ drive, on paved roads, from central Queenstown, Coronet Peak is a world-class ski area featuring state-of-the-art facilities, 280 hectares of skiable terrain and breathtaking views.

With 213 snow guns, it boasts the country’s largest fully-automated snowmaking system. This, along with Mother Nature, ensures consistently good skiing and snowboarding from early June till the end of September.

The closest ski area to Christchurch City, Porters is a family focused ski area with a complete range of ski and snowboard terrain to suit all abilities.

Spectacular panoramic mountain vistas from atop Porters feature pristine Lake Coleridge, rows of snow-capped Southern Alps and the sweeping, flat Canterbury Plains.

With 600 hectares of skiable terrain and just over 600 metres of vertical drop, there is plenty of scope for all skiers and riders – from beginners on the magic carpet to off-piste skiing and riding.

Porters is installing a new, 689m long, four-seater chairlift for the 2015 season to replace its first T-Bar.   The new lift will open up more terrain, as the slope will no longer be cut in half by a T-Bar lift track.   It will carry up to 2000 per hour up the slopes, double the current T-Bar capacity.
