My whole world my arms enclose
When the Cold Wind Blows
]]>Golden leaves soon will fade
Sunlit fields softly wave
Summer dreams in sweet repose
When the cold wind, when the cold wind blowsClouds in the sky come gather ’round
Heal my soul without a sound
Through the veil the sunlight glows
When the cold wind, when the cold wind blowsFurther and fading from my view
Higher and folding into blue
Darling, I thought that you knew
Oh my lord, I get lost in youSay there’ll be no more, no more sad goodbyes
From the firelight the ashes rise
And we will fly with the crows
When the cold wind, when the cold wind blowsFurther and fading from my view
Higher and folding into blue
Darling, I thought that you knew
Oh my lord, I get lost in youAll I want and all I need
Music & Lyrics by Brett Borovic
Running through my veins in the blood I bleed
My whole world my arms enclose
When the cold wind, when the cold wind blows
It’s all the same from sea to sea…
ALLWTF (YBOMM)
]]>The air is getting colder
The rain outside the window’s pouring down
And all the streets are empty in this townI wonder how you’re living
I hope it’s like you dreamed it in your head
But I wish that you were sleeping in my bedIt’s all the same from sea to sea
I can’t forget the way you looked at me
I travelled a long long way to find
Oh, you’ve been on my mindLately I’ve been dreaming
Of silent mountains covered under snow
You know lately I’ve been thinking I might goTime can leave you wanting
I heard you say, “that’s just the way it goes”
I think I’m alright without you
Then that lonesome whistle blowsThe train is leaving
Music & Lyrics by Brett Borovic
I had wandered, now I’m through – because I’m running to you.
Love Me Right
]]>Baby, I like the way you move me
The way that you soothe me
The way that you careDarling, say you’ll never leave me
Tell me that you need me
Answer my prayerI had wandered
Now I’m through
Cuz I’m running to you
Oh, you love me rightBaby, oh the way that you heal me
The way that you feel me
And I just can’t hideDarling, I don’t wanna lose you
I hope that you choose to
Walk by my sideI had wandered
Now I’m through
Cuz I’m running to you
I was lonely now everything is new
Cuz I’m running to youOh, you love me right

Blame the stars they were all aligned. Blame the waves crashing on my mind.
Sorry It’s True (I’m Falling For You)
This haunting, romantic ballad explores the precarious dynamics of a complicated love, teetering on the edge of a metaphorical cliff with an ocean of possibilities below. The dreamy musical arrangement, featuring echoing guitars washed in reverb and harmony-laden vocals, heightens the pensive, introspective mood.
]]>Blame the night for making my heart race.
Blame the moonlight upon your face.Honey, now you knew it. What gives you the right?
How you gonna look at me the way you did tonight?I’m sorry it’s true, I’m falling for you.
Blame the stars they were all aligned.
Blame the waves crashing on my mind.I don’t wanna push it, don’t wanna start a fight.
How you gonna look at me the way you did tonight?I’m sorry it’s true, I’m falling for you.
You’ve got your reasons, and you’ve got your rules.
You must be stronger than lovesick fools (just like me).I’m sorry it’s true, I’m falling for you.
Music & Lyrics by Brett Borovic
Oh honey, it’s true, I’ve fallen for you.
Honey, your eyes burn so warm, light my way back through the storm.
Honey So Sweet
This rootsy ballad explores our desire and search for solace through romantic love. The arrangement ebbs and flows like ocean waves, beginning with stark acoustic guitar and lone vocal, building to a lush landscape of rich vocal harmonies with echoing lap steel guitar, all anchored by a steady, pulsing percussive heartbeat.
]]>Honey your arms take me in,
And I feel my life begin.I don’t want to leave your side
You’re the moon and I’m the tide.Sing your song and slow my heart.
I was yours right from the start.
Honey, put your lips to mine,
Oh, you turn my blood to wine. All too soon the bells will chime.
There is only so much time.I am home.
Honey, your eyes burn so warm,
Light my way back through the storm.
Honey, how’d you get so sweet?
Love me ’til my heart don’t beat.I am home.

Everything’s Gonna Be Alright.
Bob Marley, No Woman No Cry
The Scene:
A low-lit bar in northern Spain, the sun has just set, leaving only subtle trails of amber clouds in a darkening indigo sky. The building has large windows to the front of the street that are swung open, letting the cool night air pass through the darkened dance floor.

Through the front door a young man, maybe 18 or 19 years old walks in and hears the start of the next song to play on the jukebox. It is Bob Marley’s “No Woman No Cry”. And that people… is a good jam. First time that I ever heard it and that moment was imprinted on my memory.
(I’m sure a better writer could do it justice, but I had to have a little fun with the set-up.)
The song is a classic, but I started playing it one night and figured I might as well try my best to pay homage to this incredible song and amazing artist.
Brett pulls back the curtain to reveal amazing secrets about the creation of his version of the Bob Marley classic song.
Do you kids still use MP3 files? If so, feel free to grab this version of “No Woman No Cry” to use on your iPod Nano or whatever y’all are into these days.
It’s you I like. The way you are right now, way down deep inside you. Not the things that hide you.
Fred Rogers
Mister Rogers is pretty much the best. And he has written some amazing songs. One of those is “It’s You I Like”, which he performed throughout the years on his show. (Even Tony Bennett showed up to do a version! Check it out here.)
It was fun creating a version of this earnest, heart-felt song along with Katie and our newest band member Henrietta Pussycat.
In the book The World According to Mister Rogers, there is a story about a hopeful Fred taking five songs to a famous composer, and then being told to come back after he’d written a barrelful of songs. Reminiscing on that story, Fred wrote, “What he knew was that if I really wanted to be a songwriter, I’d have to write songs, not just think about the five I had written. And so, after the initial disappointment, I got to work; and through the years, one by one, I have written a barrelful.
Fred Rogers Center
In fact, the barrel’s overflowing now, and I can tell you, the more I wrote, the better the songs became, and the more those songs expressed what was real within me.” That must be why “It’s You I Like” was one of Fred’s favorites. It expresses in words his philosophy on love and caring that he demonstrated on Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood.
The song “Fade Into You” from Mazzy Star is definitely a 90’s classic. The original creates such a mood there is no competing with it. With that in mind, Brett enlisted his friends Nate and Kevin to try to his own take on the song, a sort of lonesome, cowboy, Americana version.
Featuring
Nathan Tulenson on violin/vocals
and Kevin Foster on percussion.
It’s borderline unpleasant.
Conan O’Brien
Americana singer-songwriter and producer Brett Borovic joins Conan O’Brien for a special music episode of Serious Jibber-Jabber.
Brett sat down with Conan to discuss his songwriting, as well as his process and has a memorable experience with the popular late-night host.
I know, we had you at ominous clouds. Check out the video for Brett’s song “Brand New Start”.
BRAND NEW START
Another sun is setting
An orange fire consumes the blue
We never show a weakness
I never drop my guard and neither do you
And I thought that I could love you
But was scared that I’d get hurt
Blood of blood, crimson sleep
Blossoms on my shirt
Place my wounded hand onto your heart
Whisper in my ear make a brand new start
We will fade away like the setting summer light
And curse our love into the darkest night
And there is such a silence
Growing in the atmosphere
But these are fleeting moments
That seem to leave as quickly as they appear
And you thought that you could love me
But was scared that you’d get hurt
Dust from dust, crimson sleep Rains upon the dirt
Won’t you stay by my side?
Save me at last tonight
