]]>Bring a Friend week was so much fun last month. We had more friends come than ever and hosting your people! As a reminder, if your friend, or anyone you refer to Dance Concepts signs up, you’ll receive a $50 credit on your account. Friend referrals are one of the best ways we have new dancers join DC.
Our winter recital, The Polar Express, will be December 19th at Hillcrest Jr High School. Costume rental fees for the Winter Recital were posted alongside October tuition.
Our next TNT is October 10th! This one is going to be a banger! We’ll be working on acro tricks with options for aerials, headsprings, valdez and partner tricks! Dancers will get time for individual spotting on whatever skills they are working on.
This clinic can also be used for competition team dancers’ class make-ups/early birds.
Register in your Parent Portal under “Events.”
Saturday, October 10th 11-1pm. $20/per dancer
Learning to bring more intention to what we are doing feels like a little bit of magic. Making my bed feels like a chore, but making my bed with intention feels like a gift to a future version of me.
Doing a plie without a thought is just bending your knees, but with intention plie becomes an art unto itself.
I’d love to hear how you’re imbuing your day with more intetion.

Our Student of the month is… Soraya Hajarian!
Miss Julie says…
Soraya actively engages in all of her classes. She listens closely to corrections and spends time actively working on them. She is prepared and focused during class time and has been an absolute joy at dance!
Miss Blakelee says….
You are doing a great job being a returning member of the jr elite team by being a leader and showing new members how to take class and listen to teachers. I especially love that I can use you to show girls what to do in warm up because the warm up we do is brand new the most of them but you are an example of what to do next. Keep it up!
Miss Ali says….
I don’t get to teach Soraya this year, but I have loved being her teacher throughout the years. Soraya is a kind student who is always on task. She doesn’t get down on herself when she is facing a challenge and that is amazing! I am so grateful to have her at Dance Concepts with us!!
Miss Annalise says….
Every time she is in my class she always asks the best questions and is always listening to other people questions. I find her practicing the corrections I give other students and that shows me that she’s a great student and is always wanting to learn and be better.

Fundraiser order are due October 28th! Pick up is November 16th 5:00-7:00.
If you have questions, or want to participate, stop by the front desk for more info.

Dancers are welcome to wear their Halloween costumes to class from October 26th–31st! We’ll be adding some festive Halloween fun to our classes during that week.
We’ll still be dancing, so don’t forget to bring your dance shoes! If your costume is bulky, restrictive, or warm, consider wearing dancewear underneath so you can easily change if needed.

Our word of the month for September is adapt.
Adapting is an act of creativity! We’re always adapting in dance classes. When you try and hold a balance your body makes micro adaptations the whole time. When your teacher changes the choreography of a dance, you learn to adapt. As you become more advanced, you might adapt things you learn in a ballet class to serve you in hip hop and vice versa.
Our competition team meetings are right around the corner! We’ll cover everything you need to get ready for the season: competition dates, costs, fundraisers, warm-ups, and more. Mark your calendars:
Mini Team – September 15th at 5:30

Hype Squad – September 14th at 6:30
Teen Elite – September 14th at 6:30
Sr Elite – September 14th at 7:30

]]>Thank you to each and every one of you for a wonderful recital. Our dancers were a joy to be with back stage and we couldn’t ask for a better, more supportive audience.
Clint Andrews, dad to two of our dancers, filmed and edited the entire show. He is offering it to anyone who would like to have video of their dancer! He’ll be putting it all on google drive, and just needs your email if you’d like access. To download your dancer’s dances, just email him at dadcamvideo@gmail.com
Clint has done this free of charge because he’s just an amazing member of our DC community. If you’d like to support him, you can venmo him here.

The student of the month is… Evi Hyde!
This is what her teachers had to say:
Miss Blakelee said…
Evi, I love having you in class. You make me laugh and are always trying your best to be a good friend. You always take corrections and never argue with me. I’m proud of the work you’ve done this year, especially with your feet and ankles!
Miss McCall said…
For me, Evi has worked so hard in my class. She’s always been reliable, good at taking criticism, and pushing past her own limits. Hip hop was hard for her to do a new type of facial, but she pushed past it and did great! I’m proud of her
Miss Julie said…
Evi actively listens to corrections and works hard on applying them with a great attitude.
Miss Ali said….
Evi you work so hard and stay focused in class! The best part about you is your willingness to try something and laugh at yourself when it doesn’t work out perfectly. You don’t let things bother you too much and have a great attitude. I know I can always count on you to be prepared and know counts, choreography, and show up for your teammates! Thanks for a great year!!
Congrats Evi!
Are you taking a vacation this summer? Staying local and hitting up the splash pad or doing a hike? We want to see your summer fun! Take a picture in a dance pose wherever you find yourself this summer and tag us on instagram so we can highlight you! @danceconcepts

]]>Our year end recital is Saturday May 30th at Hillcrest Junior High School. Dancers need to arrive at 1:30pm. The show will start at 2:00.
Dancers should come with their hair and makeup done, already wearing their recital costume. There is a Recital Instructions sheet that was sent home with your costume that talks about how to do your hair and makeup. If you don’t have yours, we’re happy to print you a new one at the desk.
Tickets to the recital are $10. Presale tickets will be available at the front desk for $7 up until end of day on Thursday, May 28th. Children under 3 & dancers in the show do not need a ticket.
To show respect to all the dancers performing, we ask that parents stay in the audience for the entire duration of the show. The student of the month is… Faye Florez!
This is what her teachers had to say:
Miss Blakelee said…
“Faye, You have grown as a dancer so much in the last two years. You always have a great attitude and receive feedback with a smile. As a teacher I appreciate that so much. You are a leader in kindness and inclusion to all, even teammates not on your team.”
Miss Julie said…“Faye comes to class prepared to do her best. In fact, she’s usually at the studio early to start the vibes before she puts her work-hard pants on. She’s the best cheerleader- staying through all of the comps to cheer on everyone at the studio!”
Miss Marisa said…“Faye is such a bright spot for the entire studio. She always is on-time, focused and encouraging to everyone around her. She takes critiques and tries her best to improve each class.”

]]>The post Auditions for 2026-27 Dance Teams appeared first on Dance Concepts.
]]>We have dance teams for lots of ages and different abilities levels too! You don’t have to be an advanced dancer to join a team. Most dancers join teams at a more beginner level and then advance along with their team.
Different teams have different requirements. It’s likely you can find a team that fits your family’s needs. For Hip Hop Crews, dancers can take as little as two classes a week. Dancers competing in Jazz, Contemporary, or Ballet might take between 3 and 6 hours of class each week. (Older, more advanced teams take more. Younger, less advanced teams take less.)
On top of regular classes, dancers should plan on spending one Saturday as a dress rehearsal before competition season starts, and then three weekends in the spring performing at dance competitions. Normally speaking, team dances compete on Saturdays. Typically our competitions are close enough you don’t need a hotel room. This year our three competitions took place in Salt Lake City, Roy, and Eagle Mountain.
Team dances this year cost $310 per team dance. So to compete on a hip hop crew cost $310 for the year. To compete a jazz dance and a contemporary dance cost $620. These costs include your costume, entry to all three of the competitions, and your team t-shirt. We expect next year’s costs to be similar.
The friendship and camaraderie experienced by our team dancers is unmatched by recreational classes. Team dancers come to know each other, and even dancers on other teams within the studio. It’s not uncommon to have team parties or invite each other to birthday and other special events.
Team dancers are surrounded by others who are more committed to working hard in the classroom and practicing at home. They inspire each other to be their best. Being on a studio team is highly recommended for dancers who may someday want to audition for a high school dance or drill team.
Parents also get to know each other better. They carpool, help move props, bring snacks and cheer for each other’s kids. Our dancers are so lucky to have a whole group of awesome adults pulling for them and supporting them!
Ages 4-6 there is no audition needed. Just email us and let us know you want to join a team. We’ll place your dancer and then hold a parent meeting to get to know each other and go over more details.
Ages 7-10 Sign up for Hip Hop Audition A if you want to join a hip hop crew. Sign up for Technical Audition A if you want to join a jazz, contemporary and/or ballet team. Sign up for both Hip Hop A and Technical A if you want to do both. Then go to danceconceptsutah.com/auditions and learn the recorded dances for the audition(s) you’ll be attending.
Ages 11-18 Sign up for Hip Hop Audition B if you want to join a hip hop crew. Sign up for Technical Audition B if you want to join a jazz, contemporary and/or ballet team. Sign up for both Hip Hop B and Technical B if you want to do both. Then go to danceconceptsutah.com/auditions and learn the recorded dances for the audition(s) you’ll be attending.
Sign up for all audition times in your Parent Portal or at the front desk.
Ages 7-10 Sign up for Hip Hop A
Ages 11-18 Sign up for Hip Hop B
Current Prodigy members sign up for Technical A plus the Hip Hop for your age.
Current Junior Elite members sign up for both Technical A and B (you’ll need to learn both combos) plus the Hip Hop for your age.
Current Teen Elite members sign up for Technical B and C plus the Hip Hop for your age.
Current Senior Elite members sign up for Technical C plus the Hip Hop for your age.
